Fender had the unique voice, the sound and the look! He had a slew of great tunes and had a great run in the '70's. This was his breakout song! Savvy pick and reaction, Imadrummin and Harri! Thank you, fellas!
My mom loved Freddy Fender. Her favorite was Before the Next Teardrop Falls. This hit me in the feels, I lost her many years ago. If you ever get a chance check out Raul Malo and the Mavericks cover of it......beautiful as is everything he sings. The one at Knucklehead's has great audio posted by thxanne.
I like this one, too. I often listen to his "Before the Next Teardrop Falls." Did I miss some days, dear Harri? Your hair. You are always elegantly lovely and strong. I love your smart sensitive reactions.
Terrific song by Freddy Fender. I miss the days when Top 40 radio included great country songs like this, along with pop, R&B, rock and new wave, before radio station formats started to get so segmented in the late 1980s and '90s through today. Thanks, Harri and Imadrummin!
Written by the "Crazy Cajun" Huey P. Meaux, whose series of record labels originating from his South Texas home territory produced a number of hits on the r&b and country charts, from Freddy Fender to Sir Douglas Quintet to Barbara Lynn to B.J. Thomas. He worked as well with Jerry Lee Lewis, Mickey Gilley, Dr. John, Delbert McClinton and many others. In the '90s he was imprisoned for some unsavory things we won't go into. But he was a fine, soulful songwriter. Thanks Imadrummin & Harri.
The 1970s had amazing music, and this is among that. I remember this song from back then. It's great. Texas gave the world a lot of amazing artists and bands. Thanks for sharing this song reaction. Cheers, Harri! ✌️
Yesssss! I’ve been waiting and waiting for one of you guys to react to The Legendary Freddy Fender! Yessssss! Update: after listening to your reaction, it’s a really weird coincidence, but I’ve been listening to this song for basically 60 years now, and listening through this single time and actually before you even said it, I thought “Wow, I think I hear Elvis I’m this song?”. That’s crazy that this was the first time I had that thought! And as far as the length goes, in that era of Country Music History, they typically wanted most songs to be under 2:30 minutes (but almost never over 3 minutes) to be released as a radio single to Country Radio.
Freddy wrote this song in 1959, but didn't release it until 1975. He did a stint in prison for possession of Marijuana, then straightened his life out, doing Spanish covers of Elvis and Ray Charles. This was a big hit with a wonderful melody, Freddy's great vocals and great instrumentation. Great reaction Handsome Harri ❤❤ Great memory Imadrummin👏👏 Cheers from Canada ❤❤🇨🇦🇨🇦
Love Freddy Fender ❤️. His music was on jukeboxes in every diner here in the south. I feel like a kid again every time I hear his voice. "Last Teardrop" is my favorite. 😊
The song's arrangement certainly sounds like it came from the late '50s. And that's not a complaint, far from it -- the nostalgic sound and feel is part of its charm.
I was a boy when this was popular. I was on a Pop Warner football team at the time. One of my teammates dad loved Freddy Fender. The dad would drive his son to practice, roll down the windows, plug in the 8-track, and play Freddy Fender the whole two hours of practice. We were seranaded for the next two hours.
A story about this song. In the mid to late 1970's I was playing keys in a 6 piece band [ with 2 horn players]. We played a wedding reception. They wanted this song for the Wedding Dance for the couple, so we learned it and the drummer sang it. Later that night they requested it be played again. The drummer had drank about 6 beers by then. He could barely get through it, totally drunk, slurring words words etc... and the rest of the band could barely play it we were laughing so hard...imagine a drunk guy singing "Wasted Days and Wasted Nights...." oh, the comic irony...I wish we had a video of that...
Great request Imadrummin. Freddy's voice melts my heart. Like Merle Haggard Freddy had a checkered past. Music was his passion Great analysis Harri. I enjoyed watching you listen to this gem.
I liked this at the time, even though I was mainly listening to Blues Rock, Pink Floyd & Bowie then. IDK why, but this made me think of The Amazing Rhythm Aces. Check out Third Rate Romance.
💞 I can appreciate this song now but as a child my mother played this, & 2 others, over & over, infinity til it drove me insane &bc I heard it in my sleep & I boycotted FF (as well as the other singer's songs) ☺️🫣 being old now, I can appreciate & actually like it .. & ❤ur review Harry🤩

Harry, his previous song you did was “Before the last teardrop falls”.
Wow, what a blast from the past. Hadn't heard this in decades.

Oh yes!!! Johnny Rodriguez 💚🎶🎵
The song begins with the title, and it's never repeated again. 🙂

Freddy Fender ~ More then any other artist I can think of ~ was the first bridge that brought Tejano ~ TexMex & Country music audiences together
Great memories from this song
I was never a fan but my father sure was. He met him several times. We have some awesome pics of the 2 of them 💚🎶🎵
He was blessed with a unique voice. It was a time when songs meant something and spoke from the heart.
Another great artist from Texas, where I was born in 1960 and still live here.
