Appreciate your work on this and glad Mazda gave you the resources for this project. One of the most important cars ever made from one of the most passionate auto makers around. Nothing but respect after owning multiple miatas myself.
An immense sensation of jealously for your getting to visit the heritage center and speak with all of those wonderful contributors to Mazda. You've done an exceptional job telling their story and communicating the personality and spirit of the Miata, beyond the vanity of looks, performance, and stereotypes.
How someone can dislike this is beyond me. It's obvious they do not like the Miata so why waste their time watching this. Can't wait for the rest of the episodes.
I bought a mint Mazdaspeed Miata with less than 60k miles on it this year for cheap. I ended up having to move across the country and had to sell it to afford the move. I had the car for a month and I still think about it every day. I will get another in the future for sure. It was therapeutic to drive.
The design stories from the engineers are fantastic. It would be great to see more of these in the future! The story about characterising the exhaust tone of a red sports car is a perfect example of translating the intangible elements of car design (feel, character, driver connection) into tangible criteria that can be realized. Unfortunately I think these intangibles are much more difficult to market to the average consumer without performance numbers alongside them, so we don't see as much focus on them even in some performance cars.
It is so refreshing to listen to an interviewer who understands that it is not about "them" You ask the questions and then let the expert answer uninterrupted . There are a lot of interviewers especially in the automotive realm that could learn a lot from your style. I am anxiously awaiting the next episode! Cheers.
I bought a 99 Miata 5MT with 88k miles about a month ago. It’s such a fun little car and it’s been awesome watching this series and getting insight into the design of these cars
I bought an ND earlier this year, loved every second behind the wheel. Really great seeing these guys reflect on their careers. Hyped for the rest of the series.
The first generation NA MX-5 is my favorite. It's light, simple, and true to the spirit of a no-nonsense sports car. I know the newer Miatas are faster, more comfortable, etc., but I'd take a good running first gen' instead.
Just purchased a 1991 NA with 50K miles. Hands down the best overview of Miata out there! The music, shots, and content is perfect! Keep up the great content, glad I found your channel!
One,if not the last one, pure drivers car made affordable to the simple person. And the quality of this documentary shows how capable the Savagegeese crew is,im impressed. Cant wait for the next chapter.
I love this series! I'm a Miata enthusiast anyway, but this is such a nice throwback to the older savagegeese productions, too. I feel the newer ones are sometimes a bit too tangy and sarcastic/bitter; this is "just" overall positive and cheerful. There's criticism, too, but it never seems to dampen the mood. Combined with the ever-awesome production and super beautiful shots, it's just a joy to watch. Also, the interviews are _amazing_ as well, such knowledgeable, calm and approachable people, and I love that you just let them talk, instead of cutting their answers short.
There is a particular art form to the Miata. So few cars are derived from pure idea, so the cars and the series are rather special. I've sat in all series and driven the NA and ND. I also own the NC derived RX8. These are profound designs, that in theory are unmatched in recent history. Even when you look at super cars, it's things like this that really stands out against the spectrum.
Just went for a drive in my NB after watching this video. Here in the UK, the rust kills them before any mechanical issues. Mine is far perfect, the alignment is a bit off, tyres are little under-inflated, every bump wants to rip the steering wheel from your hands and I even have the hardtop on as it's winter but still, so enjoyable, roll the windows down, no music and it was just delightful. Mine does have probably the shortest intake you can find for these cars made by Autoexe Japan, not sure what it does for power, but it sounds incredible almost ITB-like. Just perfect! I almost forgot how much I love the thing, this video just reminded me. Thanks!
Man this inspired some teary-eyed moments. The quality of these videos is mind blowing for such a small outlet. It was weird to get emotional on the toilet. Thanks Mark
I remember the first time I fell in love with the Miata NA is when my grandfather owns one. I remember when I was a child there are a lot of times when the car is parked in the garage I imagine myself driving it and playing with the pop up headlights. When I watch reviews of Miata NA I realize how special that car is.
80ies vibe is strong with this one - love the retro music! To think that what you are showing is but a small outtake of the experience you tell about is insane, because it is already so much and looks so good. Thanks for this insight into the histroy of the design and the people behind it.
