It's nice to see you being recognized in the DCS newsletter. I've enjoyed your work.
Thanks for taking the time to make this video. I'm getting a Tobii Eye Tracker 5 today.
How was it??
I used VR for ages, but switched to Track IR. I haven't used the VR since.
Same.
I LOVE my Tobii eye tracker. I bought it for star citizen but obviously it was a game changer for DCS too
Big thumbs up for this video..
I have been using Tobii 5 for over 2 years. Thanks to this video I can check out the DCS Profile you mentioned plus another comment talked about the Beta Camera boost setting.
Nice to see Tobbi continuing to update this product. I have not used my TrackIR 5 for over a year now.
Love my Tobii 5! No hat, no wires ... just fun!
Omg my world just exploded lol! I love track ir but this is next level for those of use that are anti vr. Love the content brother!
How is this holding up against the Trackir in head tracking?
That's the real question. Unless it's better than track IR, it's useless, in my opinion. And to be honest, a wireless track IR would be worth a billion dollars if someone figured that out.
Have used TrackIr since 2015, but giving this a shot based on the video review. Good job!
Hi there, first of all, what a beautiful background image you have here sir :p I have had a tobii for 2 years but I was never able to make it work for DCS properly. It was good for Star Citizen, but not DCS, so I'll give there new DCS profile a try. Your videos are always a treat ;)
what are your thoughts now?
@@Swatmat I sold it to a friend who plays Star Citzen, it works fine in this game. Still trusting my track IR but I ordered a Delan clip to go wireless and it's working perfectly !
This is one amazing piece of technology this is next on my list I am tired of using my mouse to see thanks brother!!
in the meantime you can use opentrack and aitrack in conjunction to get head tracking for free with just a normal webcam
Im glad you like it. I've nothing but problems with mine from getting it to even work with DCS going to just performance being stuttery when panning. Its like it doesnt work with VRR displays (gsync) track ir on the other hand I can lock to 60 or 120 fps and have such silky smooth viewing. I was really hoping tobii would work out, maybe Ill try again but for now it sits and collects dust.
I’ll buy it. 🤷🏼♂️
Been tempted with this, but I'm just a little above arms length away from a 55" display, so not sure how well it would work, as searching seems to suggest for smaller screens. I've tried a few alternatives, but not trackir as its overpriced for what it is and I dont like wearing headsets either if can avoid it
I tried the Tobii on a 55 also, not a good experience.
there’s AI track, a free alternative you can use together with opentrack
I tried it and couldn't stand the constant micro pitching motion. The issue that I have is that the software version that I used only allowed one curve for all of the axis. So, I could get the yaw working, but then the pitch was too sensitive.
What are the benefits of the tobi head tracking over free, open source alternatives, including the classic OpenTrack, AiTrack combo?
Tobii works much better than the free open source software out there. I was iffy and had the same question, but I’m very glad that I purchased a Tobii Eyetracker 5
Man this looks insane
I ordered one and sited you as the reason.
good for fps aim? i can't control mouse and right stick for precision aiming anymore.
That looks incredible. I've been using OpenTrack and AITrack with my webcam and it gets a bit jerky sometimes when I'm looking down to my side consoles. Is there any jumpiness when looking down and left/right with a head tilt?
Yes there a little bit. Sometimes it won't stay perfectly still. Your head will be perfectly still, and it will drift a little bit back and forth. It's not perfect. Some people hate it. I don't mind it, but I prefer TrackIR's tracking over it. BUT! Tobii is wireless. No hardware needed on your head like trackIR, so there's pros and cons.
Seems pretty good! How does it stand against trackIR?
was wondering the same thing
I got Tobii and the overlay works but not in DCS. In the Hub software, I select DCS from the folder. I dont see anything where it says enable tobii??
Not sure why it doesnt seem to work. The overlay correctly shows where my eyes are looking at.
Not sure about how easy this is. It is not straight forward honestly
Could you please tell me more about those two lights you have under your monitor? What are they for and where can I buy them? Thank you
Just ordered this. Was using Freetrack and a webcam up to now, works ok but a bit unreliable. This is the next level of head/eye tracking, looking forward to using it. Pricey but I think it'll be worth the outlay.
Did you like it compared to the freetrack webcam software (prob yes). I've been using webcam software but it's really hard to lock enemies in DCS because it's not precise. Does tobii eye tracker fix that?
I bought it after this review. The issue is that the TOBII dcs profile causes jitters and also bad for dogfight. Any recommendations?
we have the tobii on the sim at work, cant use the eye tracker as it is too hard to select buttons, and in MSFS their is a lot of buttons. the sim is for new hires to fam the cockpit and procedures. might get it for home as I am beginning to hate track IR and this wired headset
It works great in MSFS2020, but I can not get it to work in DCS. I locate the DCS excutable in the Game Hub and then start DCS and no tracking in game, very frustrating since I bought Tobii mainly for DCS non-vr flying.
That's odd. I have had no issue with Tobii working in DCS. Can you confirm that the "headtracker.dll" file is located in the DCS/bin folder as it should? Do you see headtracking in the "Special" section of the settings page in DCS? Does the Tobii Game hub give you a green check next to DCS once running? If it isn't already, make sure DCS and tobii are running as an Admin.
