E! Entertainment were given backstage access to WCW Bash at the Beach 1994 and they used this oppurtunity to interview wrestlers and give their take on the world of professional wrestling. Steve Austin, Dustin Runnels, Big Bubba Rogers and others shared some insight into WCW with some of these superstars opting to stay in-character, and fans also tried to explain what it is about pro wrestling that keeps them coming back for more.
This WCW Profile on E! Entertainment turns out to be a fascinating look on how other media outlets viewed pro wrestling in the mid 90s. While trying to be complimentary, the writers couldn't help reminding everyone that wrestling is fake (even if it was doing big business).
Bryan Pillman came to my school when I was in 1st grade to talk about drugs. He said he would come back and piledrive anyone of us if he found out we did drugs. I'll never forget that.
I'm certain there's at least one kid out there who heard about Pillman's passing and instantly started doing drugs in relief
Loose Cannon 😂
And in all that time you've still never bothered to learn to spell his name...
@@kuinikuinen I was in high school so I smoked a joint lol
That's awesome
Imagine 5 years after seeing this guy named Stunning Steve on this show he becomes the biggest draw in wrestling and a household name across the world
i love seeing old clips like this
Some of his best promos were with ECW. You could see the utter devastation in his eyes that he’s not a top draw yet. Raw emotion. Brilliance 💯
8r99u.
Crazy how life goes sometimes
That's never going to happen.
WHAT
I'm calling it now, when Ryan goes back and does content from before the Monday Night Wars, it's going to be called "Pre-Living the War".
... ooh that's good!
😂
Loved Stunning Steve staying in character. 😂😂😂
WHATTT
Other than the couple of times they got kayfabed here, this is genuinely one of the better "normie" wrestling stories I've seen. Most either completely buy into the "it's fake" aspect and others go along with the kayfabe, but this one actually gave the wink and nod, essentially saying "yeah, it's predetermined, but these dudes are still great athletes and entertainers." Pretty refreshing take, especially considering it's 30 years old.
Yeah, I was ready to cringe all the way through this, but i thought it was handled quite well overall.
Pro wrestling NEEDS to KAYFABE it a WHOLE 'HECK' of a LOT 'MORE'!!!.......
And THAT'S^ a 'SHOOT'!!
Was going to say the same thing……good insight in this vid
It's neat seeing something from this era that isn't (entirely) just a mean-spirited takedown of wrestling. Reporters really thought they were the only ones who knew it was scripted back in those days.
She’s a stunt granny.
Yeah, so many "gotcha" moments as though wrestling fans were stupid, sigh.
Hogan was shooting the show "Thunder in Paradise" around this same time and he was credited as "Terry 'Hulk' Hogan" in the opening credits of that show too.
Yeh, pretty sure when he was in Mr Nanny he's credited as Terry Hulk Hogan too
This is the comment that made WB want to watch every episode of Thunder In Paradise and I refuse to believe otherwise.
Seriously a heel only company would be hilarious
AEW is getting there quick lol
@@Smok3yR1derAEW IS QUICKLY BECOMING A GHEYLORD PERSON COMPANY!!!!!
Scumbag Championship Wrestling
I need to see that
Wasn’t that what Bischoff was aiming for with an NWO only show. That didn’t work, but that may be only because of the guy’s booking and running it.
Hearing Goldust talk about how he’s “family friendly entertainment” is one of the funniest things I’ve evever heard.
It's almost foreshadowing when he dropped the persona for awhile, and was acting like a born again christian lol
It was in 94 before Golddust was born
The clip of Mean Gene towards the end is one of the best things I've ever seen.
Seeing Mick Foley appearing prominently here only reinforces my theory that the people behind the cameras hated him for not giving him a world title
I dont get why his wcw stuff gets outshined by everything else he has ever done. Cactus jack vs vader is outstanding stuff
@@seanbean3826 It's easily top 5 best fights in wcw history, and the only fight I like in wcw other than the cruseweight division or ddp
Hated him for not giving him a world title? That doesn't make sense
I don't quite understand wtf you mean sir...
