It’s so crazy that Red led to 1989, her biggest commercial success to that date, and now Red TV led to Midnights, her biggest commercial success to date.
In The Great War when Taylor sings "And maybe it was ego swinging Maybe it was her" i can't stop feeling that by "her" she means the "Problem Taylor" from Anti-Hero, so it was very interesting to see that Bonny kind of coupled them together in the top tier 🤔
I feel like Taylor has referenced Joe's 'womanizer' past a few times now, so I figured it was an ex of his/ a girl he was seeing before Taylor "locked it down"
I had a miscarriage last month and I walked home and Taylor sung "bigger than the whole sky" right to my heart. I cried for 2 days straight. This song felt like a permission for the grieve that I felt. I am so grateful that this song carried me trough my emotions

To me, I always interpreted “mastermind” as her reclaiming what people have said about her being “manipulative, scheming, calculative” - like what she did with blank space!
I love that you guys talk about how great of a concept album this is, because I totally agree! This is some of her most incredible, cohesive, and well thought out projects she's ever done. I sat down when the record arrived and listened to it with my mom, and she turned to me and said "She really is just going to get better and better, isn't she?" And I couldn't agree with my momma more! She is just constantly growing with every creative work she does and this album's reflection and retrospection is just perfection.
Being a Swiftie during your teens and early 20s is sooo fun because as my pre-frontal cortex is LITERALLY developing I have fathomed different Taylor songs at random times. There’s been songs I just never vibed with for like 3 years and then all the sudden it’s my favorite song. I love my brain chemistry being actually adjusted by Taylor the mastermind herself❤
I just love what she did in The Great War, turning it into this magnificent metaphor. Just like in Miss Americana and the Heartbreak Prince, she easily manages to create this scenario around the themes.
i really don’t interpret labyrinth in the way that you guys do apparently. to me, when she says “i’ll be getting over you my whole life” and stuff, she’s already bracing herself for the end before it’s even began because that’s always how it goes. that’s why she says “uh oh i’m falling in love oh no i’m falling in love again” but then she realizes “oh i’m falling in love” and it’s actually not as scary as she expected it to be because he’s healing all her broken parts. the verses seem to be about her struggling with everything going on in 2016, not struggling with a breakup. that’s what makes it sweet.
Personally I interpret it as the verses being her last relationship/breakup and how she felt, thinking she would never find love again, and the chorus being her in fact finding love again and being like omg wow. She also says “it only hurts this much right now / is what I *was* thinking the whole time” which sounds past tense to me, and then of course the bit about I’ll be getting over you aka a person, and instead of “I would be getting over you”. I think I also may be a bit biased because I just got out of a 4 year relationship LOL - and I too felt like I’ll be getting over you my whole life. And I hope one day, I meet someone new and feel/relate to the chorus. Anyways, your interpretation is totally a Cornelia Street kind of vibe (we haven’t broken up yet, but if we do this is how I’d feel) and funny enough I thought these girls said your interpretation on first listen, I remember hearing being surprised because I thought differently… so interesting they changed their minds!! But at the end of the day I think only Taylor knows what she meant but more importantly - I love her music because there can be multiple interpretations 😭 and I LOVE when I have one, and learn about a different one I wouldn’t have thought of!
@@amandaleighplans that’s what i thought at first too but after being confused by it for the first few days i decided she can’t be signing about more than one person because she uses “you” throughout the whole song, meaning she’s referring to one person. and also the last two guys she dated were calvin and tom and she would NOT be getting over either of them for her whole life. she moved on from both of them in the span of like 2 weeks lol
Yeah we completely agree with what you are saying ☺️ I thought all we said in the video is that we Taylor has touched on this feeling before in songs like Cornelia st and dancing with our hands tied etc… but didn’t really go into what the song is about. Im confused did we say something else? Haha
i love you two guys so so much. i feel so close to you and your conclusions on the album. ive been watching your videos ever since the folklore reaction and you just keep getting better. love you favourite swifties
I think maybe you’d like Dear Reader more if you fathomed it like this-“You should find another guiding light” is her knowing that she’s not perfect, but “(But I shine so bright)” is her acknowledging that she and her music is where our love is ❤
Snow on the beach is probably my favorite so far. The way they chose to us the vocals is brilliant. Taylor is the beach and Lana is the snow that falls on the beach/covers the beach. This to me makes it a perfect song!
while I understand why Would’ve Could’ve Should’ve is on the 3 AM edition because it is a bit more darker and fits perfectly within the other 3 AM songs…. it still physically pains me that it isn’t in the original album. like i cannot fathom buying a Midnights vinyl that doesn’t have WCS on it!!!!
the more you listen to SOTB the more you hear Lana. she's there the entire time even if she's not singing and for people who complain about the "lack of Lana", they just aren't listening hard enough. I still haven't really tapped into the baseline yet for Bejeweled and I'm so excited to eventually finally pick up on it! Taylor really said kill them with kindness but make it angry in that song!
