- Get ready for Christmas! Grow your woodworking business with "smalls"! Ready for the latest trends??? Let's break down some more builds!
Often, smaller items are looked over by new builders looking to make a name for themselves because they are looking for "that one build" that they can sell for a ton of money. They aren't considering the cost of the build and the time spent making it. Ultimately any business comes down to profit margins. I'll give you a few examples of how selling items that anyone can afford can generate crazy sales with minimal cost of goods sold!
Sometimes we overthink things when the most profitable items we are looking past. Let's change that.

62 years old. I start carpenters' school today A brand new chapter in my life thanks for the lessons.
Never stop doing this series Matt. Many of us depend on this series for our livelihood. Very much appreciated ❤
Do you sell any projects? If so where do you sell them?? Just getting into this hobby and curious best places to get traffic
@@thezipper100 not sure that I am doing the best practice for selling but I rely on Facebook Marketplace, Offer Up and our church (word of mouth). I’m sure if I went into Etsy I’d do better but the shipping thing confuses me and seems daunting. I should probably look into that though.
@thezipper100 i try Facebook marketplace, and local selling places too me ..... but. I cannot go to high in the prices
did you mean Never?
@@dojoparsnip9905 yes I did. I’m not the sharpest drill bit in the set.
Matthew, yours is my favorite woodworking channel. You’re always coming up with new ideas that are affordable for a low budget builder. Thank you sir and keep it coming.
Anyone else find Matthew very inspiring? Often I find myself heading out to my pretend workshop to pretend I have any skill after watching his videos haha. Thank you for another group of great ideas!
Ha the boot storage thing I’ve had on my wall for years I just put the rods at 45 angles and mounted it on my wall. Keeps the dogs from messing with my boots.
Matthew speaking of those sweet lil Christmas trees you made you could also offer to drill some holes to push in some mini lights attached to a battery pack this would have a lighted tree… really sharp looking… can do this with a snowman shape as well and mark out a design for them to paint.
Don't sell your mistakes, give them to family😆
The last one is a touch of genius... it opens the door to all types of items. Myself, I like your Christmas trees... but I'm thinking of making them desktop size for office desks 🙂
For that boot storage I'd put 2 rings on the end to hold umbrellas.
That dresser in the back🤯🫢
👍 I've found 180 used fence pickets for 50.00. Most are in good shape. A few are curled up,I can still use them for something. I'm happy for all the stuff I can make. Thanks for sharing this with us.👍💛🙏
Thanks for your videos I made a lot of money for my family because your videos keep them coming 😊
What’s the most popular items you find sell best?
Them planter boxes paid for my family vacation this year! Hahaha
I made like 70 sets of the planner boxes
@@CraftedbyRay Haha Same!
Where do you sell your stuff?
Matthew Peech: Woodworking and Life Coach!!
GREAT ideas! Loved the rustic Christmas tree so much that I immediately ran out to Home Depot, picked up a few fence boards and got to building. Did notice a slight discrepancy on the measurements that I wanted to share. The bottom left branch should measure 10.25" with a corresponding counterpart of 7.75". From there you deduct 1/2" as you move your way up on each side.
Thanks for this. I was just coming to post the same thing.
I finally got the time to build this and have been sitting in my shop for the last 2 hour trying to figure out where i went wrong. lol Even watched the video several times thinking I misunderstood what was said. Thanks for confirming this. Now I feel better. lol
On the boot rack:
I live in Texas, which is cowboy boot and work boot central. The ones I used to make that did well seemed to sell better with rectangular uprights. I used a 2x4 that was ripped into roughly 1 1/2 x 2 1/4 strips, that I rounded the edges over with a 1/4 round over or camfer bit. The bigger support seems to hold the boots better, and gave the appearance of better stability and sturdiness.
Also it's easier to assemble with 2 screws and glue per upright.
Good suggestion!
I was thinking along similar lines, but then I live in Texas as well so maybe it's just a Texas thing. 😊
I made these "Retro Freestanding Bookshelves" a few years ago for storing shoes. Just make them "deep enough" so that shoes fit unto them....
He is so inspiring ❤
Thank you!
Matt your so awesome brother ! Love how much you care
Whenever I have ‘Makers Block’ I just tune to your channel. I love making smalls and you talk us through it.
Cannot thank you enough!
I’ve been eyeing the book shelf for a while.
If you build that book shelf from the top down. It’ll be easier to access the screw points.
I'm a new viewer from Wisconsin. Finally got my first miter saw. Love the Christmas tree. Looking forward to trying it. (Even though Christmas is over.)
Bro I love Carhartt this guy is all ways wearing Carhartt ❤
If you carved or burnt the word "Boots" on the 2x10 near the front of that boot rack, I bet it would sell way better. Also if you have a lathe, carve some grooves in the dowels, and add some kind of small knobs on the ends of them. You could do a vintage look like that rhinestone vintage cowgirl style or a vintage cowboy look.
