The Self Destruction of the Ultimate Warrior was a WWE DVD released in 2005. To date this documentary has not been released on WWE Network nor Peacock due to the content and tone of the presentation; it's been described as a hit piece.
Ultimate Warrior was one of WWF's most colourful superstars and fans in the late 80s and early 90s couldn't get enough of his over-the-top character. Warrior became so popular that he even dethroned Hulk Hogan at Wrestlemania in what was seen by many as a passing of the torch moment. The Ultimate Warrior would leave and return to WWF / WWE multiple times throughout his career though and many stories and rumors would surface in regards to Jim Hellwig himself and how he carried himself backstage.
Warrior was asked to contribute to a DVD project in 2005 and Warrior refused. So instead of getting a documentary presentation that would likely praise the Ultimate Warrior, the WWE went in the other direction by releasing "The Self Destruction of the Ultimate Warrior", a show that highlighted a few of Warrior's career milestones but it also included a lot of guys ripping Warrior apart. It was seen by many as a burial of both The Ultimate Warrior character and Jim Hellwig himself, and Warrior decided to sue the WWE when the DVD was released in stores.
This video takes a look at the entire documentary.

Maybe one day they can make a DVD called The Self Destruction of Vince McMahon?

When Warrior’s dad died, it doesn’t matter what their relationship was like. Grief doesn’t follow rules. I could see someone in his shoes suddenly realizing that they no longer had any chance to have a relationship with their dad, and wanting to at least be there for the funeral and take some time to make sense of it.

Controversial or not, Warrior was always popular. I remember when Hogan returned for WM18, WWE had a website poll on who fans thought was his best WM opponent. Warrior won by a landslide, beating out Andre, Savage, and even Rock, who was the company's biggest star at the time.

I love how royally PISSED Christian was about this documentary. Even referenced it in his exit interview before leaving for TNA "so what this going to be 'the self destruction of Christian?'"

I don't care what they say, the warrior return at wrestlemania 8 when he saved hulk hogan is still one of the greatest returns ever!!! The energy in the arena was so high. Still gets me pumped up to this day!!

Paul is sour because Warrior no sold his finish and lost in under 20 seconds. With Warrior being dead, Paul can NEVER get that win back. Good job, Warrior.

Warrior was pure energy. He was the perfect gimmick for his day and age. It's a shame that the WWE disrespected him and themselves with that DVD.

It was an obnoxious hit piece laced with a lot of truth.

WWE loves to rewrite history and belittles other promotions and wrestlers.

He will simply live on forever no matter the controversy. He was a living cartoon character that came to life.

Everything you need to know is in the title "the SELF Destruction of the Ultimate Warrior". This was WWFs way of deflecting any of Warriors controversy's as all SELF inflicted; acting as if hardcore gear abuse pushed on them by the company, had no effect on the superstars. They put how they feel in plain sight!

Man the era of wrestling DVDs were awesome! 2004-2008 I would say were those years!

Dibiase and Heenan really came off as bitter old men in this dvd.

This was quite a thing when the DVD came out, and yeah, it was just the company doing everything they can to bury the Ultimate Warrior.

Basically this documentary is one extreme of WWE's retrospective of the warrior: A complete burial of the guy never giving him much credit for anything and made out of spite.

The Wrestlemania match between Hogan and The Warrior kept me on the edge my seat through out the battle. It was a really good match ! I saw the Warrior as a Champion here in Montreal and the Man looked fantastic! The 20,000 fans were unanimously all behind him ! It was unbelievable! That's what I remember when I think of Jim Hellwig. May he Rest in Peace 🙏
