Two really important take-aways that I think you missed: 1) you’re inspiring thousands (if not millions) of people to shop more sustainably.... a HUGE positive impact 2) you also donate almost every time you thrift Loved this video so much!
Alexa, you and Carrie compelled to go to Plato's Closet today--which I've only ever been to maybe twice...ever. And I got me some Madewell jeans for $20, SCORE!!
Sit in your truth Carrie LOL loved this bc we forget how much we can spend on clothes (you also recouped some cost from poshmark sales so net spent is lower) i really loved this look back on 2019 for you!
Girl I have had some shameful days where I got two items at Lululemon for 200$, then walked over to H&M to spend 80, then 40 at a candle shop ...I’m sure you know where I’m going 😂 So I think that for all the items you thrifted over a FULL YEAR that is a fair and reasonable amount for you to have spent. You spent wisely also! Going on sale days, spending more on items you truly loved... Lots of love Carrie 💜✨
I literally never comment on TH-cam, but I’m following you for a while now and I just want to say how much I love your thrifting content ! I always watch your videos to get inspirations before going thrifting myself. You are so luminous and pretty (inside and out) ✨
The Goodwill I went to in Colorado Springs had a coffee shop in it. Been thrifting in Memphis when a drunk wandered in off the street and straight passed out on one of the couches....it is always an adventure.
omg, I thrifted my first item this weekend!!! I struggle with a fear of germs and have a hard time getting into thrift stores because of it, but you have been so inspiring to me and making me want to shop in a more sustainable way, so thank you for helping me put myself out there and do something out of my comfort zone, I felt really good afterwards!! love you carrie!
Can you maybe do a video on the harmful side effects of middle/upper class people thrifting? Thrift stores are oftentimes the only available option for people with lower class incomes, but thrifting has become so trendy that the only choice many people have is being taken away from them due to rising prices in the thrift industry (due to how trendy it is). I definitely think buying clothes that are sustainable is very important, especially because so many clothes end up in landfills every year, but I also think we should recognize the side effects thrifting might have on those who are less economically fortunate than us who need these low thrift prices in order to have clothes to wear. For some us, thrifting is a choice, but for others, it's a necessity. And I think a lot of big TH-camrs should communicate that to their audience as well.
watch my friend tiffanyferg's video on this exact topic, she did it 1000000x more brilliantly than I ever could! th-cam.com/video/LHkqP5mmB6A/w-d-xo.html
Has anyone added up the total number of items that she got for the whole year? Cuz honestly that still seems like a great deal overall. Yeah you’re gonna have a few overpriced items but then you’re gonna have plenty that are like $1-$5.
Quinn 🦋 I decided to do the math since I have no life lol! Looks like she got 173 items throughout the year so the average cost per item comes out to $8.36. Which is not bad at all, how often do you see items at retailers for that low?!?
You’re an absolute fashion icon!!!💜 I found you last year through thrifting videos and you’re officially one of my top favorite you tubers!🤩💜 thankyou for making these vids, you go Carrie!!!😍
Because of your videos, my wardrobe is now 90% thrifted. I am between a size 12 and 14 so there are often times when I walk away with nothing. BUT....I really love the stuff I have and I am glad I can do this now. Thank you for making it seem so fun and accessible. You inspire me.
Ahh I love Alexandria!! This was such a good idea for a video for you too. Also a good idea for everyone to take a look at how much their spending on things they buy all the time.
I was expecting that to be way more than what it was! I think you did a great job! Can't wait to see what kind of content you bring us in 2020. I'd love to see this video type again.
PLEASE do a palm springs thrifting video with the gals! I'm legit obsessed with all your thrifting content. I was never really into thrifting clothes, but after watching so many of your videos you have changed me! Went to a 50% off sale at my local Savers and found SO many more gems than I expected! I only spent $36 and got 13 clothing items! Thanks for showing me great ways to shop sustainably!
I’ve started thrifting a lot more because of Carrie and I love it so much. I’m going to try to do it a lot more in 2020. Since shopping for my plus sized body is usually such a miserable experience, I think the fun of the hunt and never knowing what gems you will come across makes it so much more enjoyable.
Ummm genuinely thought it would be WAY more than that. $1400 for a badass job and creating content that I LIVE FOR, is really not that bad. You do you. I’m here for it. We’re all here for it. Also, because of you and your girl gang I got ALL of my fall and winter seasonal closet upgrade at Savers and Goodwill, (except for the jeans at AE) and I’m going to do the exact same thing for spring and summer. Pretty much, if it’s not second hand, I’m out. And that’s really because of you. So thank you!! When I started watching you I was a tall, size 12 and now I’m a tall 14-16 so thanks for just being super super helpful to me in styling looks and finding clothes that fit. OH and I got a swimsuit from boho. And oh I’m also getting curtain bangs: and I swear I’m not usually this creepy. I just love your style!!!
Maybe do a Hunt List and Skip List. Things you want to add to your collection for 2020 and things you absolutely do not need this year. Could be interesting to follow along for the hunts. Love any video you put out though! That sweater is gorgeous
Would LOVE to see more Palm Springs videos. My husband and I are stationed in 29 Palms (right outside Joshua Tree National Park) so seeing things closer to our temporary home is so much fun!
No brainer....you did extremely well. $1500 per year for clothing is very reasonable. And you found priceless treasures that no one else has. Saving the environment, saving clothing history, making people happy with your unique and thoughtful gifting, making money having the coolest job ever and creating a truly unique style.....what is not to love!!!!???!!! Great vids, great purchases.....don't second guess yourself. Celebrate your amazing success!!! Love you!!!
It'd be so interesting for you to track what/how much you thrift this year, and what stays in your closet for the whole year....like an inventory-type video (how many tops/bottoms/dresses you start with vs. end up with at the end of the year). Super interesting video!
Thank you for sharing this. You inspired me to total up what I've spent on clothing since Christmas and I was not happy with the total. But that knowledge is power. I'm hoping knowing these numbers will motivate me to maintain a low buy as I continue into 2020.
This video really makes me think hard about my choices as a consumer. In 2020 I’ve kinda made a resolution to myself to not buy any more clothes unless I really wanted it or need it and as I think more about a lot of the clothes in my closet I realize they’re not sustainable for my whole lifetime which is something I’d really like to achieve with my wardrobe while still being fashionable. It’s really hard to find the balance and the willpower when shopping for clothes
I just squealed with joy! Literally squealed!! You (one of my favorite TH-camrs!!!) just did a shoutout to one of my other faves (Alexandria Ryan)!!! My heart is so happy. ❤️
You need to go to midwest farm country. There's a church run thrift store where everything is 25c each near me. It's small, but you can find some true treasures.
Or even in Florida, I live in Tampa and thrift stores near me rarely charge over 5$. I bought a new with tags north face 150$ jacket for 4$. California thrifting is expensive!!
Love this! That total doesn't actually sound that unreasonable...think about how much you would have spent if you purchased the items at retail! Also curious whether these were your only thrift trips or whether you did any that you didn't film.
I honestly don’t feel like that’s much, girl! You kinda killed it.. Also could you elaborate on what you meant when you said thrifting in LA can be sketchy?
Oh I just meant the thrifting scene isn't as poppin and the selection isn't as good as in other areas haha! I guess sketchy wasn't the right word although the thrift stores here are the dirtiest and messiest I've ever seen in my life, so I guess that could apply too lol!
Your rack in the back is giving me next level anxiety 😂 I used to work in retail and although you did a great job sorting by sleeve length/item type and also colour blocking, it should start from lightest/shortest sleeve on the left and continue onto darkest/longest sleeves on the right. Sorry I’m being so annoying I just had to point it out😂😂
Don't feel bad! It's your job. That's why we watch you. And I can put money on the fact that some of us spend more than that on our wardrobes for our regular jobs! For example, my little sister, she will go buy a new outfit a few days a week for work. I'm a thrifter and trying to be more Eco friendly so I appreciate you shopping sustainably. ❤️
I really enjoyed this video! I would also like to know in 2020 like an “inventory” of your thrifting. A rundown not only on the money spent, but if you kept each item, or if you sold them, or if you donated them! ☺️
If you go to Palm Springs, make sure you go to the angel view clearance center!! Just like the goodwill bins but instead of weighing by the pound, all adult clothes is $1!!
Cost VS Value= you still win!! My favorite thrift hall was in march 2019 at goodwill, I spent about $94 but I got maybe 15 tops, some dresses and a few random holiday items
No shame Carrie! I cant even imagine how much I spent thrifting. I just LOVE the hunt. 😁 I'd love to see one for 2020. It makes me think I need to track how much I spend on thrifting. Never stop though...your thrifting videos are awesome!
I would've been interested to see you total up the number of items and do an average price per item. That would've been cool to see if you averaged out your pricier items with your less expensive thrift hauls. Fun video!
I enjoyed this! Would love to get an overview on the cost/brands of each item and which ones are still in your closet. I'm keeping track of that myself because I used to have a high-ish re-donation rate - I'm getting noticeably better at keeping the clothes I thrift, which means I'm understanding my style and comfort needs better!
Another girl in the comment section (her name was Diamond, hi queen if you're reading this) added them up and it was 173! So $8 and something per item!
@Stephanie Bell, I was curious about that myself. I was trying to keep track throughout the video. Unless my math is off, which it could very well be (😂), it looks like she got 184 items for her $1447 total. That makes each item $7.86 on average.
Hey how about the total number of items? To divide total cost for average cost per piece? I really wanted to see that vs across the number of videos count.
I feel like a total of ~$1440 is good. I think it could have been way worse since thrifting is a large part of your video content. That's a little over $50 a video, which ISN'T bad! I enjoyed this video and would be interested in a 2020 total. Excited to keep following you this year :)
Don’t feel bad at all! There are you tubers that spend that on one haul from fashion nova. Or heck a month worth of them showing us they pulled up at Starbucks. No one should judge and anyone who watches you knows there will be thrifting, that’s how many people found you in the first place. You keep on shining brightly don’t let anyone dim your light. I know sometimes it’s hard.
I love Queen and your thrifting videos! We have a similar style although I prefer jeans to bike shorts. I live in a small town in Ohio that has a great goodwill and there are several others in the surrounding areas that are great. When I go there, i intentionally look for high end brands (AE, madewell, Express etc and vintage band tees). At my latest I found a Calvin Klein sheath dress for $6.00 and a beautiful leather jacket that slightly oversized for $13. My most expensive item to date was $30 and it was MY WEDDING DRESS with original tags priced at $595.00. It needs alterations (hem and the back lowered to fit but SO WORTH IT! I really liked this, but also out of all those items and the $1,440.00 how many did you resell on posh mark or gift to people?
How about a “Thrift Across the U.S.” where you thrift in all 50 states!?!
OMG that would be so much fun!!!!
I SECOND THAT
3rd!!!
4th
I want to do that myself
Two really important take-aways that I think you missed:
1) you’re inspiring thousands (if not millions) of people to shop more sustainably.... a HUGE positive impact

