Great reaction. By the way the soprano solo at the end during the credits is none other than the Valkyrie Goddess, Floor Jansen who is the wife of the band's drummer ( Hannes van Dahl) who is the blown up German soldier at the beginning of this mini movie. Listen to it again. :))))
Sabaton are story tellers so that history won't be forgotten. No Bullets Fly, Night Witches, To Hell and Back, Shuriyama, Prisoner 4859, The Last Battle to name a few.
Hannes (drummer) once said when Sabaton was traveling with Nightwish, he saw this woman with a whiskey in one hand and a cigar in the other hand, and knew immediately this woman he will marry. Her name is Floor Jansen and she sings the endcredit scene here. What you told at the end of the song about your time, your experience and your attitude I think is very important and it should take everyone time to listen to it. You have my respect for your view of things. Away from one-dimensional thinking, which seems to be gaining the upper hand these days, because that's the easiest and most convenient.
She was touring with her band ReVamp not Nightwish when she heard Pantera being blared. She had 2 cigars and Hannes had some scotch. and the rest is history.
"What are you people doing?" We're showing you the creme de la creme of (European) metal music on your channel. Talking about 'Brothers in Arms' (original by Dire Straits), there is an awesome rendition of that song by country-acapella group 'Home Free'. Check it out.
"Brothers in Arms" by Dire Straits is a great song and years ago it hit me as hard as this one hit you today. Far removed from anything rock or metal, but brilliantly executed. It's been played a lot in the radio back in the days and I'm sure only a fraction of the people listening understood what that song is about. May be worth a reaction video too.
Sabaton began writing this song in 2014. It took this long for them to "get it right", something they pride themselves with. They don't pick sides, they just try to tell the truth of the story. The guitar during the middle breakdown of the battle scene gives me chills. I can hear the wailing and the anguish of war. The outro, sung by Sabaton drummers' wife, Floor Jansen of Nightwish, is the soothing part of the song. It allowed me to "calm my soul". Does that make sense? I believe this is a song that we will listen to all year around. I want to be at a Sabaton concert in a sold out stadium singing with the crowd "We were all Friends!"
It does make sense. The first time I heard this song, I really needed the credits and Floor's amazing outro to gather myself and contemplate on what I had just heard and seen.
Thank you for your service, Eric. Were you in Desert Storm? That's where my late husband served on Crash Crew for the Marine Corp. I met him the *night* he got off the plane from deployment, and just never left. He passed in 2014 from complications of Gulf War Syndrome...its a real thing. I'm very NOT like other military wives...I never wanted children, I worked in the music industry, the other wives were polite but I had no sincere friends there on base. But when it came time...his *brothers* in the Corp were 100% there for me. So, now we're both crying... but together, yeah?
Sabaton always brings out the humanity in the middle of the brutality of war. It's both beautiful and heartbreaking. 💔 Great reaction. 👌🏻 Thank you for your service. The same thanks goes to your brothers in arms. Both my grandpas fought against Russia in WW2. Never heard them say a bad word about Russians. Honor and respect. 💪🏻❤
A beloved friend from "over the pond" shared with me his feeling of war..."A Soldier doesn't fight with hate in his heart for the enemy he faces, he fights for the freedom and loved ones he has waiting at home for his return." In truth, the real "enemy" are those who sent us off to fight in the first place. We personally have no quarrel with who we're fighting against.
"There's not much I can tell you about this war. It's like all wars, I guess. The undertakers are winning. And the politicians who talk about the glory of it. And the old men who talk about the need of it. And the soldiers, well, they just wanna go home." - Charlie Anderson : Shenandoah (1965)
No bullets fly is a song that hits you when you least expect it. If played on spotify with no context, it's nice but not that emotional. But man, if you watch the full animated version, the heartbreak is guaranteed.
Sabaton and Nightwish have some connections. They are the best storytellers, they don’t play music, they play feelings, they have the most amazing couple in metal and they have the most devoted fanbase. If there is a war in metal, the Nightwish Army and the Sabaton Army would be allies. If you cried with this, wait until you watch “No bullets fly” (animated video) or “En livstig i crig” live in Gothemburg (english subtitles please)
Yes! these two songs (versions) are the leaders of Sabaton songs making people soft with sorrow, pride and other feelings together! There are more of them.... 10 great albums of 22 years on stage :-) Thank you for your honest reaction! I think it's the best one I've seen on Christmas Truce! Liked, subscribed :-)
Its Tommy who plays in Majestica. He's an amazing talent.. Sabaton was lucky to get him. and the ending credits was sung by Floor.. Not sure if you caught that. But all their video's are like mini movies. Bismark comes to mind. As for my past military service I was raised the same way. I still feel weird when people find out and say thank you for your service. I don't know how to respond to that still, other than just a simple Thank you. But, times have changed I guess. I was raised by a grandpa and his brothers that had to be split up during WW2 because of the Sullivans. They were originally all on the same battleship in the Pacific. My great Uncle (from my grandma's side) was a medic in Europe in WW2. All my uncles but one served in Vietnam.. The one that didn't was much younger and served in the Persian Gulf. I too, served in the Persian Gulf.. It's just what we did, what a lot of families did, no one asked for a thank you or felt owed anything, quite the opposite actually. And I hope you check out more Sabaton. They really tell great stories of history that so many are trying to forget or don't even know about anymore.
