Hitman Blood Money was a masterpiece of sandbox/stealth action and never gets enough love on these lists. It had just enough story to keep you interested while still allowing you some free time in the levels to just absorb the story of that specific level and all of the goings on within it. Plus the newspapers at the end of each level had cool Easter eggs and articles tailored to your play style that no other game has really revisited since

The PS2 was such a legendary system. There were so many games from many different genres that were excelling, and there wasn't just one that took up all the attention. It was a time where everybody was playing different games, rather than playing the same half a dozen games that were in the spotlight that we do nowadays. It was a time where there were so many hidden and underrated gems that could easily be missed and you wouldn't know it. It was a time where licensed games were actually doing really damn good, some of which were even arguably the best of that system. It was a time where gaming was at it's most experimental and unique, and where developers and publishers took the most risks. Even if a game wasn't that great, it was likely to still have an identity and soul to it that would stick with you in some way.
It's a wonderful and nostalgic system that rightfully deserves it's legacy in gaming history.

Okami is a drop dead gorgeous masterpiece, the introduction of japanese water color art and folklore made it a breath of fresh air. It is one of my top 10 favorite PS2 games, the colors were vibrant, the music was whimsically appealing to the ears with the Japanese instruments. The core mechanic of drawing and writing to make pathways, repair objects, complete constellations, etc made Okami it's own unique game. And playing as a white wolf when you have a button to bark whenever you wanted was quite funny.

When I was a kid around 10 or 11, me and my family got a demo with Klonoa 2 on it. We loved it so much we wanted to get the full game. For some reason we could never find it in any of our game shops. So for the last 20 years every now and again I'd search for it to see if it even existed or if I had somehow imagined it. All but given up then I play this video and what's the first game on the list! Turns out I had been spelling it wrong this whole time. So yeah thank you for helping me solve this 20 year old mystery lol

Beyond: Good and Evil has been my favorite ps2 game since 10 years ago when I played it the first time! Too bad it's not on the list, but it wasn't that well known (cuz it's released together with another way more hyped up game, don't remember which one), so I kinda understand.
But for me it's got everything; a unique, compelling story, an openworld that really feels alive, fun combat (for a game at that time) and great music scores. A year ago I decided to buy a ps2 again, after I sold my old one with some other older stuff to get a ps4. I felt SO much nostalgia, I was so happy. It's the game I usually return to when I boot my ps2 up again every now and then.
    I can really recommend it!

Not a popular title compared to a lot of the others at that time but it had so much charm in its world and characters that wasn't around much then and even less so now.

There were a few games I never played on this list but got to say I agree with most it. One game I wished did better for it's time and was underrated classic was Rogue Galaxy as it was a fantastic JRPG on the PS2 and took a lot from the Dark Cloud series.

@@lucapietro3023 That is why I said it was sad it didn't do well when it launched. I caught wind of it thanks a Gamestop employee pushing the game hard on anyone buying PS2 games and I'm glad he did. Loved the demo and bought it when it came out.
I'm glad it got ported onto the network though so I could replay it and it still holds up really well.

You might also like xenosaga. It was a space epic that spanned 3 games sort of like mass effect did. By the end of it you team up with Jesus to fight some guy who wants to reset the universe so some god doesn't eat it or something insane. I loved it as a kid BUT... As an adult it's really really creepy. I've also heard this about the xenoblade games but there's no way it was as bad as xenosaga

PS2 has a great library games and they’re still today, and it’s worth replaying these games. It just shows that classic games will always be playable even to these days. Whenever we get bored amid modern games,we can always go back and re visit our childhood memories.

The Fatal Frame Trilogy! They were shared with the Xbox, yes, but they’re still some of the best horror games on the PS2! Also, how do you leave out the Yazuka games? The OG was fantastic all across the board, in addition to featuring one of the best English dubs of its time as well as being extremely ambitious and technology-pushing, and 2 was even better!
Also, DMC3 was the game that not only set the bar for difficulty-at least in NA, prior to Special Edition-but it’s the game that resurrected and rebranded the series. DMC2 almost killed it, thanks to the creative team just not understanding or respecting what gamers had loved so much about the original, and 3 delivered a shock of adrenaline that made the series punch its way out of its coffin and slash its way back to the top as the absolute best in the Stylish Action genre!

Urban Chaos: Riot Response. I remember playing Hitman: Blood Money when I was very young (maybe a little too young to be playing Hitman), and stumbling across the demo for Urban Chaos. It was my first ever encounter with a demo so I didn't really understand what that meant and I thought that it was just a weird little mini game mode in Hitman. Imagine my surprise when I stumbled across the full game at my local department store.
It had a cool gritty kind of atmosphere, some interesting and unique mechanics that I hadn't seen in a first person shooter up until that point, and a lot of the enemies in the game had this really weird almost light horror vibe in their character design.
Ultimately there were many other PS2 games that I sunk a lot more time into, but Urban Chaos was such a unique experience that it still sticks with me as a standout game from my PS2s lifespan.

If I had known as a kid that as an adult I'd have a PS2 with a 1TB HDD loaded with any game I want on it it would have blown my mind. As it is, I'm still quite enjoying it.

Great video. Twisted Metal Black wasnt only an early game but one of my favorites on the system. That and GTA 3 were a huge part of my memories of getting the console early on. The first DMC too. Loved Max Payne. So many classics on that console. God Hand I actually discovered purely by accident. I picked up a PS3 at launch and saw God Hand in the game store. There were not many PS3 launch games so I picked up a random PS2 game to play on the console for 20 bucks. I figured it would be decent since Capcom was on the box. Turned out to be one of my favorite games of all time.

Fantastic list. Glad to see some Onimusha love. YES we absolutely need a remaster collection for all the major installments (including GENMA), and Capcom needs to make a new one.

Kingdom Hearts was the reason I wanted a ps2. I was a huge Disney kid and loved the idea of exploring different Disney worlds and fighting with the main characters. I remember when kh2 came out, I got a strategy guide with it. Wish I still had it 😓