Mr. Goose. It’s me again, Matthew from Toronto Canada. Thank you to you and everyone who participated and was able to help you make this (including us who subscribe and like and watch and support you). This series truly is a celebration of one of the greatest cars to ever grace this world. Amazing quality and amazing interviews with people from the inside who aided in the development of the car. I can’t wait to see the rest of the series, and what other cars or brands or what have you that you do more series’ on. Thank you, Mr. Goose. #honkforlife

@@Masterpiece-cn8sg It feels like a classic car. You can feel how much lighter it is compared to the others. And it has the pop up headlights. The NA just has more personality than the others. Plus there is noticably more interior space than the others.

Thanks my dad have the Nd and this is a great car the only disappointment was the stering, I didn’t get the information and quickness’s I got with the NA ! What do you think ?
I remember the hype for this car when it came out. Reading all the articles in the car magazines just praising it over and over again. I didn’t get it then it wasn’t until I drove a 92 Miata and then it hit me just how great the car was. I’ve never owed one but after denying myself one, having bigger heavier, more powerful cars at one point or another I miss that light weight little corner carver that still tugs at me even now. Just have to figure out what gen i like the most.
The quality of this documentary is great Mark...you should be really proud of what you've accomplished here. It's better than 95% of the car stuff available ANYWHERE.
I have a Mazda 6 with the 2.0l liter engine that came in the Miata NC. I love so incredibly much. This car has been a literal workhorse for me. It revs out all the way to around 6.5k’s. Could have not gotten a better first car for my taste in cars. I really appreciate that Mazda show their history and that they continue with traditions as well as having a heart. Where the core message is fun! Zoom-zoom
John Dempsey i bought and NC last month, and it’s pretty awesome. Simple, yet modern with all the things I find convenient. Heated seats, Bose, power hard top.
I think the color makes a big difference. They look mean in black or silver. A coworker has a blue/purple NC with retractable hard top and it is terrible looking(also an auto).
I'm looking to change cars sometime in 2020 and the NC is the one that's most tempting to me right now. My favorite shape, and the power hardtop (which I also prefer over the ND RF) makes it just about perfect for me. If I went soft top I'd probably take a 124 over an ND.
Thanks for this awesome video series! I had a 2005 Mazdaspeed Miata for a few years. Truly loved that car. Had to sell it due to teenage drivers in house and impending college tuitions to fund. Watching your video makes me think its time for another Miata!
I appreciate the engineering behind these cars and the dedication that Mazda shows to simplicity and light weight. I own a 1991 NA and a 2017 ND. The ND reminds me so much of the NA. They got it right first time. Great video, thank you.
Amazing to watch the progress of this channel . Filmmaking , knowledge , humor . Mark even could have gone down different career paths but has intentionally chose the path of least resistance , bravo for making art instead of chasing the “rat race “ mentality so many of us fall into , beautiful .
Thanks, epic video. You always have something good and bad to say combined with awesome video quality and a great sense of humor. That's why I know Mazda picked you to film this great video series. Hey Mark! You guys are absolutely amazing. Loved the content and passion put into these videos. Definitely have invoked a huge desire in me to one day own a Miata of some sort.
I think people are starting to come around in the NC , I personally didn’t appreciate it until recently, I find myself enjoying the looks and I know it drives well , I think it will get it do .
Agreed. My first "Miata product" was an Exocet (long story) and after owning that for a year I decided I wanted an actual Miata. Ended up settling on an NC2 and I couldn't be happier. I for one love the front & rear refreshed fascias, and always liked the integrated fender flares; with a little drop and some different wheels they really set the car off. It's also the only generation thus far to have a retractable hardtop which is super convenient. A lot of Miataheads like to bash the NC and call it a "boat" which is annoying... sure it's a little bigger but the chassis is better than the previous gens and it's more powerful, despite being a hair heavier. I still love each generation in its own way but for my tastes there's a reason I went for the 3rd!
I just bought a NA Miata this year, red 91 with only 70k original miles, clean considering the age with the original hard top. My first stick shift car and I am having a blast. I also have a 350Z and it's amazing how much smaller and lighter the Miata feels. It's like driving around in a go-kart.
