- Another WCW Superstar Series video gets watched, and this time, it's "Sting Unmasked". The Stinger talks about sending Big Van Vader to the WWF, his transformation into the "Crow" Sting, his Starrcade match against Hollywood Hogan and his time in the nWo Wolfpac.

I'm literally mouthing along to every word in this doc, bcuz I've seen it so many times! Guess you could say I'm still a Lil stinger! At 40 yrs old
The real question- are you drinking sprite or are you a animal? 😊
Me too at 41
Love it! Never lose that inner child. Will keep you young forever
@@mentalphilanthropist35An animal, an animal!
Haha. I had a bunch of these WCW tapes
Sting is just a really likeable guy and a good dude overall.
No, he's not
@@NateNizzleGet bent, spaz.
Yeah he definitely isn’t. I’m part of the Crockett family and was around him quite a bit. He’s an asshole like Lex. Only time they are nice is if they are at some FanFest and you are paying them money for a signature
@@NateNizzle Care to elaborate? Is it because he's a born-again Christian and most born-again Christians are weird douchebags? Aside from that I can't really think of anything particularly negative about Sting.
@@ToruKun1 sting in my top 5 all time wrestlers/ superstars. He was amazing growing up watching him. Wwe tried to ruin his legacy tho.. smh
This video holds a special place in my heart, I remember my mom buying me this tape back in the day for my 7th birthday. I remember I was a bit bummed out because I was such a WWF fan at that time and knew very little about WCW outside of the NWO, but I’m glad she had got it for me. This video is what got me interested in actually watching WCW and made me a fan of Sting, and I still own it till this day even though I no longer own a VCR 😂
So funny, I was a huge WWF fan and didn't like WCW much until Hall and Nash defected. I remember running out of WWF videos to rent at Blockbuster and "settling" for WCW videos and that filled in so many blanks of cross federation fueds and storylines. Crazy how hard it was then to stay plugged into everything.
@@DimJongUn I was always more of a WCW fan but still watched WWF every week. I would watch Nitro live every Monday night and tape RAW is War on the VHS player in our other room. I used to wake up at like 4 AM on Tuesday morning so I could watch all of RAW before school in the morning because all my friends were WWF marks and would spoil the show for me if I didn't watch it before school. I never missed a Nitro or a WCW PPV though.
Damn I miss those days so much.
@@Kramerica962 a lot of it was regional. I grew up in the northwest and the nwa territory there was already fading in the early 90s when I became a fan. We had WWF and then this weird channel that also randomly showed the Atlanta Braves had some other type of wrestling on Saturdays. That was my exposure to the early WCW. Ended up loving both promotions in retrospect.
Your mama is a real one 💯
Sting is the most well-rounded wrestler. He had size & strength to pull off power moves. He could pull off high flying moves, pull off submissions, his mic work was passable, and he was an absolute workhorse. He should be on the Mt Rushmore of pro wrestling.
Especially as surfer Sting 🏄♂️
pulling off good babyface promos is hard. He was more than passable
I'm 42 and grew up loving WWF/E yet Stinger was always one of my favorites. Literally used to watch WCW on Saturday nights, before the was a Nitro or Monday night wars, at my grandmother's house because that was where Sting was. God Bless Steve Borden.... Hopefully, AEW does him right and gives him a proper sendoff when he FINALLY retires...
Oh, Jesus. I had no idea Sid had one! 🤣 That’s gonna be gold, dude!
This is probably the best wcw old school tape yet
Had this VHS as a kid in 1998 or 1999 and wore the tracking out.
I know Sting was still pretty much in character, but back then this was as close as it got to a behind-the-scenes "shoot" interview and it was incredible seeing Sting so candid/outspoken.
This tape is so tame compared to unlimited backstage wrestling insight available now via a simple TH-cam search.
I got this for Christmas in '98. Watched it SOOOOO many times.
Sting was the last Infinity Stone Vince McMahon needed to run the WCW Gauntlet an bury all their Biggest Stars in one snap!
Never had Ole, Eaton, or Caudle either
Booo go take your comic books somewhere else
This was my FAVOURITE tape as a kid. It was so sick to see as a young WCW fan; and the first time I heard his real name 😂
same here lol plus seeing an actual interview of him without wearing any type of sunglasses back then was extremely rare so it was one of my favorites too back in the day
Sting is part of the greatest promo in wrestling history…
“All I have to say is our partner is going to shock the world because he is none other than The ShockMaster”
Sting is buff Jim Carrey. I can't unsee it.
