I think it's about time to stop calling those app features "advanced" and to start calling them standard features because at this point nobody should be releasing a robot vacuum without these.
I appreciate your most thorough vacuum reviews. Based on them I’ve purchased the q5. I did come across what I believe is an important missed ‘con’. The q5 and q5+ do not incorporate a HEPA filter to prevent the vacuum from expelling fine particles from the exhaust while cleaning. For people with allergies and air quality in general I think this would be appreciated in your ‘Pros and cons’. Would you consider adding an exhaust test on future (and perhaps past models)?
Another stellar review! I personally like this one. Aside from the brush/ hair issue, it has everything I would be looking for in such a vacuum. I can say, after saying many times here, I'm just not lazy enough yet to not do my own vacuuming - but having 6 cats shedding their winter coats at once would tempt me at this time to have a robo run once a day until this phase of shedding is over. I'm still not sure it would justify the price for once a year. I'd likely grow more dependant on it having got one for that reason/ season. It's also the windy season here in the desert of NM, so dust is an issue. I'll check out the price and see. Maybe... maybe Robo... thank you VW for all your hard work! Smiles and blessings...
Simply an excellent review. I just bought the Q5 Max+ because of Amazon Prime Day ($299) -- and although I would have been interested in a more current / adv feature model of Roborock, I really wanted a simple model & NOT the mopping. Appreciated that you mentioned things like pet hair pickup as I vacuum *every* day w/gas-forced air heating/cooling (blows dust, etc around) AND having 3 cats. My plan is to run RR every other day at first. I also liked that you showed video / animated clips of how RR moves about a room. App comments give me confidence that this will be easy to setup & use. Was also wondering how well it did emptying at the doc (a feature I wanted in a robo vacuum)... thx for sharing how that works. I have about 1400 sqft of 1st floor cleaning for RR to tackle -- mostly wood flooring, but also a 400 sqft area of carpet. Will see how well it transitions. Also, thk you for mentioning the roller brush. Helpful that RR kept some compatibility between models so different brushes can be used. Kudos, again, on a very helpful review.
Did you know that this vacuum the roborock q5 max+ can mop too? I just purchased for $277.00 it's running out of stuck super fast. You just have to purchased the mop attachment and it's freaking nice cuz it's clean very well. It's might not have its own container of water but have a 5l small container that you can add enough water and will last a few times depending how often you use I really love t for the price
We got it and have had it for a few weeks so far, loving it compared to our old Roborock S5. Mainly wanted it for the self-emptying dock. Was tired of emptying the S5 manually daily (2 dogs)... So far we haven't even had to empty the dock yet surprisingly - has been a big convenience factor for us.
I guess that's two Spitz? We have a Husky and an Obese cat that's still fairly active. We have the S5Max that we purchased back in 2019, I believe? It was when they were first released and it's still going strong. Would be nice to have a self-emptying dock and the larger dustbin since we don't use the mop on the Max at all (that mop is pretty trash, honestly). I think the Q5[+] is probably going to be our next purchase. The Pa rating on the S5Max is certainly great for carpets and solid floors already. Can't imagine the 2700 Pa!

Great review. I was wondering what the differences were between the Roborock S series and the Q series. Hopefully you can review the Q7 series as well. The Q5 sounds very similar to the S4 max with an added auto empty dock. The S4 Max is a great bot if you don't need the mop feature.
I love my Roborock S4 max which I learned about after watching your videos last year! I wish Roborock had a trade in program or something since I would love to upgrade to a model with the auto empty bin or just if I want to upgrade in general I don’t have to worry about selling my current one off
Thank you for all your in depth quality reviews! Just ordered this Q5+ and seems like a reliable no frills option to help keep the house cleaner with less work on my part!
FWIW, you do NOT need the app. I set ours up according to the large guide card, plugged it in to charge, and turned it on the next day. It found its way around very nicely, including detecting the 6” step between two areas of house. Watch for stray cables that it can catch, and loose rugs. In the room with both a tile floor and 1/2” high carpet, it easily crosses from one part to the other multiple times, with no trouble at all, increasing power automatically when it’s on the carpet. There are probably useful features and settings in the app, but I have yet to even download it. With two dogs and plenty of dirt in the yard for them to track in, we run the Q5 daily, and have been extremely pleased with this unit.
