Gold Wing has always had one thing going for it that made it the touring bike to have. Reliability. A 30 year old GL1500 will take you across the country with one carb working and everyone knows it because it's been done. Not sure I want to be stuck in a corn field in Iowa waiting for Hong Kong Phooey to come and fix my bike. I'll wait but if it turns out to be a better bike than the Honda, that's on them.
My 30-year-old Aspi took 70-year-old me from Heidelberg, Germany to Kyiv, Ukraine last March. 2000 km, some of the worst roads you will see, many traffic control posts, soldiers, etc. Never faltered, and still drew admiring smiles.
I’m retired and enjoy restoring older Honda motorcycles from the 60’s, 70’s, and 80’s. I bought my first Honda in 1968 and have owned 35 Hondas since then. Honda is known for great design and great manufacturing that results in quality products. Although I do see more quality products coming out of China than I saw in the past, in general Chinese companies are still known for copying rather than innovating, and for very shoddy quality in manufacturing. I’m guessing 5 years from now I will still be looking for my first sighting of one of these Chinese “Goldwing” bikes on a US road.
Wow… restoring old gold wings, what an amazing hobby. I would love it if you started a TH-cam channel and just told us Goldwing stories. You would make a fortune and never have to leave your coach.
“There is hardly anything in the world that someone cannot make a little worse and sell a little cheaper, and the people who consider price alone are that person’s lawful prey. It’s unwise to pay too much, but it’s worse to pay too little. When you pay too much, you lose a little money - that is all. When you pay too little, you sometimes lose everything, because the thing you bought was incapable of doing the thing it was bought to do. The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot - it can’t be done. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.” John Ruskin

I would buy a used Goldwing over buying a Chinese knockoff. I have owned Yamaha,Honda, and Suzuki and Kawasaki motorcycles. And I loved all of them and could not say anything bad about them. Great bikes.
No, even if the bike was fantastic. The company making it has no infrastructure (dealerships, repair shops , parts ) here in the USA. Also, you don't know if it's reliable.