Yeah, I corrected myself after the video. I'm getting so many names that I can't pronounce correctly thrown at me and I mess up sometimes and get them confused. But I did recognize him afterward and mentioned that I messed up. But if I don't mess up, I don't learn! Cheers from Nashville! Eric
@@TheWyldesidewithEricClark Tommy is also arranging and producing some of the fantastic music cover by Floor Jansen. He also just release his own cover/tribute to Gary Moore - Tommy is also quite a good singer!
Please don't apologise for your emotions and the personal stories you tell!! You're human and an empath and you've experienced things a lot of us never have. As you are open about your experiences people will open up to you! And you are so right...war is made for the greater good of only a few who didn't and (still) don't give a sh... about the concequences for others. I'm a bit pessimistic because I think there always will be persons like that, unfortunately. And that is the reason why I like Sabaton so much. They care a lot and put that great care in telling all the stories and give credit where it is due. Do you know that It is possible for everyone who knows a war story, be it a forgotten or not widely known battle or persons who played a (significant) role in it, to send and email about it to Sabaton? They try to make a song about it. They recieve thousands of emails each year! And you are at the beginning of discovering all those beautiful songs they made and I'm certain you will appreciate them. Thank you for your reaction! Take care and greetings! P.S.: the outro music of this video is made by Antti Martikainen, a Finnish composer and producer of epic soundtrack music. "Lord of Iron" is my favorite! Perhaps you can react to it?
Thank you so much for your words and kindness. And I now know the outro was Floor Jansen, but my brain was somewhere else at that point so it got lost in my memories of a life long ago. And I'll put that tune on my List!! Cheers from Nashville! Eric
You are not the only one having a hard time keeping it dry through this! My dad died 4 years ago, he never liked rock (Frank Sinatra and Jim Reeves was more to his liking), but I know he would've liked this...simply because of the story it tells. Every single time Sabaton tells a story about the pain, horror, glory and heroes of war, I think about how my dad would've liked to hear this story... Oh, and the sabaton, it's a protective covering of the top of the shoe/ foot, covering up to the front of the ankle.
Thank you for the comment and clarification! I knew it had something to do with armor. Sorry to hear about your father. I understand and my sympathies are with you. Cheers from Nashville! Eric
When someone tells me thank You for your service, I feel uncomfortable with that and never know how to respond to it. I usually just nod or say thank you and try to get away from them as fast as possible. I'm a Navy vet, and served in Desert Storm, but we were in the Red Sea, far away from the front lines. My ship shot some Tomahawks, and we watched the carrier launch air strikes, but I always felt I didn't really do anything. It's the ones who were injured in combat, the ones who came home in a box, and the ones that never came home at all that they should be thanking. People like my Mom's cousin 'Bud' who was killed on Iwo Jima. So I understand exactly what you were saying and I agree with you completely. This song is on their newest album (The War to End All Wars) which is due to be released in March. It is the sequel to the 2019 record (The Great War). Both albums focus on WWI. The newest music video is for the song 'Soldier of Heaven' and is about the White Friday avalanches on the Italian front in Dec 1916.
I served in OIF with the Army and you are worth the title Veteran just as every other person from your ship is. I also have a hard time with what to say when "Thank you" just doesnt fit, like you said.
Did my military service, never deployed into a warzone, hopefully never will. Im now in the Homeguard. And i have all respect for anyone who puts their life on the line for their friends and family.
These guys are taking historylessons to a new level 🤗🤗 And yes they can easy make a lump in your throat 🤗 Try out their En livstid i krig from Goetheburg! Goosebump alert 😀😀
Sabaton is symphonic, historic and power Metal. You want adrenaline, no problem; check Woodstock, Poland 2012 or Wacken 2019, or "Screaming Eagles" official video, or many, many of Sabaton songs. On the other end of their art are songs like " The final solution", "Inmate 4859" or "The price of a mile". They treat history with respect it deserves and teaching us how dangerous it is to forget. By the way, they write all lyrics and music themselves. There also is Sabaton History Channel, were all their songs are explained. Great reaction tho, and never apologise for the way you feel. With Sabaton you'll get that a lot.
Great reaction (as always) and don't worry about the tears. I think we all got them from time to time, watching Sabaton or other great bands singing about things that're close to our hearts. I think the word you were searching for during you talk about being a soldier (Thank you for that btw. It touched me almost as much as the song), is 'esprit de corps'. The feeling of brotherhood, morale and belief in your fellow soldiers.
Oh man you are going to cry so much reacting to Sabaton... almost all Sabaton songs are from the heart and makes us cry with the men involved perspective of war in that time in history. And we love Sabaton for it! And trust me you wont be the only one crying, I will as well even if I know the songs!