It sounds like the Q5 cleans really well and it's interesting to compare the Q series specs with the specs of Roborock's S series. In the S series, the robot that doesn't have the mop is the S4 Max which I have, it's a great bot for sure. I can't help but wonder if Roborock is planning on discontinuing some of the older bots in the S series. If you look at the specs on the Q5, they are somewhat better than the S4 Max and the Q5 is slightly more expensive. It has a few things that the S4 Max does not have, it's slightly more powerful, it supports an auto empty dock and it has the quick mapping feature. From what I can tell there is nothing that the S4 Max has that the Q5 does not have which makes me wonder if Roborock will discontinue the S4 Max. Based on the specs for the Q7, it sounds similar to what the S5 and S6 were although the Q7 is slightly more powerful and also has the mop feature which I think is gravity fed rather than electronicly controlled. Also the Q7 supports an auto empty dock which the S5 and S6 don't support. The Q7 max sounds like an upgraded S5 Max, it has much more power and an electronicly controlled water tank for the mop and also supports an auto empty dock. Again, I don't see anything that the S5 Max has that the Q7 Max does not. Even though the Q series is supposed to be Roborock's mid range models, the specs are better in some ways than the older S series bots which again makes me wonder if Roborock will discontinue these. If they did, you would then have the Q5 for the bot without the mop feature, the Q7 for a robot with vacuuming and basic mopping, the Q7 max for more power and an electronicly controlled water tank, the s7 that has the vibrating mop and the autolift feature for the mop, and finally the S7 Max V that has all the bells and whistles. Based on the specs of the Q5, Q7 and Q7 Max, I can't see any reason to purchase the S4 Max, S5, S5 Max, S6 or S6 pure any longer unless I'm missing something that these bots have that the Q series doesn't.
Would you recommend this or the J7+? I mainly have carpet. My dog sheds a good amount, but she has never pooped inside, so the camera on the J7+ would just be a bonus. More concerned about which will clean up her hair better. Thanks!

I’ve got a Narwal and a Deebot for different floors in my house. I’m thinking about getting this one for the garage. No need for a mop and it’ll just keep dust and debris down, from whenever the garage door is left open.
I like my roborock S4 because it doesn't have a mop. For people who don't wear shoes indoors, you rarely need a mop on hard surface, and less maintenance to worry about. So if the S4 breaks, I will probably consider this one.
No shoes indoors and no pets here, but still I mop once a week with my S7 MaxV (before I did it with S5 Max). You can clearly see the mop is dirty. Not dirty enough to warrant a self-cleaning dock though, but dirty enough that I'm glad I did mop. So I went with the Plus dock.
Hello!! Great Review.. One question do you know if the auto dock of the Q5 is compatible with the roborock S7? I think you mention that the Q5 is compatible with the auto dock of the S7 but viceversa is the same?
is the (wet) mopping suitable/recommended for wood floor? I really like the flagship, but I have a natural real wood not sealed hard floor. the producer says no wet cleaning whatsoever. I guess then this variant without the mop is a win win?
@@VacuumWars thanks for the reply, but sounds weird. i am sure they want to be extra safe, but how can i keep it clean just with vacuuming? anyway, have you done any mop tests on real oak floor?
Since you mention it in most robot vac videos with an auto-empty base, wouldn't it make sense to highlight which auto-empty avoids overstuffing their bins and clogging the base? Namely the Roomba's with clean bases as they have sensors in their bins that detect when they're full and go back to empty and then resume.
there's no other vacuum that has that sensor since it's patented by iRobot. Anyway it's a bit of edge case since it's rare for people to fill up a 400ml bin with dirt in one pass. People with that problem run the robot vacuum twice a day, as mentioned on the video, which you should have watched
That brush roll is amazing against hair and pet fur. I know it because my Roborock S4 has it and I have not one but two cats (one of them has long hair). I don't miss the mop either.
