    There was many things that Spike and Pharrell said but the topic that stayed with me is where you need to do what you love not just make your life about making money. This was important to me because that is the whole idea of why I went to college after my divorce. I have my Master degree in something I LOVE. I am trying to show my two little kids that doing what you love is more important than money. I think I have done a good job because never have any of my kid's future jobs ever been because to make money. They want to do whatever idea they have because they are interested in it. My daughter wants to be an artist.

    Man, why do we not appreciate Spike Lee more? Just because he rightfully criticizes Quentin Tarentino for overusing the "n" word? Tarentino is a great filmmaker, don't get me wrong, but why is he so in love with the "n" word? Is he trying to piss people off?

    • @deesplayworldtv
      @deesplayworldtv 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Elijah Anderson I don't think he's trying to piss people off, he goes for the dramatics. In that world, the n word is probably used way more than in this movie and Major Warren may have not lived to do some of the things he done in The Hateful 8, same for DJango.

    This entire episode is amazing!... but:
    20:20 ... =') I needed to hear that part, it hit me.
    I'm a graduate designer specialized in Art & Design, and I LOVE doing what I do, and even years before graduating I started my own business as a designer. But, some family members told me I should get more diplomas (mainly for status and money), and currently i'm studying Arts & Economics. I like it, but it hinders my passion to keep on creating because this study does not include designing or making art, and rarely gives me time for my ambitions and do creative stuff, and i'm not happy at all. So, i'm only there for additional business knowledge, but I realized this week, that I have to continue focusing and working on my passion, because I love it, and a day not spent on doing art or design, is an empty day for me.
    So people: find what you love, do it with love and passion, that's success! The money will follow.. Don't be afraid to make that decision. Peace.

      +Alain Delgado nowadays, you mess up your money when you discuss politics if that's not your lane. not saying he is playing the escape game, but artists just stick to what they know for the most part. social media can't paint an ugly picture. all they need it one tweet or quote.

    Shamone, Pharrell!!! Do you not think your interviews are good enough on their own, w/o the nekkid chic? Why insert the note of 'em-bare-ass-ment' which is how your guests look, however briefly. We lady viewers are rolling our eyes w/ the cheeziness. From a film making perspective, it just injects an off note, into the ark of this story. What do you think it adds?

    Why is Spike Lee constantly tying to suck-up to Pharrell?

  • @okonh0wp
    @okonh0wp 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    At the very least, Spike Lee admits he says dumb things sometimes. It strikes me there's no good defense of wanting to want to whack the German juror with a Louisville bat. It's not racist to say that he didn't empathize with the lead character.
    Driving Miss Daisy wasn't the best film of 1989, but it was a competitive year: Sex Lies and Videotape, Crimes and Misdemeanors, Glory, Born on the Fourth of July. Ironically, only one of those 4 films were nominated, so they could have had a better slate, but I wish Spike had more respect for the competition.
    Still have a lot of respect for Spike

  • @savedfaves
    @savedfaves 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Couldn't disagree more that "no one around the world is watching driving Miss mother fucking driving Miss daisy". I watched it recently and I really like the film. I find it moving, really like the music, the quality of the production and cinematography, the two lead performances, and the legitimacy of their relationship. In fact, now that I think of it I know a few people who have watched it recently. I've watched Do the Right Thing once in my life. It's not a bad film, and I may just rewatch it soon, given this video. But personally don't like it when directors shit on other people's films, and especially when they are films people love. Suddenly no one's watching it because Spike says so? Yeah, right.
    Who's he to judge what's a better than his own film? He's biased by definition. By all means, allow him to judge two films made by others, but even then that comparison is pointless. Art is subjective, and you can compare two things forever, but it doesn't mean one is "better" than the other. What's the alternative? He wins best picture and now he loves the academy?

    The bifurcation of indie vs. studio film will continue on. There will be a shake out at the studio level and further consolidation will occur. What is positive and exciting is the disruption of costs due to tech in film production. Distribution is next to follow. His point regarding artist to artist interfacing is correct, but that won't fully change until known artist start supporting up and coming artists, however the motivations must be there. The industry needs more artist to audience interface tech as well, crowdfunding is only phase one.

    I totally feel so connected with their minds but the one thing I have to ask is when you're in the moment or your most vulnerable self in my case expressing through composing songs, how do you do that when amongst other people? That is the reason why my collaborations fail... I am always too shy execute my actions in front of others but I can totally practice that when i am all alone. How do you practice that skill of being vulnerable in front of others?