@@brunetteXer but listening "harder" to a particular song often makes you discover more layers of it, it's like a new experience every time. once you discover all of them, you start to hear as they merge togther every time just casually listening to that song. I was a bit dissapointed with SOTB the first time I heard it but I let myself explore more of it and now it feels completely different from the first time. It's magical and this is what music is about!
@@brunetteXer just listening to the song multiple times and actually paying attention will help you hear Lana more. honestly the more you listen to a song and the more you pay attention to everything happening in it the more you discover about the song. you can't discover everything about a song just on the first listen. if you only listened to SOTB once and then wrote it off cause you didn't hear Lana right away then that's on you for not giving it a fair shot. the more you have time to take in a song the more likely your opinions of it change. Some people upon first listen to an album have a specific song as their favorite but then after a few more listens they have a different one as their favorite. you'll never know you like the song if you don't give it a fair chance
after Emily mentioning the perspective of BTTWS possibly about mourning girlhood and who she wcs been, i fully blanked out everything you both said for at least 5 minutes. mind blown, emotions rattling, throat tightening, and heart racing. yep that's the perspective that hits hardest for me
Perhaps, there's a reason why the line would've, could've should've was presented there to let us know there is a relationship between these two songs. I also like that she inverted that track arrangement where the acceptance was the first one to come before the rage and anger to the one she's singing to in WCS.
Every Taylor release I'm always think about that part in Miss Americana where she talks about how female artist have to always reinvent themselves in a way that is new but not too much, and just that pressure of feeling the need to reinventing. I can't believe 10 albums in she still is able to find ways to play with a new, exciting sounds and concepts that keep us on our toes but also finds ways to tie back references from her other albums.... 🤯Love your superior content 🥰
@@emilee7021 right, i hear the most ridiculous things like stuff like it’s about Harry styles or Tom Hiddleston?? Like sorry what, do people lack general interpretation skills? It’s not even THAT hard to grasp
Interesting! Mastermind is my #1 song!!! I love the TRIPLE meaning. Besides what you mentioned, it is also about how she is a mastermind in crafting, scheming her own career with ties to YOYOK. Love the melody that you all have yet to fathom. But of course respect to all Swifties opinions. All Taylor songs are absolutely offensive as compared to any other artist. Thanks for all your work!
I knoooow I respect all fellow Swifties opinions as we all have different tastes bahaha but I’m so sad they both shot Mastermind straight to the bottom 🥹 Mastermind is SOOO GEWD
I second this. The pre chorus is on another level and the line “and I swear, I’m only cryptic and Machiavellian cause I care” just gives me a massive boost of serotonin every time! ❤
I would absolutely LOVE for her to re-record her Christmas album! I love the self-written songs on that record so much and would love to hear them with her more matured vocals. Can’t believe it’s 15 years old!
I actually think midnight rain is about no high profile people she has dated. I think it is about one of her first loves in highschool or in her hometown! She thinks about him time to time and what could've been if she chose that path.
Lavender Haze and Welcome to New York are easily her best album openers. They both lay down the theme of the whole album very well and excites you for the other songs.
Also a little note on the sound of High Infidelity. The beeping really plays into the lyric: “keeping count”. The beeping sounds like gaining points in a video game, like the score increasing
I just want to say a massive thank you to Bonny and Emily for their channel. I’ve always been a TS fan but I never really fathomed and as soon as I started doing it alongside them, I found a whole new love for TS and thoroughly enjoyed her discography in a whole new way. I genuinely don’t believe I would have loved midnights as much if I hadn’t had the previous TS lure info from the girls and it means I’ve had the best few weeks of my music listening life and I’m forever changed and inspired.