Tiffany, I am very interested in RoboRock but when I click on any of the links you provided, it takes me to a different set of TH-camrs doing reviews. I assume you make a small commission on this and being a fellow real estate person (RE Brat tho - family career, not mine) I am sensitive to commissions going to whomever referred me. Do you have a direct link to where we should purchase this from?
Doesn't the new Q5 also include the new upgraded laser (PreciSense Precision Lidar) that does 3D mapping? And an app upgrade to integrate furniture? They show it in the ad.
Mr Vacuum wars, Im currently searching for a robo vacuum that doesn't have mop fearure but really good for carpet vacuum with a lot of hair. What will you recommend?
I really appreciate your work you are the best vacuum reviewer. I’m having a hard time to choose between those Vacuum. Which one would you recommend by order from best to lower for most carpet floor and all around the same price. Wyze, i3 Evo, Roborock Q5 or S5 Max.
Ordered the plain Q5 for $320, super excited! I'm curious how its carpet cleaning capabilities differ when comparing the default brushroll to the rubber one. As someone who is bald and has no pets, if tangles are the only real difference then I won't replace it until the original brush wears out, but if the rubber roll makes it better with deep cleaning carpet then I'd want to switch. Any insight?
I believe it is actually the opposite where the provided brush hole does better with deep carpets versus the Rubber One and the higher end robots compensate for that deficiency by having higher suction.
My perfect robot vacuum would be a Roborock with twin side brushes, their most powerful motor, BAGLESS auto empty dock, no mopping module and smart obstacle avoidance.
Preach. Right now I think the best value non mop you get is the roomba j7+ with its obstacle avoidance. Also much superior carpet cleaning but that's only due to its patented dual brush design which is set to expire in 2023. Only thing we need is bagless to be the norm
@@orad23 I had the J7+ when it was released and it was crap, I sent it back after 2 weeks. It couldn't clean my small 2 bed flat on one charge, it's navigation was terrible and the obstacle avoidance wasn't anything to write home about. I bought an Ecovacs T8 TruDetect with laser obstacle avoidance which is much more effective than the camera based J7+. However even this is not as good as my Roborock S4 navigation wise. My Ecovacs sometimes gets confused when it's asked to clean certain rooms or it will go in circles before crossing a threshold. I've owned some cheaper models too and nothing comes close to Roborock for overall performance and ease of use in my hands on experience.
@@sbomorse think the J7+ got better over time. I do prefer lidar but I see the benefits of vslam and more longevity. Obstacle avoidance is always being worked on so hopefully we can get an a good value roborock obstacle avoidance self empty bagless soon. Not sure how aggressive dual brushes are but I'm sure it's not much stronger than a normal vacuum
Hi, is there any video coming up soon featuring how the lupe is holding up on 2022? I'm looking to buy one, but am curious to how it's holding up and the noise level
How does this 'Pure' dock compare to the S7 dock in terms of suction/emptying ability? Any other pros/cons to either that you've noticed? Since both docks seem to work on the Q-series vacuums (so presumably the S7s as well), wondering if the newer dock is any improvement.
I think that the q5 is the same one as the q7, but the first one for the US market and the second one for the UE. Can u compare the q5 with the other Roborock S series? And with some of the equivalent Roombas? Thanks! Love your channel (from Spain!!)
I’ll probably get this vacuum next. I’m still using my S4 and this feels like an upgraded version of it essentially. Don’t need mopping. One thing…isn’t it true that the roller with the bristles, like what’s included on the Q5, is better for carpet deep cleaning versus the all rubber roller?
a few factors can come into play for performance on carpet. This one did well, but the Roombas do well on carpet with their unique system too - th-cam.com/video/s35ukmkxCV8/w-d-xo.html
The Max series of Roborocks had a lot of issues with stalling bristled brushes which was explained by the company as some sort of protection for the motors. So the bristled brushes would not work well on medium pile carpets. The S7 got away from this with the all rubber roller and I'd be interested to see if the Q5 has found a way around this with the old style brush.