Loved this video so much!
I’m too scared to do this hahahha also YOUR OUTFIT YES
Alexa, you and Carrie compelled to go to Plato's Closet today--which I've only ever been to maybe twice...ever. And I got me some Madewell jeans for $20, SCORE!!
I NEED YOU TO DO IT LOL
OMG PLS DO IT i'm so interested
you inspired me to thrift more and now my closet is only 20% new clothes and the rest is thrifting :)
Haha same I basically only buy brand new items from American Eagle & thrift everything else😂♥️
I love the combo of the forest green top and rusty orange headband!!! Very eclectic!
Kassi P yesss I want that sweater
Kassi P I love that top she thrifted if it ever makes her Poshmark I'm calling dibs.... lol
I’d love to see you calculate what you spent at “normal” stores as well! I know you got a ton of good hauls at AE!
That's honestly not bad at all! Especially considering it's part of your job! Plus, it was all sustainable shopping, so good on you!
Sit in your truth Carrie LOL loved this bc we forget how much we can spend on clothes (you also recouped some cost from poshmark sales so net spent is lower) i really loved this look back on 2019 for you!
Girl I have had some shameful days where I got two items at Lululemon for 200$, then walked over to H&M to spend 80, then 40 at a candle shop ...I’m sure you know where I’m going 😂

