  • In this episode, I make a jig for my Festool Domino. I'm making a bedhead for a customer and I need to position the Dominos repeatedly and accurately, so I made this jig.
    I hope you enjoy this video.

    Thank you for sharing your ideas on an awesome jig. If you are into microjig hardware, you can simplify that build by making the two slots from a dovetail bit.

      Thanks Ainslee. I think it would probably work just as well with a biscuit joiner. 👍👍

    I do like a nice bit of form ply workshop action... bed to be filmed?

      Thanks James. Yes, the bed is being filmed, and it's going to be an epic. Might have to make it a 2 or 3 parter. 👍👍

    Hi Chris, awesome jig and video. I'm considering 21mm formply as tabletop on an outfeed table / workbench. Would you recommend that?

    • @BuiltByChris
      @BuiltByChris  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Jesper, yes I would. The thickness will give you a great surface to work on. Looking forward to seeing the video of the build. Cheers mate. 👍👍

      @@BuiltByChris thanks I'll go ahead and buy a sheet of that. Are you launching videos from your recent shop build, or did I just miss them?

    Measure twice and drill once! G'day Chris, I need one of these jigs like a fish needs a bicycle but it is a pure pleasure to watch you work! I like the positioning nuts that screw down onto the bolts, never seen those over here.
    Just a thought Chris, if I am registering two slippery surfaces I lay a couple of very small patches of double sided adhesive of the low tack sort. Easy to wipe off with a smidge of WD40.
    A chap who lives in Melbourne that appears in a chatroom I frequent says you are in a five day lockdown, we are in a lockdown that has lasted forever and will go on for the same length of time! Hope you get a few barbies in before you get the cold weather and I hope your workshop transformation is working out. Had my first Covid jab a week ago today, 12 weeks to go to the second one and it cannot come soon enough! It was the Astra Zenica which gave me a few difficult days but better a short stuggle than the virus! If you get the Pfizer one it seems to have no side effects whatever I hope you get yours asap and Dirk also.
    Thanks for a splendid video Chris, take care and keep warm, Eryk 🎬👍😃

      Thanks Eryk. We've just come out of the 5 day lock down and the general feeling is that it was totally unnecessary. Don't want to get into the politics of it, but a lot of people believe that our "glorious" leader is on a power trip. We were put into our 129 day lock down due to his incompetence and now he's taking credit for getting us out of it. I'll never understand politics.
      I hope you are looking after yourself, and I'm glad that you are getting your shots. This virus is certainly a horrible one and the sooner we eradicate it, the better. We should be getting our shots here in the not too distant future.
      Thanks again Eryk for your comments, glad you enjoyed the video and please stay safe. 👍👍👍

    Another great video Chris ! Very smart way to solve a problem with that jig. That formply looks interesting, does that stay nice and flat ? I bought regular ply once from bunnings and it warped before I got home ! If that formply stays flat I might get some. Keep up the good work mate 👍👍

    • @BuiltByChris
      @BuiltByChris  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks mate, yes, the formply is very stable. I think that it is a very under utilised product. I'm actually going to try and make some moulds from it and see if that works. Cheers mate. 👍👍

    • @MindMatterCreate
      @MindMatterCreate 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BuiltByChris Ok, I might have to get some then. It might work for moulds provided you use epoxy (maybe try a small amount first to see if it releases clean). The only thing is you have to remove one wall of the mould to get the casting out so you would need some threaded inserts in the edge of the plywood so you can screw and unscrew them repeatedly. They might leak too but a small bead of hot glue works great (I use it on my hdpe moulds that I made) and hotglue peels off easy when you need to remove the wall. Ill have to give it a try, hdpe is way too expensive.

    How do you stop the DF500 from moving side to side when actually drilling the hole? Especially with 5mm dominos, this is a constant problem for me especially in plywood.
