Loved my 2016 Ram 1500 Longhorn 4x4 Fully deleted EcoD. Never had a single issue in 100K miles, never saw the inside of a shop for anything but tire rotations. Regular fuel treatment, good synthetic oil, fuel filter changes every 15K. NEVER. MISSED. A. Beat. 34” tires and a 2” lift 3.92 gears averaged 25-27highway and 21ish anywhere else. One of the best trucks I’ve ever owned.

3:50 There have been multiple revisions done to the AEM, the excessive lag was when the engine was cold and I experienced it myself with my wife's EcoDiesel, however there have been additional recalls since then that have involved updated tunes and now it's back to performing as expected and getting great fuel economy. So, if you have the excessive lag with your EcoDiesel and the stock tune please do make sure it has the most recent recall/update applied.

I had it in to the dealer maybe 6 months ago and they flashed the ECU at the time (and did a tone arm replacement soon after as that coincidentally broke on the way home from the ECU flash...) and it made no real improvement. Yesterday I put it back into (emissions compliant) Stage 0.5 tune and it's remarkably improved, especially at tip-in.

Had the truck for 3 months hating the purchase I decided to purchase a Green diesel engineering tune I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT now !!! 18 to 22 in city and 28 to 32 on highways depending on how heavy my foot is, tune has turbo brake. No looking back now. Going on 2 years of ownership and still counting

I had a 2015. Bought it new. Couldn't keep it out of the dealership. It kept coking up the MAP. The stealership couldn't figure it out. I deleted it at 32k miles with the help of GDE off road tune. It performed flawlessly until 310k miles and I got rid of it. It was in EXCELLENT shape. A monster rock star of a truck. At 250k the front axles, ball joints, bearings, and those damn jack shafts were shot and all got replaced. I did it myself. At 300k miles I did the brakes for the SECOND time. Water pumps about every 90k or sooner. The o-rings were checked and cracked every time and leaking just a little. Never took it back to the dealer for any of the recalls and emission trouble they were having. I never got any money for it. I got rid of it because I was towing a little dirty with it and need a heavier truck. The GDE tune got rid of almost all the lag. It was a nice truck. I had 33" tires on it and it routinely got 27mpg. If I remember correctly on of the odometer sets I never touched and for 245k miles it averaged 21.5mpg.

@@djmjr77 the CP4 pumps are problematic with our low cetane diesel fuel in the U.S. However that Eco was a gen 2 and when they launched the Gen 3 over 80% of the engine was redesigned over the Gen 2. Born and raised in Asia (Sri Lanka) I really love turbo diesel, it is very sad USA does not have much turbo diesel options. I really love the long range and superior torque with turbo diesels with Toyota Hilux, Land cruiser 70, Hiace (van) even non Toyota vehicles. Its amazing how much torture we give to those turbo diesels on a tropical country with lot of mud and water crossings. From what I have now, not a fan of the range of my v6 gas 4Runner. One of the reason I absolutely hate Land cruiser 200 here in USA with 5.7v8 + tiny 24gal tank. I had high hopes when Wrangler announced with 3L diesel thinking there would be a trend for turbo diesels. Looks like we are heading more towards city vehicles with EV trend.

@@LionRunner that's cool, yeah we don't have that in the states, gas is half the cost, and while electric is a neat idea, we don't have the interstate system laid out where it's convenient to own an EV. You still can't cross the country in a non stop drive in an EV. In a gas or diesel vehicle, if you changed drivers you could keep driving constantly, but in an EV you'd need to stop for a day, or two every so often. Which makes me wonder why they focus so much on technology that won't work here and less on things like diesel that does.

The Ecodiesel is a very good vehicle for driving on snow and ice. Towing is good with our 7x16 cargo trailer. My 2016 has 3.92 gears. A little bit better breathing with a Flowmaster 50 series HD muffler and the Bank's silencer delete on the intake. I was contemplating a new truck with 4.56 gears, a 2" lift, and 35" tires.
When the engine is cold, Tow/Haul mode solves any off idle problems.
My wife has a beastly 2018 Ram 2500. I recently took delivery of a heavily optioned Hawk model 4 Wheel popup camper for her truck. And laying out the cash for that kinda hurts my budget to buy a new Ecodiesel right now. I really like the gen 3 engine. I wish my 2020 Dodge Durango had the gen 3 Ecodiesel. I have been considering a Jeep Wrangler or Gladiator. But as a taller person, I need more room. I have a project Jeep ZJ that I don't use very often.
The whole electric thing is kind of foolish. An ecodiesel hybrid would have been smarter. TFL has proven with the Ford Lightning. That electrics are not yet a good enough.
I have 2 Tesla Powerwalls, with 17 solar panels on the roof of my house. I replaced a gas wall heater and an evaporative cooler. With a heat pump a/c system. So I do embrace good newer technology. But electrics are not good enough to replace other drive units. Electrics are okay for some people. But the housing economics of the last 70 years say electrics are a novelty. And will not be practical in most cases.

I am already on my second ram 1500 Eco diesel. The first one was 2015 [I was the first owner] and I put 130,000 miles on it with virtually no problems. Actually zero problems.
My second one [current one] it’s a 2022 gen 3 eco-diesel and it is a dream car. Already 20,000 miles on it with zero problems.
The ram 1500 eco- diesel is a dream car. Very very sad to hear that they are not making them anymore as I don’t understand why. Must be hassles with the EPA compliance.
My wife has a 2021 Tahoe 3.0 Duramax diesel. I will tell you one secret. The ram is a Smoter suspension, nicer drive and somehow feels like a better engine. I know because I drive and maintain them both. I like the Tahoe Duramax as well, but somehow the Ram diesel is a smoother ride and also smoother engine.
But the Duramax is also a good engine and now seems to be the only one left if you want a diesel.
I would have really wanted to see a jeep wagoner or grand wagoner diesel. But looks like that’s not gonna happen anymore.
Stelantis, if you’re reading this, you must have had your reason to drop the eco-diesel, but it was such a good engine and smooth ride.

Ecodiesels are dead because they make no sense when the price of diesel is $1.3 more, per gallon, than regular gas.