their album breakdowns are way better than those who are in publications. they have strong grasp of the Taylor universe and they know how to discuss and substantiate their opinions in a balance manner without being over patronizing or deprecating despite being huge swifties
I saw a single snowflake outside and "Tis' the damn season" instantly played and now i cannot stop listening to evermore again. Folklore for the morning, evermore for the evening and midnights for the Night time
High Infidelity is my most listened to song as well as my favorite song from Midnights too! I’m so glad you love it as much as I do!! When Taylor sings “you know there’s many different ways that you can kill the one you love, the slowest way is never loving them enough” then goes into saying “do I really have to tell you how he brought me back to life” it absolutely DESTROYS me every single time! 😭😭 Love you both and this video! Can’t wait to see what you have in store for this channel!🤍
All bad things Taylor gets to experience easily turn out as "blessing in disguise" 'cause she knows how to handle and react to it. Everything Taylor does is an actual result of negative criticisism, scrutiny, putting her skills in question, and hoax representation of her. They questioned her songwriting, she gave us SEFL-WRITTEN album. They said she's boring, she switched genres and gave us a POP BIBLE. They wanted her to disappear (then looked for her later on) so she MADE AN IMPACTFUL COMEBACK implying that she stays. They labeled her Lover album as weak lyrically, so she gave us SISTERS ALBUM (with switching to another genre... during a pandemic). She knows how to play her card. SHE. IS. THAT. QUEEN.
i tested pos for covid yesterday and i was YEARNING for a video from you guys to cheer me up and now i wake up to this. the Taylor Gods have answered my prayers. i adore you guys so much, thank you for always lifting my mood💜💜
CAN YOU PLEASE DO A RANKING VIDEO FOR EACH ALBUM?? This was so fun and I enjoyed getting to follow along a little easier. Your big ranking video went so fast that it was hard to fathom it but this mini breakdown and ranking was so great and I’d love to see what your rankings would be on all the other albums, especially albums with vault tracks! It’s crazy cause we have totally different opinions on midnights. Midnights was a grower for me. It was sitting pretty low on my Taylor Swift album tier list at first, and while it still hasn’t beaten out red or 1989 (and I don’t think it ever will) a lot of the songs have really grown on me. This album just isn’t my favorite sound personally. Like that autotune voice grinds my soul like a cheese grater so anything with that autotune voice is automatically a still to fathom lol but so many songs, especially the 3am tracks have become favorites. Some of my tops are antihero, would’ve could’ve should’ve, Great War, high infidelity, maroon, bejeweled, mastermind, karma, and vigilante sh- and hits different. One of my favorite things about music is the way we all have totally different tastes and some songs connect with some people more than others. And that’s what I think is really cool about Taylor cause she really does have something for everyone. Crossing my fingers TS11 will be that aforementioned rock album. 🤞🤞 (although I’m sure the speak now vault tracks will scratch the itch lol)
This is so random but I love in evermore she opens the album saying "I'll meet you after dark" in willow and then here obviously she starts the album with "meet me at midnight"
The thing with me is that if I really like the song I can listen to it for hours. Like literally hours straight on repeat. And the only thing I didn't get at first with Midnights is that for me there were no songs like August, RWYLM, Cruel summer. And then I came across with Hits different. Boy, this song transfers me into an uncontrollable state of joy and happiness, shivers all over my body, trembling, smile. So good! So my top 5 now: Hits different WCS YOYOK Maroon Karma As always, love your thoughts. And I even wrote out a quote of yours about ranking TS songs.😀
you guys should do a video where you make up your own taylor album by picking ONE song from every album, and on the taylors version' ones pick fave from the vault, and you have got to imagine that these songs on your own album will be the only songs your ever allowed to hear again lol... PLEEEEEEEEASE i would watch that all the time, please consider it lol just for a laugh, been watching you guys since your reaction to folklore, i wait for your reactions every time taylor releases new music lol, love you guys xxx
Not gonna lie, my heart broke a little when you guys put Bigger Than The Whole Sky in the "Yet To Fathom" category. Every time I listen to this song, I start balling. Easily my favorite song from the album.
idk can someone fathom what it’s about for me? i mean i like it but it’s just not clicking for me. i like it in the way i like a lot of songs but i don’t feeeel it in the way i feel taylor songs
A few weeks later I feel like this is really the third part of her reflection trilogy, starting with folklore. She turned her poetry and introspection onto other characters and stories for the last two albums, with a little bit of exploration into her own life here and there. Midnights fully turns that gaze on to her own life and even builds on some of the sounds from the previous two albums. This album seems like the right place for her to land and I can't wait to see where she decides to go next.
One of my favorite lyrics off Midnights is "'how'd we end up on the floor anyway' (you say) 'You're roomates cheap-ass screwtop Rose,' That's how." it stood out at my first listen. It's funny and but somehow forceful? That line is showing how she's the one cracking jokes and making people laugh. And its at once a beautiful vignette, expresses that character of the relationship in the moment and somehow still foreshadowing the future rhetorical "How did we end up here?" when the breakdown happens.
