Given their usual attention to historical details in their videos, I’m inclined to think they leaned into the ridiculousness of it all and gave it a video game feel. Sir Adrian’s story is so wild, so unbelievable, that if they put him in a Call of Duty game, people would call bullshit. It helps that the actor playing him was Indy Neidell, their pet historian. Indy is involved in a few different projects, most notably a week by week recounting of WWII called World War Two In Real-time, and he collaborates with Sabaton on a history channel that dives into the stories behind the music as well.
Don't know if this has been mentioned before, but Sabaton has their own history channel called "Sabaton History". Each video addresses the real history behind one of their songs. The actor playing this song's title character is the historian they collaborate with.
Yeah, and I hear they're very accurate. At least a couple of reactors go ahead and include the History video with their Sabaton reactions, and I think it's a lovely idea, especially for the ones who really enjoy the topic. Obviously, they don't have a video segment for every single one (yet) but there are a ton.
Lieutenant-General Sir Adrian Paul Ghislain Carton de Wiart, VC, KBE, CB, CMG, DSO was a British Army officer born of Belgian and Irish parents. fought in 4 wars incl 2 ww. lived till he was 83 years old wounded in all his body parts lost his left eye, his arm as well shopt in th head, face and hiphe wrote after the 1st ww - frankly I enjoyed the war enjoy tyour reaction when I grew up in Sweden during the 70 we just played the same as you greetings from Sabatonland = Sweden
Live at Woodstock in Poland, 40: 1 and Uprising. Check out the two. 600K + in the audience completely sick. By the way, good reaction as always. Greetings from Sweden
I concur. 40:1 is about the Polish defending against the German Blitzkrieg attack to the country and Uprising is about the people of Warsaw fighting against the German occupation. Very emotional and the Polish crowd goes absolutely nuts :) These 2 songs would make a good double song reaction.
This is the 3rd video from the new album. The first was Christmas Truce (which you have listened to). The second one you haven't done yet ,so I'll recommend it. It's called Soldier of Heaven. About the White Friday avalanches on the Italian front in WWI.
He had a good relationship with his father and enjoyed traveling with him on business to the middle east as a boy. He just didn't want to follow in his father's footsteps to be a lawyer and was a bit of an adrenaline junkie.
@Eric Coldfire As are most of the guys I know. 😄 I come from an almost entirely military family. And am married to a veteran. So... Adrenaline is amazing. But, can lead you to taking risks others wouldn't. Look at sports people.
Your Sousa correlation observation is not something I’ve heard before, but man does that resonate. What a great insight! I recommend checking out their song Gallipoli - a poignant and emotional song that sounds just a little like Abba could have collaborated on it.
didn't like this song when I first heard it, after a couple more listens through I love it cause I cant think of any of their songs it reminds me of. also i just love the visual of the band all shooting at Indy, the historian who played Sir Carton
Go for it! every time i listen to your vids, its like back then, when we tuned in to one of US Armed Forces Radio Programs back than in the 80s and 90s in Germany!
It's funny you mention Simon Whistler. This video includes an incredibly prolific TH-cam historian. (And by prolific, I mean over a thousand videos with his presence.) The titular character is acted by Indy Neidell of The Great War, World War 2, TimeGhost, and the Sabaton History channels. If you've not seen these and you want a more complete history of those two wars, check out those channels. They did a weekly WWI show from 2014-2018 that follows the entire Great War as a news cast with some humor mixed in for levity. Right now they are doing WW2 Week-by-Week, as well as a War Against Humanity series that focuses on war crimes by all sides and the Holocaust. They also did a Pearl Harbor Minute-by-Minute, which is the beat Pearl Harbor documentary I've ever seen. This does not include periphery episodes that give information about specific events, mini-bios, War crimes, the Armenian Genocide, and the absolute waste of life and resources in both wars, all depicted as fair, unbiased, and accurate as it is possible to be. In some episodes they, especially Indy, has had to pause to explain that as hard as they try to be unbiased, there are some events that just instill a rage within one's heart, and he's brutally honest. (As a side note, if a person has a nickname that was used in real life whether they liked or even knew about the nickname, Indy loves to drop those nicknames on occasion, like a certain general from WWI and WWII who was called "Electric Whiskers" and Albert Kesselring, who was sometimes called "Smiling Albert".) On Curiosity Stream they released 16 Days in Berlin that covers the last major battle of the European Theater, with guest historians from Germany and Russia, including an episode that focuses on the treatment if women by both sides during Barbarossa and especially in Berlin, with a guest female Russian historian. It's amazingly well done, as is everything by TimeGhost. As to this video, they wanted it to be fun and sorta emulate a first person shooter, with the main character respawning. I see the nurse as a sort of guardian angel for this man, and I like your interpretation.