Great reaction, and you are correct, Sabaton has no equal/competition. They don't glorify the wars the sing about, they give you the lost history and human reaction of them instead. Being over 50+, I would have given anything to have something like this in my world history classes back in the day. SO much has been lost over time, people need to remember. Sabaton also has their own history channel, breaking down the lyrics and the meaning and thought behind the music and influences of said history and memory. Thank you for your story as well. Honestly, any Sabaton video you choose to react to, will give you chills and feelings in the gut. Enjoy them.
My first time hearing them was from some gifs with sound, aka the first memes, the song was panzerkampf ‘In to the Motherland the German Army Marched!’
I first heard Sabaton via GMVs on youtube and fell down the rabbit hole hard. Several of the videos have me in tears everytime. The videos just hit the humanity part of you regardless of the side the song is from.
Bro you're going to cry at a lot of Sabaton vids. Try the official video of their Bismark, or one of the lives from Woodstock Poland. Amazing heart-wrenching stuff.
I think the most amazing thing about this whole thing is how pitch-perfect the video is. Meaning, it's a wonderful story of humanity during wartime, but after they've exchanged gifts and played (European) football together, they go right back to shooting and they even blow up the piano sitting in No Man's Land. What could have been a straightforward, sappy parable ended up being not so neat and tidy, just like history itself. I totally agree about the Ennio Morricone bit. The ending credits look and sound like they belong at the end of a feature film. It was amazing. Thank you for the reaction. It was not only entertaining but also informative. The great thing about Sabaton is that you just can't make these stories up. (The Last Battle is a pretty crazy one. Did you know the American and German forces once teamed up to rescue prisoners in a castle from Nazi loyalists? This happened just before the end of WWII.) I think they said once that they don't like singing about fantasy themes because there's so much real material that's way more powerful. At least I think it is, because it actually happened.
No worries! All of us big men have tears in our eyes when they do this kinda production! I m a big grown swede and my great grand father was in the war and was sunked by the Germans and the ship sanked but he was able to rescue the entire crew and was honuored for that so every song and production Sabaton makes goes in my heart, brain and eyes. When i have som spare time over i look at some reaction videos on Sabaton and i think this is one of the most heartwarming one! Greetings from SWEDEN!
My great uncle John William Bowness, 16th Bn. Sherwood Foresters fell at Ypres, having been in the war since late 1914. He was 21. My Grandfather, George, was Royal Artillery took the big guns to most of the hells from late 1914 until the end of the war. He also managed to get his horse, I think she was called Bessie, home when they were shooting a lot of them as 'too expensive' to get home. He was a determined little chap (5'4" in his socks but built like like Houdini, according to my late father)
I can't tell you how much I agree with 'never disrespect a foreign soldier. Because they fight for the same cause as myself. Don't thank just me for my service.'😢 Hell, tears me up...
Eric, Thanks for your unique reaction to this song. It is such a powerful message. Welcome to the world of Sabaton. They find those moments within history which bring these kinds of emotions. So many of their songs are as powerful as this. Please view the music video of No Bullets Fly, 40 to 1 live at Woodstock Poland, and En Livstid I Krig (Live - The Great Tour - Gothenburg). They also have a separate Sabaton History Channel, in which they explore in-depth the events behind the songs. They are extremely accurate in their videos and the lyrics behind the songs. You will be amazed.
This song is going to be amazing live, I can already imagine the crowds singing along, and eventually I hope to be in one of those crowds with thousands of friends.
I think "En livstid i krig" would be a good song to look at. It talks a lot about the same subject, the brotherhood and the longing to go home. Even though it's in Swedish, it has good subtitles (the live version from Gothenburg). Also you where correct, it's Jo-a-kim with a hard k :)
Have never listened to this song with a dry eye. As soon as the piano starts, manly tears are shed. We cry together. Once again great reaction. And I love your life view as well. Incidentally - this is isn't a reaction request by the way - there's a mini-series that came out in the 1980s called ANZACS. Needless to say, it's about the ANZACS of WW1 and follows a regiment of troops from conception, through Gallipoli, through France and their eventual repatriation at the end of the war. It's available to view here on TH-cam and something tells me you'd really like it. It's basically the Australian equivalent of Band of Brothers, before Band of Brothers was even a thing.
I'll check that out! One of my favorite films is Gallipoli with Mel Gibson. Most people have never even heard of it, but it's a great story and film. Cheers from Nashville! Eric
I saw Anzacs and liked it. You can find another seven episode version in youtube and it is on my opinion even better, how ever it is Gallipoli only. Check it out and enjoy.
I might be a bit late to this reaction, and even though I'm not from America and didn't have to serve my country (The Netherlands), I still would like to thank you for your service and this reaction. Please don't feel you need to hold back on your emotions, it's what makes these reactions real/true. It's why I like to watch your reactions, there's too many reaction channels already that are faking their reactions just to get more views. Thanks again and keep doing these true to heart reactions.
The "Kaiser helmet" was discontinued in 1916, so it was still a thing in 1914. Just as the old style French uniforms with dark blue long coats and red(!!) pants. It was changed for a light blue uniform in early 1915.