That’s actually a funny point if you believe that maroon is a mature red (and about the same person) because it ties in with “I think it’s strange that you think I’m funny cause he never did.”
I had an epiphany last night thinking about how Maroon is from the aftermath of the Red album, or how it's a much fucked up shade of red (dwelling on it during midnight) and I started going back to listen to Red's album opener which is State of Grace, and I was able to form bits and pieces about how it's about Jake ++ the first verse being about hookup culture during one's early 20s and I was like WOAH especially this part: "I'm walking fast through the traffic lights Busy streets and busy lives And all we know is touch and go We are alone with our changing minds We fall in love 'til it hurts or bleeds, or fades in time" It was a total mindfuck because I've grown up with this song and now it takes on a whole different meaning, e.g. she never saw jake coming, and describing love as brave and wild which are not totally attached as descriptions of "good", but you coming into terms that you've chosen to be brave and wild during this time of your life, so overall state of grace is much more than it means now to me.
I’m so grateful for you! I have no swifties friends so this videos are very important to me 💘 my top 5: 1. The Great War 2. Mastermind 3. You’re on your own, kid 4. Bejeweled 5. Would’ve, Could’ve, Should’ve
I agree with everything you said about the opportunities having to re-record her music brought and the massive positive impact it had on her career. Also creates an opportunity to capture new fans brought on by folklore etc who may not have given them a chance in the past since it was considered cool to dislike her or hate on her music and songwriting very much pre-1989.
i was just waiting for more Midnight's videos and you girls gave it to us, so thank u so much. 🌌✨ my ranking right now: 01. midnight rain 02. the great war 03. lavender haze 04. karma 05. would've could've should've 06. high infidelity 07. anti-hero 08. maroon 09. you're on your own kid 10. bejeweled 11. mastermind 12. snow on the beach 13. glitch 14. bigger than the whole sky 15. vigilante shit 16. sweet nothing 17. labyrinth 18. dear reader 19. paris 20. question...?
One of my favourite things about this album is that there is something in here for everyone. Everyone I talk to has a different top song and the rankings are so different between us all. She created something that we’ll all love 🥰
Labyrinth is in my top five because to me it perfectly captures the feelings of anxiety and self-sabotage in relationship, where you just expect things to go badly so you break up before it can really start, but for the first time, you have a partner that understands you for you and doesn’t let that anxiety and attempts at self-sabotage get to them and are just a constant figure showing you that things can go well. The outro exemplifies the feelings of anxiety starting deep down and slowly builds and gets higher until you push the anxiety back down because you finally have someone that doesn’t make you anxious because of their consistency. Also, I’m so happy Taylor has found someone that is that rock for her. It also makes me believe that I’ll be able to find that one day. 💕
Yasss the respect for Would've Could've Should've!! I love this song so much!! And your comparison to All Too well is so well placed!! Just purely because All Too Well is just 10 Minutes of epic song writing and it is 10 minutes long if not for that Would've Could've Should've would be my favourite TS song ever!!
So glad that I found this today! I have a cold, and I’m sitting here with my baby kitty, cat, in my lap, purring :-). This made my day, so thank you very much!
I couldn't agree with you more on Snow On The Beach. It wasn't one of my first listen songs but as I've absorbed more of the album it's really moved up in my ranking. I didn't have the knee jerk reaction of "not enough Lana" that everyone else did but it still took some time for me to process it. I think the entire sound production sounds like snow falling once you focus on it and I LOVE the way their voices blend into a 3rd voice that doesn't really sound like either of them when they harmonize. Bigger than the Whole Sky got immediately moved to I can't listen to this song it's too painful category for me. I really think it hits you depending on what kind of loss you have experienced. I've had some close family members die in the last few years and that song hits way too hard. I literally burst in to tears at the first chorus on first listen. I've yet to have a moment with Midnight Rain or Labyrinth but I can see it coming. Vigilante Shit is in my top five on the album but I love punk music and that song has punk sensibilities. I just love watching you guys and I love when you don't agree on songs.