@VacuumWars "the Q5 is compatible with the new style rollers": the new style rollers (no bristles) severely scratches delicate floors (wood, vinyl, etc). this is why i bought an S5 Max even though the S7 was available at the time. (at the time i was also told that the S5 Max rollers do not fit well in the S7, which finalized my decision.) so if the Q5 takes S7 rollers according to your video, does this mean the S7 takes the Q5 rollers too? it would be great if it did, the S7 is really good except for floor scratching. could you test this? are Q5 and S5 Max rollers the same part? thank you so much!
Good review and promising device to replace the S5, which I've had for many years. Hardly used the mop on that thing outside of just testing it a couple of times. It's such a hassle to set up with rugs and stuff it's hardly worth it. Faster to mop by hand.
It looks like what I said in the previous comment might be true, the S4 Max is no longer showing as one of the bots on Roborock's store page so the Q5 will probably take its place in Roborock's line up. And why not? The S4 Max is a great bot, I love mine but the Q5 does have some upgrades over the S4 Max, it has slightly more power, support for an auto empty dock, 3D mapping and the quick mapping feature.
Hey Chris, can you start mentioning when any control app requires an account with the manufacturer? Or if that's too normal, then when they do not? I don't care to serve up all my usage and house layout data to the cloud and manufacturers, and I don't want to allow their equipment to penetrate my home security, so this app connection method really matters to me. Can you comment and/or compare these features when you compare intelligent vacuums?
What happens if your bin is full mid clean? I know the battery gets low it will go back and charge itself. But what happens if the bin is full mid clean?
Man 699USD for it's "stripped down" model?? Crazy. I spent 600aud for my s5 and it's still doing a bang up job today after over 3 years. Sure it doesn't have auto empty but it's just part of my routine.
I think the price of 699 is too expensive, because he can't Obstacle Avoidance. If so, why don't I buy viomi or dreametech. At the same price, I will choose one that can avoid obstacles.🤔
In the same price range you can find the cecotec conga 8090 that have all functions of the S7 for half the price! Could you please make a video about it? Or about any conga
How does this work for people with pets? More so if they vomit on the floor, will it detect the mess or will it go over it and spread it throughout the house?
So, the new bags for the auto empty bin. How do I empty them, besides spending time forcing the dirt/hair out of the little hole? Am I missing a zipper or something?
@dax_megathor479 I found an answer. I bought 3 REUSABLE bags (with zippers 😊) on Amazon. It was $16.99 for the 3 3. Since they have zippers, id imagine these bags that I bought will last some years. I dont know why I'd ever need to get rid of one unless it gets ripped. There are plenty of options on Amazon. I have a Q5 Pro. I bought 2.7L bags for the Q7/Q8 and they work just fine for the Q5. If it helps you, I searched "Chikixson Reusable Bags - Roborock". You probably be fine with any of the foreign brands but that's what I used

I got my Q5 plus yesterday and it’s great. I just have one problem and that’s that it does an empty partially through the cleaning process because I have a big house so it’ll get full fast and it sucks to have to manually push the home button for to go back in empty. Does anybody have any solutions?
did you watch the video? the score is 84 for the brush roller vs 83 for the rubber roller on carpet deep cleaning, so no, there's barely any difference in performance. And yes, it fits both rollers in both, which is also in the video.
@@xeon2k8 I did. Chill. He tried the rubber brush in the Q5 but not the brush in the S7. The rubber brush has trouble removing hair from deeper carpet in my home.
No argument from me that Roborocks are very good - especially with navigation. I can't wait until the S7 Max V Ultra Super Premium Advanced Platinum whatever is available in the US. A mopping robot that cleans its mop pad with Roborock navigation would be great. The Bravajet M6 I use can barely figure out how to navigate off its own doc.

The Samsung Jetbot does also that, but I don't think it's widely known.
Hi can you ever reviewed steamers? Idk if the Dupray steam cleaner is worth it, or if I should just get a Bissell steamer for 1/3rd the price. 🤔
That brush roll is amazing against hair and pet fur. I know it because my Roborock S4 has it and I have not one but two cats (one of them has long hair). I don't miss the mop either.
the rubber roller from S7 is better for hairs. As mentioned on the video
They show it in the ad.
no it doesnt
Check their homepage and see for yourself. I just checked and can confirm these new features.
yes, it does. Though I like better the regular map vs the 3D mapping.
