    Finally found a detail video to do my 2005 excursion!! Thanks for the info! Have most of the parts. No need to go spend a whole bunch of money on custom brackets and coil buckets. I am doing a drop bracket for a 4.5” lift. Thanks again! Screenshot video and put it under favorites! 🔥🔥🔥

    Great video. Going to do my truck this summer. I’ve tried so many different brand leaf springs to make it ride better and I give up. Love that extended crows foot socket for the pitman arm nut! Never saw that before I’ll be definitely buying on of them this week!

      Torque adapters have their uses. This is one of them! Lol
      Aftermarket springs always have an issue. They are never what they should be. The axle swap is a no brainer for me.

    I swapped an 07 into my 03. Tremendous improvement to the ride, truning radius and handling. Lowered coil towers 4.5" for lift with factory coils. Slot the holes in the bottom of ur radius arms to adjust ur camber. Completed in 09.

      The parts list varies depending on the truck donor, as well as what you’d fully need. So there isn’t a cut and dry list so to speak. The basics on what you’d need is covered in this video and a few others related to the axle swaps. But other than that. It’s a few bolts you’d have to buy.

    Having a ratchet strap is handy to locate the axle to get the track bar bolt in without risking having a lot of weight on the axle to line it up, the frame can be on the jacks and just pull the axle to where you need it.
    Does the engine have a bedplate? Seems the only reason to cut the crossmember to allow space for a lower pan.

    • @GarrettsOBSGarage
      @GarrettsOBSGarage  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ive done the jack stand and ratchet strap method, and its not nearly as trust worthy! haha
      Yes, it does have a bedplate, and thats why the crossmember was so hacked up, I feel like they could have done a better job with it.

    Nice clearly explained vid with no rock music or exciting drama added🤔
    Is the extra 4" of width because it is going from Dana 50 to Dana 60? Or did they widen the track on everything from 05+?

    • @GarrettsOBSGarage
      @GarrettsOBSGarage  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The lack of drama hurts my views. However I don’t like dragging people along. The width is because they changed the wheel mounting surface (WMS) to WMS width in 2005. So the surface that the wheel mates to when it’s secured to the axle grew from side to side. So that’s why each side would stick out 2” if you used the 99-04 wheels, if they were larger than 16”. That’s why the 20” wheels on this truck stick out a little more, as they were meant for the 99-04 axles.

      Bingo! Exactly the way I would do the swap.....set a 1999 - 2004 Cab / Pickup Box on a 2005 - 2007 Chassis (Frame, Suspension, Axles). I've checked with a few salvage yards and the cost for a complete 2005 - 2007 chassis is very reasonable. Dang Shame Ford did not use the front coil suspension on the 2005 Excursions.
      Regarding the Excursion, not sure if I want OEM Super Duty front coil suspension parts OR One Up OffRoad front coil suspension parts....either way Dana 60 in the front along with 2005 - 2007 Ford 10.5 rear axle assembly. Most likely will use the One Up OffRoad kit.
      BTW, the 10.5 rear axle assembly was not made by 'Sterling'. Instead, the 10.5 was built by Ford Motor Company (FoMoCo) at their axle plant located in Sterling Heights Michigan.

      The axle is technically the same internally, you can upgrade the axle shafts to the 17+ style with the larger u joints like in the video on the 2001 F250.
      The wheel bearings are larger. And the brakes are larger. The suspension is also better. And the turning radius is much tighter. The 05+ stuff is a lot easier to find and in my opinion better than the 99-04 stuff.

    My truck is getting a little death wobble so im guessing im going to try to do this this winter once riding weather goes away and the truck gets a little restz for now ill just try to replace the bushings and see if that helps it hold up for a little bit.
    Is there a part list anywhere to buy the parts individually?