I believe this European metal scene has taken to heart the lessons of Bill and Ted. "Be excellent to each other." Never ceases to amaze me how music can draw out emotions and help learn to process deep seated pain.
I also noticed you mentioned Gallipoli. Sabaton has a great song called Cliffs of Gallipoli. I looked through the comments and didn't see anyone else mention it. Look forward to seeing more reactions
I know I'm like a year late to this video but on a Christmas Truce bender at the moment looking through all the reactions and stuff so I'll comment while I'm here because I like your take. Being in the crowd in any rock/metal concert is amazing but this song specifically is one of those things where you don't really feel it like the normal "just a rock community event", it's more of a general human connection thing, y'know. I don't know how to explain it, but there is a very distinct difference and it feels absolutely unreal the sheer level of connection and compassion one can feel for humanity as a whole when everyone in your field of view is singing the words while understanding what they symbolise. The Sabaton guys are incredibly nice too, what quality stuff they make, live and otherwise. If just hearing the song is such a moving experience and especially if it has the extra bonus of a strong video production, hearing and participating in the emotion on the spot is a whole other kind of thing. This is one of those rare Christmas songs that I don't actiively hate and is part of the list of maybe four Cristmas songs total that I like (love) enough to listen to all year round. Even when things are shit, this song gives a big boost of hope that even if not for that long, things will get better sooner or later. It's good to have a way to reliably get that feeling from somewhere. I greatly appreaciate your input. I don't personally know anyone that has served (I think one of my uncles did but I've never been that close with that side of the familty so I could be remembering that wrong) but as I do enjoy reading about military history and such things in general and listen to multiple artists that talk about it (including Sabaton), I like that you talk about your experience and understanding of what that means to you. Thank you for sharing your experience.
I have great admiration for your ability to express emotions and life in a brilliant and heartfelt manner. I did an in depth study and article in a publication I edited and published regarding this event and in many ways it was the greatest revolt in the history of warfare. Those "behind the desks" were melting down and issued orders that it would never happen again without repercussions. It was the unveiling of "what if they gave a war and nobody participated?" Sabaton is likely to be taught as a college course - credits for watching and listening to their music. I have dear friends who say what you said - "I miss the brotherhood" and I completely understand what is meant, not because I served, but because I listen to them. Brilliant reaction, brilliant response and much respect, my friend.
Beyond the excellent production value of the opening battle scene it helps drive home that first "Silence." Going from gunfire, explosions, and screams of pain to that beautiful piano and the quieting of the battlefield. Sabaton is simply marvelous.
Great reaction. I think I was one of the ones recommending this so sorry if you felt this was sadistic to suggest. Sabaton is a great band and they specialize in war history, so many of there songs have an emotional streak to them. This one is a bit different since they specifically aimed to do the story justice through a Christmas song. They tend to be more of a power metal band and so you will find more of the metal elements in their songs if you keep exploring. I hope you do, despite some emotional turmoil every now and then... =)
You have a military background ,you may like this song about a soldier left behind wounded after the battle. By the German metal band Null Positiv, the song is "Wo Rauch ist,ist auch feuer" (where there's smoke, is fire), musically outstanding and singer Elli Berlin is incredible. Like this guys if you want to see Eric do this one!!
Sabaton have a history channel where they have experts come in and go into the story behind their songs. Practically all their songs about military history, and they don't pick sides.
Thank you very much for your heartfelt reaction. I also lived the fact that you took the time to let the credits rolls so that Floors aerial voice was heard. You were right about the band and it's members in the end. You have 10 years of awesome music to explore, mostly a little bit harder than this. Sabaton has done a lot of American war stories, and they really make an effort to make both lyrics and their videos as historical correct as possible. Screaming Eagles about the battle of Bastogne is one of those that I recommend (must admit I concurred on a vid mentioned in another comment to) 😆. Liked and subbed!
Don't worry this song brings me to tears too. Amazing video and Floor singing at the end credits to top it off. We lost Family in WW1 and WW2 never easy to imagine what these brave people went through but at the same time knowing why War isn't always the Answer.
Beautiful Art should cause an emotional reaction and this piece of art makes the onion ninjas come out everytime. I am a veteran like you (luckily no actual combat) and this video and song captures that sense of brotherhood you so beautifully described. Been sharing this with all my service buddies, most of whom are not metal heads, and they are all blown away by this. The cherry on top is Floor's soaring beautiful vocals in the outro that kills me everytime if I am not tearing upby then. Just epic and divine.
Powerful Song by a Great Band Sabaton , and there is no one better to end this masterpiece , than Floor Jansen !!!! Thank You for your story and emotions... NWSU 🤘😎🤘
This is such a great song and video. Sabaton does music about history about war and things that actually have happend. The other songs are more heavy metal than this song. And it is more then okay to get emotional it only makes you more human and i love it.
Blessings to you, Mr. Clark. Excellent review and thank you for sharing the selfless importance of brotherhood and humility. We all need to be reminded of this, especially this day in age.