One of the few cars that you can actually drive hard in gears 1-2-3 and not loose your licence. It is a go cart on the street but you need to modify it a bit to be current. They are reliable and easy to work on. I sold it for a good price this year because if you don't plan to track it i did not feel safe driving it on the street with all those f150 and suv. It is an interesting classic. They are now an inexpensive weekend toy.
I appreciate the true passion of this entire painting yes painting the people the Miata and showing the process of the artists and art the Miata I will watch this video a lot while in my future stock NA Miata . I like Lamborghinis a lot , I like miatas a lot. Lamborghini is similar Ferrari was rude to Lamborghini the lawnmower 😎 then he painted his own , however miatas and the feeling is sooo unique, I guess what I have yet to drive a Miata , soon. I’ll update soon -Sipeo

The highest tier of this subject matter on TH-cam. Only Davide Cironi compares.

This channel has such an amazing blend of journalistic integrity, music and cinematography. Really well done, I cannot recommend this channel enough
Sick 80's intro, love the song
Awesome sing indeed!
It is so refreshing to listen to an interviewer who understands that it is not about "them" You ask the questions and then let the expert answer uninterrupted . There are a lot of interviewers especially in the automotive realm that could learn a lot from your style. I am anxiously awaiting the next episode! Cheers.
Then you would also like Davide Cironi. He's done long take interviews with many of the fathers of the 1960-1980's Italian supercars.
I also bought an ND2 this year. It’s just pure fun.
ND2 is gold.
savagegeese I’m curious if you’ll end up owning one in coming years, goose. I especially look forward to the upcoming ND episode.
I think that the nd2 will appreciate in the future. Only Manuel.
The first generation NA MX-5 is my favorite. It's light, simple, and true to the spirit of a no-nonsense sports car. I know the newer Miatas are faster, more comfortable, etc., but I'd take a good running first gen' instead.
I had an nc which was faster, more refined and safer but I sold it and kept my na. They just got the original so right.
I feel like this should be on the History Channel. The production value and professionalism is astounding.
For anyone who wants to know the song used, it's Zero Gravity by ELFL
Thank you. Shazam was throwing everything from the nutcracker suite, to the macarena at me.
Thanks Mark
I have a 97.... I will never get rid of it. Absolutely love it!
Does not matter how many Miata videos I watch, never gets old.
Goose.

Love this little series man!
Love daily driving my 93 miata it needs some work but it is fun to drive. It does have a whimsical feeling to drive like he said.
Haha omg, I've driven this road so many times in my white NC2 club when I used to commute to work in Irvine, never thought I'd see Mark there blasting around. Can't wait for the NC video! Fantastic series by one of my favorite channels on youtube. Thanks for this.
This documentary is worthy of this iconic Sportcar, informative, entertaining and polished, a home run
Ive owned NA, NB, and ND. The NA has by far been my favorite. I still drive it nearly every day.
The Adventure Auto, can you please explain why ?
@@Masterpiece-cn8sg It feels like a classic car. You can feel how much lighter it is compared to the others. And it has the pop up headlights. The NA just has more personality than the others. Plus there is noticably more interior space than the others.
The Adventure Auto thank you for taking the time I also have an Na from 1990 and think the same, just wanted to have your point of view. Thanks my dad have the Nd and this is a great car the only disappointment was the stering, I didn’t get the information and quickness’s I got with the NA ! What do you think ?
Well done. Thank you for all your hard work bringing us a series of this level.
I had a 1992 Miata for 2 years, absolutely loved revving out that little 1.6 liter EVERYWHERE
The quality of this documentary is great Mark...you should be really proud of what you've accomplished here. It's better than 95% of the car stuff available ANYWHERE.
That sure does bring back fond memories. Perhaps it's time to relive my youth and restore a NA.
I am so excited about the video series on the Miatas !
These Miata videos are an absolute out of the park home run! As a new Miata owner I’m really enjoying the history lesson. Thank You!
I need to know who are the 18 people who would feel strongly enough to give this *free* and well produced video a THUMBS DOWN?!?!? Animals.