    • @GarrettsOBSGarage
      @GarrettsOBSGarage  27 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      I generally recommend a rolling chassis. It gets you most of the parts you'd need at one time. Buying all of it individually costs more money over the course of the project. If you haven't seen the axle swap selection video, I'll share it here.
      th-cam.com/video/-FORxavc25g/w-d-xo.html
      However, buying individual parts depends on what axles you buy, and what your trucks configuration is, as each truck is different. Which is why I suggest buying a roller, and if you can get the roller in your trucks configuration, and transmission setup, it makes it even better. The main parts you'll need are coil buckets, radius arm mounts, track bar, track bar bracket, and steering box. You'd need to decide on a track bar, if changing height, coil springs, if changing height and ride, shocks, shock mounts, radius arms, axles, wheels, bolts to be purchased or reused, brake line modifications, driveshaft changing, or modifying. I cover a lot of these subjects in the videos I've uploaded on the 05 Axles swaps on the OBS and SD trucks. But a definitive go to list is hard to put together due to the variables of what you want, what you bought, and what you want to spend.

      The rear differential. Minus gears will. The front, if you already have a 60, will. There are changes that happened to the pinion sizes for the rear axle and I don’t know what the year breakdowns are for those. The fronts may have also changed, but I am not sure of that either. The differentials themselves should change over though. We did the rear one on another truck. But never a front.

      Yes, the frames are not different between 2wd and 4wd as far as I know. The holes used in this swap were some of the original holes for the 2wd radius arms, and coil buckets.

      @GarrettsOBSGarage this was originally a 2wd truck ? Converted to 4wd, then swapped to 05 axles?

      No. It was always 4wd. But the holes were there if it was 2wd

      @GarrettsOBSGarage ah okay. My mistake. Excellent video by the way. I'm not feeling too bad about tackling this now. My biggest hang up is going to be the drive train. Zf6 manual. I'm probably going to have to source a complete 4wd setup somewhere. I can't remember if it's a slip yoke or a flange on the stock transmission.

    • @GarrettsOBSGarage
      @GarrettsOBSGarage  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      No worries!
      Yeah, you’ll have to find a 4wd ZF6 and it’s matching transfer case. The driveshafts will be flanges on both sides. That will probably be the hardest part.

    I never understood why people get a 1 ton or a 3/4 truck and get it with a short bed, you can’t do much with them other than just drive them, i’ve seen people total the back of their cab because they hit it with a gooseneck or 5th wheel trailer.

      Drive a crew cab xlt plus with an 8 foot bed for a year or two then jump in a smaller truck and you will be like omg im free i can roam into this parking lot at full speed and act like a normal citizen and not have to park all the way in the back cause you drove titanic to the supermarket!

      If it's your daily driver and you don't actually haul a crap load of $hit, there's no reason for a 8ft bed. A cclb is really long and parking is tight when almost 30' long. I like eclb trucks for actual tool carrying abilities, cause I'd just fill the back seat up with tools, anyways if I had a cc. Eclb & ccsb are same length overall, just arranged differently. 👍🏻👌🏻🤔😅🛠️🔩🔧

      I bought 30 1/2" x 1.5" long bolts for all the brackets and reused some of the original bolts from the 05+ truck and 99 truck for the track bar mount.

      @@GarrettsOBSGarage I’m in the process of doing a4x4 swap on my 01 f350 superduty dually which already has coil springs,I bought an front axle from an 03-04 f450 with coil springs, I know my radius arms and brake lines will have to be changed and I was thinking that the pitman arm as well but do I need to change the steering box,but what else would I have to do and or is it compatible?

    • @GarrettsOBSGarage
      @GarrettsOBSGarage  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@warrenjackson4869 F450 wasn’t coil sprung until 2005. So I assume you’re using the 05+ axle. The 99-04 steering box won’t accept the 05+ steering linkage or pitman arm. The coil buckets from the 99-04 trucks are styled after the OBS coil buckets. So that also needs changed. The radius arm mounts are also different as well. It’s basically the same process as outlined in the videos for your truck.

      @@GarrettsOBSGarage yeah, I was told it was either 03-04 but it came off of an HD service bed truck. I did also have the spring buckets from that truck along with the radius arms. I was just curious because your video kept saying 05-07 and the guy told me what he had was a 03-04 but I’m sure you right. We just cut his frame so I do have steering box and all.

      @@warrenjackson4869 there are a lot of people who say things. But don’t have any backing behind them. The truck was probably built in 2004. As a 2005. So he said it was an 04. It’s good you have it all. Because you’ll need it all.
