    Been a Cat man for over 20 years, and they are the very best in my opinion. Power, dealer back up, and ability to take abuse and keep running make all the difference. Branding doesn't matter when the job needs to be done. Cat typically outperforms everybody. Price is typically higher than off brands but try to fix them when they're broken. The best value for the dollar come from a more expensive machine's performance in the long run. Parts price can be prohibitive to some contractors, but longevity in the long run can make a difference.

  • @elesjuan
    @elesjuan ปีที่แล้ว

    Not to be pedantic, but technically not a Jake brake. Jake brakes float the exhaust valves to interrupt the combustion process. This truck has an exhaust brake, which is a butterfly similar to the throttle body of a gasser behind the turbo in the done pipe, which restricts exhaust gas from exiting the engine / turbo, effectively slowing the engine down. Super cool tech regardless.
    I'm not much of a truck dude, but I've towed a few things in my life. By far the biggest and heaviest thing I ever towed was a 26 foot enclosed race trailer behind a friend's 2014 chevy 2500hd. This truck had an exhaust brake, the Allison 5 speed with transmission braking, and trailer brakes. Was exiting interstate 70 at 75mph, signaled, lifted off the throttle and by the time I was at the end of the ramp for the traffic light, the truck had stopped itself without me doing anything. Was an amazing towing experience, and no heavy duty work truck should be any different, in a perfect world.
    Congrats on the diesel, Alex. Super nice truck you got there. Thanks for sharing, Stan.

    I have a new CAT skid 239D3 machine. So far after 2 years love it and they do have that hole plugged up now with a rubber blocker plate that stops the hoses from rubbing too. I’m a CAT guy but then again my area they are the closest dealer to me out of any of the brands and that’s still a 3 hour drive for me. Any other dealer is a 4 plus hour drive so I unfortunately don’t have much choice in brands.

    The 2011 Chevy’s started having exhaust brake. Cummins pickups had exhaust brakes for awhile. I will say Alex needs to turn the exhaust brake on whenever driving the truck not just for trailering. So hey in the truck, hit the button, make it a habit! It keeps the vanes in the variable geometry turbo moving otherwise they stick and you have to replace the turbo sooner than later.

  • @nosam6002
    @nosam6002 ปีที่แล้ว

    I've run alot of different skid steers and have found they all have their problems. Track loaders are more maintenance intense than their wheeled brothers. Some guys get hung up on brand loyalty, which isn't a bad thing because they get very familiar with the equipment. Familiarity helps with maintenance and repairs. Not having to have a service truck come out because you can do your own work saves money, as long as it is done right. Personally, I run New Holland because I am very familiar with the product. Is it better than other machines? Not really. I prefer the ergonomics of the CAT and ASV. My thought is run what keeps you productive and as comfortable as possible. I still use my old LX885 on occasion because I know that thing inside and out, have replacement parts on the shelf and it has been very reliable.

    Exhaust brake is a turbo brake.
    Ram has had them for years. My 2013 has it in a 2500

    Bought the same skid steer but brand new in 2021, CAT did fix the hydraulic line glory hole issue witch is great. Zero dirt can get in there and the lines are nicely held in place. absolutely love the machine . I do find my self relying on the back up camera alot (I do commercial site work so always working in tight areas) unfortunately the back up camera only comes on 80% of the time .. and i always thought other skid steers had much better backwards visibility. othe then that absolutely love it , never ran a higher quality skid that performs on point 8hrs a day every day. Seems everything you don't like about your year cat has been improved! If you grab another skid steer go cat and get the cva service package. It'll be considered a cat certified used piece come time to trade it in . The send all the maintenance parts to your front door when the machine rolls a certain amount of hours.

      Also found the cat 259d3 is the top pick when it comes to fincese work in a skiddy. Others are great as well at moving dirt and running strong . But the cat is top dog when it comes to finceseing grades when forward grading vs just backdragging. Its bites and holds its ground and is super smooth .

      The numbers worked out great as well. Shopped out a few different brands and cat financing is amazing.

    My 2020 Silverado has the exhaust brake. I love it, especially when I'm towing my trailer.

    Just an idea on stopping mud from getting into the hose area on the cat
    Try using foam like the dirt bike racers use around suspension stuff the foam in the hole and it will be easy to remove when you need to and won’t stop hoses from moving.