Same as others, reliability and service will be the big question that only time or an outstanding execution would tell. Wonder if they did when Honda designed the GL1500 subjected to extreme testing for design validation, and still many issues had to be addressed over time. China has come long way, but great companies take years to build respect, trust and reputation on consumers eyes 👍🏼
Cheap but at what costs to run it? With V.A.T. 20% + INS PREMIUM TAX AT 12% (CURRENTLY) ALL THOSE FEATURES CAN BE FOUND IN A STABLE WARM CAR THAT CAN TRAVEL (4) 450 MILE ON A TANK OF FUEL AND 50 MILES ON ELECTRIC ONLY! 🤔ECONOMICS🤔
I’ve seen some excellent Chinese bikes in recent years - high quality, high performance and really well spec’d. I wouldn’t dismiss this out of hand, as many commenters here have done, this could be a very good bike. I look forward to seeing it.
I am loyal to Honda since high school in the 1980,s. Honda cars ,motorcycles, lawn mowers. In my opinion nothing is better . My daily bike is a Gl1100 made in 1983 and it runs perfect.
Heck no! No Chicomm junk for me. I know that we import a ton of Chinese made items. Most out of our individual control. But, just like everything else engineered by others, they just copied Japanese greatness. I will continue to buy Honda quality for my riding needs and desires.
Hope you are enjoying your flying interest. I have owned my GL 1500 sine 2000. I built my velocity aircraft in 1991. Still enjoy flying this canard aircraft.
I just visited an Australian dealer to see the prices of their pickups. I am not sure what tariffs or whatnot might be included but they don't seem so cheap to me.
Here in Australia GWM has firmly established itself as a serious vehicle maker. We own a top of the line Cannon twin cab 4x4 ute (one of the most popular style of vehicle here Down Under) and to spec up any similar style vehicle from competitors like Ford, Mazda, Nissan, etc, you’ll be looking at paying twice as much. They’re not “cheap Chinese crap” either. The electronics are Bosch, the gearboxes are German ZF 8 speed autos used worldwide in many vehicles, the diffs and transfer cases are Borg Warner, the standard 4x4 tyres it comes fitted with are Coopers, and the list of internationally derived parts goes on. This bike has Brembo brakes and no doubt many other “brand name” parts in it. Remember when people laughed at Japanese bikes and cars and said they’d never amount to anything…?
The vehicle rental company i work for here in NZ, bought some GW utes last year, and they lasted 6 months, they were the epitome of “cheap Chinese crap”.
Kawasaki, Yamaha and Suzuki used to be competition to the Goldwing and they all failed to dominate. Perhaps Honda has not remained competitive without competition that isn’t V-twin powered, but I doubt it. The new wing has an alternative front end and it has lost weight. Some don’t appreciate that, but they seem to continue to sell pretty well for such an expensive bike. One wonders what the upper limit of weight is on a motorcycle when suspension and tires are considered. The 8 cylinder will add length that won’t necessarily add to rider and passenger space and will contribute to turning radius. It will be interesting to see, but even if the warranty is 10 years, what good is it if you breakdown in the middle is nowhere and parts aren’t available and there isn’t a dealer within 500 miles?
@@fredtracy3931I liked the 1200 and 1300 Ventures. It was pretty cool that the engine was similar to the engine in the Vmax. I was in high school and wasn’t really interested in them and couldn’t begin to afford one. For some reason, it always seemed like the reviews put the Goldwing on top. Perhaps it was due to the advertising in the magazine. I still don’t feel like I could afford a Goldwing even if I wanted one. They are in new car territory for me.
@@alanhassall I was 17 when Suzuki released the Cavalcade 1400 in 1985, and I remember the Kawasaki Voyager 1300 being called the Texas moped, on the cover of Cycle World. :)
Has it been approved for road use in the US? If not, they still have to go through the same testing requirements that everyone else does before they can be sold for street use here.
1:44 "built their own version of it, but they made it better" What do you mean better? Cost of ownership is half the price and it has a engine and drive train that will last 250,000 miles? An 8 cylinder 2 liter engine doesn't make it better. Did you do a long term test ride of 10,000 miles or more? Looks like they stole some styling cues from the Yamaha Venture too.
Same. The Goldwing has slowly lost its touring focus. A 30 year old GL has more luggage capacity than my 20 year old wing. The new ones have even less! And a new one has less fuel capacity than mine. Old ones also have a softer ride than mine. I feel like they peaked 30 years ago. Competition would be good.
My take away on this development that this is actually great news for the luxury touring motorcycle market that Great Wall has invested in this market segment. As Honda did in the 1970s, I figure that G.W. will use their 1st ever motorcycle to build their auto network here in the U.S.
my humble thoughts: Honda could be more than capable to make a 8 cylinder engine, if they didn't made it there are good technical reasons probably. On the other side, i love the concept of a huge 2000cc 8 cylinder, that would be my dream new Gw in place of that shrinked up 2018 model. Said that, my only concern about hyper touring bikes is reliability, if the bike will be up to my expectations i'll be happy to buy one.
Disagree on your more cylinders is better viewpoint. Case in point is Kawasaki's history with the Luxo-tourer segment whereas brand-K started out with the 6-cylinder Voyager 13. Then downsize & lighten with the 4-cylinder Voyager 12 model. And finally settling into Kawasaki's longest iteration of the Voyager with a 1700cc V-twin.
@nelsonphilip4520 . And NONE of the Kawasakis you listed were ever real competition for the Goldwing, so your point is invalid. This Chinese tourer is marketed for the "bigger is better" American buyer. Aimed right at the Goldwing at a time when it has lost its touring roots, with tiny luggage and fuel capacity compared to older Goldwings of the past.
@@nunya9555Agree! Although I feel it's better said that in spite of Kawasaki's best efforts to compete with the Honda Gold Wing, they failed first with their fuel injected 6 cylinder and then with their simpler, lighter, and more affordable 4 cylinder Voyager 12. So Kawasaki switch targets focusing in on H-D by developing a V-Twin Voyager to compete against the the Steet Glide & Road Glide where they continue to languish.
Well, I guess if it's cheap enough you could buy two so as to hopefully keep one running. Use the spare to cannibalize parts from. Or maybe put a tow bar on it and take both for a ride. Lots of choices. to me, China means cheap and low quality. You shouldn't even use Gold Wing in the same sentence with China made bike.
Goldwing owners are, at least in Europe, mostly old men, and I can understand the negative comments that are based on ignorance. I lived in China for a long time and I know what these engineers are capable of. This has led to the fact that if I want good and affordable quality, I only buy from China. The motorcycles that they are already selling in Europe today, for example, are of surprisingly good quality and Chinese engineers learn very quickly. The time for copying is long gone, or not more pronounced than it is for western companies in Europe these days. However, I have my doubts as to whether an even larger and heavier touring machine is needed. Another and probably the biggest problem is the lack of service centers. I compare the situation of Chinese manufacturers to the situation of Korean car manufacturers 50 years ago. It took decades for the service network to be established in Europe. Today, Koreans are among the highest quality manufacturers on the European market. Chinese motorcycles will have a very difficult time over the next 15 years.
"Mostly old men" or as I feel what you wrote sounds to me; old men who should have had the good sense to know when to hang it up and get out of riding! Furthermore Honda looks foolish to continue to market the Gold Wing to these has-bins!
As a Bulgarian where GreatWall made a factory to make their Isuzu copy cars (with actual Isuzu engines) They break the stigma of "Cinese made". Also currentday Volvo is owned and built in China too so why complain so much?
I would definitely try it . I would never get rid of my 2018 Goldwing tour dct but there is no reason to buy the the newer goldwing except for the bigger trunk. And the new bike has an updated dash which Honda desperately needs. And many more features I do all my work my self anyway someone has to try it and after this video and doing some research it is not a cheap nock off it is the real thing.
I'd go way past "probably" and say guaranteed to have problems. Better have some good walking shoes and roadside assistance if a person buys one of these.