Hi again, I don't know what to write, maybe just thank you for highlighting the Moricone mood, and that it’s time to rediscover Bob Dylan’s genius.Thank you for the human attitude you have and I can only hope that many more are waiting for us.greetings from Hungary
Absolutely beautiful reaction! Your personal words and experiences hit hard and got me emotional because what you said was very important on so many levels! Christmas Truce is perhaps my favourite music video ever made and the best Christmas song in a very, very long time! Everything about it is beautiful and so utterly relevant even today. It was released at the perfect time and Sabaton spared nothing to get the message through! Even though I'm a swede I had not recognized Sabaton more than knowing they existed and that they are Swedens most successful metal band. But now I'm hooked and so grateful for what they do! They deserve every bit of success they've got and so much more!
Another amazing video Eric! So much of what you said hits home to me. My husband, Brian, feels exactly like you do. He is very uncomfortable when people thank him for his service too - to the point we rarely mention it on Veteran's Day. I just give him a big hug and tell him how precious his life is is and how thankful I am that he is here with me. That serves the purpose in ways the other platitude doesn't seem to manage. He was Air Force for many years. He feels the same way, yet there is another aspect of it for him. He knows exactly what the powers that be do with war, and many of the why's. War is big business. He was Air Force, but pulled into the more covert aspects of service and what he saw/experienced in that aspect of it all......yes. It makes him extremely uncomfortable when people thank him for his service bc of that, but also as you said, his brethren aren't here with him to share in that thanks. I think that the two of you would have a LOT of amazing things to discuss - not only with music and the music business, but he and I both are (and always will be) students of history and we are big in war history, and he does work in film now. He has been involved in film for quite a long time in quiet ways. Now, he and his partners are working on some exciting stuff with the aim of making good films once again - most of what's out there is pure shit. Pardon my curtness lol! He is a gifted writer as well (black balled in the industry for the things he wrote about - to much reality/truth in his work). I'll have to share, or he can, some of that through an email or something at some point. But I think there are many things that you guys would have in conversation that would be very beneficial - on several levels. I realize you don't know me or my husband from Adam, but I just have something on my Spirit to offer the connection. You guys, I have a feeling, are kindred spirits and I think there's an awful lot yall have in common - even down to your top bands. If I may ask, where would the best place be to reach out with some stuff that wouldn't exactly be for public dissemination? Meaning just personal experience that isn't best served in a TH-cam comment, you know? I hope I'm not offending or over-stepping by asking this. When I get a feeling like that, and make the connection, good things seem to happen, so I learned a long time ago not to ignore that little voice. It never hurts to ask! And I won't be offended if you say, ehhhhh I don't think so. I really look forward to your videos - it's really nice to see someone else that experiences music and other things in the same way we do. I greatly appreciate your time, thoughts, and all you put to words about your experiences with music and beyond. It's refreshing, and something that seems to be a lost art to too many these days. My apologies if I have overstepped in asking where I could send a communication. The only dumb question is the question never asked. Hope this finds you well! Blessings to you and your boys from me and my family!
Thank you so very much, again, for your kindness and background. I see you're working on your brevity! And never feel like you can't reach out. My email is on my profile and it may be easier to reach out through a SM platform, if you have one. And if your husband ever needs voice over work, I work for credit! Just to pad my resume'. And never worry about asking me something. Like I tell my kids, I'll answer you...you may not like my answer, but I'll always try to answer as honestly as I can or my Security Clearance will allow!! Cheers from Nashville! Eric
absolutely no shame in crying when you hear a sabaton song for the first time. you could call it a test of humanity :-). They are absolutely unparalled in what they do. Joakim and Par are the hart and soul of this band. They went through a complete renewal of the line-up because the rest at the time did'nt want to go all in, they did and managed to reach a very special place in the heart of many many fans. How they approach the history of war is unique. They don't glorify war, they don't choose sides, but they highlight the humanity of soldiers, the depth of their courage and sacrifice. They make you proud of soldiers of many nations, because you are proud of their humanity. And Sabaton use their music to tell their stories, so they are never forgotten. They show a respect and an understanding that is rare. It is a deep rabbithole, but extremely rewarding, if you are open to those stories. I can recommend a number of songs, from lost batallion, to hell and back about Audie Murphy, 40-1 which made them heroes to the polish people because it is about a forgotten battle that the poles even lost, but how they lost was everything... en listvid i krig, in Swedish about the 30 year war and what a generation of war does to people, but most of all: they have two collaborations with yarnhub, bringing to life two very different stories. They are absolutely must watch videos: no bullets fly and night witches. prepare to cry. but hey: that just means you're human.
"40 to 1" and "The Night Witches" are two more songs that are amazing, especially the animated story video for "The Night Witches", they were done as dirty as The Tuskegee Airmen were in the USA.
This is an aproximation... from a swedes perspective. I hope it might help out. å: like the vovel sound in 'more'. ä: like the first vovel sound in 'mare' (female horse, not sure if there are other words spelled the same but pronounced differently, hence the clarification). ö: like the vovel sound in 'burn'. The o with a line through it is similar to ö but that's Danish and Norwegian. (And if anyone feel there are other words that make more sense to compare to please feel free to add your suggestions.)
