That title is rage bait for sure. If this came out 10 years ago, this would be a whole controversy. Anybody remember when Ego raptor said Link to the past was a better game.
@@JacobCruisemy comment was a joke, because about a decade ago a TH-camr named Ego raptor released an hour long video on why LttP was better than OoT, and it created a huge amount of backlash, which to your point is ridiculous because it's only a game. and you did a fair job at it but 20:20 ... where you said " you don't really see yourself replaying the game without mods" or something to that effect... this is what my point is referencing. when OOT came out... no mods for like 10 years or more. You had a couple choices... Turok, OOT, Starfox 64, mario 64 and a few others like golden eye for at max 5 years before smash bros came out. FF to today, and we have the unreal 5 engine starting to make ultra realistic games where it's legit starting to become hard to tell the difference between game and a real life photo. There wont be a kid ever that could share the kind of sentiment the OGs experienced with ONE OF THE FIRST EVER 3D open world zelda games all they can do is appreciate its history.
It's not bad, but I don't think it's the "10/10 best game ever" that a lot of people say it is. It is definitely the game that got me into gaming, it was the first game to really have a deeper lore and not just "jump on turtles" that I've played. I finally beat it for the first time like 7 years ago, after picking up the game for the first time as a kid 16 years before that. Looking at it from a more modern lens, it's just fine. It was especially good for the time but it's starting to show its age, but I definitely feel like Majora's Mask is the better of the two N64 titles. Looking forward to you playing through that one!
Majoras time cycle helps the NPCs seem like humans without needing tons of unique dialogue. Lots of npcs in oot feel very flat and boring. Oot is still a great game but is it the best Zelda game? I think too many people think that due to nostalgic readons
Ok, nobody probably cares, but... ...I really think the water Tempel is overhated. I mean I do get the problems, the finals boss is lame af, especially compared to the mini boss and the ironboot mechanic is a problem. But other than those problems, the water dungeon is amazing. It has this liminal feeling to it, not just the layout but also the design and the music. The water changing mechanic, whilst annoying at times, makes for great puzzles. Also it is easy to miss a key, making you stuck and confused, but I actually think, that is part of a good Zelda game. Also none of these keys are unfairly hidden and they can be found, if you pay attention. And I think everyone can agree, that the buildup to the mini boss was fantastic, and the room of illusion fading out, after beating this very challenging mini boss is such a good reveal. I know I just went on a long rant, to share my opinion, which most just see as wrong, but I just thought you kinda did the water Tempel unjust, so I had to be an average commenter, that is mad because "well, I disagree with you opinion☝️🤓". Idc if your opinion changes, I just want everyone to consider the pros (Also you saying the shadow Tempel is better didn't help my urge, to comment because I think it is honestly one of the dungeons, that is actually worse than the water Tempel)
@@niichan3256 I guess that’s fair actually. I didn’t really think the shadow temple was THAT good, but it had the same great atmosphere elements that I liked about the water temple but without the BS design. I think in oot 3ds it might be better ?
@@JacobCruise Ok so first of all, I like the shadow dungeon atmosphere as well, I just don't think the dungeon is that fun. And secondly, and this is coming from somebody, that hasn't played oot3d themselves so take everything I say with a pinch of salt, but, I actually think, by trying to fix the water Tempel, they made it worse. Everything in the oot3d water Tempel is super on the nose. There are bright colourful lines to the 3 water switching places, which tbh I never found hard to find after finding them once, which makes discovering them way too easy, the key locations, which you could maybe miss in the original are now super obvious. For example, there is now a cutscene to show the secret room under the block in the middle pillar-like room and the secret time block behind the master key chest is now on the ground, not hidden in it, making it unmissable, defeating the whole point of it. I would actually argue, that the puzzles are now too obvious and that the lines are not just ruining the liminal feeling of the dungeon, but that they also make finding the water switching places for the first time way too easy, ruining the fun of exploring the dungeon and finding stuff yourself... ...but also I never actually played it, sooooo... Edit: but the iron boot have obv been improved by a lot

It barely breaks mid on my personal replay list of Zelda games. Definite replays: Twilight Princess, A Link to the Past, A Link Between Worlds, Link's Awakening, Breath of the Wild Maybe but Probably replay: Wind Waker Really iffy but rarely maybe replay: Ocarina of Time, Skyward Sword Extremely unlikely to replay: Zelda 1, Adventure of Link Set it on fire: Majora's Mask, Tears of the Kingdom Anything else I either haven't played, or possibly forgot about it while making the list. And yes, Majora's Mask is down that low. I just don't like a Zelda game having a time mechanic like that. But the major offender was the time I spent trying to forge the one sword, barely in time before you miss being able to finish it, and then finding out it was subjected to the lost items when traveling back through time. I. WAS. PISSED. And then I also didn't enjoy that I'd never physically be able to 100% that game, even with a guide, as I just can't do some things like collect all the items you need the Goron rolling ability.