NOBODY CAN HATE MICK FOLEY, NOR HAS ANYBODY HATED MICK FOLEY. THE ONLY PERSON YOU COULD ACTUALLY ARGUE HATED MICK, WAS MICK HIMSELF.
LEAVE MY BOY OUTTA YOUR B.S BECAUSE THATS THE BOTTOM LINE BECAUSE STONE COLD SAID SO
@@lawrencehackett6479you don't look like you're 12 but you write like a 12 year old wrestling obsessed child 😂
E! is the weirdest channel on TV. I remember watching when they would do shows about the absolute worst songs in history, and then in their next show about celebrity gossip they would play those same songs in the background during vignettes and montages.
Didn't Howard Stern show appear on E? Kinda trying to be an edgier vh1
@@21stcenturyrambo16Yeah He did have a show on E!
I remember when they had a show that made fun of all the 90s talk shows
@@JoeyLamontagne You mean Talk Soup.
@@TMC1982Part2 Yes. It later became The Soup. The show jumpstarted careers like Greg Kinnear, Aisha Tyler and Joel McHale.
21:22 “Do you think these men and women risking their lives are nothing but animals?”
He’s an animal! An ANIMAL!
Remember when Big Boss Man had to go on America's Most Wanted? He looked a lot like someone who was on the show, and people kept calling in to report him.
No but sounds hilarious 😂😂😂
Yes! Him and John Walsh... and they thought Ray Traylor robbed a bunch of stores or something
Man this is a surprisingly good job done by E here. It's a fluff piece, but they didn't play it up as super dumb and over the top. Nice job to the people that put it together!
I almost choked on my coffee at "Boo you, you little shithead", I didn't see that one coming XD
I couldn't afford cable as a kid. And I love that era of the cable-cheater-box
Those that mounted this production in '94/'95 had NO idea how TRULY 'POPULAR' the industry would become in another 3-4 years!!!
Man Austin is such a pro, he is keeping up kayfabe like a legend here...and let's not forget, he did this well into the late 00s and only really started showing his "normal" side as he became more of a podcast personality.
Steve Regal looks so young! What was he, like 25 here right? He was already too good at that point.
Quote of the year "Boo you, you little shithead"
8:52 Some of Hogan's movies in the 90s credited him on the posters or VHS box art as Terry "Hulk" Hogan, so I think that was why E! chose to namedrop him that way.
William Regal looked like Handsome Squidward, wtf!?
Very, very interesting watch. Thanks, WB.
Edit: I chuckled at "Comeback Kid" Hulk Hogan. That's great.
Ryan mate, This was absolutely brilliant. Good on you. Cheers
Love the video. Next time, you should cover the 1999 ESPN Doc on wrestling with WWF/WCW Stars
Great time capsule gem here. Thanks for the vid. Very entertaining! Makes you wonder where all those people who were interviewed are now.
Mark Merrow is such a wholesome guy, I never would have guessed
Right ? I saw a clip of him from 95 on the Jenny Jones show , he was so different than I expected , I've only really seen him in Kayfabe when he jealous of Sables success lol
Damn.
This was excellent, man... Thanks.
I actually watched this all the way back in the 90's, when it was new... but only that one time.
R.I.P. Bobby "The Brain"
R.I.P. "Mean" Gene.
I had the privilege of interviewing Marc Mero a few months ago. The guy couldn't have been nicer, he was a blast to have on.
I thought I was slick calling the hotlines and hanging up before the first minute was up. All I was doing was getting charged the first, and more expensive minute, over and over. I'll never forget the day my dad woke me up with the phone bill in one hand and a belt in the other.
Mean Gene ( R.I.P. ) described best what it means to be a wrestling fan at 22:50. This is an interesting piece of history, thank for sharing
"I'm rooting for Hulk Hogan cause I want Ric Flair to suffer" lmaoooo
given sunnys recent sentencing, seeing her mugshot was perfect
0/10 No Steve "Mufuggin'" Blackman.
"Whatever you believe is whatever you believe"... That's actually a good way to put it
This was incredibly interesting, you were right to just watch along!
