He owns every song he sings. Yes. And a couple of us have requested Secret Love - that's my favorite Freddy song, it's so intense. But can you believe it was a DORIS DAY song, but now, as you say, Freddy owns it!!.
Before the next tear drop falls is a good one by him. When I started dating my husband 11 years ago not many people in my family liked him but my dad played this song for me and told me to follow my heart ❤️
Just an amazing voice. One of the things I loved about this song was that it was old-fashioned-sounding even when it came out. It sounded like that nexus between early rock ‘n’ roll, R&B, and country that was happening in Texas in the 50s.
I grew up listening to this. My grandmother loved Freddy Fender. What a wonderful flashback I hadn’t heard his music in so long. Now I’m downloading it. Thanks.
Thank you, Thank you! We love his voice and music. He had kidney dialysis at the same place as my step dad; he said he was a very kind and funny person, entertaining the patients while on dialysis!💖
Glad you are doing some more Freddy Fender. He was an American Tejano, country & rock & roll musician, known for his work as a solo artist and in the groups "Los Super Seven" & the "Texas Tornados". He was best known for his 1975 hits "Before The Next Teardrop Falls" & a remake of "Wasted Days & Wasted Nights". But he had some other great songs such as "Secret Love", "You'll Lose A Good Thing", "Since I Met You Baby", "Vaya Con Dios", "Livin' It Down" &"The Rains Came".
Love Freddy Fender songs..2 of my favorites are LA Paloma Blanca and Cielito Lindo ( even though I don't understand the words, it just sounds beautiful)
Never was a big country and western lover, but my older sister was and Freddy Fender was one of the few that I loved hearing, him and Glenn Campbell. 🥰
Before the Next Tear Drop Falls is a phenomenal Freddy Fender song. Check it out y'all will appreciate it. Y'all Are Awesome keep doing what y'all doing.
In 1968 my mom met Freddie and me and my sister got his autograph I was only 4 at the time but he was part of the family. I don't think a day went by without hearing his albums.
I grew up with that song in the 70's. But u gotta hear Freddy before when he was with the Texas Tornadoes! That baby rocks!!! I love it!! Their concert in Austin Texas LIVE.👍😉❤🙏
Freddy Fender first recorded Wasted Days and Wasted Nights in 1959, then recorded it again in 1975 when it really hit big. Sometime in the mid 60's his band was named, Freddy Fender and the Hub Caps. Love it!!
This reminds me of being a child and being at the local burger joint with my parents. They loved playing this song on the jukebox. I loved playing the old pinball machine. All of us loving the greasy burgers and fries with a big frosty glass of Pepsi.
Growing up in a Mexican family his music was always played by my aunties. Especially my aunt Georgia. May she RIP. He did have some good songs and could be heard in most bars and a lot of local bands covered his songs
I remember as a young teenager, listening to my mother’s Freddy Fender cartridge tape over and over. Then back in the mid 90’s being heartbroken to learn of his one night show in town at the last hour. I loaded up my son to locate the venue which I never found. I wanted him to enjoy a fond memory. Needless to say, I never got the chance to see him while he lived but he lives on in my heart and thankfully in my son’s selection of musical taste. His tone of voice exceptional.
I had to chuckle when I saw that you were doing Freddie Fender. I am now in my 60s. When I was a kid, and we listened to Freddie Fender on the radio, we would jokingly call him Freddie "Bumper". haha I really love his voice and his songs. Thank you for the flashback.
I love you both...I know all the songs ya'll put up and I love that ya'll experience all kinds of music...if music could be all day concert maybe...just maybe more people would get along...love yas. Keep on....
Freddy and his contemporaries of that era were just so good. This live performance is excellent, and there are some little differences from the record - just enough for you to know he's singing live. And that's the thing - the live performance being even BETTER than the record - just try to imagine that.now. Interesting that you mentioned Tell It Like It Is and Aaron Neville. Freddy played for a long time at Papa Joe's on Bourbon Street.and I got the impression he and Aaron were friends during that time. Freddy does Tell It Like It Is (I think the album is Swamp Gold) and mentions Aaron. Loved when he said Tell It Like It Is Little Brother (hisi usual way of calling for a solo) but don't make it cry too hard. That was so cool.
A must check out Texas Tornados an all star Tex Mex band with Freddie and others(including Doug Sahm and Augie Meyers formed the The Sir Douglas Quintet)a deep rabbit hole if you wish to follow.
GOTCHA! First note Shawn, the expression on you’re face was absolutely hilarious! I don’t think you took a breath for a good 30 seconds!! Love me some Freddy Fender. He did so many songs that were fantastic, and some would tear you’re heart out. I was in my mid to late teens teens when this and the rest of his Fantastic songs came out.
His real Name is: Baldemar Garza Huerta. His life is fabulous to read about. Served in the Marine Corps, In 2001 was reported to be dead by Billboard, Served time in the Joint back when Marijuana was the hysteria of crimes..lol. Go read about him.!
When I was a little kid I thought he used to do Doritos advertisements as well as sing. Years later I discovered the actor on the ads was Avery Schreiber, LOL! Mom had a whole album of Freddy Fender when I was a little kid and this and "Before The Next Teardrop Falls" that y'all reacted to the other day were on it. :)
Ah classic old party song from when I was young picking up bottle caps around the families legs, hearing the clacking of bottles and the drunk singing of our nannies and aunties. What fun thoose days were
As a kid my mother listened to all of this great old country music! All of it! She had all the 8track tapes and albums back then! She kept a radio on the kitchen counter,we had only one am country radio station there in Ardmore, Oklahoma at the time! That radio stayed on that station all the time!WBAP, I think was the radio station name!
Y'all are probably tired of me saying all the songs you react to is my favorite. But they are all my favorite. I have thousands of favorites. Lol Freddy could really sing. Mama loved this song and again we'd be dancing in the kitchen. With 5 of us girls we were always in the kitchen. The boys weren't invited to our party. They were out numbered.
Folks around here loved Freddy. He appealed to all genres - country, Tejano, easy listening, and some rock. We sure do miss him. RIP Freddy Fender
I live in San Benito
That song was most popular in clubs bars etc probably 1
RIP Indeed! ❤
18's year old back then , i think he's the first hispanic artist since Ritchie valens to cross into mainstream
He was one of the most famous Mexican Americans in America at the time. Tejano from Texas.
I gave him a ride to the airport when he stayed at the motel I worked at when he was here for a show, he is a very nice man, so sweet.
Freddy Fender came into my life through my grandparents. Peace, Love, & Respect. 🫡🫡🫡
He's one of those guys. That nobody can copy. He owns every song he sings. Absolutely love his voice
He owns every song he sings. Yes. And a couple of us have requested Secret Love - that's my favorite Freddy song, it's so intense. But can you believe it was a DORIS DAY song, but now, as you say, Freddy owns it!!.
Well said and so true. When Freddy Fender sang a song it became his and all other versions, as good as they may be, just can't hold a candle to his!
Before the next tear drop falls is a good one by him. When I started dating my husband 11 years ago not many people in my family liked him but my dad played this song for me and told me to follow my heart ❤️
That's my favorite Freddy Fender song..
Yes ma'am. Your heart should always be your preferred leader.
Yes before the next tear drop falls needs to be next!!!

