i think we were happy is likely about an unknown boyfriend she was seeing as she her fame was rising during debut era. he was probably from her small town and with her having to leave all the time to travel and become this mega star, she didnt have a lot of time for the relationship hence "before i had somewhere to be, back when we had all night" I also think it's likely her becoming more famous along with her management team pressuring her to focus on what could build her fame, she had to call it quits on the relationship and she regretted it and began to miss him but there was nothing she could do about it. also the "i hate those voices telling me im not in love anymore but they dont give me choices" could be her refrencing her team telling her to forget the relationship and that it wouldnt matter because she'll move on to have bigger and better things and date "better" famous people. Thats what I get from this song at least.

I’m so glad she re-recorded these as in the UK it was really hard to get hold of the Fearless Platinum Edition on CD and back then, people still weren’t downloading like they are now so I never knew the platinum songs. I remember 4 years after it released my Uni roommate (a fellow swiftie) played me the platinum version on iTunes and I found it so bizarre she knew a bunch of songs I’d never heard before. When she moved out, I never heard them again and until the re-recordings came out I completely forgot they existed let alone remember hearing them back in 2012. So I now have even more new fearless songs to love 🧡🥰

It sounds so raw and amazing which makes me think she did that and didn't care about any differences in lyrics (like the missing "baby"s and "and"s) which makes it just that much more beautiful

i think we were happy is likely about an unknown boyfriend she was seeing as she her fame was rising during debut era. he was probably from her small town and with her having to leave all the time to travel and become this mega star, she didnt have a lot of time for the relationship hence "before i had somewhere to be, back when we had all night" I also think it's likely her becoming more famous along with her management team pressuring her to focus on what could build her fame, she had to call it quits on the relationship and she regretted it and began to miss him but there was nothing she could do about it. also the "i hate those voices telling me im not in love anymore but they dont give me choices" could be her refrencing her team telling her to forget the relationship and that it wouldnt matter because she'll move on to have bigger and better things and date "better" famous people. Thats what I get from this song at least.
taylor actually brought back a lot of the original band members from the fearless era to re-record. she had amos play bass (he's still in her band and has been since the beginning), you mentioned paul, and then she brought back Caitlin her original fiddle player for that and background vocals!

I’m so glad she re-recorded these as in the UK it was really hard to get hold of the Fearless Platinum Edition on CD and back then, people still weren’t downloading like they are now so I never knew the platinum songs. I remember 4 years after it released my Uni roommate (a fellow swiftie) played me the platinum version on iTunes and I found it so bizarre she knew a bunch of songs I’d never heard before. When she moved out, I never heard them again and until the re-recordings came out I completely forgot they existed let alone remember hearing them back in 2012. So I now have even more new fearless songs to love 🧡🥰

For example, a friend of mine knew her from 1989 onwards and didnt listen to her country era just cause he is a 'pop guy' but now he is in love with fearless too, and here I was telling him 'I told you so' xD
The whole thing is just ethereal, Big Machine Records may have helped make it a phenomenon but Taylor's version made it fucking ethereal! I cried listening to fifteen. When I first listened to it I was 12 and couldn’t wait until I turned 15. And when I finally was 15, I listened to it while crying in my bed because the emotions Taylor portrayed were so accurate.