Mr Vacuum wars, Im currently searching for a robo vacuum that doesn't have mop fearure but really good for carpet vacuum with a lot of hair. What will you recommend?
Would you choose this over the eufy L60 Robot Vacuum Cleaner with Self Empty Station?
I really appreciate your work you are the best vacuum reviewer. I’m having a hard time to choose between those Vacuum. Which one would you recommend by order from best to lower for most carpet floor and all around the same price. Wyze, i3 Evo, Roborock Q5 or S5 Max.
Would like your feedback whether or not you feel the Q5 transitions well from/to different floor types that and slightly higher. Thx.
@@orad23 also I found the counter rotating dual brushes on the Roomba pulled up carpet threads between thresholds.
@@sbomorse think the J7+ got better over time. I do prefer lidar but I see the benefits of vslam and more longevity. Obstacle avoidance is always being worked on so hopefully we can get an a good value roborock obstacle avoidance self empty bagless soon. If you want all that I think shark is probably what you're looking for but they have issues of their own.
Not sure how aggressive dual brushes are but I'm sure it's not much stronger than a normal vacuum
@@orad23 it's more the fact the counter rotate meaning they pull things up compared to a normal brush that brushes the carpet fibres in one direction.
Hi, is there any video coming up soon featuring how the lupe is holding up on 2022? I'm looking to buy one, but am curious to how it's holding up and the noise level
I waited all week during they sale launch time for this video haha.
Do a video on a LG robot vacuum
Who doesn't need mopping?!
:-)
a few factors can come into play for performance on carpet.
@@VacuumWars Your testing of these cleaning products is very professional, and we understand that you do not accept alliances and commercial cooperation. We are willing to provide you with free new products, you do a real evaluation. Our new products also urgently need your opinion, so that we can optimize and upgrade to better products.
how do you do the video trick at 2:08 please ?
Is there any superior model when it comes to carpet cleaning and navigation - more or less at a similar price point?
You should review the quantum x upright vacuum cleaner
How does this compare with S5 max
Hello, when will you do the Q7 review?
Thank you for making this! I am about to buy this but it's over $400! Can you suggest a vacuum that is JUST AS GOOD AS THIS but under $400? Thank you!
Good review and promising device to replace the S5, which I've had for many years. Hardly used the mop on that thing outside of just testing it a couple of times. It's such a hassle to set up with rugs and stuff it's hardly worth it. Faster to mop by hand.
if the rugs are not so high profile you can get the S7 which lifts the mop when passing over a carpet
Neato d10 is out bro pls go and review it
You mentioned the Q5 works with the S7 self-emptying dock, but would the S7 work on the Q5 self-emptying dock which I actually prefer?
Hello!! did you find out if the s7 is compatible with the q5 self-emptying dock??
@@afgarza Hi. No, I finally bought the S7MaxVplus. ;)
Narwhal Freo X Plus kills the Roborock Q5 i think. Test it out?
Is this better than Eufy L60 from your other video?
Review yeedi mop station , it is excellent robot for its price
When is the S7 MaxV Ultra review coming out?
I'm working on it now and should have a review this Friday. Thank you for checking!
Hi Chris!
Did you get the Ultra Dock for the S7 MaxV?
Got it!
@@VacuumWars :DDDDD
Which self emptying robot vac is best for dog hair???? Literally have been researching for days now and i dont know which one to buy....
Would you say this is better than the Roomba J7?
Can you test the Xiaomi mijia allround? It seems to be the new status quo. Even better than the s7 maxv.
How do you empty the dock once it's filled?
So...other than auto-empty, it sounds like this is basically a regular S4?
please review roborock Q7,is it a better option than roborock S7 or dreame z10 pro?
We are putting the finishing touches on that Q7 Max review now! It will be ready at 4pm EST today!
Can you comment and/or compare these features when you compare intelligent vacuums?
are you scared that they come up to your house and still all your carpets?
they are TÜV certified... more so than you can say about any Android phone selling your data daily.
Will this one be good for short pet hair?