wow it’s so interesting watching this because mastermind was immediately my favorite song off midnights and in my top 10 all-time, yet I can see how it could still be hard to fathom… thank you SO much for this video!! ❤
Hii Bonny and Emily, I love your channel so much. I always loved Taylor Swift (obviously) but ever since I've been following you, the perspective I've got on her songs and music has genuinely made me appreciate her even more. Y'all have in it's truest sense helped me celebrate her music even more. Watching your videos has always felt like being excited with our friends over our favorite singer and obsessing over, being freaked out by and enjoying the tiniest of details to the fullest. Thank you for all of this, sending love. Also, looking forward to your breakdown of this album. I love those 4-5 parts endless talks over albums, songs, bridges, outros, backing-vocals, lyric changes, all of it. Put it out at your own pace. ❤️🤍💜
The thing you talked about that midnights feels new but old is what I’ve been feeling as well I noticed that because there are a lot of references in the lyrics and sampled/similar sounds(LV to ITHK, OOTW und question…?, KOMH in Maroon etc) makes the songs feel kinda nostalgic and connected to me. Like yes they are new but also the story’s in general are not new but advanced in a way
i am so grateful that you guys exist and have this channel and care about taylor like i do and think / feel the things i do. i need you guys so much, thank you
i love hearing y'all talk about Taylor Swift, not many (if any) of my friends are Swifties so i don't really have a lot of people that i can talk to for hours about Taylor Swift with! you're videos are so well articulated and it really helps me get a better understanding and appreciation for various songs that i otherwise wouldn't have had and i love that! it also sometimes shifts my perspective on other songs too and honestly, thank you! i'm wishing y'all all the luck once international tickets are available cause i was SOL when it came to trying to get Chicago tickets and resell prices are *obscene* like i'm not gonna pay $720 for nosbleed seats
Same girls! I have been trying to listen to a couple of other songs from previous albums which used to be on repeat however , as you said , i feel like I’m cheating on Midnights and gotta go back to it . This album is perfection, I knew she is the Music Industry and no one does it like she does , but THIS …. Nothing compares to it . Thanks for your videos by the way, following you from the Uk , and absolutely love you both
Love that you guys put yourself through the agony of this for us to watch and live vicariously through -- true team players. Also, you guys are both LITERALLY glowing in this video!
Midnight rain is debated wether it is about tom h or taylor l. For me it's about taylor lautner. It's like another version of back to december - good things about him and his family, talking about how he's a nice guy. Maybe reaching here, BUT "jumping off things in the ocean"gave me flashbacks to Twilight New Moon where werewolves jumped off cliffs. When you know, you know 🤧
Also, High Infidelity - it gets more superior when you look at it from a perspective of a housewife. "You said I was freeloading.. " "picket fence as sharp as.. i was dancing around it" feel so sad for real women esp in older times who had to go through this
Stained glass windows in my mind - like stained glasses in churches. Picture this haunting imagery. I mean... why you describing trauma and guilt like this. Omg who gave the right 😭
oooh i got a completely different idea from the ocean line. my mind IMMEDIATELY went to those photos of taylor + tom on vacation and the beach (ala the i
SO EXCITED TO WATCH THIS ONE 💖 Midnights is such a superior album, i don't know how taylor always tops her last album with a new one ughh she's just so genius 😩
Me, never paying attention to Taylor‘s music ever, listening the album just because I was curious, now 3 weeks later: IT WAS maaaROON I JUST WANNA STAY in that lavender HAAZE Breath in breath through breath deep breeeeeeeatttthhhh ouuuut Karma‘s gonna track you down: STEP BY STEP from TOWN to TOWN Aaaare we falling like: snow on the beach, weird but FUCKING beautiful Then what did you dooooo-oooooo? He was sunlight I was MID.NIGHT. raaaaain Freaking love this album
My top song at the moment is definitely Midnight rain, I'm simply obsessed with the lyrics and sound. Production is simply superior (I describe it as Tardis sound jsksk) and to me the whole vibe feels like time being paused. The part at the beginning of the song (after opening lines and right before the first verse) almost sounds like old film projector which gives me imagery of that scene from Lover music video, where she sits down in front of a screen, memories playing right in front of her. "Sometimes we all get just what we wanted" is one of my favorite lyrics from the album, if not my number one; it can be both hopeful and sinister at the same time which is what makes it PERFECT
You don’t understand how it feels to wake up on a Sunday morning and see this upload!!!! I’m ecstatic!!!! Today’s going to be a good day in my lavender haze for sure
Bigger than the whole sky is in my top 5 purely because I can relate SO HARD to the lyrics. I think you really have to be in the mood for it and if you are it HITS.

i really don’t interpret labyrinth in the way that you guys do apparently. to me, when she says “i’ll be getting over you my whole life” and stuff, she’s already bracing herself for the end before it’s even began because that’s always how it goes. that’s why she says “uh oh i’m falling in love oh no i’m falling in love again” but then she realizes “oh i’m falling in love” and it’s actually not as scary as she expected it to be because he’s healing all her broken parts. the verses seem to be about her struggling with everything going on in 2016, not struggling with a breakup. that’s what makes it sweet.
