Greetings. I just wanted to share a little story. I'm a recovering drug addict from South Africa Mpumalanga. I have been clean for about three years after 12 years heavy heroin, weed & rock(some form of cocaine) addiction. Last year September I was given an opportunity by an NPO and a mine company sponsorship to go study carpentry in the East Rand. I did construction carpentry but I felt I had learnt so little. Fast forward to five months later I've been back home. I've been pretty much depressed considering I have no capital for the expensive power tools and honestly watching all the fancy workshops didn't really help much. I recently came across your channel and I just wanted to thank you for all the guidance. I look forward to starting my workshop from ground up. I am definitely subscribing and watching all your videos for inspiration. Thank you

After a really rough couple days mentally at the end of this dreaded Canadian winter, I needed that "preaching". Being a veteran struggling with PTSD, finding positivity in this world today is getting very difficult. I've been following your channel for well over a year. I'm constantly feeling defeated with even just the basics of woodworking, but the way you present your videos, constantly telling your viewers how easy alot of these projects are, and preaching that YOU believe in US, is keeping me from quitting.
In closing, I just want to say THANK YOU for being a positive light in this negative headspace I live in. Please keep the stories, and motivation coming!! God Bless you and yours Sir!
    Signed,
An appreciative Canadian Armed Forces Veteran

Hi there...I really like all of Mathew' s content and encouragement. May I suggest to you that you check out Rob Cosman on TH-cam.
He is an amazing woodworker but more than that he's got the heart of a lion! He runs a program for Vets. He and other vets started this a few years ago. It's called the PHP or Purple Heart Project. It is specifically for teaching hand tool woodworking to vets who have suffered combat issues, be they physical or mental.
Please take a look at what the Cosman team offers. I think you will be pleased. By the way...he is in New Brunswick, Canada!! And he loves hockey!!😊

As the person who also changes the paper towel rolls, I made these adjustments. I added a slat on the bottom of the legs to lift the table another 1/2" to better fill all but the mega size rolls. For the roll bar, 1 drilled a 3/8" hole 3/4" from the end. I then created a slot with my band saw. This makes it easier to change the roll without fiddling around to fit the hole. Also, after loosening both nut, the roll can be changed with the removal of only one nut. Thank you for your videos.

I also started the carnivore diet, lost 17 pounds and been reading a Bible verse every day. Life may be harder for everyone recently, but it can still be good. Love the paper towel holder, but I find myself visualizing the first person to pull a paper towel off ripping it just right that it doesn't pull the next piece through. By the third time that happens it's just going to be flipped over and won't look like a picnic table anymore. I feel like it might work better if there were just single slats on the edges rather than a whole tabletop, but I'd visualize it better if I actually made one. I should do that. Which is the whole point of this channel, so keep it up!

The PIPS (not dots) on opposite sides add up to 7. The 1 is opposite the 6, 2 vs 5, 3 vs 4.

    @95dodgev10 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

I would possibly modify the paper towel holder. Use a wood dowel like 3/4 so just cut to length to fit between the legs supports. Then drill and glue in some of those nut inserts (not sure if there's a technical name for them. Then drill some clearance holes in the table leg supports and use a wingnut style bolt that passes through the leg support into the towel. That way changing the roll doesn't require any tools. But then again you'd have the wingnut ends sticking out the side so may not be as clean looking.

Thank you!! I'm living with pancreatic cancer and I have been keeping a positive attitude ( most of the time). I have gone through a major surgery and I am still doing chemotherapy every other week. I was diagnosed over 4 years ago. I am a beginner in woodworking. Sometimes it is hard to get out in my garage shop. My skill level is pretty low. But I have made some nice cutting boards and a few other things. I watch your channel and it is one of the best ones out there Thank you again Matthew.

For the dice, a piece of round steel stock could be heated with a torch, and spinning in a drill press would make the familiar indentation. It would take a bit of practice , but with a simple fence it would make easy accurate dots!

Funny thing. I have made the table for the condiments bases on your squirrel table. I never thought of a paper towel holder in the table. Great idea and it is coming up to the summer picnic time. Thank you.