Pozdrawiam.
On point, again, sir! Fascinating reaction. Like you mention, Sabaton are unique, both in their music and mini-films (to call them mere videos is an injustice). Steven Spielberg would be proud to put his name to something like this. On a slight aside, and it may seem trivial, but to me, one of the most impressive aspects of their production is the lighting - it really creates exactly the atmosphere they intend. The lighting on Par's face, as he gazes on the inscription on the cross, at the end, is beautiful. Like I say, it may seem trivial to some, but it impressed me mightily. And all this before we even talk about the actual musicianship. Actually, I ain't gonna talk about it, for you already said it all! 🙂 With your obvious interest in history, you are gonna love delving into Sabaton's back catalogue.
Quite powerful song from Sabaton, and quite powerful reaction from you! Music wise, this is my favorite from Sabaton. My second most favorite from them is the "Uprising" and especially the OFFICIAL LIVE. Powerful, and more rock. All Sabaton's songs and videos are moments of military history, they are military history puffs.
Common denominator of Sabaton and Nightwish is Floor Jansen, therefore I highly recommend to react to Ayreon “The day the world breaks down “ featuring 11 singers who are all the lead singers from the best metal bands that presently exist. Of course including the lead singers of Nightwish and Epica.
This song is amazing and I can't help but cry when I hear it. I love Sabaton and I learn so much from their music. Night Witches is one of my favorites. Floor Jensen is singing the end credits and she is the amazing vocalist for Nightwish, which is another amazing band!
To Sabaton: as often, you feel the right things. In the past, they are categorized as Powermetal, but those pepole who put them into this box were astonished and angry, when Sabaton did something other. (To be true, Sabaton is big and don´t care about any box they are put in) There are only two red threads in thier band life. 1. They make Songs about war and military storys. 2. And to tell those stories, they use all means and styles of the "Metal" music genre in the widest sense.
Great reaction! Some more you NEED to hear. "En livstid i krig" (live in Gothenburg, w/ subtitles is very important). No bullets fly. Bismark. I could keep going but these are great!
As always, awesome reaction 🤘🤘🤘🤘 just to let you know in 2015 Nightwish headline a US. Tour with Sabaton. First tour of Floor Jansen as a Nightwish member. The tour started in Hammerstein's Ballroom NYC. And I was there.
Really enjoyed this reaction, hoping to see you do more Sabaton. If you do decide to do more I highly recommend 'No Bullets Fly' the Yarnhub animated version. Amazing song with and incredible story.
Sabaton are probably the best tellers of the stories from the wars, if you do not shed a tear watching this you have no soul, it drives home how awful war really is. Having Floor Jansen (Married to Hannes the drummer) sing the outro was just something else, it was a pure emotion song that told its story exceptionally well
The other side of the internet cry's too my friend...great video....never thought a person had musical feelings until you listen to symphonic metal ...huh... beautiful European bands.
NW Army Bavaria here, well you had your Chance between 14:50 and 15:05, to read, that Floor did the Endtitles. I were an little bit surprised, as you explained Christmas truce before and after the Vid, but then again, i remember the American Education System i witnessed as the 1st Armored were stationed an decade into my early Teens till 90(me21) at my Hometown Border, and Gi`s and their Offspring were natural Part of our Community. Then the did fly out to Iran and never come back. We over here , especially in Germany, been defeated twice, and our Education let no one escape the History from WW I and WWII at any way, also the political Surroundings, such Events, even if not really written down, like Christmas Truce. Also your Statement about Soldiers, point Brothers in Arms along, well thanks for sharing your Mindset with us. An Saying, often bought up here, from far Left at first and really tinkered in German normal use of Speech is *Stell Dir vor, es ist Krieg, und keiner geht hin.* Imagine, its war, and nobody shows up. In The End all this BS is about Power, Money and Supremacy, but the Agitators never show up on the Front. The conditioned 15s to 30s yrs spill Blood for their Money, Fame and Power. Did my Service in and for Germany, as an old Butt i had to back in the 80s, but they wouldnt win any of their Wars with me, period. Well, Nightwish, Sabaton, Rammstein, Epica, Majestica, with many other to come, welcome to the Punch of European not Mainstream Metal, not Airplayed in USA ;) there are also lighthearted Songs, just gotta dig some deeper:D Stay Healthy.