I understand it the same way, and Labyrinth is for sure one of my top songs of the album.
This!!
Haha
THANK YOU for making the rankings less toxic than how TikTok is doing it, that being said YOYOK is #1 all time how dare Taylor write that song
Absolutely agree with this! Bonny and Emily understand that music is nuanced and subjective and complex.
i love you two guys so so much. i feel so close to you and your conclusions on the album. ive been watching your videos ever since the folklore reaction and you just keep getting better. love you favourite swifties
Thanks so much Ingrid that means the world to us 💖 thank you for being here and supporting our videos 😭
@@chatsandreacts i love u so much u dont even understand
I think maybe you’d like Dear Reader more if you fathomed it like this-“You should find another guiding light” is her knowing that she’s not perfect, but “(But I shine so bright)” is her acknowledging that she and her music is where our love is ❤
Dear Reader is another take on Anti-hero. I love it.
Snow on the beach is probably my favorite so far.
The way they chose to us the vocals is brilliant.
Taylor is the beach and Lana is the snow that falls on the beach/covers the beach.
This to me makes it a perfect song!
Omg that’s makes so much sense
Its sounds so magical with the 2 voices harmonizing in "now im all for you like Janet, can this be a real thing can it " i love it!!
@@Booli......614 that is literally my favorite part of the song!
@@Fucorii i know right!!!!
Actually perfection in music form. I feel bad for those that don’t get it.
while I understand why Would’ve Could’ve Should’ve is on the 3 AM edition because it is a bit more darker and fits perfectly within the other 3 AM songs…. it still physically pains me that it isn’t in the original album. like i cannot fathom buying a Midnights vinyl that doesn’t have WCS on it!!!!
3 am needs a physical format
It's so sad that it's 1 yr later and still no vinyl exists with all the 3 am tracks 😥
If the stories from “Tis the Damn Season” and “Dorothea” merged it would be “Midnight Rain”. I can’t unhear it now that I’ve heard it that way.
mind = blown 😱
😱
the more you listen to SOTB the more you hear Lana. she's there the entire time even if she's not singing and for people who complain about the "lack of Lana", they just aren't listening hard enough. I still haven't really tapped into the baseline yet for Bejeweled and I'm so excited to eventually finally pick up on it! Taylor really said kill them with kindness but make it angry in that song!
hmm, but should we have to listen 'harder' to hear Lana?
@@brunetteXer but listening "harder" to a particular song often makes you discover more layers of it, it's like a new experience every time. once you discover all of them, you start to hear as they merge togther every time just casually listening to that song. I was a bit dissapointed with SOTB the first time I heard it but I let myself explore more of it and now it feels completely different from the first time. It's magical and this is what music is about!
I agree...i love sotb just the way it is, it sounds magical
@@brunetteXer just listening to the song multiple times and actually paying attention will help you hear Lana more. honestly the more you listen to a song and the more you pay attention to everything happening in it the more you discover about the song. you can't discover everything about a song just on the first listen. if you only listened to SOTB once and then wrote it off cause you didn't hear Lana right away then that's on you for not giving it a fair shot. the more you have time to take in a song the more likely your opinions of it change. Some people upon first listen to an album have a specific song as their favorite but then after a few more listens they have a different one as their favorite. you'll never know you like the song if you don't give it a fair chance
after Emily mentioning the perspective of BTTWS possibly about mourning girlhood and who she wcs been, i fully blanked out everything you both said for at least 5 minutes. mind blown, emotions rattling, throat tightening, and heart racing. yep that's the perspective that hits hardest for me
Absolutely agreed with every word of this it was a lot to fathom
Perhaps, there's a reason why the line would've, could've should've was presented there to let us know there is a relationship between these two songs. I also like that she inverted that track arrangement where the acceptance was the first one to come before the rage and anger to the one she's singing to in WCS.
SO EXCITED FOR THIS VIDEO LIKE YOU WOULDNT BELIEVEEEEEEE. our iconic queens !!!!
I gasped at work when I saw this notification 🙏 needed this after fully processing midnights
I think those who understand what “Red” means and represents in Taylor Swift-lore appreciate Maroon for the masterpiece that it is.
i seriously can’t believe anyone would think it’s about someone other than jake. she references red in so many different ways *on purpose*
@@emilee7021 right, i hear the most ridiculous things like stuff like it’s about Harry styles or Tom Hiddleston?? Like sorry what, do people lack general interpretation skills? It’s not even THAT hard to grasp
I'm not sure I even need to understand Red 100% but I fell in love with Maroon and it's my favorite off the album
Tay-lore
I'm a new swiftie and am becoming more and more obsessed when I watch your videos. You two are so fun to watch!
same!
