    On this channel we like to do a lot of dogfighting most videos are some sort of dogfight between 2 different aircraft as we explore their different capabilities. From time to time I like to dabble in Virtual Reality, I think VR is a great new technology and I love to show that stuff off for the channel from time to time.
    If you prefer more up close and personal dogfights consider the IL-2 Sturmovik: Great Battle series and experience intense WWII aerial combat over famous battlefields such as Stalingrad, Moscow, Rhineland and Normandy. Fight in and against Russian, American, German, British warbirds such as the P-51 Mustang, P-47 Thunderbolt, Bf-109, FW-190, Spitfire, Hurricane and rugged IL-2 Sturmovik attack plane. You can also fly legendary SPADS, Fokkers and Camels in WWI dogfights over the trenches of WWI and discover your inner Red Baron! And all of this can be experienced in jaw dropping virtual reality!
    If you enjoy war thunder or Microsoft flight simulator 2020 or even dogfighting in Battlefield 2042, consider getting yourself into Digital Combat Simulator by Eagle Dynamics, the Combat side of Aviation with the BVR and Dogfights really provides a different and interesting perspective on aviation. You can fly all kinds of combat aircraft including the F-16, F-15, F-14, JF-17, Su-27, Mig-29, Mirage and the F-18 Hornet along with many other aircraft and helicopters like the Ka-50 and Mi-8.

      I think that is a game changer considering you don't have to worry about a hat that has a tracking device on it, or VR when you are totally inside the game. If you're like me and you just have a standard size 24 inch monitor that is awesome

      If the bubble of the eye tracker was about 5x-6x smaller than it was in the first scene, and the color was changed to match the HUD of the aircraft you're flying it would be perfectly fitting.
      It would definitely help me keep track of the other aircraft as my resolution is usually low due to slow internet.

    I'm using Tobii eyetracker 4c for near 3.5 years, and thinking, that it's awesome thing, even if it have considerably worse headtracking than model 5. As my experience shows, the best variant for viewers is next: grey color (somewhere in the middle between white and black), 2 or 3 times smaller bubble than you have in this video and a little bit taller trace.
    It will be not that distracting, but still show your gaze, and beacause of smaller size it will show your gaze a bit more precisely.
    Also this device is useful for other games with Tobii support. Elite: Dangerous, for example. But its functionality is implemented the best in Deus Ex: Mankind Divided... as for me.
    I wish, i could get Eyetracker 5, but unfortunately too expensive for Russia.
    So, i think its awesome device and it will give your viewers completely new experience in your videos.

    I like green a lot, partially because it usually matches cockpit/hud backlighting, I also think that a smaller more focused circle would be better, maybe about ~80% the size it is now. Also I should mention if you stream on twitch I've seen it in use but the viewer has their own control on the size, colour and shape of the tracking point.

    • @tigerpjm
      @tigerpjm 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Green is used because it's the colour most visible to the human eye - which makes it the most intrusive colour, not the least.
      Red is the least intrusive colour, which is why soldiers use red light in the field if they are forced to use illumination. Your pupils contract less and recover dilation quicker, and red light is more difficult to see over distance because it's the least energetic frequency in the visual spectrum.

      Which would be fine if it were being used to identify objects inside the cockpit.
      But it isn't. The reason it's being considered is to help in the identification of objects (aircraft) outside of the cockpit.
      Also, red is the least "bright" of all colours. And there's nothing saying you need to use bright red. Have a look at the video, red almost appears black when you're not looking directly at it.

    So, I’ve been studying operator movements and attention, and this is super helpful in cockpit for that reason. Tying together how you assemble the right state and in what order you check instruments in a quick scan downwards. I’ve worked on US Navy nuclear reactor control panels and data visualization in computing and we do use eye gaze studies to understand how people use dashboards and software. I know for nuclear operator training, we tell people where we look at even point at instruments by hand to get backup confirmation before taking action. Of course, nuclear reactors require a lot of attention but are less time critical most of the time, but the idea is to train in the attention sequence so that during an emergent situation you’ve got a routine nailed down that you can speed through without making mistakes or tripping up on judgement errors.
    I think outside the cockpit, seeing how you deal with BVR engagements where you’re looking at the sky for contrails and then checking and operating the radar is also instructive. Even more than after the merge.
    I guess if anything I wish the eye gaze outline were a tiny bit lighter. Just barely enough to indicate.

    I think the circle is cool in those niche situations like when the bandit is very small and may not be visible at a low resolution.
    And for showing what to watch in a bvr fight, I don't play dcs (this will change Im saving for the hardware) or fly planes so reading the instrumentation can feel like trying to read another language at times and its really helpful to see what you are looking at because its not always obvious.
    Otherwise for a dogfight where the bandit is close and it's obvious what's going on and where to look I prefer the circle to not be on the screen.
    Also I liked when the circle was the same color as the hud, it made it feel less out of place.

    It helps us watching to follow your planning and thoughts, especially the things you talk about, when the bandit disppears against the ground clutter. Or when you are setting up a BVR fight, we can follow your thoughts by following your eyes inside the cockpit (though lots of us wont know automatically what every instrument and guage is, like you do). So well worth an extensive try out.

    I would suggest in splitting your videos in your "regular" style uploads without showing the tracker bubble, and do 1-2 videos a week with a more "tutorial" style, where you go more in depth with your analysis of how to BVR/Dogfight. Keep up the content man, I try and watch every day! Its really been helping me out in DCS!

    Would recommend NOT turning on the bubble at all; we can see generally in what direction you're looking at simply by camera change - there'a already enough cockpit clutter that makes things difficult to see, that I believe the bubble (though very interesting) might obscure even more. Couple that with HMDs and woof....

