Great video! Unfortunately Leroy Diesel does not offer the OBD1 software anymore. 3-30-23 I’m so screwed as I have a customers truck at the shop getting an engine replacement lol
To set the injection pump timing do you simply need to be able to read the timing? I've read online that you have to tell the computer to relearn the timing. I have a 1994 k2500.
You dont always have to do a relearn just by changing the injection pump, it depends on the truck and how far the offset is off by. Its really a truck by truck basis form what I have come across working on them.
I'm looking at purchasing a 98 K2500 6.5, what are some suggestions for what I should do with it if I purchase it (other than moving the pmd)? I will be using it for my daily driver and some light towing.
I would definitely check out my bombproofing series i made awhile back, especially where your going to be towing with it. Everything from keeping the engine cool, lift pump, intake, egr and vacuum pump deletes. Plenty of good info in those videos that may help.
Jesse, I'm trying to set my timing. Do I have to clear TDC OFFSET before changing the offset. Someone on FB posted a procedure of turning key on, engine off then hold throttle floored ft or 45 seconds. Is that the correct procedure? I have '94 and I'm using same software.
got a 2000 C3500 6.5 i do a lot of different things to it as needed. but i struggle at tdc offset and really the relearn is what the problem is. koko timing. is there a trick to it.. please do tell if you know anything that could help
Hi Jesse. Here is one from sunny England. Just bought A 96 ..2500. Problem water leaking around the freeze plugs by the starter motor. Looks like some cracks. 240.000 on the clock and its breathing. Anyway on ebay a 6.5 volvo penta marine motor. Jesse can I use it. Your site is a lifesaver or better an engine saver. Keep it up. Cheers Phil
Hey Phil, that sucks to hear about the frost plugs man. To answer your question, honestly I have no idea. It definitely not a drop in ready to go process, the boat motors run a lower compression ratio that I do know and there are some aspects of the marine motors that just simply won't fit under the hood. However at it's core it's still a 6.5l and I believe it's totally doable, maybe I'm wrong but there is a company called Pennisular diesel, and they are more or less the go to for the marine application motors and they would the ones to talk you through the process of doing so.
The temperature sensor fooler is sold by quadstar tuning. However you can simulate it by making your own with a resister. Remove the plug from your coolant temp sensor and find a resister, install the resister between the plug wires on the plug. So long as the engine temp is at 180°f you will be able to accurately set the timing offset.
I have a problem. My father in law gave me his 6.5 and already had the old pump off so I don’t know where to initially set the timing of the pump based on where the old pump was set. I can’t get it to start because of this. Any idea on what to do?
I would recommend clocking your injection pump back and forth until you're able to get it to hit. If it doesn't hit at all very well could be in bad injection pump however if it was running when it was parked just make sure it was well lubricated before you start really cranking on it.
Hi got question for you 6.5l guys my buddie bought the same software. He has the ip pump installed dot to dot and also did a timming chain while he was in there now hes stuck and I'm not sure exactly what the next steps are to setup the ip pump further on a 94 k2500 6.5l turbo diesel can someone tell me the steps from this point.
Great video, as per usual. And although I'm sure someone could use the money who is selling the products, LOL but is the coolant temp Fooler just a jumper that fits on that connection? Or is there some kind of diode in there to set a specific resistance? 🙂...

Too much fuel or not enough air. If it was running fine without blowing white smoke before then a component is on it's way out. It only does it when you get on it? Not at idle or anything like that?
@@TheClong197833 ok, so if it were an injector I would more or less expect it to do it all the time even at idle, so that pretty much rules out injector sticking open, by chance is your vaccum pump still hooked up?
Yes that is normal, if there is no pressure behind the vapor all is good. What that smoke (haze) is, is residual oil vapor from the crank case. The turbo creates a vacuum to prevent crank case pressures from blowing out seals in your engine. If you disconnect the cdr to turbo hose the turbo is no longer pulling the vapors into the cdr to collect the oil and drain the majority of it back into the engine, which makes it come out the path of least resistance (oil cap) 👍 thank you for clarifying brother
