Just received my first Surface Duo today. I have owned am iPhone, various Samsung and Nokia Android devices and even a few Windows phones. The Duo 2 is amazing and I have loved using it more than any phone I have had in a long time. I was nervous after watching so many negative reviews, but I must say that the reviewers haven't done this device justice: it is a superb experience.

I’m really sad that these negative reviewers, who only use it for half an hour are killing sales on one of the best phones out there on the market right now. Most people who buy duo 2 will use it for some weeks and scratch their heads and think, what are those guys even talking about? This is one of the best devices I’ve ever owned or used! Most people who say this, including the negative reviewers are commenting without having used it daily for a few weeks. They’re just parroting others without really knowing what they’re talking about. We have here in my home and believe me, there’s no slab phone out there that’s better than the duo, except for the camera issues. And if that’s fixed in the duo 2, best phone on the market except for the Samsung fold.

I daily drove the first Duo for over a year. Had every bug known to man. Replaced the phone twice and hung in there wanting this to work. But I bought the Z Fold 3 due to one reason alone and that is the fact that Microsoft abandoned the first Duo. No Android 11 and still constant bugs with my phone. Now I've seen constant videos on how to he Duo 2 is 🔥 and I'm happy that it is but to just abandon the people that believed and bought your product in the first place just didn't sit right with me. If LG can continue to support the discontinued LG Wing then I don't understand the idea behind abandoning your first product that wasn't properly fixed. Yeah I know... It's a niche product and I should know the consequences and blah blah blah but that still isn't an excuse. I'm sure the Duo 2 is amazing but I'll stick to what works for me now. 👍🏽

I want to say I think this is one of the best reviews I've ever seen. I have never seen anyone actually review an item for what it is instead of comparing it to items that it is not. Personally I had found that the windows phones were ahead of their time and the best phones for me I was very sad when they discontinued them. Even the current phones I have now lack compared to the windows phones I had before. I can't express how sad I was when they went away and almost did not replace with a new phone I was tempted to go phoneless. I've ordered the duo 2 and I'm very excited for it to come Although I am disappointed that it's running on android and not on windows I am not a fan of android I am even more not a fan of Apple I have an android phone only because I had to and you couldn't pay me to get Apple. Windows products have always seemed to be geared towards professionalism and and home life while including things like gaming but not focused on gaming and media. So it gets tiresome of the gaming community or the video community complaining about the Microsoft doesn't do what android or iPhone does when it's not meant to. I don't care about social media or video editing, but I do care about multitasking for work. home, and school productively.
Thank you for such a well based professional review!!!
I'd like to add. I'm not understanding the complaints about the camera bump. The Samsung notes have the bump and people seem fine with it. Hmmm?

Hands down best video on the Duo. This is almost identical to where I stand on the Duo 2. It keeps getting placed in this annoying bubble of "it's not like my iphone"
It's in a completely different realm than a standard phone. I for sure keep looking at this more as a tablet as well. Sure you could make it your one all do all phone. But you must also think of the business mindset of this device. Lots of scenarios in the business market this would be used for.

The niche user case is exactly where LG used to stand with it's screen case
LG pioneered tons of tech we take for granted today and then others perfected it, built on it and LG couldn't catch up in time, plus they just started throwing stuff and seeing what stuck
We didn't need the hand thing of the LG G8 but it was a good concept if it had worked
LG's last flagship, the LG V60, was literally one of the best phones of 2020, AMAZING battery life, a HUGE screen, the DAC and headphone jack
It's such a shame that a company that could make that kinda phone would leave the market

Finally got a duo 1 for my wife. Honestly it’s one of the most interesting and beautiful devices we’ve ever had in our home, my daughter and I keep picking it up and using it for hours when she’s not. Ignoring lots of other devices, tablets, phones, laptops. My wife’s ditched her iPhone for it, keeps getting questions and comments and compliments from friends and strangers when she’s using it outside. It’s better than most phones on the market, including iPhones, forget the bad reviews. The only issue is the camera which is pretty poor, but fixed in the 2 so I’m definitely getting the 2 at some point, maybe when price comes down a bit, as my next phone, replacing a galaxy note. Oh yeah only other issue no headphone jack and dual sim… I’m used to dual sim on my note.

