I'm from central Saskatchewan Canada...when I was 20,I drove my brother in-laws 70ish Chevy three on the tree, for a couple of days before I realized it had other gears.😔🙄😊 Wasn't bad I took it slow. But I guess I had it in second gear, cause it took some finessing to get going, lol! I cut down a tree for my parents neighbor and had to haul it away. Later when I was 30 something,I bought a 67 Chevy long box fleet side. Three on the tree. Is what I've only called them, transmissions.for a $100 bucks and I didn't have to do a thing to it, just got in and drove. 😃And actually knew how to shift it.lol! Love them old trucks.
RICK: I was a locksmith and had 4 rings of those keys. They are made at half width of standard keys The trick to those is they are also cut at half steps so a locksmith would take the key thats found to work, then start a progressive series of cuts to make the actual key for the lock. Took time, but they always worked. Good for 1935 to 1979 gm locks

Hi Rick, yeah we say 3 on the tree over the pond here in Ol England too👍🏻 Awesome video, love it! The General is in full swing there! Take it easy you guys
Can't wait for part 2! I love the , also known as "tree on the tree". I had a 64 Falcon like that with non-synchro first gear. This truck is solid enough to drive as is. Get running, throw some plywood down in the bed, and you got a shop truck! It will sell fast. Hope you pick another 55-59 truck with patina, to keep and take us for "rides" after you finish the building.
That power cable feather type was from old farm tractors also rear end that should be 355 to 390 to 409 for that year and Torque take too! Also always like old truck made back then to and like that Air Filter for carb usually there oil bath round one too! Excellent Video to!
Neat find Rick luv those 55-59 2nd Series GM trucks especially ones with big window I tried buy one 59 stepside with minor rust back in 03 guy didn't want sell.
I suspect that if you have enough of them, it isn't hard to find keys to fit those old GM products. When I was a kid just out of high school I worked at a local hardware store the owner of which had a 1963 Cadillac whose key worked in one of his employee's 1958 Chevy. I had a '57 Chevy V8 truck in 1970 with a 3 speed that the previous owner converted to a floor shift. Love your channel and seeing these old workhorses. Brings back a lot of memories.

He 3 owner from his Grandpa bought new in 1957 !
All Right...a road trip!! Love your road trips, especially when you you show the scenery (Mt. Hood), a true beauty to see (we got hills in Michigan but no REAL mountains). A car guy must have named it...(Mt. Hood?) Lol....glad ya got'eer home, with the inspection completed and certified, now you can get to work. Have a wonderfilled Christmas and a Great New Year!! I believe you about the first key fitting. I lived upstate NY for 3 years, on our property was an abandoned '58 Chevy Delray. Rotted beyond repair but, we had keys to it. A neighbor inherited, yes, a '58 Chevy Belair BUT, the keys to that car went missing. The keys from our derelict worked in their car. They can only make some many patterns for keys. Rick, used motor oil beats no motor oil. As you say, you'll replace it soon anyways..
We had the plain Jane '57 Chev pickup, 6 cylinder ON the tree, small window. Yes, North east, 3 on the tree... I hope Lou is doing better...Great seeing, Jaime??? My spelling/ memory, has issues now and then. I was built in '56, so parts are rare for me, hehehe. Stay well y' all! Love the country shots!!
@@ClassicTruckRescue Rick, I live on Long Island NY. I live in the Eastern portion known as the Pine Barrens. I'm grateful that you and your neighbors survived the bad fire.... That’s pretty much the same procedure that I used on my 1953 GMC one ton flat bed. Before I turned it over I Checked the radiator again and noticed I couldn’t see any water and pulled the dip stick and there it was. You know what that means. It had the original 235 straight 6 cyclinder engine, but anyway I decided to sell it because I didn’t want to rebuild the engine. And also Rick, I have always heard it called a three on the tree.
Got a kick out of you bringing up my comment on the 3 on the tree and did notice a lot of other viewers agreed with me . What is the plans for living quarters ? Still living in the 5th wheel and plan on another winter in there ?
Most of my money this month is already put in place. But if you still have this truck in January, I would like to have it for real. And I'm way in Texas.
A friend long ago had a ring of Ford 5 cut dual ignition keys (used from 1965 til about 1990 on some models like the Crown Vic). If you could get into a car, one of those keys would work in the ignition. We bought many cars without keys then had keys made. Back in about 1982, I had a 78 Mustang that I drove out of state to visit family. I locked the keys in it shortly before I left for home. I tried a slim Jim and a coat hanger for about an hour. A neighbor wandered over to see what was going on and offered up a couple of random Ford keys to try. The door key for his new Crown Vic opened my door.
I've noticed nowadays you don't see column shift manual transmissions even some column shift automatic chevy suburban now has push button transmission or bench front seat in trucks or suvs.
I had a three on the tree my dad had a few three on the tree Chevy. My vote is three on the tree. Illinois here. Good to see Jamie. Sure hope you folks are doing ok. I'm a 57 model myself and I love that old truck.
Just as you were about to know if it fires or not, haha. It appears to have been worked on before, so i imagine it is going to make some noise, just how much suppose have to wait for part 2.. Cheers

Seeing the breather/oil filler on that engine reminded me of the time I almost got hit in the head by one. I was helping a guy jump start his car. Didn't know how many times He tried to start it before I came to help. Should have checked the oil before jumping it. There was so much gas in the oil that when it started, it ignited the fumes in the oil pan. That fired the breather cap off the hood and just missed my head. It also tried to rip the valve covers off. That would have really hurt because the breather cap was really moving.
Hey Rick I'm happy to see that all is well!! Rick I got an 2006 F-150 that's giving me all kinds of grief!! My truck has a great meaning behind it!! Anyway I was wondering is there any way possible I can purchase and inspector truck general sticker?