Welcome to the fam
hehe thats the best!! 🫶🏼
same!!!
same, i've only been listening since redtv and this channel was a huge part of me falling down the rabbithole!
same here, bestie!!
justice for mastermind 😭 it‘s in my top 5 for sure! it was my #1 for the first week and a half after the album dropped
Same here!!!! Since i think i know them, i think mastermind will grow on bonnie ❤ we have similar rankings on all TS songs so
give her some time 😊
Oh I definitely respect this choice! and its in the "yet to fathom" category so I am sure much fathoming will still happen ☺
I would absolutely LOVE for her to re-record her Christmas album! I love the self-written songs on that record so much and would love to hear them with her more matured vocals. Can’t believe it’s 15 years old!
omg same. christmases when you were mine>>>>
I actually think midnight rain is about no high profile people she has dated. I think it is about one of her first loves in highschool or in her hometown! She thinks about him time to time and what could've been if she chose that path.
yes. 100% yes.
I agree completely
I feel like it could be about the guys she dated in HS Who stayed the same but also taylor lautner because “jumping things off the ocean “ new moon?
i think it's about her early loves- high school boyfriends but also taylor lautner.
Lavender Haze and Welcome to New York are easily her best album openers. They both lay down the theme of the whole album very well and excites you for the other songs.
Yes!!
I JUST FINISHED RE-WATCHING BOTH THE MIDNIGHTS REACTION VIDEOS AND NOW THIS ONE IS OUT. IT'S 2:30 AM, GONNA WATCH THIS RN!
their album breakdowns are way better than those who are in publications. they have strong grasp of the Taylor universe and they know how to discuss and substantiate their opinions in a balance manner without being over patronizing or deprecating despite being huge swifties
Love you both and this video!
SHE. IS. THAT. QUEEN.
Thank you for acknowledging that Maroon is the best thing she's ever written. She references 10 different shades of red!!!
oh wow 10 different shades how does that mean it’s her best song hahaha
@@rrachhelll it's one of many reasons why I believe it's her best song
Maroon: “when you splashed your wine into me”
Clean: “wine-stained dress I can’t wear anymore”

I love being able to process and fathom Taylor’s albums with you guys, always appreciative of the different perspectives and feels you guys bring 💕💕💕
I’m dying to hear what you guys thought of the whole ticketmaster tour ticket disaster!!! I luckily got tickets but it was CRAY.
They're in aust- they're not affected.
@@MissteriousMisstress I actually believe they wanted to try and get tickets for a US show
@@MissteriousMisstress I know, but I’m curious what they think! they’ve been to many tours in aus!☺️✨
Ive been Swiftie since a month and im obsessed with you're channel!!
The full circle duo of A Place In This World & You’re on Your Own Kid is simply insane to me
The thing with me is that if I really like the song I can listen to it for hours.
So good!
So my top 5 now:
Hits different
WCS
YOYOK
Maroon
Karma
As always, love your thoughts.
PLEEEEEEEEASE i would watch that all the time, please consider it lol just for a laugh, been watching you guys since your reaction to folklore, i wait for your reactions every time taylor releases new music lol, love you guys xxx
lets take a moment to look and appreciate bonnys hair because girl it looks perfect
5 VIDEOS OUT OF ONE ALBUM? y’all are putting in work and i couldn’t be happier
Not gonna lie, my heart broke a little when you guys put Bigger Than The Whole Sky in the "Yet To Fathom" category. Every time I listen to this song, I start balling. Easily my favorite song from the album.
RIGHT it’s SOOOO unbelievably good
idk can someone fathom what it’s about for me? i mean i like it but it’s just not clicking for me. i like it in the way i like a lot of songs but i don’t feeeel it in the way i feel taylor songs
I had an epiphany last night thinking about how Maroon is from the aftermath of the Red album, or how it's a much fucked up shade of red (dwelling on it during midnight) and I started going back to listen to Red's album opener which is State of Grace, and I was able to form bits and pieces about how it's about Jake ++ the first verse being about hookup culture during one's early 20s and I was like WOAH
especially this part: "I'm walking fast through the traffic lights
Busy streets and busy lives
And all we know is touch and go
We are alone with our changing minds
We fall in love 'til it hurts or bleeds, or fades in time"
It was a total mindfuck because I've grown up with this song and now it takes on a whole different meaning, e.g. she never saw jake coming, and describing love as brave and wild which are not totally attached as descriptions of "good", but you coming into terms that you've chosen to be brave and wild during this time of your life, so overall state of grace is much more than it means now to me.
