- A walkthrough showing how to troubleshoot various battery issues (charging light blinking, battery not charging, charge not lasting as long as usual...) and how to replace the charging port if needed.

In the worst case scenario that your headphones are damaged beyond repair (R.I.P.) I'd highly recommend upgrading to the WH-1000XM4 model. The price different between the XM4 and XM3s is much smaller than I'd expect and usually Amazon is running some sort of fantastic deal :)

Very good video and my repair seems successful so far as a result. Thanks! My one criticism is you skipped over a couple of parts after describing them (e.g.the removal of the old charging port at 2:00, the feed through of the new cable at 3:56) which would have been helpful to actually see.
Thanks man, good stuff. I had replaced the batteries one week ago, but the phone was still dead, so I decided to replace the charging port (although red LED light was always on when charging) and now it works like a charm. Thanks for saving me some cash, great job : )

Thanks for your vid. I had an issue where touch pad was unresponsive and bluetooth would not connect. I was out in a light rain with the headphones so figured some moisture may have entered the charging port or aux input port. No signs of moisture upon opening the headphones up though. I started out be re-seating the charging port ribbon cable and that worked. We'll see for how long, but at least I know the issue is isolated to that connection.
BTW, these headphones are constructed wonderfully and even though they are not splash/waterproof, they have rubber seals and electronics are suspended from chassis. I now won't freak out so much if they get a little wet.
I damaged my ribbon connector pins in the process, Just to let everyone know its a 14pin for the charging port! Mines fixed now :) great video

I just completed this and it went fairly well. It's worth noting that on mine the ribbon cable was secured to the slot with a dollop of adhesive. I picked this out with a pair of tweezers to free the cable but some adhesive had flowed into the slot, making it nearly impossible to get the new cable through. I managed to clear out the slot with a metal pick and a spudger. If you're having trouble getting the new cable through, shine a light in the slot and make sure it's clear of adhesive.
I had the same issue with the adhesive residue in the slot when trying to reinsert the ribbon. I was able to use a fairly firm but thin card stock (index card) cut to the size of the slot to clear the residue.
Thanks man this instantly fixed my charging issue. I guess it got jostled out of place when I accidentally dropped it on a run.
Just what I needed! My headphones can't charge anymore due to water damage (a few drops of rain was trapped inside the sponge for a long time) but battery was working fine. Sony wouldn't repair it under warranty which kinda sucks since I've only had them for a year. No visible damage apart from rusted screws so will try this when parts are available.

@@jontriestofixthings3718 hi Jon, watched this video as my Sony 1000 xm3’s started to stop charging. I opened it up and removed battery cable from unit and waited for a while and reinstalled it. It’s now charging again so I’m not sure what the issue was and not totally convinced it won’t happen again. Do you have the charging port replacement in stock? I have the Sony Noise Cancelling Headphones WH CH700n that are older than the hills and just recently (about 6 months ago) my headphones have to be in a certain position before they charge. Seems to be a short somewhere. I tried a different USB cable, but the same thing happens. I'm not new to electronics, but the thought of opening them up does make me a little nervous. I love these headphones and I can't afford to replace them right now if something should go wrong. So this weekend it looks like I will see what's going on with them. Hopefully it will be an easy fix. 🤞

I have a separate issue with the 3.5mm headphone port - the surround is cracked and the port seems to be getting pushed into the cups. Any chance you have a video for that and/or the parts to replace the surround, please?

Hi, my son accidentally used the plug to charge my headset on the input, then i heard a burning smell. After that it didnt work, i tried replacing the battery, to no luck. It doesnt have warranty, what can you advise?

Hi! Great video, thanks alot. Unfortunately my main cable got a problem. I managed to open it up and i saw that one small cable is broken and i can t solder it. Is there any way to replace the main cable?
What main cable are you talking about? what does it connect to? are you talking about the cable that connects the charging port to the main board?
@@HaniJIsmail , the cable that connects the right earcup to the left one. one small wire inside that cable is broken and i can t solder it so my right earcup sound doesn t work, but all the functions and sensors and microphones work just fine

That repair is very complex and I probably will not be putting up a video for that, since the success rate is pretty low.

I found a charger port on Amazon. They’re on eBay too, if in stock. Just search for Sony wh-10000xm3 charging port replacement.
My headphones show a red light when charging but never actually charge. Should I do this or replace the battery
That means like you probably need to replace the battery. If the charging indicator light did not turn on at all, then the issue is probably with the port.
Anyone know where I can find one of those cable parts that he pulled off the charger port. Mine is fried and needs replacing.

hey there. I have had that issue once before and what fixed it for me was just disconnecting and then reconnecting the outer panel on that side. Hopefully that will fix it for you too!

Hey is there a fix for my WH1000XM3's?
Its the issue where they charge, charging light turns on and the headphones work with aux but the buttons on the left side dont work so i cant turn it on, i tried a fix where you simply open up the left side and nudge all the wires but they dont work, and the button reset, none have worked. The headphones arent fried since aux works, but they dont power on.

@@camshaft42 inside the left ear, a wire was shorting. I didn’t fix it fully. But when I opened it and move the wire it would come on but it wouldn’t work for long. The wire may need to be soldered properly.
Mine just stopped charging. No one in my city will fix it and Sony sent me to United radio. With shipping it’s close to $100 to get it fixed.

We can collectively launch a class action against Sony, so they do a recall this product. This is ridiculous that we need to pay and repair for a defect product. Never had this problem with Bose
Could u tell me exactly what flex cable I need to get for replacing it. I’ve replaced my port but it’s not work’n. Pretty sure the cable is shot. Just don’t know anything about this stuff. Looks to be 14 pin. Is that right? Any info u can give me would be great and maybe where I should get one. Thanks man.