"headtracker.dll" is not in the DCS/bin folder, I do not see headtracking in the "Special" section of the settings page in DCS, under installed games in Tobii Game hub it shows "running" in green letters next to DCS. I am at a lost, the Tobii ghost program works fine, the eye tracking is spot-on. It works great in MSFS2020. @@BogeyDope
@BogeyDope could you please share the link to the DCS profile provided by Tobii? And, if if you wouldn't mind, could you please also share your own Tobii profile for DCS? Thanks in advance!
FYI, I also have the Tobii Eye Tracker 5, and it's awesome! Works practically flawlessly in all lighting conditions, and especially at night / low-light conditions, making night ops in a dark room extremely immersive :D. Also, it's pretty accurate considering you don't need to put any sensor on your head (cap or headphones) like with TrackIR. But, I still wish I could fine-tune the curves a bit, so I'd love it if you could share the profiles as requested above ^, thanks :)
Tobii DCS Profile is in the description now. Thanks for the heads up. As for my profile, I'm not sure how to share that here.
@@BogeyDope I'll be happy to get your profile as well. If not the profile, can you just name the changes you made on top of Tobii's profile? Thanks and congrats on the sponsor!
Hi, are you still using the tobii as your go to head tracking device? I bought a tobii5 a few months ago but I can't get it to feel on point. it is to sensitive when looking on the instruments and hud., but when I make it less responsive I can't look outside well enough to follow my bandit. Do you have any sugestions for setting it up correctly, cause I spend hours on it and it still feels nok. And Thx 4 all the F 16 tutorials. Kind regards from a noob DCS pilot.
Can you look behind you to check your six, like with TrackIR?
Yes. th-cam.com/video/v-oKbDcTcEc/w-d-xo.htmlsi=kwzO_RNFy1N78Tzg
ive been using trackir for years, although they update it for games, they havent updated the actual software in years. might have to look into Tobii
after seeing the price ill stay with trackir lol
Oooooo thats tempting, prefer the look of this to the TrackIR, between this and the AimXY, and I think its in the lead atm...
How much impact it has on pc performance? I have a mid range pc that’s why i am asking
How does it work for eyeglass wearers?
Great question. Unfortunately I don't have glasses and so I wasn't able to test this properly. However, Tobii has an official statement on this very topic here - help.tobii.com/hc/en-us/articles/210249865-Glasses-lenses-and-eye-surgery
Thank will check out. I have VR and TrackiR. Just sometimes need a break from vr
Works just fine with glasses
is it good that im using mouse to move camera
Can it be used for work in application like excel, photoshop , etc?
It looks impressive, way more than TrackIR
i am not sure if its worth the money. i am currently using ai track + opentrack which works really fine.enigma cold war i have more then 50 kills.only downside is its kinda not sensitive when you zoom in all the way down
Seems like a great way for me to play outside of VR! Any idea if using a curved monitor affects tracking at all?
Not that I have noticed. They provide a special bracket for curved monitors. You can see mine stuck to the bottom.
I downloaded the newer version of of the game hub and it how allows to use individual curves for the yaw, pitch, roll axis. One thing I cannot figure out is how to install the camera boost profile. The Tobii web page only has a download link, but no instructions on what to do with it. How did you install the camera boost profile.
Thanks for the information. I was about to abandon the Tobii 5 tracker as I didn't realize that they updated their software.
On the top right of the UI. Click the down arrow drop down menu and you'll see import there. Click that and then browse to the profile file
Thanks.
Tobii eye tracker 5 doesnt work with window 11 altough I activated eye control in windows settings.
I used it in Windows 11 fine. What were you trying to do with it?
How does performance compare to TrackIR?
I have to uninstall Tobii Eyetracker 5 because it keeps on crashing DCS World Open Beta. Any suggestions?
Does anyone prefer this over TrackIR? I'd love to ditch the head gear.
Can I use it as a mouse replacement/for cursor movement + clicking in the browser or something as well? If so, does it work with multiple displays?
I have Tobii Eye Tracker 5 and I have Track IR. Tobii is really good once you figure it out! I like Tobii. I like Track IR too.
Love the IL76 livery...
Are those flashing purple/red lights actually visible or is that the camera picking them up??
They're infrared. You can't see them.
DCS, IL2, Euro Truck/ATS...all unplayable without head tracking IMO. I use a Trackhat and it has always worked great, but I would like something where I don't have to wear my headphones to use it. Unfortunately Tobii is about $400 CAD, which is about 4 times what I paid for my Trackhat clip (wired). I don't know that it's worth it for that.
Hi! What monitor do you use? I need a new one to go with the Tobii 5!
ASUS TUF GAMING VG27WQ 27" WQHD 2560 x 1440
@@BogeyDope how do you get on with it? I have an old 27” Asus 1920x1080 and thought a bigger curved monitor would be better but your screen looks incredible!
@@Danwabe It's a nice monitor. I want to upgrade to 4k some day soon though. Just got to get the funds.