I have just bought the Duo 1, at a bargain price. I know this phone got a lot of criticism when it first came out, but this is my first experience with it and I'm loving it. It truly is a marvel of engineering and Android 11 runs butter smooth. This is not a device about taking the best shots in the dark or having stabilisation when shooting video. It is far more. I think your take on the Duo is perfect. It is not just another candy bar obelisk... it is a productivity tool, that used correctly, is all that one could ask for. I've been waiting for a device like this for ages, and I'm glad I've taken the plunge. I've tested the Galaxy Fold and there was something that was not right, for my needs. But this is excellent, and is what I've been wanting for ages.

Also, this video rocks! It's insane how many reviewers are ignoring the strength of this phone and then saying stuff like "You can't lay it flat on a table!" But it's like... how many times have they laid their galaxy or iPhone on the table to use it? I've never laid a phone flat on a table and I won't with this one either. Then they'll blow an app up on both screens and complain about the crease in the middle while quickly glancing over the multitasking portion of having two full apps open side-by-side. I like how you go over all of it in a balanced way. Well done man.

Far superior to dragging apps into split screen mode with tablets or trying to switch between multiple apps to refer back to information on another screen on standard phones. After trying out both foldable screen and dual-display solution, I see no hurry to jump into the former. I checked out Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold3 a few days ago at an authorized dealer in town and I really can't accept the crease on the middle screen when unfolded. People say that you can't notice it, but I surely can feel the crease no problem at all. That is why I much prefer dual-display solution like this Surface. But because of the price, I'll keep staying with my LG V50 and its detachable DualScreen case. I'm in no hurry to replace it at the moment.

Thanks for your videos on the Duo 2, Juan. I bought one a few weeks ago and love this device. Coming from a Note 20 Ultra. Your videos have been very helpful. No complaints except for lack of customization in the launcher. I just don't think I can go back to a single screen. Even the Z Fold isn't the same. Dual screens for life!

Thank you for your refreshing review. I was excited about the MS Surface Duo when I first saw it displayed, and I have tried similar form factors on other phones (ZTE Axom M and LG G8X) and it is a solid idea! I confess, my need for a $1500 Surface Duo was not there, but I happily purchased one at $600! Then again, I am a bit of a hypocrite as my iPhone main driver is the 12 Pro Max and my Android main driver is the Samsung Z Flip 3, both hideously expensive phones in their own right. I love my MS Surface Duo for what it is: I micro, super portable laptop, that happens to be an OK smartphone.

Thank you for calling out tech influencers and holding them to account. I've unsubscribed from a lot of the big-name tech TH-camrs because they've become so 1 dimensional. Part of that is ego driven and the other part is a result of laziness. A lot of creators in the tech community are essentially the fast food franchises of the tech world - a bunch of calories with little else to norish. They seem more interested in fancy cinematics and views than investing time into learning about the tech they review.
They use a device for a week and are arrogant enough to pretend that they know enough to give it a proper review. But that would make sense since, as I have mentioned before, the device is secondary to getting views and engagement. People like Juan and Michael Fisher are a rare breed in this space. Thank you for doing what you do👍🏿

There are a few out there that are "living" their gadgets more. Like my pal TK Bay, I love the whole crew with Gadget Goddess, Barry Johnson, Tech King Mike, Hollaturboi, Bionic Scoop, EZ Computer Solutions. There are some solid and consistent reviewers out there, but you gotta work past the algorithm to find them.

I love my Surface Pro 4. Yes, Pro 4. I have no need for a higher powered device on the go and so haven't upgraded. Their hardware is fantastic, and I fully welcome this. I really liked the first one - I just couldn't justify that kind of expense on any mobile device.
I think the missteps for me are those curved in screens, and the need to unfold to take photos.
But for a genuine, dual screen in your pocket, this thing looks like the king. I really hope we get a 3, 4 and more. Keep upsetting the folding status quo Microsoft!

I think reviewers reviewing the duo 2 from a single screen perspective is a major issue. Many of them asked, "who is this for?!" If you don't know what this device is for, it's probably not for you. I love it more than pretty much any electronic device and certainly any phone that I've ever used.

I really like the first gen Microsoft surface duo because there are no camera bump to worry about. Really like the multi tasking feature it offers without having to worry about the camera being damaged. I'm not fussy about pic quality. Just want a clear pic does not need to be crisp to see what it is. Camera bumps are so annoying and make everything lopsided and that is inconvenient!

Android 12L is going to be a GAME CHANGER for this device. This literally fits my lifestyle. I'm not concerned about camera quality, I carry my Sony camera everywhere I go. Plus my Galaxy Note 20 Ultra is a camera beast so I'd snap with one of those 2 anyway. It's got use cases for dual screened productivity apps, which is literally what I need it for.
