Sir Adrian Carton de Wiart served in 3 wars, Boer War, WW I , and WW II. Although this Sabaton album, The War To End All Wars , focuses on WW I. Yes, wounded many times. Shot in the eye, ankle, leg, hip, stomach, face, head, and ear. Survived 2 plane crashes, tunneled out of a prisoner of war camp, and tore off his own fingers when the doctors refused to amputate. All those wounds, and he survived, and lived until age 83. Sir Adrian , in this video, is played by Indy Neidell. Indy co-hosts most episodes on their history channel, with either Joakim or Par. He was shot in his face, head, stomach, ankle, leg, hip and ear, he was blinded in his left eye, survived 2 plane crashes, tunneled out of a POW camp and when a doctor refused, he amputated 2 of his own fingers to return to the front line, later the arm was amputated because the finger stumps had gotten infected. He served in both WW1 and WW2, he is the only man to ever get the highest militay award from 3 different countries. He was also knighted 4 times in the UK and knighted 1 time in Belgium

One of the stories about Adrian Carton de Wiart was after he lost his eye. Having been released from hospital in England he was told to go to a place in London to get a glass eye. He felt it was a needless bother but he went and picked out a fake eye. Then in a cab on the way to the train station to go back to the front the glass eye was bothering him so he took it out, threw it out of the cab window, stopped at a costume shop to buy an eyepatch and went straight back to France.

Frankly I am curious about her reaction to the animated story video of No Bullets Fly. That one hits hard though. It always tears me up and no, i am not ashamed to admit that.
I pray going forward she will react to the Sabaton history videos for each song she reacts to. Also she must enable subtitles on the en livstid I krig song.
Sabaton is a Swedish power metal band from Falun, which was formed in 1999. The band's songs are inspired by various historical wars. Even the band name is military inspired, as Sabaton is also the name of the part of the armor that covers the foot. Sabaton has toured with, among others, Iron Maiden, Scorpions and Hammerfall.
you should read up on this guy. What he went through in different wars and all the injuries he deserves is incredible.. his life was hilarious if you discount the pain he went through
Sabaton energy is very contagious, you just can't sit still listening to them. One of their songs, "Ghost Division", Is one of their better hype songs. Alternatively you've got sadder stuff like their live performance of "en livstid i krig", it's in swedish but well worth a watch with subtitles on. There's also the animated story videos like "No bullets fly" If you want more of a wholesome yet sad story with your music.
Look up Full Moon by Sonata Arctica. The song is masterfully written, to the point that they even use gallop picking to give a sense of a werewolf running through a field.
Im sort of tempted to throw Sabaton - Ghost Division on you, since its still Spooktober. You talked soo much about theyr energy. I dont think you have seen anything yet Especially if you go for theyr official live version
i say all the time that the term "greatest generation" should be expanded to both world wars, and not just because they were soo close together that some people (like Adrian) fought in both, but because when you look deep into both wars the sheer amount of individuals on all sides who accomplished superhuman feats just makes them look like a planet wide version of the Greek age of heroes.
good afternoon! i love these guys with their historical reference backed with their amped up intensity. kinda like having a reeeeealy cool history teacher. its nice have lyrics with some substance and a story to tell, rather than mindless dribble we hear alot of these days. have a great rest of the day miss!
The guy portraying Adrian is a historian who hosts their youtube channel Sabaton History, which goes into depth on the history backing their songs. Worth a watch.
That man is a bloody legend. He left behind his law studies to CHOOSE to go to war, thinking it was his calling in life, and was convinced destiny was real and he would only die when it was his time and not a second earlier. And seeing he regretted NOTHINg of his carreer and died of old age, he was probably right on both accounts
You really should start doing reactions to "Sabaton History Channel" think you would get a kick out of it. esp seeing Indy and the band talking about why they did the songs
Hello from Sweden 🥰 Awesome reaction as always 😀 Would be epic to see you react to Sabaton and Ghost Division the offical live video. Only Sabaton can play a show in Poland and have the crowd sing along to a song about a German Tank division. That live performance packs a punch 👌 Keep up the good work, rock on 🤘
I love the hair color you have now. Suits you well. Very pretty. Sabaton is very much alone in this genre of singing military history music scene. And those are amazing stories, and they take no sides either.
