I could watch her talk about her life and past for hours. She's an amazing author.

As a Bengali my heart melted when she pronounced Satyjit Ray's name in a proper Bengali accent. I admire her.

How is all these great people connected to each other though directly or indirectly. Satyajit Ray and Jhumpa lahiri. One's the winner of Oscar and another Pulitzer.

Damn, bruh! The color filter used on this video looks amazing!!! Congrats for the responsible one for doing that! The camera angle and the quality of the video are very good, not to mention the audio quality! For me, you guys are professionals!

sounds like objectification. Why do women who are not white have to be called exotic ??

She should be pronouncing Calcutta as Kolkata - the authentic Bangla pronunciation.

I was born and raised in India, have lived abroad for the past 37 years, am a serious cinephile of the nth order and watch films from all across the world. Naturally I am closely acquainted with Indian cinema in a number of languages not to mention classic and contemporary cinema from across the world. I would be very interested in knowinh what she is watching and has watched. She seems to be a bit full of herslef frankly.

A problem that i've noticed with Criterion Collection's TH-cam videos, is that you never really get in what context are they. for example if I don't know who this is, I can't really understand what are they talking about and just, what is this video about, really. I can't enjoy it. it happens a lot here.

This is Jhumpa Lahiri, a famous author, a Pulitzer winner. They are talking about Bengali cinema she grew up watching.

Her mother watched a lot of Hindi and Bengali films. Does not make her passionate about cinema.

Seriously......from what I know she cannot read or write Bengali which is technically her mother-tongue. I don't think she speaks it well either. I speak 6 languages fluently including Bengali (and French) and I am not originally from Bengal.

Yes it's always seemed strange that she could not learn her own mother tongue, which was all around her, and accessible, and had to go and immerse herself in Italian, because she needed a language of her own!
      Honestly.

@@ByHerGrace22 @umadixit5920 Successful women in the public eye have always been easy targets for armchair critics who are dissatisfied with themselves. I wonder who you will criticize next? Seriously and Honestly!
