    Really enjoy all the data collecting/testing you guys do! Telling us you feel a difference vs showing us it makes a difference is hugely appreciated. Thanks for the work.

    Damn that's crazy, I wanted the intake turn signal but after this, I'm good with stock. Keep up the great videos guys !

    There were some questions about how my coolant temp changed with the intakes, so I'll sticky this at the top. You can also see them on the KTuner log window as "ECT" (Engine Coolant Temperature) to the lower left of the IAT reading.
    Intake Air Temp vs. Coolant Temp
    Run 1: Headlights Down - 194°, Headlights Up - 194°
    Run 2: Headlights Down - 194°, Headlights Up - 198°
    Run 3: Headlights Down - 196°, Headlights Up - 194°

    Interesting data, I've had a set of these sitting in my garage for the last couple of years that I've never gotten around to installing. I don't figure it'll make a huge difference on my car since its still a 1.6L.

      There’s probably ways to increase the functionality like running a duct from the TSI to the intake, but most people don’t, so that wouldn’t have been real for this test.

    Cool data! Kinda what I thought they do something, but not a much. Would love to see LRB vs Singular vs r theory vs..... hood vents. Most manufacturers do the wool test but can’t find any data a vs b vs c..... Might be hard to find people with all the different varieties tho. (I like the looks of LRB or R theory).

    I know this was posted back in 2020, but if you're interested in trying another idea Simpson Designs makes a hood with vents at the back near the hinges. I was talking with the guy who makes them and he was saying that someone did some testing and found that the vented hood with turn signal intakes made for upwards of 40 degree cooler engine bay temps (probably tested around 60-70 degrees F) I've got the hood as I needed more clearance for my engine swap

    • @NappMotorsports

      I’d love to put a Simpson hood on the K swap but I need to get my hands on one first.

    As I understand it the area around the turn signal on an NA is a low pressure area, which means it takes more power to draw in air from there. So it's a trade off I'd say. Lower intake temp but the engine works harder to suck air in. In my Miata racing experience I don't see people using turn signal intakes, but we have lots of other options to reroute cool air into the intake from high pressure areas that involve cutting sheet metal and so are maybe not appealing for a street car.

    • @NappMotorsports
      @NappMotorsports  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the input! On the setup we took these off of we have cold air ducting right into the intake, so sucking in cold air is less of an issue on the other car.

    Is there any way you could relocate the sensor so it isn't sitting right behind the radiator? It must be getting pretty heat soaked where it is right now.

    • @NappMotorsports
      @NappMotorsports  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I did move it to the end of the filter itself on Friday, and it dropped measured intake temps around 10*, so that was a nice free 5 minute fix.

  • @shaunwalker2055

    Think these needed hood vents or hood spacers, the TSI is cramming air in with no way to get out smoothly.

    • @NappMotorsports
      @NappMotorsports  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hood vents are definitely a huge help.

    • @NappMotorsports
      @NappMotorsports  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I will keep that in mind haha. Just know that my car runs really hot with the current setup lol. If it’s 85* F outside (29.5* C), my car would be at like 110* F (43.3* C) at the intake. It’s much better now that I’ve made some more changes.

    Does any one make some clean looking hood vents for the NAs? That would probably work wonders

    • @NappMotorsports
      @NappMotorsports  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There's a couple, like spiked performance, but I don't want to put hood vents on my street car. I'm trying to maintain an OEM + look from the outside.

    Stefan, are you still running factory plastic undertray? I wonder If sealing the radiator would further improve NACA duct efficiency? I also wonder if singular hood vents would also help with expelling heat out of engine bay to improve IATs? Who's gonna lend some more parts For SCIENCE!

    • @NappMotorsports
      @NappMotorsports  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’d be down to try hood vents, but not on my car haha. We’d have to use a car that doesn’t need a modified hood to clear anything (Cough, Dylan, cough). I also haven’t modified my undertray. I’ll do that as another test.

  • @seniorxj2931
    @seniorxj2931 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Why don't you connect the intakes directly to the air intake making it a sealed system like a ram air intake!?

    • @NappMotorsports
      @NappMotorsports  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not enough room behind the turn signal. The pop up headlight actually sit directly behind the intakes. So they let in cool air but it can’t be directed anywhere unless you deleted your headlights. I’m sure some race cars have done it.

    • @EccentricEllis
      @EccentricEllis 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@NappMotorsports that's why I got a spare bonnet. As the vents are negative air they pull. As the mouth of the car is positive, it pushes, combined you have a circular system which both pushes air through the radiator etc. But that also sucks it out of the top.
      Loved the video though. Thanks.

      That pan is pretty important on Miatas. I’d get the oem one modified or modify a lrb 3pc one. Will be a cheap date and I’d be willing to bet you see differences on cooling temps and potentially iat as well.