Sir Adrian Carton de Wiart VC, was wounded many times, notably, he was shot in the stomach and groin during the Boer War, he then went to Somaliland (Somali, now officially part of Somalia) and was shot twice in the face, losing his eye. Following recovery from these wounds, he demanded to be sent to the Western Front during WW1 (promising to use a glass eye, which he did not, always using an eye patch instead). He was wounded seven more times during WW1, notably, taking shell fragments to his hand in 1915 and pulling off his own fingers when Doctors initially refused to amputate (remaining in active service now with one eye and one arm), shot in the head (again) in 1916, and through the hip and then later the leg during 1917. Winning the British Empire's highest award for valour the Victoria Cross in 1916. Following the end of WW1 he was sent to Poland to be part of the Allied mission during the conflict following the Russian Revolution, he loved the country and remained there throughout the inter-war years as a sort of quasi-landed gentleman/British representative. Predictably he was in Poland when the Soviets and Germans invaded in 1939. He linked his household with the British Embassy staff and some Polish military and was part of the escape from Poland across a rapidly war-torn Europe. Upon returning to Britain he insisted he be allowed active service and was given command in the disastrous 1940 Norwegian campaign, he escaped this unwounded, arriving back in Britain on his 60th birthday. He was next supposed to be sent to Yugoslavia to support the partisan movement there but his plane was shot down and after rescuing the pilot (swimming around a mile to shore) he was captured and made a prisoner of war. As a POW he was incarcerated with other high-ranking and troublesome Allied prisoners in the Italian's highest security camp Castello di Vincigliata Campo. He and around a half-dozen others managed to escape, and what followed was an epic attempt by himself and his companions (all over the age of 50, not one able to speak passable Italian) pretending to be peasants and evading capture for around a week, but inevitably being recaptured. Eventually, as the Italian Fascist government began to collapse they sent Sir Adrian back to Britain with the promise to represent the Italian government and stay out of the War, but he did neither. He was sent to China and represented British concerns in the Sino-Japanese War, famously insulting the later Chairman Mao to his face and getting a laugh (as opposed to a bullet). Finally, feeling somewhat his age, in his mid-60's he set out to return to Britain, and on his way home seriously hurt himself falling down some stairs. Finally laid up and without an active war to fight he retired from official service, was convinced to write a rather odd, rambling, yet entertaining memoir and died peacefully in 1963 at the age of 83. He was indeed an immensely formidable character, probably borderline insane, and definitely a relic of the Victorian English Officer and Gentry mindset made manifest.
This dude was such a crazy badass… he wrote to friend: To be honest… I enjoyed the war. I don’t understand why people want peace when war is so much fun! Says everything 😂
As if he was hard to kill in combat the man survived at least 2 plane crashes. This is one of those guys where the Grim Reaper probably needed anti depressants to have to deal with his failure to kill this man.
shot through the eye and with a list of wounds as long as my leg and lived to the 80s... If i sleep with my arm in the wrong position for 1 night I can't move for a week.... Love these reactions. Please do a the animated story video of Lady in the Dark!
When the surgeon refused to remove Adrian's mangled fingers, he reached over and ripped them off himself. The man was ridiculous. An absolute unit, the ultimate soldier.
sabaton is one the biggest power metal band right now. if you want a song with some energy in, you should watch ghost division official live version. its the song they always starts there live performance's with
"The Unkillable Soldier" is an absolute Crusher. I've said in other reactor comments, I'm glad American Dougboys in WW1 didn't hv to go up against this Nut. This song is an "Ode to Crazy." But, it took "Daring-Do" from Soldiers, Sailors & Airmen of each Allied nation to win WW1 & WW2.
The narrator in Sabaton histotychannel, Indy Neidel , are the star in this video as Sir Adrian . Greetings from nwAse Sweden , great reaction btw as usual
He also got involved in world war 2! He was shot down in Italy! He was held as a prisoner of war. He escaped 3, yes THREE times. On one occasion he managed to evade capture for 8 days. A man with one eye, one arm and who couldn't speak Italian! As the song asks, was he the bravest ever or mad as a box of frogs?