Thank you for the time and attention, I appreciate that. While most deride our public school system, we are taught these things, but the student body has, over the past 30 to 40 years, lowered their own priorities of education or continuing education. Also, I don't think the US was involved at this point, so of course, our National PR Machine of patriotism don't grab ahold of the event. I grew up watching World at War and other shows along with learning from first hand accounts of relatives and family friends. The issue with our Learning here, is while we're Free, we're Free to be Uneducated. People take books for granted. Honestly, I am finding many of the current generation prioritizing their kid's education. I put mine in private school to keep them from a certain culture that prevails here. But I think the pendulum is swinging back. Thank you again for the comment and words! Eric
@@TheWyldesidewithEricClark Thx for your Answer! I wish(unreal, i know) for all Kids in the so called first States to get an solid ground Education . Mine also did visit some Kind of Private School, and i am proud, sometimes their Mindset is much less Biased as mine, left alone at that Age as Twen. Education, unbiased, would be the ultimate Form of creating the Base for an Brotherhood of Men, if possible. If i got you right,. the Pendulum swings in the good Direction. Awesome. But that dont prevail you from doing more of our Metal Recaps from the hard to chunk Euro Metalheads:D
Thanks for a very empathetic reaction❣ Happy you found Sabaton, its a rabbit hole :). Emotions are emotions when they are real, love it! Doing a great job by the way and i am subscribing now. Cheers from a summery Stockholm❤
I love Sabaton's integration of metal/rock with history. I especially love their collaborations with Yarnhub animation. I highly recommend Sabaton's and Yarnhub's full animated video of "Night Witches" for a future reaction. It is the story of the little known history of Russian airwomen. Bring Kleenex.
Why reading up on things before....? That prepares you for what is coming, and we don't want that. We are a sadistic bunch of lunatics that enjoy seeing reactors cry. Raw emotions speak louder than any words. It's more genuine to the audience. And you never have to excuse yourself for showing emotions. Especially when reacting to Sabaton and Nightwish. Much Love to you 💙💛💙
It is not stated anywhere, but I hear a lot of Tommy Johansson arrangement in the background, he did some arrangements for Floor, just check out her Ave Maria or even better Adagio on her channel🤓
I never trust anyone who's never cried to a piece of music. I still do it as a 51 year old fella. Great reaction.
The beautiful voice at the credits belongs to Floor Jansen, the blonde soldier's wife.
Hannes van Dahl 🤗
Many chills with this one, especially when the piano comes in and when Floor sings the outro.
It is a masterpiece❣️
Hannes (drummer) once said when Sabaton was traveling with Nightwish, he saw this woman with a whiskey in one hand and a cigar in the other hand, and knew immediately this woman he will marry. Her name is Floor Jansen and she sings the endcredit scene here.
What you told at the end of the song about your time, your experience and your attitude I think is very important and it should take everyone time to listen to it. You have my respect for your view of things. Away from one-dimensional thinking, which seems to be gaining the upper hand these days, because that's the easiest and most convenient.
Thats super awesome story to tell its ac ool love story two people meet with same favorite band and both same personality basically.
I also recommend it. One of three A Capella groups that sound so good it's easy to forget they aren't using instruments.
Brothers in Arms with Home Free is amazing
I concur ☺️
I concur
Sabaton are amazing storytellers. Sounds like you need to see No bullets fly.
i concur
YEAHHH
No Bullets Fly is a gut punch of emotions, and it's beautiful.
No bullets fly is a song that hits you when you least expect it.
If played on spotify with no context, it's nice but not that emotional.
But man, if you watch the full animated version, the heartbreak is guaranteed.
The full animated version is a must!!!
10 great albums of 22 years on stage :-)
Thank you for your honest reaction! I think it's the best one I've seen on Christmas Truce! Liked, subscribed :-)
I conquer, uh, I mean concur.
Agreed and you need to watch all the way to the end.
Allies indeed.
Lol how many people like me both love Nightwish and Sabaton lol
Definitely "The Bismarck".
@@wannabedane4046 Yeah Tommy is a tenor. He is a fantastic singer. I went to school with him. He also competed in karaoke competitions.
"Bismarck" (official music video) next!!🤘 Production quality is insane!
Eric
@@TheWyldesidewithEricClark i tear up everytime i hear this song, so you are in good hands...... Cheers from Northern Indiana
oh, and, umm, i agree....
Wow!
The talk about his personal experince was powerful. And I agree so much.
Eric
The sabaton was only worn by mounted knights as their feet were very vulnerable.
Well.. You sir being a veteran are going to enjoy Sabaton immensely. "82nd (yes that 82nd) all the way" is next.
Anneke van Giersbergen is the reason Floor wanted to sing metal. Please watch the Gathering " Strange machines" 1996 live at Pinkpop.
Eric can't handle that. 😁 Anneke is simply too good. And we have to be careful, otherwise Eric will convert to European Metal. 🤣🤣
The Gathering was a great band
Even better, check Anneke joining stage with Amorphis.
These guys are taking historylessons to a new level 🤗🤗
And yes they can easy make a lump in your throat 🤗
Try out their En livstid i krig from Goetheburg!
Goosebump alert 😀😀
Yes I agree. One of the best videos for crowd participation ever.
I concur.
I concur!
Another great choice.
Yes, please do En Livstid I Krig (Live in Gothenburg)!
European music is its own entity man, glad you're enjoying this journey, cheers!
Enjoy them.
The first song I’ve ever heard from Sabaton…..will definitely be checking out more from them. Amazing song & video. 😊
Welcome to the sabaton army you are in for a ride.
You won't regret
Please react to The Greatest Show On Earth by Nightwish. I feel, that somehow it's fitting after this even though it is on a different subject.
I concur. 40:1 is freaking amazing!
