  • #classictruckrescue #classictrucks #classictruckranch Classic Truck Rescue goes after a 1949 Studebaker Short Bed Pickup with Amazing Original Patina for a potential shop truck. While we're there, we film Roger's collection of vintage tractors that have been a landmark just-off I-5 in Oregon for decades. An update on the progress of clearing out the space where the "Shop in a box" will go.

Hi Rick, I truly appreciate all the hard work you go to rescuing all these old trucks and so forth. When ever I see derelict tractors like those in this video I tend to want them all. My dad used to say to me; "Boy, you've got a champagne appetite with a beer income," and you know, he was right. You're doing a bang up job rescuing all these old vehicles from the past. Have a blessed day, Jay

I for one appreciate you traipsing around in the rain to show us Roger's collection of old tractors as I love stuff like that. You and I seem to have the same enjoyment only I don't have your restoration skills. I'm a retired 15 employee Machine Shop owner with back ground in maintenance of Steel Mill equipment, machining & fabrication: mig tig arc, however I am not good at mig welding like I am the other two. Hence I enjoy anything to do with tractors, trucks, and other equipment.

I have always envied anyone who has access to a fully-equipped machine shop and the needed skills to do machine work. If everyone building a car or truck had this resource, the builds would be greatly enhanced. Thanks Fer Watchin'. -Rick

hey rick thanks for doing an old studebaker pickup truck. my grandpa always used them for his construction company up until he retired in nineteen seventy two. i used to ride with him in an old dark green truck just like this one back in the late 60's that was spotless. so i know what they look like when brand new. it's very rare to see a 20 year old truck with out a ding, dent or scratch on it, but grandpa always seemed to find them from the 1940's and a couple from the 50's. he always passed them down to my dad, so i've riden in many. have a great day rick....

These Studebaker trucks have a unique styling that stayed pretty much the same for a long stretch. Wether it gets restored or used for parts it was worth saving.

I agree Lee. I do have to admit something though. I get a lot of comments from people who like one brand better than all others. I have always said its okay (and even normal) to like one brand more than others, but that we should respect the fact that other people have different tastes in trucks and we should all just be friends and appreciate our old trucks together. I purposely bought a couple Fords recently to demonstrate that I do love all old trucks. I "Prefer" Chevy and GMC trucks, but have always liked different makes and models of anything automotive. So I thought it would be a good statement to buy a Studebaker. I started looking for one several months ago and actually found the one in the video over a month ago. I sent a total of four or five messages over a three week period expressing an interest in buying the truck, but got no response and finally gave up on it. Then Jeff gave me a call out of the blue and asked if I was still interested. The rest is history. Thanks Fer Watchin'. -Rick

I remember when I was 5 or 6 years old back in the mid 60's, my dad bought an old Studebaker pickup from a tow company auction. He got it running, and with him sitting next to me or me on his lap so he can operate the clutch, he let me drive that thing in the empty lot next to our house. That was the greatest thing for a little kid like me to do. I think he got it so that I can mess around with it, learning how to use tools to take things apart off of it. That is probably what got me starting on fixing things on my own vehicles. I will always have a soft spot for Studebaker pickups.

And than all you had to do to get your trailer ready so you folks could move out to the ranch, and all the roads and your elec. you put in to the ranch. I just want you to know I really enjoy all the videos. And I wish you the best and my god bless you and your wife and keep up the great work

Thank you Gary. Sometimes people find our channel and are not aware of the hand we were dealt a year and a half ago. We have worked hard though and I feel we have made great progress. I want nothing more than to have a nice, dry organized shop (Doesn't even have to be warm, just dry) so I can get back to building trucks. For now I am happy and thankful to be able to provide projects and parts for people. It gives me the opportunity to do what I love and earn an honest living to be able to keep building and moving forward. Thanks for the encouragement (It really does help) and as always, Thanks Fer Watchin'. -Rick

That Studebaker sure is one pretty truck! I like the looks of several years of Ford pickups from the late forties through early/mid 50s. I had forgotten about the Studebaker pickup though. I know I've seen some before. I think I like it so much because it reminds me of cars from when I grew up, the 1960s, with headlights either side of the grill. Now I have to look up the Internationals from back then. I think some are similar. Thanks for the video, despite the lousy weather. P.S. When I saw the empty engine bay, I was thinking like Les Paul - Hot rod truck.