I don’t think Honda has anything to worry about! The Chinese are notorious for building things using substandard materials! Their engineering falls way short of the Japanese! I wouldn’t spend money on something that doesn’t have the reliability that Japanese products do!
I don't blame you and them calling it an S2000 is even another level of dumb.
Not posting that from an iphone, I presume? There is a lot of very high quality stuff coming out of China over the last 10+ years.
But I would not knowingly support any company that steals IP so blatantly. Not for me, even if the quality is fantastic.
@@retiredandroaming It is a difference...An Iphone is a American company that ALREADY have the engineering, design, materials etc. to make the phone and China just mass reproduce it...
vs The whole Product engineering, design, concept, quality etc. from start to finish being Chinese...
It is a huge difference
China simply mass produce products from American companies they not the engineering and development team from Apple and other non-Chinese companies. The issue is with CHINESE COMPANY PRODUCTS
@@truthiscensored Actually, Apple only partially designs the iPhone. They provide their UI requirements, styling designs, key component selections, performance expectations, etc, etc to Foxconn and Foxconn does much of the detailed design and the majority of the iPhone range manufacturing in Zhengzhou, China. Foxconn is, of course, the world's biggest contract electronics manufacturer.
But my point is that China can and does build a lot of quality items, in addition to the junk they mass produce. It's no longer as easy as saying, "Well it's from China, so it must be junk!" There is context needed now....
@@retiredandroaming China builds to the level of quality specified by the purchaser. If you specify cheap, that's what you'll get. If you specify top quality that is also available.
Look at the resale values of Great Wall products. They plummet, and there is a reason for that.
Well, to be fair, the resale value of modern European cars is not exactly something to celebrate either, you lose thousands as you drive off the showroom floor.
@@Visionery1 Perhaps so, but at least they support their products. And more to the point the people buying them are not exactly worried about the cost. FYI. They buy them for the superior engineering (cough, cough, cough)
It's cute on the showroom floor, but how does it ride? How is the quality control? Operating costs? Parts availability?
Don't get too enthused until we find out if this is just more Chinese "Tofu-dregs" . . .
Very simple, no way, no how!
as a 2018 dct tour glowing owner I would NOT consider buying this bike.BUT I do think that honda should use an all digital dash and maybe add some safety features such as blind spot monitoring
@@gilsoutherland3562 If you need-blind spot monitoring you shouldn't be on a bike

it's all about Kasin Engineering..my 1976 parts list can still be ordered from Honda Japan. in the year 2102 will you be able to order parts for it? how is the build quality?
I'm sure some people would buy them, but without a good dealer network, technicians to work on them, and parts supply, it wouldn't be worth the purchase price no matter if it is less than a Goldwing.
Yea, that ride back to China for the first oil change is a doozy ;-)
Not for me. My 2008 is going on 17 years old and has signs of lasting three times that or more. Parts are everywhere, maintenance is user friendly except for the air filter, the weight is perfectly matched to my stature, rides like a dream, handles like it's on rails, slow speed stop-to-stop u-turns balance is amazing, resale value is great, I'm not switching for any amount.
I will give it a couple of years to see how it will hold up! But Honda better get its shit together with all the recalls and other little problems they have with there motorcycles. There not what they use to be!!!

A China Goldwing, oh
Hell No.
My Goldwing was made in the USA.
😉👍
What this guy is saying about the Chinese is what my Dad said about Japanese products.
If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.”

It is always good to have a little competition in the market. Brings down pricing.