Never noticed that before, but now I can't either.
Ive said this ever since I saw this tape.
I don't see it
Sting should have painted his face green one time in his career and become "the mask" sting....somebody stop me!!! 😂😂😂
I feel like the Bischoff in those interviews is stuck between several realities. He's like aging right before our eyes and then getting young again one second later
Yeah he funnily looks older here than during the New Blood stuff in 2000 with the silver hair 😂
In 97, he was almost constantly smiling in character, as WCW was winning the war. By 98, when they were starting to lose, he looked to be very stressed suddenly and aged quicker.
This is amazing, I am pretty sure Sting Unmasked is in a crate of DVD/Tapes next to me in my basement right now.
Its nice to see the icon unmasked. Also fun to see some testimonials. Great to see him continue to raise talent and wrestle to this day!
Nothing better then seeing a video of any kind related to the stinger
bought this as little stinger and loved this tape.. Was so hyped to see him unmasked haha.. The biggest swing in picking this one over the goldberg video and boy am i glad i did. watched this tape so many times.
I got this on a double feature vhs tape, with the Goldberg one. I guess Goldberg's tape wasn't selling on its own 😂
@@gibbie80s61 makes sense.. RTW has really made me scratch my head over my hype for goldberg. otherwise a lot of my feelings still match
I like how he kept Kayfabe, but still revealed new info. Def way better than the other videos.
The music is hilarious. I felt like I was watching an "on-the-job training tape."
All I can tell you, Wrestling Bios got it going on. This is the rewatch of my occasionally drunken 20s, so it's great to relive it today with a clear head and better narration.
Hmm never knew Sid had one of these, that'll be a hoot. Never seen this one either and always wanted to do so, thank you so much for covering it! Sting came off as humble as I figured he would be, the Vader jab was hilarious though I bet he enjoyed saying that he musta been a pain for him to work with. DDP's is super fun, one of the most motivating things I've ever watched.
Hope Sid says kick or be kickin in his vid.
he actually has two. the only one to garner that distinction.
The Vigilante, The Icon, This is Sting. *Sting screams*
Wait what?!! Sting is from Nebraska? How did I not know this?!! Childhoods ruined…well knowing Undertake is from Death Valley still mellows me out…and Razor Ramon Scarface similarities is only a coincidence too
I used to love this tape. Big Sting fan. Seeing him without the face paint and listening to him talk about his career, I was real happy with the video. Thanks for covering this and giving me some nostalgia.
I had this! Was a cherished possession lol. Great memories
I think in another timeline, Sting is an amazing actor, he clearly understands theatrics, drama, and storyline timing. ❤
Sting and Ric Flair were always my favorite wrestlers in WCW
I can't believe Alex Wright didn't get his own Superstar video!!
it sounds like he got to pick the music for this one as a consolation 😂
I think this has been my favorite of the three videos so far. The tidbit about why he (and the Warrior) starting wearing face paint is certainly the best little behind the scenes nugget we've gotten from any of them.
I used to have this VHS and I loved it. Sting's interviews have always been great.
I remember when my dad brought home the WCW tapes from his trip to America for me and I watched the vid on Sting over and over again. Always enjoyed it.
Always loved Sting. A true Icon
I watched this so many times as a teenager. It was such a good tape.
I can't tell you how many times I watched this tape as a kid. Thanks for bringing back some great memories! I much prefer these style of shoot interviews that are more in character with some truth sprinkled in.
I loved Sting so much as a kid. I watched this tape a lot lol
Love going through these videos. Hope there are more to come.
I still have my original copy of this video I LOVED it. I love/still love Sting. Kept waiting patiently for you to review this one! :D
"He's gone because of the old Sting! Imagine what the New Sting would do!" I remembered that just from the thumbnail, I think I still have that VHS!
As a sting fan, I brought the video watched it over and over loved it, it gave enough insight for it's time and the music fitted. I love Sting 💘 always have, he is a all time great.
Thanks for covering, interesting perspective.
