So far I have nothing to tow, and no family other than my wife, and I want an excursion just to do the upgrades as a hobby project. This is how powerful this SUV is. !!!
The Excursion is definitely an awesome vehicle, for sure! I've seen some awesome builds. I just couldn't justify the $ and time to "try" to make it what I needed and since then I got a Lance Truck camper that I plan to use for my out of town wheeling trips.
I own 2005 Ford excursions that were fire department issued FDNY captain trucks. They both have the Ford F350 front and Axles And yes, they do have bigger everything. I don't know if it was. Government issue trucks were built differently than civilian, but even the Frame has everything from an F350. Every time I go to a part store I have the reference F350 calibers. Rotors, I mean everything HD
I am looking at doing the same thing on my '01 7.3, look forward to seeing the build. Subscribed and followed. Now I gotta find a 05-07 rolling chassis
Thanks man. I didn't expect the country to take a huge dump either with everything skyrocketing... so unfortunately I'll probably have to postpone this a little longer than u thought... but definitely gonna happen
@@BuildItWheelItExploreIt sorry, I meant the stock gear ratio didn't matter anymore since you're going to swap axles. Unless you're swapping gears or got the 4.30 as your donor. But you know all that! Excursion axle swap not happening now?
@sledhead904 no, not gonna happen now... after thinking it all through it really wouldn't make sense to spend X amount of money and still not have the capacity I really need. So I sold the Excursion and bought a 2015 Ford F350 Super Duty, crew cab, long box, dually, 4x4. I'll be doing a wall around video on that soon, not that it's a super special truck but just an overview how much better it does than the Excursion did and the more possibilities I have with an actual truck. If you watch my channel/subscribe I've started mentioning and showing a truck camper and the plans with that....
Thanks, gonna depend on a lot of things. I know around me you can usually find a 2005+ chassis with axles for around $1000. So that would give you the matching set of axles and all the brackets. Depending what gears and differentials you want or need will add to the cost, and freshen up everything. So $1000 - 3000 depending.

@@BuildItWheelItExploreIt unfortunately everyone is feeling that. Current state of affairs sure fucked up my plans, for now.
Hoping for the best... but we need a change asap!
Did you find a donor chassis? If so could you tell how you found one? I would like to do this swap also.
@davem3789 guy was selling this as you see it. I see full rolling chassis a lot for $800-1200 here in MI
4.30's don't matter now when you swapping them out! Lol
What ya mean?

Looking good...I knew you were going with 35's 3 minutes in to the video!
A muddy tow rig. Thx for getting my trailer out today.
You wouldn’t have gotten your trailer stuck if it had TONS
whats the average cost for this swap

Put a Eaton in the front too
If you want to sell your ATS springs, let me know. I’m in Michigan as well.
Do you know the axle code of the donor truck? Im looking at buying a 3L from a local yard.......
For the donor D60? It's an open diff I know since I've had the cover off, didn't check gear ratio yet.. I don't have the 05+ sterling 10.5 yet..
If it’s a dedicated tow rig, go 5.13 gears. You won’t be sorry.
BUT ITS GOT SUM TONS COMING
Needs a Cummins now. Am I right Person Man 👍
@@906rootedoffroad A Cummins and TONS is the only combo worth swapping!
Person man ford gave the f250s of the 99-04 era a Dana 50 to it not excursion exclusive
