For an immigrant this is priceless. Great to know there are "very american" people that have common sense and an amazing vision of what US should be. My respect to you Henry!!

    I've been a fan of Henry Rollins for years, mostly his spoken word. Every time I hear him speak from when he was a young angry adolescent to now where he's learned to channel that anger into something productive, he blows my mind. I know this is an old interview but regardless, he continues to impress with his knowledge and thoughtfulness. Incredible!

      +Johnny Unitas That's your argument, not mine,. You might have misunderstood what I meant. Welfare is not part of the OP's comment. If people want to self-harm and/or end their lives, that's entirely their own prerogative, and a basic human right. I am all for helping people, should they want to be helped, if not, there are ways out of their miserable existence, chemical and otherwise. Who are you to deny them that?

    I think he is a very intellectual intelligent and insightful human beign, down to earth American with all the care for his fellow Americans and all humanity his approach and insight is humble but aggressive from an equal level of no better or higher standard because of his celebrity status definitely a role model in some ways... No politician but I would like to think if Henry had the ability to play the role of president for our country for even a short period of time he would make improvements with his out looks and ideas that would surpass our previous presidents efforts by a great deal, We need more outspoken leaders like him carry the black flag Henry!

      If you still think that your president has any chance of actually leading your country, you probably weren't paying much attention to what really happened during the last, let's say, four or five decades when it comes to the distribution of wealth and executive power in the US. I am not saying that other countries are significantly better off, please keep that in mind, I am just saying that I believe whoever is or will be your president can do very little indeed to shape your countries future. Which at these days is quite calming, to be honest :)

    How can we get a quality education when it is so expensive . Some countries actually offer free education to their citizens

    • @ShaneKelley207
      @ShaneKelley207 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Some countries don't have public elementary grade school.. Learn a trade and get a job at a place that will pay for your schooling. Get a grant and go to a local community college. Go to a vocational school and learn something that's hands on. I got a grant to go a community college for precision machining and other core classes full time while working part time and it paid for my schooling, books and gave me $500 back in cash after everything was all paid for. Now my current job pays up to $3,550 a year for schooling which will completely pay for my future schooling. Schools are teaching kids to prepare them college and I went to school with a lot of people who are $50k+ in debt to live on a campus and will probably have that debt for the next 30 years and a lot of them don't even use their degrees. Also in these countries you're talking about it's never free. They pay 60%+ in taxes and pay for it that way. It's NEVER free.

    • @pinkmonkeybird2644
      @pinkmonkeybird2644 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Shane Kelley You are correct; learning a trade is an excellent way to get started. It’s too bad that for-profit colleges and unscrupulous student loan manipulations have got us to this point where college is mandatory for entry into white collar work but the price tag is ridiculous. It’s definitely worth the sacrifice for many people, but people really, really need to understand what they are paying for and how to best fund their plans. It’s also sad that most public schools do not adequately prepare students any longer. Critical thinking, analysis, logic, and writing are key to every single job today, but they aren’t taught very well any longer. Now that’s a burden on colleges; they now have to teach fundamental skills.

  • @MegaRaven100
    @MegaRaven100 8 ปีที่แล้ว +25

    A truly great and intelligent conversation. Henry Is a better man than he is a musician. And I got into him and even grew my now long hair from a skin cut after seeing Black Flag in the mid 80's. (You COULD be a long haired punk!) Never my favorite musician and even a nasty bully when young this guy went from being a long haired bullying punk into a short haired wise hippie on the highest level (he is a logical evolution without drugs).
    The irony is that it was the LSD mid 60's serious hippies (Garcia, Ken Kesey, Hendrix, Morrison, Timothy Leary, Lennon etc) who first thought as Henry and Pharrel do. But as Henry rightly points out for most drugs and alchohol are a tragedy of life suppression not a life enhancing event (my family is filled with alchoholics and many dead/crippled friends from drugs). I would argue with Henry on the details while agreeing with him on principle. He is a little too straight for my taste but not for his and he rightly does as he wants. That's the trick, he get's it. Respect and compassion for the lived experience of others is the love that Jesus spoke about.
    For me small quantities of weed/hash, (I mean 1-3 puffs on a little pipe the whole night not joints) when recording music and at music parties is a plus but then I don't smoke during the days or all the time. Doinfg so occasionally makes it exciting and adrenalized rather rather than confused, tired or just out of it (No fun at all). So Henry's point about different physiology is correct. I don't drink either and like Henry I just don't like it. Beer is the worst, tastes like piss! I did 10 LSD trips over a 3 year period until 1984. I was dead serious about it and had some great experiences but knew it would soon end and not be a dangerous form of a slow suicide life habit like cocaine, Crack, heroin meths, hard boozing etc. Only moderate and in self control use of weed and booze it seems can can be part of a healthy lifestyle.
    But for some like Henry or my friend Andreas nothing is best. Respect. But we can be sick of bad food, poor abusive relationships and addicted to social media etc etc. I am one of the few I know for whom LSD did more good than bad. Most people very wrongly do it 'for the experience' or as an exciting variation on getting wasted. NOT GOOD! The best thing was stopping. I did not need the medicine anymore, the doors of consciousness had been opened, I was cured. Henry has opened his eyes with pure will power. Will power saved me from abuse. Will power, intelligence and sensitivity; = life enhanced

    Great interview, great show, great host. Pharrell didn't play around with his questions, but pushed everything forward. Henry responded in kind. I didn't see much pandering (to either the show or to the potential audience) though I can understand why some people might think it was an issue. Nor is his age an issue. I'm 42, and I've listened to his loud mouth since Black Flag's "My War" album. He hasn't changed -- only mellowed out a bit. Keep up the good work, guys. I love the show.

    Some lifetime bought politician would shit himself if he looked over and saw mister Rollins at the other podium at a presidential debate.

    I think he should run for president. We need a leader who can inspire and implement these changes.

    Henry is awesome. he understands that what he does isn't about him it is about the people in this world who need something.
    I wish religion was as functional as this. No BS forced beliefs just pure reality.

    Totally agree. Finland are going in the right direction on this, the rest of the world should follow their lead. It's going from bad to worse here in the UK, becoming more and more focused on figures and league tables that are of no help to pupils or teachers. They only serve to promote a learn by rote culture, pupils memorising what they need to pass exams but learning very little.

    Maybe it is "Obsessive Anticipation Disorder" (The term, that came to my mind, just now). It isn´t a "thing" yet, but it maybe a term, that fits the behaviour ?!