This was my fave tape back in the day, I wore this one out. Sting was always my fave and seeing him unmasked like this had me shocked as a 8 year old
I watched this vhs so many times still have it. this is probably one of the best WCW videos Love it sting fan for Life
Probably my all time favorite
I thought that was bret hart in the thumbnail for a sec because of the hair 😂 looking forward to this vid :) always great to see content from you wrestling bios, i hope youre not overworking yourself because the amount of content you put out even on breaks is crazy 🙏❤️
I also had this tape back in the late 90's during my high school years. Nice to see you review this.
Thanks for the upload. Looking forward to Sting’s 2nd video, Back in Black
Keep this series going please!!! These were some of my first WCW vhs tapes my parents my brother and myself!
Gotta give an honorable mention to Scott Hall in this one because you get to see him selling in alot of the highlight reels and he was always so good at it. I've grown to have alot of respect for his career/skills as I've looked back over the years.
"Surfer" Sting is by far my favorite early-mid 90's guy outside of WWF, him and Bret Hart were always "all time" for me with Hogan, Warrior and Undertaker filling in my top 5 until Austin notified the world about 3:16's and Ass Whippings
😄👍
Oh my Godddddddddddddddd. I owned this tape!!!! It's funny you mention them being in character though since Back in Black is when he's literally just acting like Sting in character the entire time. Loved them both.
My dad still has this tape! I would watch this so much when i was little. Great video!
Favorite Wrestler of all time, it's a tragedy how we lost him for so many years of him in his prime. I personally hope to see him come back in the original face paint one more time. I don't need the bleached hair, but to see the original Stinger come out Woooooh😃
Brings back memories watching this as many times as I did and the commentary was on point lol
I remember watching this around 2002, what a throw back, thank you for making these videos.
thanks man, havent seen this before. top quality as usual.
I have always loved this video and have watched it so many times over the years. I'm a Stinger 4 life and love this video for better or worse!
I had this tape as a kid. I absolutely loved it. Especially as I was WWF kid growing up, it was a great insight into early WCW.
Dude, you are the Wrestling Nostalgia King! i love this channel, man! 😎
I've watch this video so much! Every day I watched it. My favorite.
I watched this video tape over and over as a kid. I never knew Sting in the earlier years so I cherished that vhs tape hearing him in conversation
Sting was one of my first favorites when I got into it in 97/98...I wore the hell out of this tape, it was eye opening seeing his older stuff and WCW back in the day. Awesome seeing this get covered on one of my fav channels.
Dude, I had this video and burned it from end to end at least 4,678 times lol they sold because it was the only taste of extra content that a lot of us could get. Awesome memories
Honestly, I've been following your content for a long ass time....still one of the most underrated channels on YT
I loved the Superstar Series tapes - I got into wrestling watching WCW Worldwide on UK Channel 5 with my grandmother, and I used to buy her a VHS every Friday after school, starting with these releases. I hope you cover the Ric Flair one. Now that VHS is all but obsolete, I wonder if younger fans can even imagine the magical importance of these documentaries!
My favorite wrestler of all time. I wanted to be just like him as a kid. His matches with The Great Muta and Vader were awesome
Haha. I got this as a Christmas present. I loved it. Was a Sting fan all the way back in the surfer days but I'd moved away from wrestling when Sting first started his Crow phase but I got back in shortly before he went Wolfpac. Really wish I'd been in from the moment he went Crow. However this video didn't have anything really new for me but it was a nice little piece of memorabilia.
These are some of my favorite videos you do. I don't think young people can fully grasp how important these old VHS were to early fandom.
Absolutely love this channel!
Sting was my favorite wrestler back then. I would have loved to watch this back then.
I watched this tape SOOOO many times as a kid haha so awesome
These tapes are really something different some seem to completely break kayfabe while others keep it going or a mix of both. Also seen like Alex Wright produced the music.
Perfect timing!! Sweet FA on tv Cheers Ryan!!!!
IVE WAITING FOR YOU TO COVER THIS SINCE THE BEGINNING. Please do both sting videos!
Would love to see you do some videos on the ruthless aggression era, ecw and tna I love the monday night wars era but there are great stories elsewhere
Bro....I can remember the day these came out. I was at my towns Walmart. I'm 20 yo, killing time, and seeing this and the other tapes in the series. Sting was the first one I bought.