Btw, the Swedish way to prononunce Joakim is 'You-akim'. Anyway, excellent reaction. You are really bringing something new and captivating to the reaction scene.
I would recomend the official music video for Devil dogs It might just bee a live montage but it shows a lot about the band and their interaction with fans as well as showing the range of their fandom.
It's became on of my favourite from them after a first listen where i was not sure. The story and the video are amazing. Then, the song hit me. Love the kind of cartoon intro style and the boost at the end. TX for this one 👌
I concur on all 3 but remember one has to watch "No Bullets Fly" all the way to the end. I tear up every time I hear and watch it. I would also add Night Witches (animated video)
Those comments about Simon had me rolling in laughter 😂 he genuinely has a shit ton of channels (all of the are actually pretty interesting tbh) I'm sure he'd love praise like that 👍
Looking forward to check out this SABATON and the new NIGHTWISH-reaction. But for now, my pillow screams for attention after an all-nighter. Much Love 💙💛💙
as a sabaton fan, this one is going to take me a few listens to appreciate :-). Had the same with ghost division, and i like that one fine now. insightfull analysis again though, will definitly help with apprecating this one better. They have amazing stuff though that got me from the first time i heard it. 40-1, night witches, no bullets fly... especially with the animated versions of these last two. Thanks again, great video!
Yeah, this song is really nothing to write home about, Sabaton can do so much better. Surprising choice for a single, or even making the album. This will never make any playlists here 👎
@@corneliusantonius3108 love Nightwish (who doesn't?) and I love Sabaton, for their music not because Floor/Hannes. But this song is quite frankly awful, I've tried to hammer it home all day and had it on repeat, just doesn't work for me
@@AlvenmodFoto To me it sounds like Sabaton, but I think you want to tell me it sounds corny to you. A bit middle of the road perhaps ? It is to me in the line of Bismarck wich was difficult at first for me to apprecieate.
Sabaton-To Hell and Back official video don’t have to tell you who it’s about! Great reaction and comment as always love your content-I concur!🙏🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
I think this video feels like a Peter Sellers movie. That’s not wrong, I love Peter Sellers movies. I think they leaned into their silly side and decided to have a bit of fun and i must say it resonates with me. Thanx for the reaction
Steve Vai. You do realise he is playing on the new Star One Album? At least I hope you do if you were in contact with Arjen! Next week Friday I hope I will can play it, it should arrive then, depending on the postal service. I didn't see the videos Arjen published, I'd rather wait and remain unbiased by the video. And I fear I will play the second disk first. 😆
I Concur, nice smile friend. You should check out Simon Wishler about The Netherlands Delta Works. He is elated about this modern Seventh World Wonder as he calls it,. I concur with myself HAHA, The Boer war was the not so nice one were the British invented the concentration camps.
This is a tough nut. I'm not sure I like it at all. Thing is... that might change in the future. It has happened before. You have a great channel, by the way, Eric! So well made. I really enjoy listening to your point of view. Thank you!
I think it fits the story and song perfectly actually. To Adrian, war was fun, so Sabaton had to make a fun song for this subject. And to a fun song, you need a fun video. Then you end up like this. :)

SIMON!! I love Simon (and Sabaton, it must be said). Well said, Eric, and thank you for covering this tune.
You have to wonder what his home life was like for him to enjoy war so much. "The Attack Of The Dead Men" would be a great choice.
He had a good relationship with his father and enjoyed traveling with him on business to the middle east as a boy.
He just didn't want to follow in his father's footsteps to be a lawyer and was a bit of an adrenaline junkie.