What happens if your bin is full mid clean? I know the battery gets low it will go back and charge itself. But what happens if the bin is full mid clean?
Excellent video.
Thank you very much!
I want the Roborock Q5+. But I own a Roborock S7 already. Does anyone know the Roborock S7 work with the new auto empty bin?
Does anyone have a link to the rubber brush that is compatible with the q5+
does it work on high pile carpet? My S5 gets stuck because of the side brush
How does this compare to the Eufy x8 pro?
Man 699USD for it's "stripped down" model?? Crazy. I spent 600aud for my s5 and it's still doing a bang up job today after over 3 years. Sure it doesn't have auto empty but it's just part of my routine.
I think the price of 699 is too expensive, because he can't Obstacle Avoidance. If so, why don't I buy viomi or dreametech. At the same price, I will choose one that can avoid obstacles.🤔
In the same price range you can find the cecotec conga 8090 that have all functions of the S7 for half the price! Could you please make a video about it? Or about any conga
I can't make any promises but thank you for that suggestion!
Would u say this is better than a iRobot Roomba 694?
Is the Roomba I1 Decent?
How does this compare with Roborock S6 Pure?
How does this work for people with pets? More so if they vomit on the floor, will it detect the mess or will it go over it and spread it throughout the house?
Keep an eye on the premium models for that type of detection.
So, the new bags for the auto empty bin. How do I empty them, besides spending time forcing the dirt/hair out of the little hole?
Am I missing a zipper or something?
i’m wondering this as well. as far as i can tell they are meant to be single use… which is absurd considering they cost $31 for a pack.
@dax_megathor479 I found an answer.
I bought 3 REUSABLE bags (with zippers 😊) on Amazon. It was $16.99 for the 3
3.
You probably be fine with any of the foreign brands but that's what I used
@dax_megathor479 So, my long comment got deleted for some reason. 😑
Amazon has tons of options for REUSABLE bags that come with zippers. I got 3 bags for $17 and they should last years
@@dax_megathor479 .
@@AustinC-ul3vq oh awesome. would you mind dropping the link to the ones you bought? i will get a set too.
Are you going to review s7 max v?
I just released my review a few minutes ago.
I have a Neato D3 that does an amazing job and has served me well but is far behind this Q5. Since I haven't seen anything I like come out of Neato, I think this one is going to be my next robot vac - Thanks!
Same here. Definitely considering getting this one after having neato d7
When you doing the new Samsung massive robot?
VW, i’m really new to the robot vacuums . in that case , i’m in need of a budget friendly robot vacuum . what’s the best you can recommend pls and thank you !!
i grabbed the Z10 Pro for €450 including 25% VAT, super happy with latest firmware! i haven't used the mop since i mop myself, but the vacuum party works great 👍🏻
I got my Q5 plus yesterday and it’s great. I just have one problem and that’s that it does an empty partially through the cleaning process because I have a big house so it’ll get full fast and it sucks to have to manually push the home button for to go back in empty. Does anybody have any solutions?
I think this will replace my frequently getting stuck Shark.
Does the older style roller from the Q5 fit in the S7?
Hoping to get better carpet performance out of the S7.
did you watch the video? the score is 84 for the brush roller vs 83 for the rubber roller on carpet deep cleaning, so no, there's barely any difference in performance. And yes, it fits both rollers in both, which is also in the video.
@@xeon2k8 I did. Chill.
He tried the rubber brush in the Q5 but not the brush in the S7.
The rubber brush has trouble removing hair from deeper carpet in my home.
Their page says that Q5 Pro has 5500 Pa 🤔
I curious, would you put this over the j7 from iRobot? 🤔
no way. They J7 has obstacle avoidance, this hasnt.
No argument from me that Roborocks are very good - especially with navigation. I can't wait until the S7 Max V Ultra Super Premium Advanced Platinum whatever is available in the US. A mopping robot that cleans its mop pad with Roborock navigation would be great. The Bravajet M6 I use can barely figure out how to navigate off its own doc.
lol you made me laugh good mate
What about a taller carpet
S7 MaxV review soon?
If no problems come up, I hope to have that done Friday.