I'd be curious how you are using OBS to capture video so nicely? I fly VR and it's always a struggle to effectively capture video free of distortions
Me personally I either use the OpenVR plugin for OBS or LIV (free software on Steam that adds smoothing and stabilization)
Your just now using this?
I assume TrackIR 5 is still better?
Is the lag a problem
In my personal opinion, it doesn't bother me.
❤❤❤i love bogey dope
Because this isn't a full review or comparison I think people should know this:
Historically, eye tracking has never mattered in DCS so though the bonus functionality may be useful for other software, and Tobii does head tracking on par with TrackIR (maybe better, but nothing anyone ever mentioned). However, it has a substantial flaw that has always prevented it from being "the" clear choice for head tracking given an unlimited budget: that is the monitor mounting. It has to be on the bottom center of your monitor and not everyone has a desk setup where this works and makes sense. As far as I can tell, this is still a requirement and is a complete non-starter if you can't pull it off and flight simmers are more likely than not going to have something placed there. If Tobii was able to mount above my monitor like my TrackIR is, I would happily switch to it.
This video allowed me to learn a feature that is somewhat compelling to want to use Tobii though which is the indicator of where you're looking. This is definitely a valuable debriefing tool if you're OBS recording -- being able to see what you didn't check or notice RWR, a new radar contact, or you just searched the wrong space in the air for some reason. The only problem with it is the amount of effort it takes watch back your own recording and resources (hard drive space) one needs to have a set up that makes sense. Also, in general, I'm already at a point where I have solid situational awareness in terms of knowing a plane or SAM exists -- if you didn't know it was there, then it's obvious you didn't check RWR, ignored it, or failed to resolve/correlate where it actually is. Beyond that, the only awareness is knowing where missiles are coming from and often times you aren't really supposed to react to those "on sight." It's a last ditch effort to rely on spotting a smoke trail from a completely unknown direction and reactively use countermeasures. I think the better potential use case is content creators. If someone who's good at dogfighting and/or BVR showed this sort of indicator, it would go a long way in teaching new simmers what the attention looks like for someone that knows what they 're doing.
That's nice and all, but many people fly WW II planes in DCS where you NEED to look around. :)
I don’t know why but I bought one after watching this video! Cant wait for it to get here.
Have been using vr for a long time and the vr is starting to look arcadey vs without so im giving it a go
I just purchased this two weeks ago and now I am returning it.
In my opinion it's horrendous in DCS and in MSFS 2020. I could not get it to be remotely near as accurate, precise and smooth as TrackiR5. I tried a distance of 60cm to 95cm.
You need to be very close to this thing attached to the bottom of your screen. It didn't like to be used on a LG C1 55 inch 16:9 OLED. But it worked better on a Samsung G9 curved 32:9 49 inch monitor.
It doesn't even work in IL-2 GB's unless you use the 'Face Track' software with the Tobii camera.
Even with eye tracking turned off it was misbehaving with facial movements when I was talking, smiling and laughing.
It also has a spazz attack when I drink my coffee, water and vape my e-cigarette.
I would never consider streaming with it on, unless it was just to track my eyes so people could see where I was looking and that's where I think Tobii has it's uses in that your audience can see where you are looking on your monitor. But I would have the TrackiR doing all the head tracking camera movement.
I didn't even try it in Assassins Creed Valhalla or racing simulations but I expect it would be better suited for that as the movements aren't as extreme.
I think TrackiR is still the best for 6 DOF flat/ curved screen camera movement.
Nice, one massive drawback of TrackIR is that the infrared lights are sticking up front of your headset. So some axis are essentially unusable unless you adjust the curve just perfectly which is almost impossible on their software. I will get this product!
NGL
I miss radio BD voice :)
Heavily overpriced for what it is. Stick with a $30 alternative Delan Clip. far better tracking imo
I swear I cant find not one review of Tobii that shows it in a dogfight. You are looking max 45deg in this video so its a bit better but what about....an actual dogfight where your having to turn around in your seat while looking left and upwards and then lean around the seat to get as best a view of enemy about to cut your plane in half?
Here you go. Check Six demo - th-cam.com/video/v-oKbDcTcEc/w-d-xo.html
@@BogeyDope thanks. To lighten my anxiety a bit its unlisted video with 8 views Thanks again.
Damn that's expensive
Pitty Edtracker pro isnt made anymore. Superb performance and low price. I dont see how this is superior to trackir. Ed tracker is. And this is even more expensive than trackir.
Thanks for not showing us how to actually install it to DCS.🤦🏼♂️
There isn't an install procedure for DCS. I go over the install procedure for the tobii software and how to get it setup at around the 4min mark. Once it's setup and configured, you just launch DCS. I didn't have to do anything else. As I explained at 4:50. What specifically are you looking for? Maybe I can help??
it's garbage for DCS, I tried it and returned it, never again. TrackIR is infinitely better
More of an add and less of a review tbh
that’s because it’s a sponsored video…
@@ohyeahyeah-ql3jh yeah but the title specifically says “review” folks get sent stuff all the time and give their actual honest opinions about it. This was just an ad