    I also use tobii 5c with 34" curved monitor, if mounted to the butom of the monitor theere are like 2-3 cm of the edges wich the eyetracking is not working, i fixed it by mounting it half way betwen the desk and monitor on an custom desk mount, and aligned half way betwen the inside and outside of the monitor curve, since then everithing works as intended and eyetracking is piking up even the edges and corners of the monitor.

    Hi !
    I also have the Tobii 5 on DCS and I've deactivated the eye tracking because it was to sensitive, especially for reading the instruments. But I can clearly see on your demonstration that your view is very smooth and accurate. Is it possible to share your settings in the description ? It could help me a lot in DCS !
    Thank you very much in advance.

    I never used any head tracking device and I struggle to fully understand how it works. For example you wanna look to the left you move your head left and the visual moves in the game but at that point you’re not looking at the screen because you moved your head left?

    In situations were you are able to see the bandit, but it is impossible to see it on a phone screen it would be great to have the eye tracker, but in every other situation it is distracting und kinda Ruin the immersion.
    Furthermore it would would make it possible to see if you change switches in the cockpit, which is quite good if you aren't used to the cockpit of the plain.

    Ohhh, i totally love the eye tracker! It is so helpful in so many ways... It makes it easier to follow and understand and it helps to know where the other planes are so much! For the color I personally would leave it green as in the last part of the video, I think it fits really well with the instruments in the cockpit and isn’t an aggressive contrast like the red. Although you can see the red better sometimes, I really don’t like it because it contrasts so much. So my color ranking is: green (1); white (2); red (3). I hope you keep the I tracking, I like it and it helps a lot!
    PS: Keep up the good work, your videos are great, I love each and every one of them!

    The Tobii eye tracker technology was designed for testing web page usability/interaction analysis, and the Track IR series were originally designed to allow people with significant paralysis to interact with a computer (controlling a pointer by moving their head). Cases were someone saw a device and saw a new use for it.

    This is 100% beneficial to have. It'll be good to toggle the bubble on/off at will during gameplay, but it's far more beneficial to have on than off as a viewer. Even if you're just looking down at your systems or cockpit.

  • @Bullet4MyEnemy

    I think it’s awesome, and the original translucent/grey circle was the best.
    As a content creator the thing you can never fully capture is your own perception of the information you’re receiving.
    Recording your screen means we as viewers receive the exact same information as you, but how you as the player interpret it, what matters most, what your focus is, is completely different to someone merely observing.
    This thing is an awesome tool for helping blur that line between player and observer experience and perception.
    Is it expensive? Because I want it.

    It seems to me that the tracker's indicator circle isn't actually bringing as much value to the table as the new tracker just .... working so well. I understand your concerns as you expressed them, but we can see *really clearly* where you're looking, and I am convinced it's not because the indicator is there. I would suggest you run without it and let Tobii work its magic.

    This would be unbelievably good for tutorial videos, where you can just naturally look around to indicate a button, display, or section of the cockpit. Also in warbird ground attack, would make it very easy to highlight a target/target zone before an attack. Very cool stuff, look forward to see what you do with it.

    Dude, green bubbles are sweeet!! Depending on video type, could be always on, or could come on temporarily when bandit is hard to see but close. You’ve got great intuition for what most of us want. I find many times you answer a question seconds after I think of it. Trust your gut with the timing, but this is 100% an incredible tool.

  • @clivereid
    @clivereid 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    There's certainly no harm in trying it out. The bubble looks like it could be quite useful for revealing how you scan the sky for targets (I still personally struggle predicting where they'll be after a few turns). As others have said, matching it to the HUD means it doesn't jar like it might otherwise.

  • @Stant123
    @Stant123 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I think green to match the visor HUD would be best, and maybe a smaller circle if it can do that, and if it's possible, get rid of the morphing of the circle as it moves around so it acts more like a pointer (static circle) rather than a blob that's chasing your actual eye movements.

  • @alannickelson9565

    Really like the eye designator ring (EDR) when you are on instruments and sensors. It also helps to keep up on switches I'd think. For instruments and sensors, the EDR could be smaller, definitely. Outside the cockpit, I'd say maybe a little smaller, but probably not much. Wouldn't want to turn it into an obstruction or much of an distraction. Color, probably HUD green.. or matching HUD if not. I'm going to rewatch this later. The first time around the EDR was bugging me some at first. I'm not sure if it was because it was foreign or because of the color (or shape changing).. but by the end I think I might have been turned into a fan? :)

  • @ATP-Flo
    @ATP-Flo 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    You could use two layers in your editing program and if necessary you could fade the image with the eyetracker over it in certain situations. Just as you did with the red circle in other videos. Having it the whole time is a bit distracting and kills the immersion. But probably it could be helpful in some situations and maybe it also helps to understand when you check RWR and stuff in FOX-3 scenarios. It's a nice gadget! // EDIT: Oh it's basically what you said and showed in the video. 😀 In BVR its amazing.

    Hah! Great minds think alike. I literally bought one of these yesterday and so far am loving it for the same reasons as you. Larger display, cameras/sensors always to high etc. It’s taking some dialling in but the immersion it adds is fantastic. To answer your question the on screen gaze indicator would be handy in a pure tutorial but your content is fine as is IMHO. I got this to use with star citizen, MSFS and IL2 mainly but it doesn’t appear to be supported anymore in IL2 despite being listed on the tobii website but apart from that I’m loving it so far.

  • @church493

    My view: bubble kills immersion. Don't use it for streams. But if your view by use of tobii will be following/centering on foe most of time, it should also ease locating it in video, so need for attention bubble is reduced.
