I was a little girl when this song came out. He also had another big hut, "Before the n ext teardrop falls ". I was jamming as a little girl every time I heard this song. I still jam to it now.
I grew up on 70s country thanks to my mom. Great era for country and Freddie had a string of hits. "Before The Next Teardrop Falls" and "If You Lose Me You'll Lose A Good Thing" were big for him too. These songs bring back memories.
This song reminds me of my fav aunt. She loved Freddie's songs and had his tape in her new Monte Carlo she bought in the early 70's. I remember her bringing the new car home and this song was blaring out the stereo. RIP Aunt Catherine.
My parents danced and listened to this song over and over again when it came out. Makes me smile. I knew you would love it. Check out more of his music please. Great reaction.
Back in the 70's (when I was a kid) my parents would have parties on the weekend, drinking and dancing from friday night until saturday afternoon. This song got played at every single one of those parties. Sure brings back memories of me and my cousins playing upstairs, or watching scary movies while the parents partied in the basement. Great memories.
I have played with a group (family band) doing tejano and conjunto styles for over 25 years. This song ALWAYS works. Black, brown, white every crowd every show loves this song.
This takes me back to the summers I spent with my aunt. That radio played Tammy Wynette, George Jones, Kenny Rogers & Dolly Parton, Oak Ridge Boys, Statler Brothers, Conway Twitty, Texas Playboys ... and this. ❤
Holy Crap!!! U reacted to Freddy Fender. WOW!!! Freddy was a chart-topper on his own. In his later years, he joined with musical legends Augie Meyers, Doug Sahm and world-renown accordionist Leonardo "Flaco" Jimenez to form the Texas Tornadoes. They churned out many regional Tex-Mex albums but toured the world riding the continued fame from that collaboration.
Oh Mr. Sir!! The soundtrack of my childhood! Imagine being 4 years old, running in and out the house and this song playing on the console radio in the background and Mama telling you to shut that door and keep the flies out lol! Another pearl of a song from back then is Cal Smith - "Country Bumpkin". It is the epitome of a real country song.
Used to see Freddy in Corpus Christi as he got his stuff back together. You gotta check the Texas Tornados Freddy Augie Meyers Doug Solm and Flaco Jimenez. Texas music royalty
Lots of people like music they're "not supposed to." I remember seeing Scott Ian of Anthrax on "I Love The 70s" saying that as a kid, he was terrified that his fellow metalheads might learn that "Fernando" by ABBA "made the hair stand up on my arms."
I grew up in Huntsville, Texas, home of the Texas Prison Rodeos. Stars were brought in for entertainment. I got to see Freddie Fender in person at this rodeo! It’s also a great two stepping song to dance to!
Man.. I ain't heard anyone say finger or lid in almost 50 years ! Except me... good old days when there was TWO kinds... lol edit: I still have an unopened 6 ok of Lone Star I've had for decades. Haven't been to Texas in quite a while.
He is life could be a lesson in redemption and seeking a better life. Jail, drugs alcohol. But look, he became a successful country music star! I love his voice and songs. Great reaction!
Freddy has a string of hits in the mid 70's. Very talented singer song writer. Was a good friend of Doug Sahm, and Auggie Meyer from the Texas Tornadoes, a great band from a group of good 'ol Texas boys. These guys had some amazing music. Check them out.
Please react to Freddy Fender: -Since I Met You Baby -Before the Next Teardrop Falls -Crying Time R.B. Greaves: Take a Letter Maria Jay & the Americans: Come a Little Bit Closer -Thanks!!!
I understand the “why don’t you just break it off” thing, it makes total sense when you’re not in love, but when you are (and you’ve been there), it’s a different concept, logic gets warped.
I am alone, but not lonely. Still, songs like this can make you feel that way, whether you're in a relationship or not. That's the craft of a good song. Think about that.
Joys of growing up in New Zealand my parents listened to all types of music from opera to rock soul reggae heavy metal country and early rap love those days hardout
A great mexican singer who was absolutely HUGE in 1975. The song was on TV...on the grocery store speakers....in elevators...all over the radio...everywhere man!
Jamel thank you so very much for your reaction to Freddy Fender (Baldemar Garza Huerta.) Maybe you can follow it up with "Before the Next Teardrop Falls". My siblings and I grew up listening to his albums. Freddy was known as a Tejano, Country and Rock musician. He earned multiple Grammy nominations and won in 1990, 1998, 1999 and 2002 for Best Mexican American Album sometimes nominated on his own and other bands he performed with such as The Texas Tornadoes. He does have a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. However, he so much wanted to be inducted as the First Mexican American into The Country Music Hall of Fame. In his hometown of San Benito, Texas they dedicated a water tower with his name and image. Freddy did act on occasion, he was in Robert Redford’s “The Milagro Beanfield War.” (some of my family members were extras) ” He was also on an episode of “The Dukes of Hazard.” My father asked me to thank you for the reaction. Thank you as always!
