  • Firstly, We highly recommend watching with subtitles! They make the video a lot better as some parts are a little hard to catch things we say due to the nature of the adventure!
    IMPORTANT - Please also let Finn know in the comments he deserves an Oscar for his performance
    Hello!
    Welcome to Episode 4 of the straight line mission across New Zealand, a project Finn and I spent months working on after being inspired by Tom Davies (‪@GeoWizard‬ on TH-cam), one of the most entertaining video makers on the internet! full credit to him for inspiration for the whole project, editing and music style. We both had a lot of fun and are really proud of our adventure - we hope you enjoy watching the series as much as just a fraction of how much we enjoyed doing it!
    We'd love for you to subscribe, give us a thumbs up, leave a comment or message us on
    Instagram (@straightlinenz), and share with friends or family who you might think will enjoy!
    Many thanks to our support crew, as without them this would not have been possible, Our supporters on Givealittle ( who helped us raise 2.4K for Forest and Bird!), all the land owners who knowingly allowed us to cross their property, all the landowners who unknowingly allowed us to cross their property, Finn for subtitling, helping write some of the voiceovers and providing wonderful support with what to include in the episode, and to every single one of you for following along and enjoying our adventure!

    I don’t know if it’s how you guys decided to edit this or something but you seem to do this straight line mission quite effortlessly. I know, of course, it must have been hard work (brutal at parts) but you have such a good attitude throughout the thing. I think that’s the thing I’ve been the most impressed about. I’ve seen quite a few of these Tom Davies inspired adventures and I can say without a shadow of a doubt you guys are my favorite of all of them.
    Cheers.

    That timelapse along the road was awesome!! Thanks for the video guys, good work, I particularly approve of your method of asking permission, talking to people, etc. and I think you have shown that that method is effective.
    Just a point regarding that long straight road (you may have already done this as you said you did a lot of planning): it would be possible to tweak the angle of the line slightly by planning it (the line) on one side of the road at one end and then the opposite side of the road at the other. The road looks quite wide, I have estimated 5 metres including the verges, based on this and a rough measurement of your complete line I calculated you could rotate the line by up to 0.1° either way, meaning a possible adjustment in the start point (North West) up to 49 metres either way and the end point (South East) up to 137 metres. You could even move it more if you assumed you could go off the planned line by a certain distance, say within 25 metres when planning a platinum run, especially considering the road is a well known entity that you could expect to walk in a precice trajectory. Sorry you probably didn't want to hear that now!

    • @ollie_taylor
      @ollie_taylor  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey man, glad to hear you enjoyed the watch! Luckily when planning the line drawing the line perfectly straight along the road gave us a very optimal line, however you do raise an excellent point as we absolutely could have had a bunch of permutations while still staying on the one road! I think your point of changing few tenths of a degree resulting in very significant over many kilometers is paramount when it comes to the adjusting stage of line planning. While we didn't actually use it much for the final line which we kinda stumbled upon, we had many weeks of doing so for other possible lines we were looking at!

  • @Nooticus
    @Nooticus ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Literally one of the best videos ever! The editing, little animations and drawings, EVERYTHING was just so entertaining! Your line choice and determination is truly incredible to get to this point with only a (realistically) tiny deviation of only 50 metres! Truly insane!
    I see that you didn’t complete the straight line as there’s only 1 episode left, but hey, this is genuinely some of the best content ever on TH-cam 👏

    Excited for the next episode. As steep as the mountains are, it surely looks beautiful... also serious cheers to the landowner for all that effort, insane. I enjoyed the clever puns at 3:30. Shame about the platinum run but it's kind of a no-brainer as I would rather have you both survive. I take the deer at 23:12 as a sign. Good video!