Zoom-zoom
Thank god it wasn’t front engine FWD
n9athan I think if it had been, we wouldn’t be watching a documentary series about it. Agree!
This is excellent, Thank you Mark and Co. I own an 89 Miata and plan to never sell it. It always puts a smile on my face.
Love the heart wipe.
Star wipes are the best.
Fantastic! Can't wait for the NC part. So many hate it, but it's my favorite!
steveyj75 I own an ND and I also love the looks of the NC , I’ve never driven one but they may be the best Miata ever
Villermosa I’ve owned an ND RF, an NC softtop, and an Abarth 124. The ND is the pick, and then I’d give the 124 the nod over the NC.
Watching the documentary for the second time.
It is moving and exceptional in compassion, detail, quality!
Thank you.
Thanks for making such amazing and high quality content, with tons of interesting enthusiast info and no pretentiousness 👍😊
Amazing to watch the progress of this channel . Filmmaking , knowledge , humor . Mark even could have gone down different career paths but has intentionally chose the path of least resistance , bravo for making art instead of chasing the “rat race “ mentality so many of us fall into , beautiful .
I daily drove a '94 for 17 years (had a '78 fiat spider 124 before that). Good times.
Thanks, epic video. You always have something good and bad to say combined with awesome video quality and a great sense of humor. That's why I know Mazda picked you to film this great video series. You deliver great content and I'm I proud owner of a 2019 ND RF thanks to you (Daily driver, right now in snow :D ). Keep those great videos coming :D
Miata daily drivers unite! I daily my PRHT NC all year round here in southern Germany as well, rain (or snow) or shine. It's just such a fun car!

Love the toys in Tom Matano's workspace....very ecletic
I think 2020 is going to be the Year Of The Savage Gooses.
Mark my words America.
Where's Turbowski?
He is in the shoppe.
@@savagegeese Ye Olde Goose Buggy Shoppe
My Wife insists on calling you Savage Goose because she says it's just you so it cant be Geese.
What about turbowski and Korean Jack?
@@shadowsocks7472 He goes by Jack Singapore, not Korean Jack.
As I understand, while he sometimes calls himself Mr. Goose, that's just out of the association, but the savage geese are probably the actual geese inhabiting that rural area where he lives.
And geese can be savage. Although angry territorial wing-clipped swans ice the cake: th-cam.com/channels/FUlAFfWjozaoNwMtWKZZRA.html
Best Miata documentaries ever made. Incredible editing. Hats off to you, Savagegeese.
I knew a lot about the Miata, but this has given me a greater appreciation. Excellent work!
Tom Motano was my instructor and director at my school (Academy of Art), timeless design is what he instilled into everyone, the importance of design restrained and strong understanding of section. Couldn’t of asked for a better teacher and mentor.
Hey Mark! You guys are absolutely amazing. Loved the content and passion put into these videos. Definitely have invoked a huge desire in me to one day own a Miata of some sort.
Im eager to see what they say about the NC as a NC owner. I've always got the perception that NCs are the redheaded stepchildren of the miata family.
I own and daily a NC1 and I can't imagine I'll ever get rid of it. I've driven a NA and an NB before and all of them were fantastic to me.
I think people are starting to come around in the NC , I personally didn’t appreciate it until recently, I find myself enjoying the looks and I know it drives well , I think it will get it do .
Current NC owner, coming from a NB, I dare to say NC provides more punch, and thrills, I love them both, they are both miatas.
I have an NA 1.6 for the weekends and an NC2 20th Anniversary as a daily driver. Such enjoyable cars, each with their differences and sweet spots.
I just bought a NA Miata this year, red 91 with only 70k original miles, clean considering the age with the original hard top. My first stick shift car and I am having a blast. I also have a 350Z and it's amazing how much smaller and lighter the Miata feels. It's like driving around in a go-kart.
Beautiful work, should be preserved for future, all of this series in fact.
And* guess
I love the Drive soundtrack like synth score to this. I’ll always desire a stripped first gen in blue with the 1.8 and slick short manual. No AC, no PS, no power anything inside...