Matthew, I want to let you know that I really appreciate your shares. I'm getting nearer to retirement and want to work in my shop and make things that people like and can use. Not only do you create some really cool projects, but you're very positive in your presentation. Good man! Thanks very much!

Never stop preaching brother. It's refreshing and inspiring to hear someone's story of overcoming adversity. My 1 year old son was born missing his left hand and forearm so Its been in the back of my mind thinking about how I could possibly teach him woodworking in the future. That being said, the story you shared has shined a proverbial flashlight down a dark hallway for me. Keep up the good work!

I found your channel a while back when looking for a hidden gun rack and your coat rack came up. Been a fan and subscriber since then. I stay because of your genuine honesty, skills, projects and because as you said your preachy. I can't tell you how many projects I have done with your channel playing in the background. Glad your on the internet and not VHS as I would have worn out the replay button by now. Even my wife started watching you and she doesn't even do woodworking she just likes your easy flow and basically after watching she let's me know what my new project will be. Don't change anything. Thank you

Mathew, I just want to say you're an awesome guy for sharing all these builds! I hope you don't mind , I'm stealing the paper towel dispenser idea. I have a few ideas for it. Im making it a bit larger for big rolls and putting the ketchup and mustard bottles in the seats on one side and BBQ sauce bottles on the other, with salt, pepper and a toothpick holder on top.
I dont have much of a shop, but you have really inspired me to get back to my passion in woodworking! Thank you, Mathew!
Please keep the ideas coming! Maybe I'll post some projects in the future. Thanks again!
Edit: well it took almost two cedar pickets to do it but I think it looks good and will sell. I heard you say you have a discord now? I think I'll join and send a pic of the build. Send me the link please!

Matthew, I like this this story about Paul. It made me think back to when I had a sawmill and sold walnut and cherry to woodworkers. I had a client that came to my place with his girl friend. She drove because he was blind. The next time he needed lumber I told him I would deliver it. When I got there he was hanging drywall in a stair well. I ask him how he could measure to know what to cut. He had a talking tape measure. He showed me some of the things he had built with the previous lumber he purchased. His builds were quite impressive.

You could also take a spring-loaded toilet paper holder separate the two pieces put a dowel rod between them and make a spring-loaded holder for the paper towel roll that you made so that way it would be easier to get in and out to replace the roll

The dots on dice and dominoes are called 'pips', a word that originally meant speck, but also meant something small and easily countable. This word also refers to the rank insignia on the collars of Star Trek: TNG uniforms. Make it so, Mr Peech!

Really like the condiment table mainly because I already have one! My parents had it since I was a kid, so 40ish years. Love the paper towel table. That is pure Genius! A person could make both of them a little bigger to add holes for Mayo, Hot Sauce, Salad Dressings etc or for the extra large paper towel rolls. Great video!

I really like the mini picnic tables. I’m starting to make them myself and the only problem I’ve ran into is that the paper towel holder doesn’t fit a standard size roll fresh outta the wrapper (at least the costco ones) you would need to use a roll that’s about 25% gone already. I have started to make plans for a bigger table that would fit a full roll but I also like the two tables being basically the same size. Still pondering this, but otherwise I love the idea.

Matthew I'd love to send you an autographed copy of our book 'If This Old Tree Could Talk To Me!' I'm sure you'd enjoy it.
I absolutely LOVE AND THOROUGHLY ENJOY your videos!!
If there is a USPS address, PO Box whatever, if you could PM Jancy Morgan, I'll get it sent.
THANK YOU SO MUCH for all your awesome information!!!
I grew up hanging out with my folks who rebuilt houses leveled by tornadoes, previous tenants, etc, as it was Dad's hobby and he sold a few but kept several for rentals.
After over six decades of rebuilding things, your tutorials have taught this old dog new tricks!! And before I forget - I wanted to suggest you could add a slot in the bench of your paper towel holder for hand sanitizer.
    Those little tables are genius!!
I've become disabled this past year and your videos really lift my spirits - I watch/listen while illustrating books, it's win-win - keep up the good work!!!!!
