This is such a great history lesson, I always wondered what the story behind the statue was?Thank you for bringing it to the light, there’s so much Zambian history that we didn’t get a chance to learn In school unfortunately, we have heroes within our own country that don’t get recognized, but I’m so glad that you were able to shine the light on his beautiful story and may his soul rest in peace.🙏🏾

Totally agree I never learnt about the statue till now. Also to add the government should honour these heros and also accommodate them with nicer places

Really it's an impressive rich Zambian history, l second this be incorporated into Zambian curriculum too. We appreciate and be thankful for our grand parents across the country, for the struggle and sacrifice they rendered for this political independence and freedom we are enjoying. Thank you Mwansa for this wonderful information. God bless mother Zambia.

Thank you for this Educative information... Zambia is really rich with lots of things including wisdom from our Elders. Indeed treat them with respect you might just be talking to a freedom fighter. Books of remembrance will definitely be opened and his family will enjoy the fruits of his labor...🇿🇲🇿🇲🇿🇲🙏

This Zambia's freedom statue is where Macky got and adopted the kopala dance. I wondered why he could dance like that everytime on every stage he performs knowing hes inspired by the great freedom fighter.

How did zambia neglect such a patriotic legend like Mr Mutembo??? This man should have been given special treatment throughout his life time for the way he fought for mother zambia.

    Lessons to be learned:
    1) Let Zambians themselves research and write their own history.
    2) The history should encompass both oral and written narratives.
    3) Some of the people who witnessed the liberation struggle are still alive, let us tap into their knowledge
    4) Chiefdoms are a valuable source of such knowledge. Let us hear their side of the story.
    5) Let us disseminate such information for the benefit of young people. If you do not t know your history then you have no identity.
    6) I appeal to the History Association of Zambia to vigorously pursue this matter.
    7) If we do not write our own history, someone else will write it for us

It is such a shame how Zambia has failed to honor or provide for all these people who put their lives on the line for the freedom and peace Zambia has maintained all these years. The leadership embezzles money into their pockets on the shoulders of these hero, who are left to suffer all their lives.

It baffles my mind that a men of his stature who was later held in high esteem by the colonial government but his contribution to the struggle was quickly swept under the rug by Kaunda’s administration & died a pauper. He didn’t receive the recognition he deserves . Sad 😢

    • @istandwithzambia4035

Because they were poor. Blacks were good for nothing as far as the white settlers were concerned. I’ve got a few more history videos on life in northern Rhodesia way before Zambia was created please watch them so that you have more context. Please also watch the early years Kaunda video