I can’t fathom why people hate on you. You are one of the most genuine, refreshing, kind people I see on the platform. It just isn’t that serious!
I have friends that spend that in one day in one store ( not used) and never use the items. You are doing a great job , keep on thrifting
Considering some people spend $1000 on 1 pair of socks.. I think that isn't to bad.
I literally never comment on TH-cam, but I’m following you for a while now and I just want to say how much I love your thrifting content ! I always watch your videos to get inspirations before going thrifting myself. You are so luminous and pretty (inside and out) ✨
How much did you spend on clothing that wasn't thrifted? I'd be interested in seeing the comparison
I think we all should keep track of what we spend throughout the year. 👏
Such a good idea. It would make me feel more accountable.
The Goodwill I went to in Colorado Springs had a coffee shop in it. Been thrifting in Memphis when a drunk wandered in off the street and straight passed out on one of the couches....it is always an adventure.
@@margoedwards3035 hahaha really? That would be hilarious and never unexpected!

Still cheaper than a LV bag!!
Love you thrift queen!
LOVE this perspective lol YESSSS

So much effort and work went into this video! Love you Carrie

How many items? That makes a difference. I think most people spend more to refresh/maintain their wardrobe yearly.

I really liked this, but also out of all those items and the $1,440.00 how many did you resell on posh mark or gift to people?
Yesss. I found you through your jetrag video last year 👏
