This was my first baby's favorite position (with the same nursing pillow, actually!). I didn't know about the laid back position, or I would have tried that too. I bet she would have responded really well to that one. As she got a little older, we liked to lay down together on our sides. With my second baby, she liked it when I had one knee bent and she'd sort of nestle down in the space between my leg and body while she breastfed. Full body contact for that kid - front and back! LOL She is 9 now, but still loves to cuddle and be held.

can a tongue tied baby nurse without the procedure

Yes, many can. It depends on a lot of factors including the anatomy of the tie, the anatomy of mother's breasts, her milk supply, etc. Mothers of babies with tongue tie are at risk of low supply but sometimes it works out fine. If breastfeeding doesn't hurt, if baby is gaining well and milk supply is fine, there is no need to treat. If there are symptoms it is usually advisable to treat the tongue tie, and the younger the baby, the quicker s/he will learn to breastfeed effectively after the procedure.

+Jessica Barton My baby has a tongue tie and i have been mostly pumping and bottle feeding. When I try breastfeeding she gets fussy and oushes herself away. Is there any hope for breastfeeding? I have a large milk supply and end up freezing some of the milk.

+fdgirl92 Yes there is lots of hope! Keep up your milk supply, get her treated by somebody good and then work with a lactation consultant experienced with tongue tie. If there isn't anyone in your area, try Melissa Cole - she is excellent and does Skype consults. You'll need patience and lots of skin to skin time, especially when your baby is sleepy, to get over the aversion she has developed because breastfeeding is so hard for her right now. If you go on the tongue tie babies support group on Facebook you should be able to find a good provider in your area. I hope that helps!