Are you gonna possibly do the same thing for WwF
The Richard Beltzer show with Hogan and T , the John stossel WWF interview or a reaction to the Phil Donahue show from 1992 with Vince and Dave and others like that from WWF
Do more of these! This was really interesting!
I miss wrestling before social media
Loved the Narration work on this one. Showed a great amount of personality from a different side. Really enjoyed it.
Well I always enjoy your work Fella.
These looks at ‘90s wrestling ephemera I missed back in the day are why I love this channel, especially the weird stuff like this and that Hulk Hogan infomercial.
That was so awesome what a time capsule great find
A hilarious piece of of work you guys managed together! Thank you! Oh the memories . . . 🤗🤗
Haven’t seen this since I was 5 yrs old. Was a huge wrestling fan and that one day I was randomly flipping thru cable tv and it wasn’t a wrestling day I found this on E!. I was so happy.
When wrestling bios uploads you know it’s gonna be great video
Speaking of great, Exodus does a great rendition of Low Rider along with Slayer's version of Born To Be Wild.
The highlight for me may have been seeing Ray Traylor out of character.
Austin, of course, was awesome even back then. But some of us had caught on to that.
Absolutely loved this! You have the best wrestling channel on TH-cam. I admire how deep you dig to entertain us.
Had a few good laughs here. And I also want to think Aaron Rodgers for being one of your loyal Patreon members.
The ending clip of Mean Gene was a perfect way to end. Another quality vid sir, well done!
Champaigne and caviar! You're a riot! My favorite amswer is when the lil' kid said "it's whatever you believe it to be"... because that was honest from his heart. The other one is when many said it's NOT fake. It's FUN! ...
AND THAT'S THE TRUTH!
Pro Wrestling is SO fun!
"Boo you, you little shithead"
Amazing
I am really hoping for a "Brass knucks, that aren't brass knucks, but we'll call them brass knucks anyway" shirt!!
Seriously, your catch phrases should be tv shirts.
Welcome to Slam Bam Wrestling brought to you by Wrestling Bios!!!
Oh this is exactly the kind of thing I was hoping to find after work today.
Wrestling Bios always coming through with the enjoyable trips to the past while smoking in the present and thinking about the future.
😄👍
This was great. Man, I miss WCW

Linda Hogan sighting

Very true about Mike Tenay, the first time I heard about his radio show was in a Shane Douglas interview on the Forever Hardcore DVD in regards to Dennis Coralluzzo & dropping the NWA belt in ECW.
Bios guy marks out over das wunderkid, good to know.
This is why I miss STUNNING Steve Austin.
WHATTT WHATTT WHATTTT
Marc Mero spoke at my middle school (Willowcreek Middle School, Portage IN)l, I saw him when I was in 6th grade (2015, I believe).
I only got big into Wrestling this year, I've been following it since the last Wrestlemania.
I believe the speech Marc Mero gave was centered around the core value of 'Grit'. He absolutely had a rough life, I only wish I remembered more about that day.
Steve said the same exact thing about chasing dreams on his podcast
I would have gone crazy for this as a kid
Right I went crazy for A&E documentaries in the 2000 I would have loved this
I think this became one of my favorite videos you’ve posted your commentary is top tier definitely would like more, have you ever thought of reviews on the interviews with Michael Landsberg? Or have you done that already?
I loved off the record, it was a fantastic show.
"Nowadays people dedicate their lives to defending the honor of a billion dollar company on social media".
Hahahaha. I took that personally a bit as I have been defending WCW for over 25 years now.
Oh and, major props to you Ryan. As a lifelong Gundam nerd/fanatic/junkie since 1999, and G Gundam being one of my favorites, you made me nerd out (or should I say mark out given the video?) so hard.
Thanks man!!!
WCW For Life.
Steve Austin became bigger than Hogan a few years later and Dustin Rhodes went from a mid card cowboy to the highest paid transvestite that ever stepped into a wrestling ring
and its so funny, this came out two years after i graduated High School..this was the most 90's thing ever!
Really enjoyed this, would love to see more media like it. Love your comments as well!
As a kid, we watched wrestling on TV for free a lot. Because back then, it would come on over the air TV channels. Even TBS, we could get that station over the air with a good outdoor antenna.