SOG is underrated. I love it.
You simply need to fathom mastermind!! Once I did I could not stop listening. Top 3 on the album for me now 😍

ive been fighting with my mom and labyrinth has been my therapeutic coping song.
@@katyjean862 I’m sorry you’ve been having issues with your mom, but I’m glad you have something that is therapeutic 💕
Thank you Em, for the Sweet Nothing praise! No one gives it the time of day, it’s so sweet and the fact Joe and Taylor wrote it together! 🥺💕
Can we just acknowledge how the Great War, wcs & bttws are 3 of her best, most vulnerable songs ever
"I actually really struggle to comprehend sadness" MUST BE NICE BONNY, MUST BE FREAKING NICE

Yasss the respect for Would've Could've Should've!! I love this song so much!! And your comparison to All Too well is so well placed!! Just purely because All Too Well is just 10 Minutes of epic song writing and it is 10 minutes long if not for that Would've Could've Should've would be my favourite TS song ever!!
your ranking titles are absolutely superior and iconic 😆
10 seconds in and - god I love you two, always make me smile and feel so warm inside
So glad that I found this today! I have a cold, and I’m sitting here with my baby kitty, cat, in my lap, purring :-). This made my day, so thank you very much!
I haven’t heard the 3am songs yet to give myself time with the standard album but the suspense is KILLING MEEEE 😭❤️
Wow you have amazing self-restraint! 😱 I actually prefer them to the standard songs - they are incredible!!!
It’s so fun how in this video you can either relate to Bonnie or Emily more. They true represent the two types of swiftes ✨✨✨

Hii Bonny and Emily, I love your channel so much. I always loved Taylor Swift (obviously) but ever since I've been following you, the perspective I've got on her songs and music has genuinely made me appreciate her even more. Y'all have in it's truest sense helped me celebrate her music even more. Omg your makeups are incredible, it's giving me Speak Now and Midnights vibes. IDK WHY
Top 5:
- Lavender Haze
- Anti-Hero
- Snow On The Beach
- Bejeweled

The thing you talked about that midnights feels new but old is what I’ve been feeling as well
I noticed that because there are a lot of references in the lyrics and sampled/similar sounds(LV to ITHK, OOTW und question…?, KOMH in Maroon etc) makes the songs feel kinda nostalgic and connected to me.
Like yes they are new but also the story’s in general are not new but advanced in a way
Maroon is so superior, the way I always sing along to it like I’m on tour in the car, I’m so glad you acknowledged the ‘waAs’ asdfk

i love hearing y'all talk about Taylor Swift, not many (if any) of my friends are Swifties so i don't really have a lot of people that i can talk to for hours about Taylor Swift with! you're videos are so well articulated and it really helps me get a better understanding and appreciation for various songs that i otherwise wouldn't have had and i love that! it also sometimes shifts my perspective on other songs too and honestly, thank you! i'm wishing y'all all the luck once international tickets are available cause i was SOL when it came to trying to get Chicago tickets and resell prices are *obscene* like i'm not gonna pay $720 for nosbleed seats
Love that you guys put yourself through the agony of this for us to watch and live vicariously through -- true team players. Also, you guys are both LITERALLY glowing in this video!
Love this video! So OBSESSED with this album! Can't stop listening to it!!
Omg who gave the right 😭
I honestly think it's about none of these and her first love in highschool
oooh i got a completely different idea from the ocean line. my mind IMMEDIATELY went to those photos of taylor + tom on vacation and the beach (ala the i

I didn't listen to anything but Midnights for a solid 2 weeks after it's release -- you're right that it feels like cheating! 😅

IT WAS maaaROON
I JUST WANNA STAY in that lavender HAAZE
Breath in breath through breath deep breeeeeeeatttthhhh ouuuut

Freaking love this album
What a great respite amidst all the ticket drama! Thanks, girls, for knowing just what us Swifties need! BTW...love Emily's ear rings!
Ack! Just noticed Bonny has the same ones! Love 'em.
Does anyone know where to find them? I think they bought them when they were in Paris and they're ones that Taylor wore.
I think you really have to be in the mood for it and if you are it HITS.
i still cant fathom how ive gotten used to bonny on the left and em on the right. never thought id get over it