This is my favorite series you do ❤
Thanks! I think it’s a favorite for a lot of people. Glad to do it.
Thank you ,I just built my first cedar Pickett Christmas tree
Thank you. I appreciate you taking the time to do these videos. I also appreciate the encouragement. Everyone needs someone that believes in them.
You are so welcome
Matthew,
I appreciate you very much! You continue to demonstrate that your channel is about wood working and making things. You are an excellent teacher and inspire others to grow. Tool reviews are awesome, and i feel you mix everything just right with the content. Just a occasional build is what people are looking for. Thanks for what you do!!!
I appreciate that!
Ditto again!!!
You are an awesome teacher
I had a excuse but thanks to you not any more!! 👌👌
I ordered plans off Etsy, thanks for all you do!
My daughter wants to start learning woodworking. I've been doing it for about 15yrs. I'm a horrible teacher, so thank you for taking time to share your knowledge and skills.
great tips hello from Poland
Love all these ideas Mr. Peech
Thank you!
Thank you Mathew
Thanks, Matthew!
Legend! Bloody good channel mate! Keep it up!
😂we need a boot dryer, for sure!
😬
@@MatthewPeechWoodworkingjust add a fan! I'll figure it out, Matthew! Thanks!
aarrgghh! So many angle numbers! lol. I have a love/hate relationship with trees and angles. Gunna try this though.
I just watch these to see if there is something i wanna make for myself or family. Just getting into woodwork again.
Welcome back!
@@MatthewPeechWoodworking thanks I just found your channel a few weeks ago. Been loving the things to sell aspects. Much appreciated.
Thanks for your videos I made a lot of money for my family because your videos keep them coming
Thank you for your time. You are appreciated!
Thanks for the much needed pep talk.
Of course!
Just to let you know I’ve been doing the mailbox with key holders for a while now using horseshoe nails bent over for the keys and they look terrific
On the book shelf the back could be two pieces with a space between. That would look good too if you were using solid wood and staining it.
I love your message! You are always uplifting and encouraging! Thank you!
Salute you man, for plain and direct talking; excellent logic; clear experience.
Thanks!
Thank you!!
Thank you for another great video! I am just getting started and I love the creativity, simplicity, and positivity that you share with all of us.
Thank you!
Hi i enjoy watching some of your favorite way to make things easier to make money fast // i have small garage and i am busy making things all time other people i glad have fun
Hangers on tree for and sign. Our Christmas wish list, or ideas
Thank you for teaching and showing your smalls!!! Keep them coming!!!
Love you and your vids. Thanks for being so positive and encouraging!
These look great
I've been super busy and haven't been on your channel for a while. I needed to watch a quick tutorial and your video was on the top of my feed, so, i clicked on it. Dude, you're almost to 500k subscribers!!! That's so awesome! I knew you were going to become insanely popular. Now, give me some pointers because I'm about to start my owm channel but keep putting it off because I'm terrified, lol. Anyway, I'm so happy for you. Great job!!!
Gotta say I did the spinning Christmas trees last year and sold a bunch. In the middle of them now as I have 3 times the orders. I bought your plans to support you and the channel as well. Next will be the planter boxes. Thanks and keep doing what you do sir.
Thank you. Keep up the good work!
Love all the ideas, and with that last one you can get a lot of mileage from the material as well. By using the interior cut outs from the edge cut you can make a whole other "chopping board" albeit at a smaller size, maybe market it as a cheese chopping board! lol Maybe nesting chopping boards! Really appreciate all the ideas you give us to try out!
Thank you for all your time and effort.
Matt, I had my second craft show yesterday where I sold some Halloween smalls we've been discussing on Discord. It was pouring rain, but I made over $200! I couldn't believe it! It was enough money that I could go buy more wood to start making some of your snowflakes for a Christmas show I have in three weeks. If *I* can do it, ANYONE can do it!
Matt I enjoy all your work and share with all my friends. Thx!
Thanks for the videos, and the breakdowns!!!! Love the smalls projects
As always, this is another great video and ideas for smalls. I love your motivational talk as well. Please keep up the excellent work Matt.
LOVE your videos!! Inspiring us to make great things happen!! Keep them coming please!! 💜
Thank you! Will do!
I love watching you Matthew. You always share amazing products and techniques. Plus add the most important things...like "you can do this"!
Thanks for another great video! Missed you last week! Keep up the awesome work!! Blessings!!!
Thank you! Will do!
Such great ideas, always. Thanks
Keep up the fabulous work Peach!
This series is awesome. Keep up the great work!
Wow. Some good smalls tips. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you, Matthew.
I had to stop the video to write down the idea for the boot rack. It's such a simple design, and with my twist, it should sell quickly.
You and your content are inspiring and educational. I really like the mix of woodworking and tools.
Great content, very much appreciated.
I always enjoy these videos, they are inspiring.