To continue the Shot through the eye story. When he went before the medical board in order to go back to the front. They initially denied him permission because if he was captured or killed they did not want the Germans to think that the British were so desperate for officers that they were sending one eyed officers to the front. So he went and got a glass eye and went back to the medical board and they APPROVED him to go back to the front. When he got out side of the board building he took his glass eye out and threw it away and NEVER wore one again.
Unkillable soldier meet the white death aka the sniper with the highest killcount in history with over 900 confirmed kills and a suspected over 1000. got shot in the face, survived. and he did all of that in 6 months
Adrian Carton deWuart was a belgium war hero and the toughest guy ever lived. He didnt only survived a bullet through his eye and had his arm cutted off. He survived 3 wars, multiple bullet wounds and 2 planecrashes.
Jenna suggested to follow you on twitch, which I did, but I am sub here as well and thought of giving a shoutout to Jenna for her suggestion :) (OGComfuzio here)
I love sabaton and they have a history channel where they go in depth about the history and a little about the song creation my favourite album is carolus rex
the power is absolutely to be expected, thats the reason we call it power metal in the first place. the definition i like to apply to sabatons musik, and wich lead me to apply ot to every other genre of music is: they manage to create a percet movie of emotions, for the story they try to tell.
If any man ever has been a badass then Adrian has to be the one earning that titel thats for sure! So now I will stand up and do a salute for this superhero! Chairs for Adrian! Great reaction as always! And I love to watch you discovering the treasures of Sabaton! If I may suggest a video for you too react to it would be Sabaton, en livstid i krig, (A life time of war.) The live version from Gothenburg, Sweden. It is about the 30 year war and the swedish boys and men that made the ultimate sacrifice for their country Sweden and their king. In a war that lasted 30 years boys and men where sent to the battlefields for their whole life time if they where lucky. Most of them died on the battlefields of the 1600s europe. Remember to put the captions on, They sing in swedish and they have a audience of 14000 natives singing along in the Scandinavium arena in Göteborg (Gothenburg). This video is epic and I guarantee lots of goosebums and emotions! Love your reactions and keep doing what you are doing! Love from Sweden! 💛💙
I said it before and I will say it again: the way they portray the nurse, all I can think of is Animaniacs "HELLO NURSE!" He just wanted to go back and see her again.
One could draw a gaming paralel to this like Sabaton are smurfs Adrian is a noob that charges in leeroy jenkins style where they go "oh its this guy again" and the nurse is a respawn point npc .
Sir Adrian made fictional superheroes look like wimps. It is said the field hospital kept a change of clothes for him -8 serious wounds in just WWI. Fought in 2nd Boar War, WWI, Polish-Lithuanian War, Polish-Soviet War and WWII. Wounded repeatedly in all of them. Died in bed in 1963. I claim the Band bribed Indy with a hot nurse so they could repeatedly shoot him....
"Sir Adrian made fictional superheroes look like wimps." Nicely put - and it cracked me up. Thank you for that. The most hilarious deed (IMO) didn't make it into the song though because it happened much later: During a posting in China he took part in a formal dinner where he told Mao to his face that he despised communism... I mean, how much of a crazy badass do you have to be to get someone like Winston [insert expletive] Churchill to write the foreword to your memoires?!
Their songs are always epic. There are a couple of videos that you really need to check out. The first is Christmas Truce - best christmas song ever, second is 1916 which is a Motörhead cover and the third is No Bullets Fly - Animated story. After that there's 82:nd all the way, Devil Dogs, Defence of Moscow, En livstid i krig (Swedish version from Gothenburg concert, there are subtitles but the Swedish version is the best) and Swedish Pagans from Wacken 2019.
There is a real, and rather strange phenomenon, where men come to find they enjoy war. It definitely isnt every service member that has that happen but there have been enough that it is something that is documented. There have been a few essays and the like written about it. Rather fascinating.
I have not noticed this before. but at 1:12 there is a mural on the wall of a nurse with the frase "we take care of you". Is it the same person on the picture as taking care of him later? kind of looks like that.