@@carbonarrow7 Tell me, what is not made in China, these days? Even American flags are made there, PLEASE! LOL. You want me to change the world? I am too tiny for that.
Since Every goldwing from 2018 up is self destructing,Honda better watch it's ass from competitors
I would buy a used Goldwing over buying a Chinese knockoff. Japanese engineering is light years ahead and has 50 years of proven experience and has been building a parts support for replacement or modification to support what they make .
Good luck with the parts

Quality of all components, for wear, corrosion resistance and electronics ... + all factors such as 'lean-angles', braking, acceleration and stability etc.
bought the 1st Goldwing a blue 1975 and fell in love , have had them all owning a 14 GL1800 Valkyrie now 750 Lbs wet. I am too old to handle another 250+ Lbs and no one makes a better bike than Honda .
When are these coming? where can I get one. I'm excited to hopeful own one.
Cheap but at what costs to run it? With V.A.T. 20% + INS PREMIUM TAX AT 12% (CURRENTLY)

No one needs a motorcycle that big, a big bike like that takes away from the feel of a motorcycle.
1800 CC's is not enough? My 1500 is plenty of bike for me. And who's going to fix it if there is a problem? Are parts available in the US?
I’ve seen some excellent Chinese bikes in recent years - high quality, high performance and really well spec’d. I wouldn’t dismiss this out of hand, as many commenters here have done, this could be a very good bike. I look forward to seeing it.
Ditto
Same same
high quality, high performance .... hahaha!!
Exactly! No Chinese copied junk. Boeing airplanes are in trouble because of Chinese junk titanium.
I have ridden both. It is not better. It is not even close.
A major thing to consider is parts and service. It would be wise to wait and see how successful that this bike will be.
Hope you are enjoying your flying interest. I have owned my GL 1500 sine 2000. I built my velocity aircraft in 1991. Still enjoy flying this canard aircraft.
Love it, I was just up flying tonight, as a matter of fact!
-- Will it be available on Temu or Shein? 😂
Will free shipping also apply? :)
I'm sure shipping would be free. Just up the price by $3995.
How is it better if you have never even seen it in person or any long term track record? Who is going to warranty it in the states?
no,no,no,china built,NO. beyond that, there are bound to be issues and what about updates or recalls? dealer network? NO!
Greetings,
As always another brilliant detailed video production 🇺🇲🍾🎉🇺🇲
Glad see you back, and keep producing more videos about motorcycles
In my opinion, the six cylinder Kawasaki, and Yamaha and Suzuki V4's were better than the GL 1200.
If they focused on low end torque, why would they not stick with single overhead cam?
How can it be called a Goldwing if its not from Honda ?
Has it been approved for road use in the US? If not, they still have to go through the same testing requirements that everyone else does before they can be sold for street use here.

1:44 "built their own version of it, but they made it better" What do you mean better? Cost of ownership is half the price and it has a engine and drive train that will last 250,000 miles? An 8 cylinder 2 liter engine doesn't make it better. Did you do a long term test ride of 10,000 miles or more? Looks like they stole some styling cues from the Yamaha Venture too.
No, Scott, I will stay with the Goldwing, a well know quantity and intity!!!
Who’s going to work on it, and do repairs and maintenance? Could be an issue here in the States.
The bike looks like they fused a Honda Goldwing with a Yamaha Venture. it's nice looking but I'd never buy a bike from China.
Just as long as it will achieve 300,000 miles with standard servicing?
Long time Goldwing owner here. I’d throw a leg over it.
I would still get a left over GW late in Dec during one of their hopefully clearance sales if any
My take away on this development that this is actually great news for the luxury touring motorcycle market that Great Wall has invested in this market segment. As Honda did in the 1970s, I figure that G.W. will use their 1st ever motorcycle to build their auto network here in the U.S.
Only thing you missed was the sound of that flat 8, it could change a lot of minds 8)
my humble thoughts: Honda could be more than capable to make a 8 cylinder engine, if they didn't made it there are good technical reasons probably.
@@nunya9555 well said my friend

Where would you get it serviced?
I like my Goldwing. Satisfied. Not for me.
People have said good things about the CF Motos but i havent seen them in person yet so i doubt itll take off here in the States
And how is this better than a GW? Lol
Interesting but where do you get support when something inevitably goes wrong?
Sorry. China makes copied crap with stolen IP. There couldn't possibly be spyware or malware in the electronics right?
As a Bulgarian where GreatWall made a factory to make their Isuzu copy cars (with actual Isuzu engines) They break the stigma of "Cinese made". Also currentday Volvo is owned and built in China too so why complain so much?
It does look cool. But I don't know I'm pretty much a diehard Honda guy. You mentioned the Goldwing DCT and not sure what that means.
Unfortunately it's from Red China.
With the current tariffs on China this bike may cost well over 60.000, not to mention maintenance cost. What dealership is going to sell it?
I was asked to fix a Taiwanese Scooter.........no parts/dealers in NA.....unsupported junk.
My issue with it is where would I have it worked on? And that ain't no backyard mechanics triumph motorcycle engine either
