    mine is a 2016 1500 longhorn 4x4 with a 5.7 the auto 4x4 does good in ice and snow does ok on muddy red clay. Noted it does often have a slight delay. Mine has anti slip rear end and find both rear wheels have to lock before auto 4wheel kicks in. Now as for snow and 4x4 high or low the 5.7 supply all the power you need to the wheels. biggest issue is the longhorn is lower with 20" rims, and that air deflector on the front will dig up alot of snow. It must be on there good for I had snow pushed over the hood, in that January snow storm in Virginia. kinda poped up had family of five did it getting to the only room we could find. But it did very good in snow and ice.

    Air Suspension load it and it rides like a luxury car still. ultra quiet cabin, and a superb sound system. Did I mention a beautiful cabin? Powerful proven Hemi engine with lots of extra power! A transmission that is a smooth smart shifting 8 speed! Beautiful mirrors well designed. smart auto wipes and headlights heck everything is automatic. seats are heated and cool vented that sends a chill up your back in no time. I could go on, but the choice was clear to me after driving all the rest.

      +CarQuestion I got my 2015 Ram Big Horn over the others. Biggest was price. It was several thousand cheaper. The ride quality was better, and the Hemi 8 speed combo couldn't be touched by the ford 5.0 or chevy 5.3.

    • @JohnDoe-cx9hv
      @JohnDoe-cx9hv 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Tim Hemi 5.7 My reason was because Chevy didn't offer the 8 speed auto in the LT z71. You had to upgrade to the LTZ to get the larger engine with the 8 speed. And that truck was way too expensive. Plus I wanted a z71 and the LTZ z71 was even more expensive. People complained about the 6 speed in the smaller engine having troubles towing. The one thing I really don't like on my ram is the shift knob dial thing. But it was a small price to pay to get all the options I wanted for about 9 grand cheaper. The Chevy dealership here wouldn't work with me. I previously owned a 2000 Chevy Silverado 1500. Had it since I was 16 and worked great. Was a fun truck and a great tower, great for off roading and hunting. It disappoints me to see that Chevy doesn't offer their best engines in the lower trim level Silverados. The Chrysler dealership I bought my dodge from gave me a $15,500 trade in on my old Chevy that had 215k miles on it. I kept that truck mint. So the obvious choice was the ram. Took it up hunting and it was a flawless ride. I have a lift with 35s on it though, so I get about 18mpg highway lol

    I thought about getting 4 wheel drive, but living down here in Houston I figured I wouldn't need it.
    It does hurt the gas mileage somewhat having the extra axle I have been told. I did get the Hemi engine which I like.
    I have always been a Ford man. I traded my 1988 F 150 super cab in. The body looked great and people told me I was crazy selling it. Every time something broke down on it, it cost as much as 5 monthly payments. I was spending money on a new one in the form of repair bills.
    I did get the Max Care Unlimited warranty that covers 5,000 things.
    These vehicles are just computers on wheels.
    Thanks for the video.... Nice Ride !

    So, there are two types of transfer cases on the Ram 1500. One has the 4wd Auto, and the other doesn't. The onie with the 4wd Auto actually does NOT lock the center differential. It's not a true 4wd system. It relies on a limited slip clutch that, when the rear wheels spin, locks and transfers power to the front wheels. The cheaper version of the truck, with the regular 4wd Lock, actually does lock the center differential properly, as you would expect a truck to do.
    The issue is that people want the "automatic" feature, and they don't bother taking the time to do the research. The "Auto" transfer case, even in 4 LO does NOT EVER lock up the center diff. It's a stupid design.
    I have a Ram 1500, and I made sure to buy the non-4Auto version and I have no issues like they do in this video.

      Finally, someone who knows what they're talking about! These comments were driving me crazy but you are 100% correct. I also bought the Ram with the BW44-45 transfer case instead of the BW44-44 that has 4Auto and uses clutch packs to engage.

  • @dhrider4895
    @dhrider4895 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    The auto differential on the higher trim is so bad. I have a sxt without this option and the front end is completly locked. I have a friend with a sport and we was side by side , with same tire in 1 foot of snow, and I drove it back like I was on pavement, and with his sport he need sand and shovel a little bit, because of the damn front wheel wont lock on.
    More I watch this video and more I'm glad I had a lower trim with full front lock differential. And you cannot judge a truck with all season tire like this. Try it with studded tire and it will be a different story

    I just bought a 2016 Outdoorsman not knowing that when you choose the Luxury package you do not get 4WD AUTO. Kinda pissed. I had it on my 2010 sport and loved it. Not a big fan of the knob shifter either. Also, because I chose the tow package with mirrors I lost out on the power folding mirrors and auto dimming, that I paid for in the Luxury package. The skid plates mentioned in one of it's packages is a joke. A piece of metal 12" x 24" right under the oil pan and another under the transfer case. I still love the truck, but those are some of the little things that the dealer fails to mention before ordering a vehicle. The web site also failed to let me know about the mirror downgrade when it seemed to let you know about other changes in the truck when choosing different packages. It also says online that I was getting a Humidity sensor which I believe is also not on my truck. There are some things in the packages that just don't come with models lower than the sport.