Would highly recommend the Sabaton songs: No Bullets Fly (Animated Video), 1916 (Official Video) and En Livstid I Krig (Live from Gothenburg) (Just be sure to have the subtitles on for this one), all three are fantastic songs from Sabaton.
Ray, Sabaton does all historically based videos. Please do more Sabaton, specifically Lady of the Dark, Soldiers of Heaven, To Hell and Back, and 1916.
03:45 He wasn't shot through the eye, not actually. In Sudan, a shot from a Mahdist insurgent grazed his left eyeball and basically destroyed it. He later had what remained of his eyeball taken off and replaced by a glass prothesis. Which he didn't like but still got to momentarily have the doctors and his superiors leave him alone with that. Then he simply discarded it and replaced it with a most piratey-looking black eyepatch.
The types of injuries in the song is as far as i know correct, obv how he got them in the video was most likely a creative idea. I like Indy Nidell in this video and when i see this song i think of the nurse/doctor as Death that refuses to take him. A good reaction, well done.

And lastly, if you find a story interesting. Do seek our more info, they are often remarkable, amazing stories. Like Adrian, or the last stand of the Swiss guard (Last Stand, amazing song).
Frankly I am curious about her reaction to the animated story video of No Bullets Fly. That one hits hard though. It always tears me up and no, i am not ashamed to admit that.
@@ranekeisenkralle8265christmas truce is heavy too
I pray going forward she will react to the Sabaton history videos for each song she reacts to.
Also she must enable subtitles on the en livstid I krig song.
Love this band. Love their energy. As for this video... Milana (who was playing the nurse) is perfect for this role...
Thanks for reacting to one of my favorite bands and giving them the proper reactions they deserve!
Also, you have SUCH a cozy voice to listen to!
Despite all his wounds He Enjoyed the war.....absolute fucking dawg
The best thing about Sabaton songs are the history and the energy they put behind the songs. I just love them!!! Amazing reaction as always ❤
I dont think you have seen anything yet Especially if you go for theyr official live version
i say all the time that the term "greatest generation" should be expanded to both world wars, and not just because they were soo close together that some people (like Adrian) fought in both, but because when you look deep into both wars the sheer amount of individuals on all sides who accomplished superhuman feats just makes them look like a planet wide version of the Greek age of heroes.
good afternoon! i love these guys with their historical reference backed with their amped up intensity. kinda like having a reeeeealy cool history teacher. its nice have lyrics with some substance and a story to tell, rather than mindless dribble we hear alot of these days. have a great rest of the day miss!
you should go for their newest single 1916 which is also a Motörhead cover
The guy portraying Adrian is a historian who hosts their youtube channel Sabaton History, which goes into depth on the history backing their songs. Worth a watch.
Glad to see your journey continuing my metal sibling, welcome to the Sabaton Army if not said already. Laters 🤘
Bit of an emotional story, amazing singing and music! 🌹
That live performance packs a punch 👌 Keep up the good work, rock on 🤘
Hes actually a survivor of both of the world wars
He just kept coming back for more
I think he died at the age of eightyish in his home in england
This is one of those guys where the Grim Reaper probably
needed anti depressants to have to deal with his failure to kill this man.
shot through the eye and with a list of wounds as long as my leg and lived to the 80s... If i sleep with my arm in the wrong position for 1 night I can't move for a week....
Love these reactions. Please do a the animated story video of Lady in the Dark!
This is why I lov😢e Sabaton
When the surgeon refused to remove Adrian's mangled fingers, he reached over and ripped them off himself.
The man was ridiculous. An absolute unit, the ultimate soldier.
Sabaton - Soldier of Heaven. There are less video story but the song and scenery are great
sabaton is one the biggest power metal band right now. if you want a song with some energy in, you should watch ghost division official live version. its the song they always starts there live performance's with
Pär Sundström sabaton founder and member has said in interviews that Sabaton is not a power metal band.
1916 Video is a must, however take your pick they are all great.
he was shot twice in the eye. THE man
Adrian Carton deWuart was a belgium war hero and the toughest guy ever lived. He didnt only survived a bullet through his eye and had his arm cutted off. He survived 3 wars, multiple bullet wounds and 2 planecrashes.