Man, this is my childhood music. Love him!
I used to love to rollerskate to this song.
He was born here in DEEP DEEP South Texas in a nice city called San Benito, Texas (about 45 mins from here) & close to South Padre Island.
I always loved Freddy
I grew up listening to this. My grandmother loved Freddy Fender. What a wonderful flashback I hadn’t heard his music in so long. Now I’m downloading it. Thanks.
Great song! Mel looking fabulous today😊
Thank you, Thank you! We love his voice and music.
He had kidney dialysis at the same place as my step dad; he said he was a very kind and funny person, entertaining the patients while on dialysis!💖
Secret Love...Another great, and heart felt one by Freddy.
He was really popular in the 70's & 80's.
He passed away some time ago.
I enjoyed his music. He brought a nice change to a very pop, country music.
Freddie also played with the Texas Tornados you need to check out - (Hey Baby) Que Paso" [Live from Austin, TX
Agreed!!
My mom and dad used to see him in the local clubs in the Rio Grande Valley. Great performer.
Ooh. I remember this one! It's been a while, and then some since I heard it. I like it. I like it a lot. ❤
LEGENDARY
Freddy was known back in the day of singing some of verses in spanish. As a teenager I went out and brought his 8 track. LOL
You are telling our age with the 8 track
Makes you want to go back to 76 to this concert

Never was a big country and western lover, but my older sister was and Freddy Fender was one of the few that I loved hearing, him and Glenn Campbell. 🥰
Great song. He was an excellent singer, and under-rated. He was loved by country music lovers.
Before the Next Tear Drop Falls is a phenomenal Freddy Fender song. Check it out y'all will appreciate it. Y'all Are Awesome keep doing what y'all doing.

I remember seeing and hearing him on Hee Haw in the mid to late 1970s.
Awesome talent now gone the way of so many other greats. 😥
This was in the Netherlands! US country music was worldwide.
You two are the most likely reactors to view many different artists. You seem to have the widest variety! Great taste in music!
Thank You for playing this , another great one by Freddy is " Secret Love ♥️

One of my moms favorite songs after elvis of course. Chat with his son on Facebook. He's absolutely incredible - and has a wonderful sense of humor.
His real Name is: Baldemar Garza Huerta. His life is fabulous to read about.
Served in the Marine Corps, In 2001 was reported to be dead by Billboard, Served time in the Joint back when Marijuana was the hysteria of crimes..lol.

He got his star name " Fender" from playing his guitar and playing his Fender Amp, so he called himself Freddy Fender
Y'all are probably tired of me saying all the songs you react to is my favorite. But they are all my favorite. I have thousands of favorites. Lol
Freddy could really sing. Mama loved this song and again we'd be dancing in the kitchen. With 5 of us girls we were always in the kitchen. The boys weren't invited to our party. They were out numbered.
I loved that Freddy, so cute and oh those Mexican love songs.
This song never gets old❤️❤️❤️👌👌👌
I haven’t heard this in decades
With every video you guys react to I love you 2 more!! Your so honest with your feelings
I actually watched him in concert in Illinois when I was a child. I even got to shake his hand at the end.
Great voice!
I prefer 1975 studio version, but he first recorded this in 1960 apparently....
Wow, I haven't heard Freddy Fender in years. My father was a big fan.
