Tag 1 is definitely my favorite game from the older ones, you can use T2 characters in T3 gameplay, like a big celebration of the original trilogy.

    7:40 about the longer endings:
The original Tekken Tag Tournament for Arcade ran on a modified PlayStation 1 board.
Similar to how the arcade version of Soul Calibur did.
Therefore, when the game got ported to the PlayStation 2, again, similar to how Soul Calibur got a graphical boost when ported to the Sega Dreamcast, so too did Tekken Tag Tournament, but.... unlike the limited disc space a Sega Dreamcast game had due the console using CD based software, the Playstation 2 has the ability to run DVD discs.
However, because TTT was an arcade port, they simply didn't bother moving said game to an actual DVD....so the PS2 version of TTT despite having improved graphics, was still on a CD format.
This means the disc space was limited.
Has this game been put on an actual DVD, there would have been way more than enough room to add other things like longer endings or even full FMV ones.
I mean, they added the Tekken Bowl so there already was that.
And in the PS3 remastered rerelease of TTT, notice it not only had another game thrown in there, but a whole movie on top of that.
And look at all the stuff they were able to cram into Tekken 5: three unlockable arcade titles, and a whole action RPG mode Devil Within.
So yeah they could have added more but I feel they rushed it out in favor of timing it for the launch release of the PS2, while a game like Dead or Alive 2 Hardcore felt more refined in that sense due to the fact Hardcore was already the third installment of DoA2, as the original DoA2 was actually rushed out for the Dreamcast.
Itagaki was tricked into lending out a beta copy to a higher up producer at Namco who said his son wanted to try it then he went and had the game release off that beta which pissed Itagaki off so they reconciled later with the JPN only Limited Edition release also on Dreamcast, and then an even more updated release aka Hardcore, on PS2.

This makes sense. It was one of the first games I got shortly after the PS2 launch. You just reminded me of the early purple PS2 discs before they were made on DVDs.

And now that last week I finally bought an MX4SIO memory card for PS2 which alongside it's FMCB memory card loader, it's been a royal pain in the ass to get all those early PS2 purple disc games to run on them as I have to individually convert them all (which are CD based Bin and Cue files) to DVD Issue so that they can run off either them to SD or USB flash drives I put them on.
Not to mention my original TTT disc doesn't even like to run properly due to old age and it's CD format being more inclined to ruin than the much more sturdy PS2 DVDs.
I notice this can also be a problem with old GameCube games with their disc decay because Nintendo really didn't want to adhere to proper DVD technology so they made their own type which was inferior..
I still have yet to test out this one TTT file it's a 2.00 file vs the standard 1.00. I'm guessing it was a Greatest Hits version or something? Or an updated release via wonder if there was any differences..🤔

Tekken Tag 1 just has that vibe that I can't help but love. It is pretty much an update of Tekken 3, sure, but it just has that signature early PS2 feel with the graphics and soundtrack. And it is REALLY cool to know that Heihachi's stage is actually the rubble remains of what transpired in Jin's ending in Tekken 3. That's a really great detail.

    • @shadosassins
      @shadosassins  15 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

The reason you "misremembered" what T3 looked like compared to what TTT1 looked like, is because the arcade version was actually an upgraded version of T3 with the same graphics. It just added T2 characters and of course the tag function.

Personally, I came to the conclusion that TTT1 is one of or is my favorite Tekken game of all time. Definitely the most nostalgic to me. It is probably my favorite gaming OST of all time. And like you mentioned, Tekken 3 is often considered to be the best (which I understand why because I throughly enjoyed that game as well). But how is TTT1 not, when it’s a more polished Tekken 3? The characters have more detailed moves while still having their signature moves. The movements are smoother and a bit more responsive making it easier to pull off combos. This game is an absolute masterpiece🙌🏾

the fist day on the road we stopped at a store and they had a ps2 version of tekken tag so i bought it, i remember my mom saying, why did you buy this you won't beable to play it for another 2 weeks, its a waste of your money that you saved up for the holiday, i think i was 12 at the time

Nice video man. My only gripe with the game, excluding the uhhh "balancing", is the compressed audio files. Tekken 2 had crystal clear audio, T3 had this compressed fuzzy quality to it. This continued with Tag 1, with some Tekken 2 characters suffering this same effect. Bruce has his normal voice, Kazuya has this annoying sped up and fuzzy voice, as does Jack 2 and others. Otherwise, that's how good this game was. I really liked the art direction to, it's very much 90s Tekken style, before the T4 anime overhaul

I liked tag1 because it was simple, its tekken with a 2 fighter system. tag2 is technically better due to overall appeal, its got tons of stages, all the characters you want and more, soundtracks from previous games, great music for its own soundtrack and a better version of unknown with better explanation for who she is. my biggest gripe with that game though was that its too hard. tag2 was all about juggling, players that have mastered the game can juggle you from beginning to end due to the games mechanics. every move in that game sends you bouncing from the ground like a basketball, making juggling easy for pro gamers. tag 2 was definitely not casual friendly , tag1 however was a causal friendly game.

You can still totally play a version of Tag1 that looks just like Tekken 3 if you desire it. Look for the arcade version. I emulated it and streamed it once. Same engine, I believe... but the part that sucks about it is you will not have the arranged version of the soundtrack like the one that its defaulted to on the PS2. Really, just seeing the Tekken 2 characters in Teklen 3s style is an actual treat. You can at least find videos on TH-cam if you don't emulate.