My uncle had A 49' Studebaker back in the late 50's to the mid 60' s. unfortunately it was sold at auction along with my father's 52' Starlite Coupe ( also A Studebaker) A young moron cousin rolled the Starlite into A creek and almost killed himself!
I was only 14 when my grandfather's estate auction took place so I was out of luck buying any of his tractors ( Ford 8n, John Deere A, John Deere B and some other's I can't remember) or his 39' Packard. I do have A 56' Farmall 400 I'm working on but as this model was only made for 3 year's part's are made out of Unabtanium!!

Interesting video, I like the old tractors too, and the Studebaker is awesome! I have always loved old cars and old trucks, but I have never been able to actually afford one!!! Even now watching your video I have to wonder what you sell old trucks for, but honestly "who cares?" because I still could never afford one!!! And another thing too is nobody in my life has ever understood my interest in old cars and trucks either!! In fact when I told others back in the 1970s that there was money to be made by buying and selling old vehicles everybody laughed at me and told me I was stupid!!! In fact when I asked my parents to take welding class they insisted I take electronics instead which has a career choice never paid me snot either!!!! So ultimately I gave up on my dreams of old vehicles many years ago, but I can still watch videos about them now that I have survived a heart attack and a stroke, and can no longer drive!!! And still many of those same people (including my family) tell me that anything I am into is stupid or crazy or both!! So again who cares??? Certainly not me anymore about much of anything!! But it was still a nice video to see an ol' '49 Studebaker just the same even though my "someday" dreams have completely slipped away from me!

Greg, I'm sorry to hear about the setbacks and negativity you have endured. The old car hobby has lots of room for people to enjoy different aspects of without having to put out the financial and labor costs involved with a restoration or build. Many car shows are held in venues that make them inexpensive or even free to attend. Local car clubs are always looking for people to help out. There are people on the internet looking to trade work. Perhaps your skills with electronics could be traded for work on an old project of your own. I have faced a lot of negativity in my life as well. I have learned that when people pile a bunch of "You Can't do it" upon my shoulders, I perform some of my most amazing displays of "Just watch me". If that makes sense. Thanks Fer Watchin'. -Rick

Before you build your home close to that creek, check out Hurricane Agnes in 1972. I saw places that were big and far away from creeks underwater. It'was like 10 feet over flood stage in my area, last flood like that was 40 years ago. Any place that was near a creek or river was under water.

if I where a fella with a few extra bucks I'd have that stude... he's got a whole other life left in him yet, to bad his engine and Trans are gone. As far as your shipping container shop goes, I've always wanted to have two spread out 35 or 40 feet and have some trusses made to cover the middle, and use one container as an office and one as a tool crib pour some concrete in the middle build a waste oil burner a add a big hanger style door. Bob's your uncle, but that's only if I had the cash.

U need that John Deere at the end of the row since Pumpkin is not too good. I used to plow with one just like that, was a 60 series and was one tough tractor, even had power steering and double stacks because it has a diesel engine started by a gas engine. Thanks for getting wet for us. Those old Farmall tractors were good too but not as good at the deere.

Rick that old Studebaker truck is as old as me, born 1949, and like me has a fair amount of rust going on (painful joints) but unlike me he/she can be repaired, are you planning on rebuilding to keep or sell on.
Another thing I noticed as you took Steve along to pick it up, I take it you went between Mon - Fri as Jamie was not there, probably had to stay behind to drive the school bus.
Jamie if that's the way it went but your weekends are free, remind Rick that now and again that weekend collections, floats your boat.
Sorry Rick Just sayin! I know you will wherever possible.

Rick, with you saying the second tractor in the row in the open was a Ford, I thought it was a Ferguson (see my post in the other video on them you posted) made me curious as too, did Ford or Ferguson copy each others designs as they looked so much alike, so I did some research and hears what I found out.
The Ford model 9N tractor was introduced in mid-year 1939 as a joint venture after a handshake agreement between Henry Ford and Harry Ferguson. Commonly known as the Ford - Ferguson tractor, Harry Ferguson designed the 3 point hitch and hydraulic system while Ford's engineers designed and built the tractor that made it all work together. The 9 was for the year, 1939, and N was Ford's designation for tractor. The original price was $585.
Henry Ford II, Ford's grandson, ended the famous handshake deal on 30 June 1947, following unsuccessful negotiations with Ferguson, but continued to produce a tractor, the 8N, incorporating Ferguson's inventions, the patents on almost all of which had not yet expired, and Ferguson was left without a tractor to sell in North America. Ferguson's reaction was a lawsuit demanding compensation for damage to his business and for Ford's illegal use of his designs, and thus ended the allegiance of those two great men.
The case was settled out of court in April 1952 for just over $9 million, the court case cost him (Ferguson) about half of that and a great deal of stress and ill health, such a shame it ended this way.