    • @CarQuestion

      +flyercan thanks for those precision! keep us informed about how you like it over time :)

    • @flyercan
      @flyercan 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think the humidity sensor is part of the A//C and not part of the windshield wipers like I was thinking. So I may indeed have that feature. I just wanted to point out another web site flaw that I forgot to mention. Their color scheme on the web site is quite a bit off from real life. Anyone who has considered ordering their vehicle through the Chrysler web site should ask the sales rep for true images of the colors listed. I was unpleasantly surprised at the color blue I received over the color blue I wanted.
      I have a question for you and the 2016 model with air suspension. I have seen people post that they have issues with their air suspension during the winter because it doesn't have a built in "Air dryer" to remove moisture and as a result it causes the system to freeze up over time. Is there any way you can find out if the 2016 models have integrated an "Air dryer" into their air suspension system?
      Thanks.

Winter tires are not designed for deep snow or off road. They are designed for road situations. This is consistent with anyone who knows what they are talking about as well as the testing done by tire rack.

    @carquestion, the ONLY reason I'm looking through these vids of locking diffs not locking is because yesterday 9Nov2016, while in 4WD LOCK in my 2013 1500 Big Horn, I COULD NOT reverse up a very slight, yet a little muddy, incline. I had to select 4WD LOW in order to negotiate that task. VERY disappointing. Only the rear wheels were spinning and the fronts were sitting there like a lazy fat kid. 4WD LOCK..??..ought to LOCK...PERIOD!!! But I WILL say...that 4WD LOW is nooooo wus. Simply don't advertise LOCK if it doesn't lock.

      @Fangtian0303 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      David Hobson First, you did not read the OP. He put it in 4WD lock high and the front wheels did not spin. So, read the OP better before you tell him to ready owners manual. Second, if you spend 10 minutes of your time do a little research, you will find that the 4WD lock (high) in ram 1500, does not really lock all 4 wheels ALL THE TIME. Which is a big issue in ram owner community.
      So..... read better and do a little research before you go bashing other people.

      Was a GM person most of my life but piss poor engineering since about '07 has change my opinion. The last good GM trucks were the '04-'06 platform. GM engineering today sucks. Government Motors!

      yeah I have a 01 Tahoe that just wont die and 71 K10 which is better than any truck manufactured today. I can rebuid the entire thing for less than you could buy a used new truck. Not as many creature comforts but I don't mind that part. If ya cant back up your trailer without assistance you probably shouldn't be towing a trailer.

      You likely have a better vehicle than any GM you can buy today. I have seriously looked at these new Rams and am considering one with the 5.7 Hemi as an option. '08 Trailblazer now but I'm thinking a pickup would suit my needs better and I see the Ram as the only option out there today.

    Do you homework people and stay away from the ecodiesel. They don't
    take the little added cost to key the cam gears, but instead just
    tighten them down with a bolt that will eventually allow the valve gear
    to slip and thus the motor blows.

      lugner lugner I have 2014 limited eco diesel with air suspension, well over 150k on it. I wouldn’t sell it for anything. Eco diesel is the best engine and you don’t know what you talking about. I’ve never had any issues other than my Bluetooth and regular service stuff. Engine has been great the whole time.

    What a POOR 4x4 system cant even get all 4 to rotate at once at 1 mph At least GM uses a Locking Diff that would have been so useful to get it to go, sadly this grade is not much to get over and the distance to actually traverse is nothing, How could they produce such a shitty 4WD system ??? Very Poor..... makes you think can my ram even get me out of my driveway if this example was presented to me at home........SAD

      @Mikewalden12345 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      David Alexander it's more of a poor tire issue,. I agree the locking rear end is awesome in my Nissan pro 4x and would be a good option in the dodge

      Every manufacturer offers different systems to meet the customers needs. This looks like the most basic open diff system with maybe some traction control kicking in. For every day use this is fine, its also the most efficient and wont require as many repairs. GM does this as well, not all Silverados / Sierras have the G80. Ram also offers a limited slip and an actual locker as well.

      clarda1 exactly what i was thinking looked very open diff if you spend a good chunk of change has a nice 4wd system included not a ram lol i have heard their 1500s are known to get stuck in snow easier than any other truck

    • @clarda1
      @clarda1 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not every one wants a limited slip or a locking rear. Not all Fords / GM / Etc come with a locking or limited rear. It is an option on the Ram just like it is on the F150, silverado etc. As for them getting stuck in the snow the easiest.. never heard of that. The Wrangler SR-A's that come with them from the factory are pretty bad though.
