What is so interesting about 2D Pokemon was the only way is UP mentality. Each generation just improved what worked and fixed what didn't. Gen 1 didn't have breeding and the friendship mechanic but Gen 2 did. Gen 2 didn't have a competitive formula or a battling system that was enjoyable but Gen 3 did. Gen 3 didn't have a solid story or interesting characters but Gen 4 did. Gen 4 didn't perfect the story and the graphics of Pokemon, but Gen 5 did. Each continued to build on top of each other until they fully perfected it.
yet there downgrades between gens as well, day/night cycles removed from 3 and after implementing moving sprites in both 2 and 3 not in 4 straight away.
Gen 3 had a solid story what are you talking about? The big difference between gen 3 and 4 was the improved competitive with the physical/special split and better move pools. And sure gen 4 story is awesome but it’s not like gen 3’s wasn’t
@@Thunder93ita Gen 3's story wasn't great. There was a story element that went absolutely nowhere in both Team Aqua and Team Magma's schemes. Overglaze because the pokemon you catch can walk around with you🤯 Overglaze because it does look aestheticaly more pleasing to look at Overglaze because nostalgia Here's reasons why your statement of #2 made me laught Reason 1- the johtomons sucks The johtomons design sucks Barely any notable pokemon except heracross No tyranitar isn't notable because you can't get em until AFTER you beat the champion

@@VinnnyG I got traded many Pokémon so I didn’t feel the effects of the poor Pokemon accessibility early in the game. And I admit a lot of it is nostalgia, I grew up on Gen 2, Pokemon Gold.
Your list is good. Here’s mine. Been playing since the Gen 1 craze. 1. BW2 2. BW 3. HGSS 4. Crystal 5. Platinum (Sinnoh is my least favorite region/Pokedex options) 6. Emerald 7. FRLG 8. RBY
9:03 HG/SS made significant improvements to the level curve though. In Kanto especially the levels of all the trainers was bumped up by around 10 on average if not a little more.
Gen 1 IS the best version because it is pick up and play. Each gen after got heavier and heavier with the walls of text. Gen 1 you can just start a new game, play through it and there are a lot of paths you can take to get through it. Later gens became much more restrictive about the order you do things and very linear, and you started needing special button combos to delete an old save file because gamefreak wanted you to just play on one save file forever. I love the feeling of starting a fresh adventure from scratch and trying a different team or different strategy to playing through. Gen 1 is a classic for a reason
I agree with most of the list, but I think my list will show where the disagreement is 😂 1) Platinum 2) B2W2 3) Soul Silver 4) BW 5) Emerald 6) FireRed 7)Crystal 8) RBY B2W2 is objectively the best but I can’t put anything but Platinum at 1. 1. Pokémon Black/White 2 2. Pokémon Platinum 3. Pokémon Emerald 4. Pokemon HG/SS 5. Pokemon Black/White 6. Pokemon FR/LG 7. Pokemon Crystal 8. Pokemon Yellow I think one point about Black and White that isn't mentioned much but is actually crazy is how late their evolutions ended up. I play my Pokémon games mostly as hardcore Nuzlockes with level caps, and except Excadrill so much of the Unova dex evolves at so high levels that you have to wait until 7th or 8th Gym to get a good member (in the most extreme cases of Volcarona and Hydreigon, you wouldn't even get them) that it definitely felt the White Nuzlock I did was so annoying compared to White 2. In that sense I think the pure Unova dex is kind of bad, while the extended dex of White 2 brings so much more variety to the table it's funnier and more pleasant to run. Also thank you sooooooo much for exposing how empty Kanto is in Gen 2 games lmao.
I beat Red in HGSS with a team in the high 50s low 60s, I used a team of Tanks, Psuedos and my starter to get it done barely. My team of Golem, Feraligatr, Tyranitar, Dragonite, Snorlax and Blissey (Health) Were able to get it done especially the Kanto Snorlax that thing was destroying Reds Team
In defense of HGSS: I think it may be the most misunderstood pokemon game. The reason why it's not as good on replay as we remember is because we tend to rush a replay and these games where specifically made to be played slowly over a long period of time like Animal Crossing for example. There is so much daily/weekly stuff to do and with all the rare candies, the pokewalker, etc. there is no big reason to grind.
HGSS and B2W2 are equally my favorite games for completely different reasons. Followed by BW and FRLG Having grown up with the series since Gen 1, I can’t help but prefer the 2D style of games.
I find myself agreeing a lot here. I personally don't dislike any 2D pokemon game, but the graphics of Gen 1 and 2 actually hurt my eyes and as such I almost never go back to playing them and the limited inventory was annoying. I would personally put HGSS a lot higher because of the adventure I felt by walking with my pokemon. The leveling probelm is something I never realised nor had a problem with. I only noticed it when fighting Red but I felt that being so cool rather then a flaw😅
Yeahhhh I was having a bit of a mental battle figuring out if I should place HGSS higher. I ended up putting it where I did because of the consistency of the higher games

I'll always love HGSS, might #2 game for me, but nostalgia plays a huge role. I like that more ppl are coming to terms with how heavily flawed johto is. The level curve is just so painful, which funily enough wasnt that bad in gen 2 due to stat exp. In terms of BW, lowkey story is a little overrated. Team plasma trying to make you think differently about the relationship with pokemon didnt make me feel like my views were challenged due to how obviously evil they look, act, and talk lmao. Like oh yeah, some medieval cult who steal and hurt pokemon are definitely a group who's ideals i should defintely consider. That being said i still love HGSS, hell im playing the japanese version of soul silver as im writing this and i still enjoy it a lot.
@@marksammie830 Which is a somewhat fair criticism since these games have some of the worst encounter rates BUT that practically does nothing when the levels of the random pokemons are way too low. For example, ive just left Goldenrod city on my playthrough, my highest level pokemon is level 23, the smallest is level 18 and most of the random encounters are like 10-12. Doing 10-15 random battles just to level up is a huge waste of time, and this gets worse and worse the higher your level is.