The music video gives Monty Python vibes specifically The Holy Grail movie where the king meets the black knight
It's fun how they like using their Sabaton Historian in their videos 😂🎉
when asked if his head wound gave him any pain, he simply complained that the exit wound on the back of his head itched when he visited the barber
Jenna suggested to follow you on twitch, which I did, but I am sub here as well and thought of giving a shoutout to Jenna for her suggestion :)
(OGComfuzio here)
Jenna's great! And thank you! 🫂
@@rayactions You aren't sleeping Rachael? What time is it there now? Or is it because of the snow?
I love sabaton and they have a history channel where they go in depth about the history and a little about the song creation my favourite album is carolus rex
Soldier Of Heaven, Lady Of The Dark, No Bullets Fly
No Bullets Fly Animated Story Video specifically!
the power is absolutely to be expected, thats the reason we call it power metal in the first place. the definition i like to apply to sabatons musik, and wich lead me to apply ot to every other genre of music is: they manage to create a percet movie of emotions, for the story they try to tell.
Got to do 1916. It will leave you shook. Lady of the dark got me choked up too
This guy's career of flipping the grim reaper the bird started in 1899.
Sabaton song Lady of the Dark reminds me of the story of Deborah Sampson during the American Revolution
Every night before the Boogeyman goes to bed, he checks his closet for . . . Sir Adrian Carton de Wiart.
The insane thing is that they merely scratched the surface on what he survived. They didnt mention his 2 plane crashes for example
The nurse is like "You again?"
TECHNICALLY No Bullets Fly also kinda qualifies as a christmas song, considering when it happened....
@@ranekeisenkralle8265 True, I'll give you that. Kind of like how Die Hard is a Christmas movie ;)
@@martin6181 And? What's wrong with that? XD
@@ranekeisenkralle8265 Absolutely nothing, Die Hard IS a Christmas movie.
Sir Adrian was of Belgian and Irish heritage. The nurse could be the Morrígan, an Irish queen or Goddess of war and fate, and he's her champion.
Please do either the Christmas Truce video or the No Bullets Fly Animated video. I genuinely think you will love both of these songs.
Sir Adrian Carton de Wiart was such a badass he insulted Mao Zedong right to his face . . . and lived to tell the tale!
Learned more about wars by listening to Sabaton, then what i learned in school :P
still waiting QWERTY and Chester cover Rolling in the deep
I belive he was upset when the war ended. He truly was a war junkie
2:37 every time you do listening a SABATON song you are diving into the HISTORY
There is a real, and rather strange phenomenon, where men come to find they enjoy war. It definitely isnt every service member that has that happen but there have been enough that it is something that is documented. There have been a few essays and the like written about it. Rather fascinating.
Should try inmate 8459. It'll bring tears to your eye, especially the story behind it. Also try soldier of heaven. The vocals to that one are powerful
Night Witches and White Death!!!
A Unkillable soldier Animated movie coming soon 🫡
And Great reaction 😁
I have not noticed this before. but at 1:12 there is a mural on the wall of a nurse with the frase "we take care of you". Is it the same person on the picture as taking care of him later? kind of looks like that.
Would highly recommend the Sabaton songs: No Bullets Fly (Animated Video), 1916 (Official Video) and En Livstid I Krig (Live from Gothenburg) (Just be sure to have the subtitles on for this one), all three are fantastic songs from Sabaton.
He did not just survive through ww1, but ww2 aswell.
Ray, Sabaton does all historically based videos. Please do more Sabaton, specifically Lady of the Dark, Soldiers of Heaven, To Hell and Back, and 1916.
God cooked when he created this man’s soul
When ever they cast Indy Neidell its always gonna be an awesome music video
03:45
He wasn't shot through the eye, not actually.
More Sabaton but look to the live shows!!
he served in pationdale witch was the bloodies battle in ww1
@ ~ 2: 19...I believe the phrase you were searching for is: "Sit down. Shut up. And PAY ATTENTION!😎
All sabaton song are about history specially military history
If I had a nurse that looked like her, I'd be getting hurt too
If they ever do another Pink Panther movie, this guy should be Inspector Clouseau! 🤔