Today, to watch the main wrestling shows you have cable TV or the internet. There are tons of wrestling companies you can watch on TH-cam now.
The Documentary reminds me of the A&E version which I hope you do a video on. I forgot the name but it narrated by Steve Allen of all people
i LOVED this, ryan. it feels like we were watching this alongside u on the couch or something. u paced ur self extremely well. i had fun watching this!
Terrific Terry Hogan was actually billed as "Terry 'Hulk' Hogan" in a lot of his movies and in Thunder in Paradise around that point.
Thanks man, this was a treat! I never even knew about this special! I'll bet this isn't available on the WWE Network. This was around the te, that i first started watching wrestling, though many love to make fun of this period, nowadays, i still look back on this era, with a fondness. I actually enjoyed both WCW & WWF, during this period. This was right before my brother & i, stopped watching together, & went on opposite sides. I became all about WCW, & he became all about the WWF. Hope to see more pre monday night wars, stuff like this.
Bravo commentary, had me in stitches 😂
Omg. 90 seconds in and I laughed so hard I woke the baby and my wife. "This is how excited I get for Alew Wright natches" 😂🤣😂🤣💀
“Terry Hulk Hogan” he was billed as in No Holds Barred
Also on Thunder in Paradise which was airing at the time.
Looooong time watcher here. I really dig this video! Keep rocking it. 💪
Nice idea for a vid and yet again, great work WB. See ya again next come Thursday!
14:43 love the Wayne's World "we're not worthy" from 1994 Florida Man here, even if he was still doing this 2 years after the movie came out
This was actually a really good of those times 😎
This is gold! Stunning steve was on point here! Thanks for sharing @wrestlingbios
In 1994 my best friend and I were made fun of for watching wrestling. 3 years later, everyone watched wrestling and we were still made fun of 😂.
I'd like to make fun of you right now, I think you have one more big run left
@@BigBadJerryRogers What makes you think it has ever stopped? I've never been cool a day in my life. The only effect it has had is making me not care what others think of me. lol
@@MyPisceanNature if you genuinely don't care then that is cool. So you're wrong. Wrong!
This is the funniest episode that you've done. Excellent job.
When you mention the end of reliving the war it makes me a little sad but those vids can be on repeat in my home. Also we still have like 2 years left
I really enjoyed this video. Would love more content like this in the future.
Woah WrestlingBios... You're onto something with a heel only promotion!
Great upload good sir. Wood from the Hood is now my favorite wrestling nickname!
"boo you, you shithead" lol
That comment you made at @21:35 was hilarious....the soft laugh and the psychopath for good measure was awesome.
That exact comment made me leave a comment aha
Some of the comments were a bit unpleasant I thought
Randomly saw this dropped and while i dont have time currently to watch it fully i just came by to like and comment. Doing my part in the little unseen supportive ways ftmfw !
I miss when kayfabe gave everyone extra imagination and the ability to lose reality for a bit.
"boo hoo you little shithead" 😂😂😂😂😂too funny!
I work at a pretty intense aluminum extrusion plant in Pennsylvania. A huge one. You would be surprised how many gray haired men play video games and it blew me away even more how many wrestling fans there are. Just talking in break room about a match in ways that make me wonder if they know it's a work!
That was fun to watch thank you posting this. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again growing up in this time period I was NEVER into wcw even when they were winning the war, I don’t know why I just couldn’t get into it so I love everything you post because I can’t now appreciate everything I MISSED.
Hell man, was not ready for the random G Gundam reference at around 17:00. Very nice.
Great find this was as always keep up the good work brother
Duuuuude. This was actually pretty cool. Thanks for sharing!
I LOST it @ 20:27 when you called that kid a shithead LMFAO. Great stuff as always
That guy dancing. lol
The Sunny mugshot had me dying 😂😂
00:05:16 Jos Verstappen when he wasn't racing in F1 back in 1994, William Regal hasn't changed much over the years. Great upload as always buddy 🙂
The term "Slam Bam" was also a old school term that's just short of "Slam Bam Thank you Ma'am".
Still a good term to this day.
Man you missed the "your an animal" que on 21:35