Thank you for the ideas. I’m a beginner and I have the confidence in myself that I can do these
Another great video, thanks for making them.
Love your videos, keep up the hard work!
Your last statement is the most important great stuff
Thanks for a great video.
Excellent video!! As always!! Now I need to get into the shop!!
Let’s do it!
Im pretty sure you need a $5000 table saw for most wood projects. At least if you watch most utubers. I went the Rex Krueger, cheap hand tools way. Does it take longer, yes, but its more theraputic, and interesting. I learned a lot about how our ancestors made useful, long lasting things. My daughter will love the bookshelves.
Great knowledge much appreciated awesome mind!
Just an FYI for the trees, they actually left off the bottom branches and shortened up the trunk and the stand I believe. 😊
I think the PB version just has a bit more space between each piece of wood.
Love your video’s. Thx
Another great video. Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it
Cool stuff. Thanks for the plans.
You bet! Thank you!!
Thanks for your videos they are very well made and full of good information... I love them...
Thanks for watching!
Once again, awesome !
Thanks!
In the fence picket tree would it look better to have the herringbone pattern alternating? Meaning I would alternate the short board on each level left, right, left, right.
YES! And, in theory, there's only one length instead of half being shorter due to the overlap.
Made 6 of the trees this evening. Love your videos. Keep them coming. Thanks
Jeff, how did you join/assemble the branches? Matthew mentioned brad nails and glue, but I had trouble making the butt joints with my brad nailer because of the angles. I ended up driving the nails from front to back (through the branches) into the support stake, but even then there is very limited space. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
You had some good ones today!!
👍👍👍.Thanks
I have found a measuring boo boo on the trees first long limb it seems to me it should be 10 1/4 not 10 3/4 if each limb is 1/2 inch shorter you said second limb is 9 3/4 that would make first limb 10 1/4 I just believe you mis spoke when giving measurements on first limb . My first limb was a half inch to long at 10 3/4after i adjusted the length it worked perfectly thanks for all the great projects love your channel and was just trying to help others who may run into the same problem . Thanks again for the great projects one day I will tackle a huge project.
So apparently links are prohibited, so here's take #2.
Last weekend my wife went to a craft event, where the gimmick is that you travel around to the Crafter's homes.
One had a similar tree to the rustic pine tree made from pallet slats. These were full size trees with a more typical, triangular tree shape, although they could easily be adapted to fence pickets.
The slat lengths are just multiples of the slat width (3.5" up to 28"), so you could make smaller trees with 1x2 and 1x3, instead of 1x4. You could also reduce the bottom course.
If you have a cheap or free source of pallets, so much the better, but fence pickets still wouldn't be that expensive.
They were selling for $50 for a tree near 7' tall to the top of the star, so I suspect the crafter has free pallets, but I'm sure you could get a lot more for one.
Good job thx for sharing enjoyed it The model you made of the bookshelf reminds me of a necklace holder or a Charlie Brown Christmas tree Keep building
Hey matt could you do a video of a bunch of different Christmas smalls its almost time were everyone wants to buy decor for inside and outside and i got alot of wood ready to go and i need to raise money for 8 years i been helping my town by running on donations to make sure no children go without on xmas morning it would mean alot plus your my favorite TH-camr for woodworking❤
I have some getting ready to roll out.
@@MatthewPeechWoodworking awesome thank you 😊
What can you do with treated fence pickets? Got a bunch of scrap cuts.
A free mod that might make the tree look better would be to make a true herringbone design. Just flip the long board - long on left, next long on right, next long on left, etc.... So it's no extra cost, and would then be more symmetrical. Not complaining, just a mod. Also the "chopping block" screams for a pattern and router with pattern bit to crank them out one after the other. Thanks for another great video!
I want to say thanks for all the videos that provide inspiration for me. The last project I bought plans for was the snowflakes, and I've built the transforming table from your plans. So, please keep up with this content. Thank you again! I made something similar to the chopping board. Wood Worker's Guild of America has a pumpkin tray video that is constructed the same way. I think the WWGOA video has been out for about 2 years. They just put out a Christmas tray video this month.
Nice!
I love watching this series! And although I think I could sell most of the items you present in every video I live in a strictly military community that is well…frugal would be puting it mildly.
For instance! items like that modern bookshelf I be lucky to get $30 for it.
I tried making and selling the smalls when you first started the series. Selling the items at our local farmers market. By the end of the season May-Sept (Memorial Day - Labor Day) I realized a profit of only $250.
I’m not saying your smalls won’t sell…just that they don’t sell in my area for anywhere near where I could make this even a part time gig.
For me…I’m still looking for those 1 or 2 items that I can sell a lot of (and not just in the summer months).
All that said Matthew…please keep these videos coming because one day you’re gonna stumble upon the items I’m looking for!
Enjoy your videos..just starting out with wood crafts and you have totally inspired me..I seen a video of something I would love to make but just not sure how to do it..I am sending a pic..hopefully I can?