This song is going to be amazing live, I can already imagine the crowds singing along, and eventually I hope to be in one of those crowds with thousands of friends.
It was, saw them in Atlanta, singing with the tears.
Agree, check out this song with English subs on
A great suggestion! It has to be the Swedish version. The live video is awesome.
I found these guys about 2 months back they sing a lot about military history this song made me cry 😢
You are so welcome, Eric! 🙏
Virtually every Sabaton music video is history based. Many set in WW II. One in animation form is No Bullets Fly, another moving story.
Gallipoli(2015) under the username Joseph Mondragon Solano
"Be excellent to each other."
Never ceases to amaze me how music can draw out emotions and help learn to process deep seated pain.
I also noticed you mentioned Gallipoli. Sabaton has a great song called Cliffs of Gallipoli. I looked through the comments and didn't see anyone else mention it. Look forward to seeing more reactions
If you continue to react to Sabaton, you will hear metallic tones. I promise. Great reaction as usual by the way :-
I know I'm like a year late to this video but on a Christmas Truce bender at the moment looking through all the reactions and stuff so I'll comment while I'm here because I like your take.
You need to see Bismarck too. Amazing video production, great song...
You have a military background ,you may like this song about a soldier
left behind wounded after the battle. By the German metal band Null Positiv, the song
is "Wo Rauch ist,ist auch feuer" (where there's smoke, is fire), musically
outstanding and singer Elli Berlin is incredible.
One of the best and most important Christmas songs ever written. Love your honest reactions and analysis.
Don't worry this song brings me to tears too. Amazing video and Floor singing at the end credits to top it off. We lost Family in WW1 and WW2 never easy to imagine what these brave people went through but at the same time knowing why War isn't always the Answer.
Salute and respect from an old Cold War vet. Great reaction.
Welcome to the sabaton army, enjoy the massive rabbit hole you just fell into!
Great honest reaction to this magnificent video and song. The greatest music video ever made. Thank you...... LEST WE FORGET....
Nicely done, you just earned yourself another subscriber!
Hi again, I don't know what to write, maybe just thank you for highlighting the Moricone mood, and that it’s time to rediscover Bob Dylan’s genius.Thank you for the human attitude you have and I can only hope that many more are waiting for us.greetings from Hungary
that was one heartfelt reaction, I love this song and the both hope and despair given... it's a tear jerker for sure...
A test of humanity indeed. Anyone who can sit through this masterpiece of music and storytelling unaffected has no heart and they have no soul.
Thank you for the help! I'm just trying not to disrespect anyone!
Cheers from Nashville!!
Eric
Pozdrawiam.
Great reaction. In the same line you will love their song" no bullets fly " or any other song from them. Stay safe 🤘😁🤘
With your obvious interest in history, you are gonna love delving into Sabaton's back catalogue.
As a huge Sabaton fan, you have reacted so well to amazing band who are teaching us all about history in a way we can all learn.
And then go down the rabbit hole of reacting to each singers own band! 💡
This song is amazing and I can't help but cry when I hear it. I love Sabaton and I learn so much from their music. Night Witches is one of my favorites. Floor Jensen is singing the end credits and she is the amazing vocalist for Nightwish, which is another amazing band!
Sir you are one if not the best men I’ve watched and learnt something from thank you for your wisdom
To Sabaton: as often, you feel the right things. In the past, they are categorized as Powermetal, but those pepole who put them into this box were astonished and angry, when Sabaton did something other. (To be true, Sabaton is big and don´t care about any box they are put in)
There are only two red threads in thier band life.
I love this song so much, can hear it every day, it a beautiful song explaining what soldiers did in the past together.
What we are doing to you dear host, is share music with you that touches us. And enjoy how it touches you. Be well sir!
Thank you for your service
All true , the cross is still there in the fields at Ypres in France , great video
NW Army Bavaria here,
well you had your Chance between 14:50 and 15:05, to read, that Floor did the Endtitles.
Well, Nightwish, Sabaton, Rammstein, Epica, Majestica, with many other to come, welcome to the Punch of European not Mainstream Metal, not Airplayed in USA ;) there are also lighthearted Songs, just gotta dig some deeper:D
Stay Healthy.
@@alexandersteinmetz6857 I'm gonna keep on keepin' on, as they say!
Cheers!!
Eric
Can't go wrong w Rammstein, ever!
I concur
This video is very emotional and has a story to tell. Very relevant at the moment. One of Sabaton's best videos, in my opinion. Well analysed, Eric 👍.
Tommy ReinXeed Johannsen is the quitar player from ReinXeed and Majestica. Also, his ABBA covers are amazing.
With reaction for me its simple...is there genuine emotions?i see tears .i subscribe...i loved it man.
Much Love to you 💙💛💙
I love your personal input!
love you man.thank you for your reaction .best love from sweden
Best reaction of this song so far. (and Ive seen them all). Thanks!
It is not stated anywhere, but I hear a lot of Tommy Johansson arrangement in the background, he did some arrangements for Floor, just check out her Ave Maria or even better Adagio on her channel🤓
Good review.
