Where does the chain attach to ? Need a more detailed set up is it identical to a smsll block chevy gas job ? Cause if it is you will need another sprocket for the cam and one on the crank making 3 sprockets total, how do you line them up which dots line up where ? When i went to put my pump back into exact pin location the sprocket on top literally turned by itself like itvwas free floating till the tension on the chain caught it..it was mabe a quarter turn clockwise before the chain tightened up. Now it wont even spudder as i turn the motor over. Im stumped as to why mine will not fire had 4 guys all diesel mechanics look at it brought 1 guy back who worked on them 50 years and replaced thousands of injection pumps told me some days he would do 5 pumps when they were under warranty and pmds were going left n right and he is not be able to figure out why mine will not fire. My dad owns part of a chevy dealership and hes trying to get me to junk the truck cause nobody can get it to run.
Timing chain goes from the crank to the cam. There is a cam gear that sits on top which lines up with the injection pump gear. If you haven't resolved thus DM on Instagram or Facebook @Rubberduckydiesel. I'll get you taken care of
So if the static time is averaged at 3.5 degrees and then you do a Tdc relearn and it is not within -.25 to -.75. How do u get it within that range? Thanks
What is the range that is OK for actual injection timing. I know you said 3.5 is ideal. Would 5.7 be horrible? That is what mine is at. That’s how it was when I bought it.
I would back it off if you can. Even tho it's super close and the moment to get it timed is super small. You still want her on that mark. Get your best life out of it.
Hey how u doing just installed an ip on a 97 6.5 and it's running rough and blowing white smoke .. is there such was told didn't put the pump in correctly..so do I remove it and turn it 360 degrees..
I bought a 94 Chevy with 6.5 it runs ruff someone cut wires on injection pump the one looks like a throttle position sensor and more will this cause it to smoke when cold?
Having a no start issue, went ahead replaced pmd, lift pump...have fuel coming out #1 injector line seems weak, engine will not run any chance its a bad IP?? Or any way to test Ip that you know of
Do you have a video on how to time injection pump on the 93 6.5 Chev mechanical pump? I have it installed but the truck blows white smoke light throttle in low gear when it gets to about 1500 rpm and black smoke at full throttle hi gear. I installed a rebuilt pump but no instructions on how to time.
If my truck is idling high all the time and the high idle solenoid isn't the issue, would my pump timing be the problem? If so, would high idling be advanced or retarded?
Best video I've seen yet! Thanks for the info and great video
Thanks for this, easy to understand and real. Very appreciated. Nice camera operator too.
Thank you. Diving into this for the first time.
Great video, however I believe the correct tdc offset window is negative .25 to negative .75 let me know if I’m wrong but that’s what I’ve read
Anybody just looking for the relearn start at 7:45

I don't have the timing mark on the timing gear cover and I already removed it. What do I need to do?

Also excellent video one of best ones that I have seen thank you so much.

Reset the static timing and perform a TDC relearn

Reassemble and try it.

Check the pmd harness and ground too. It could be a bad pump
Where did you buy your tech 2 scanner that's capable of handling trucks?
Online auction
Thank u
What happens if you don't do the reset and just leave it
It doesn't run as good as it could. Can cause damage to the pistons

Did you line up the timing marks on the pump to the pump housing?

Mechanical? If so, check the throttle cable, they like to get bound up over time
Can snap on scanner do this
Yes