I had been a fan forever but knew nothing of the inside world. These tapes blew me away.
i never watched wcw growing up, so to learn all that i have in the last few years watching your content is amazing! i feel like i might actually go back and watch some of the old stuff in chronological order like i would with wwf. i do have to say though, that Sting is probably comparable to bret hart in some ways.
I bought this VHS back in the 90's, first time I saw Sting unmasked. Still have it but recorded over.
Silent crow Stinger is always my favorite
As a kid I watched this VHS all the time. I'm happy to see so many people here cherish it as well.
My older brother, Mike Murphy, owned this VHS tape. We were huge fans of WCW and Sting was one of our favorite wrestlers. We would watch this video once a week. I was surprised to see how he looked without face paint!
My brother passed away in 2022. RIP Mike. I wish I could watch this with you one more time.
Dood... are we gonna see individual wrestlers from day 1 as episodes in your series?
Not gonna say that will or would b easy, but dang that would make so many people happy to see how characters got their starts.
Many only knew Sting and Ultimate Warrior crossed paths because of Warriors issues.
Not many people know how Steve Blackman got to the WWE and from where
Nor Alex Wright or Disco Inferno.
Thank you for all that you've done already and hope your break was cathartic.
Heh I like how Ryan pronounces nothing as “nawthin.” Anyways though great vid as always and can’t wait for Sid’s “kick or be kickin” vid.
Unfortunately, the WCW home video opening music will be in my head for the rest of my life. I haven't heard it in almost 25 years, and I still remember it .
I loved this video as a kid. However, I always wanted to see a return of the Surfer Sting. That was the best version to me.
Still have this and watch it occasionally, first wcw vhs I got alongside Uncensored 2000 in a hmv 2 for 1 offer, btw the jokes in this vid are great love it, especially the Lex digs
I had this tape it was great Sting was and still is my favourite wrestler since I first saw him while watching him on WCW Worldwide on a Saturday afternoon after the A-Team and Thunder in Paradise on UTV, the Northern Irish regional ITV station
I used have this On VHS during Highschool days. Fun memories .Back when WWF and WCW were doing Career highlights of the respective Superstars of their own organizations. But then in the next Decade when DVDs were out WWE were now able to combine like for example Stone Cold Steve Austin career not just their WWE career but his WCW and ECW now that WWE had bought WCW and ECW video Library. Back in the 90s they could only do career highlights on a Superstar careers in the company their strictly in. Now these days they can combine with documentaries of their life and career.
Damn I remember watching this when u was 13 years old. It was my uncles tape and i always loved watching it. Much better days
Showtime folks 😂
So nice to show nL Slip's WCW tape. It's great to see Slip without Facepaint and talk about his WCW career.
I was recently sacked from work, so then I had no idea what I was going to do but that day I made a decision to paint myself and I then walked back into the office of the man who sacked me and he told me I could have his job, I am now a manager and it’s all thanks to facepaint!
Since you took a look at the Steve Austin videos, can you please do one on "Undertaker: The Phenom" & "Undertaker: This is My Yard" next?
Sting: WOOOOOOOO, It's Showtime @WrestingBios
WCW's Franchise😊🎃👾🎭😅
I had this tape. Loved it. Only one out of that bunch I bought. Couldn't afford much back then anyway so I had to go with Sting. By the time I had more money to waste they didn't stock them in the store I got it at. Looks like I got the best one.
I see DJ ALEX WRIGHT was the music producer for this.
Imagine a universe where Glacier became SO MASSIVE but also disgruntled that he had bargaining power when jumping over to WWF. And he instantly becomes a top contender for the world title once he officially jumps ship to WWF😂🤣😂
I had the vhs as a kid and wore it out. I was just thinking about this video the other day. And here we are.
I had this VHS when I was little. Loved it.
Two wrestling bios in a row where Baltimore crowds from the 90s came through with massive pops (last one was for hhh in his raw return in reliving the war). Also Baltimore is where Ron Simmons won the WCW title, and that crowd popped pretty good too. Charm City crowds went off in the day, hun.
Pretty soon man you will be at a Million subscribers
I was just a kid when I got this
I used to watch this video religiously
Sting is the only reason I watched wrestling period 🖤