I grew up on his music. My Mom & Pop loved his musical talent. Later in life I would run into him time to time at the local grocery store in my home town. Sweetest Man ever.
I had the pleasure of meeting Freddy Fender on several occasions. Sweet man...and one of the few to fortunate cross-over to mainstream radio. Truly missed.
Freddy was one of my Dad's favorite artists. My Dad has been gone for 34 years. As for your comments about breaking it off with someone before you go do your thing, I have always used the saying, "You are where you want to be, and if you're not with me, then don't waste my time". People cheat because they're greedy. Thanks for the nostalgia Jamel! 💙
Freddie lived in my hometown & I believe his Freddie Records recording studio is still here. He had such a unique voice. I remember my dad listening to this song on our big console record player when I was little. Good memories!
He was born Baldemar Huerta in Corpus Christi Tx but back in the 50’s you weren’t successful with a Hispanic name so he became Freddy Fender. Before The Next Teardrop Falls Vaya Con Dios are other songs by him. Tim McGraw is a Freddy Fender fan he has a video with mariachi singing Who Were You Thinking Of it’s a cool video. The Texas Tornadoes have some fun songs and videos to see.
From the minute he starts to sing I am hooked. I remember hearing when The last tear drop falls on a pub jukebox and I was blown away. Kept going back to the pub to play it. A friend of mine knew it and would sing it to me after a few drinks. Happy days.
I was a tobacco farmer for 30 years. On one cold and rainy day we were housing tobacco inside a barn. Then across the barn lot and out of a open window of a nearby house came this song. The entire crew inside the barn began to sing along. This song made a hard day, one to remember. Thanks Freddy.
Oh wow, this reminds me of my parents country phase and the 8 track of this album playing in our station wagon for road trips. Thanks for the memories!
A legend. in 1959 he had to do 5 years in Angola for 2 joints. But he overcome a lot to make it big in the long run. Might want to check out Doug Sahm and Augie Meyers or the texas Travelin Willbury style super group they all had later, Texas Tornados.
May He rest in peace!! His true name was Baldemar Garza Huerta and was raised in San Benito Texas. There is a water tower on the expressway that runs thru The town and you will see his face and name on it.
This was my Great Grandfather Rutene's favourite song because of when his wife my Great Grandmother passed away. But their back together in those big white clouds in the beautiful blue skies. Now those blues he had has been passed down to me the 2nd Grandson of his Son. And I wear those blues with honour and heartache.
My Aunt loved Freddy, so I grew up hearing him almost daily. Makes me smile to think of her dancing around her living room with her. I miss her, but listening to Freddy and a few other artists bring back the wonderful memories.
Freddie was one of the few performers I met in person. He was playing a gig at a NCO club on Hickam Air Force Base in Hi back in the 70's. Not a lot of people in the club that night so he would sit at the table with me and my buddies between sets. Nice man and great singer
I was about to make my first recommendations ever for a song but some one beat me to! Freddy Fender before the last tear drop falls you gotta hear it if you enjoyed this one! Last tear drop falls was my Granny’s all time favorite song all time favorite! Her favorite artist ever was Conway Twitty and even he couldn’t touch last tear drop falls! Freddy Fender I was introduced to his music by my grandmother! We lost her more than a few years back now! Every time I hear last tear drop falls I think of her and the smile she got as soon as the first note played!
Wow, I'm from San Antonio, Texas. This blows me away to see a reaction vid for this song, not just a hit from the 70's, but for an iconic South Texas artist. Good on you for your research!
I highly, highly recommend you check out and react to Freddy Fender performing *this song live* with the Tex-Mex Supergroup he was a part of called Texas Tornados with accordionist Flaco Jimenez and the 2 members Augie Meyers & Doug Sahm of the 1960s band Sir Douglas Quintet. Man that’s awesome his from where I live in South Texas. Hispanic people would put his music on bbq, dance and drink till early next morning. A true Tejano legend. Thanks for reacting to him.

Those were the days! (I had a Monte Carlo too!) Glad you have these memories of your auntie and those days. 🙂
Freddie Fender has a great library. You need to do a deep dive into his music. I grew up on his music.
This was my parents' music that I grew up on through them.
So did I. Talk about bringing up memories! Wow!!!
Agreed...
My parents danced and listened to this song over and over again when it came out. Makes me smile. I knew you would love it. Check out more of his music please. Great reaction.

Isn't anything worse than leaving without saying goodbye. That's the ultimate slap in the face too me. Freddys the bomb!
Longer version had him singing verses in Spanish.
I think that was the other song "when the last teardrop falls". Never heard him do Spanish with this one but then again I don't know everything.
My mom loved Freddy Fender. Hearing this song brings back some great memories and makes me smile. Thanks, man. I miss you, Mom ❤
We used to go see him in San Antonio with Willie Nelson and Joe Ely. 12 pack a Lone Star and a five finger lid. Those were the days.
