    I've been here nearly 7 months, tried out Hua Hin for 2.5 months and have been in Bangkok ever since. I must say, hate being on this side of Cambodia during the fire season, next year I'll be heading to Vietnam instead. I'd say the worst month has been January so far for AQI in Bangkok. I'm going back home to California to visit family and go to a friends wedding. I plan on returning in early July. I don't think I'll stay in Bangkok again long-term. I visited Buriram recently and really dug the chill vibes, albeit far less amenities. Headed to Phuket tomorrow for my first time, will definitely be considering that as a place to stay a while as well! Keep it up Pete. Thanks for the vids.

      Yeah, a lot of people don’t realize that Cambodia is where most of the smoke comes from. I think I’ll plan my trip to the states for burning season next year.

    Another great one! And a cliffhanger too! You do realize at one point you say you're on the gulf of Mexico? i kinda doubt that. Maybe i misheard? Too bad about burning season but i love your explanation. Congrats on cutting sugar too! One thing you may not know about losing weight: evidently, when you cut your calories and keep them low your body adjusts and so sometimes you stop losing weight because your body just uses fewer calories, or something like that. That's when exercise is important if i remember correctly. Love the clip of Blues night at the new discovery. (Already forgot the name. i'll have to watch this one again.) Making a list of must-sees for when i come to visit.

    Gulf of Mexico? Typical Californian. Ha. Nice vid Pete! Glad you're doing well! During the smokey season, I've heard many expats (and Thais) living in Ching Mai move south. I know a girl from San Diego who lives in CM and does this each year .. moving down to Koh Samui during the smokey season. Might be a hassle to move twice a year, but if you really like Chiang Mai, then maybe it's also just like taking two long vacations a year. :)

  • @aaronbux1
    @aaronbux1 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Losing weight tip! Delay. Meaning, for example, if you typically eat breakfast shortly after you wake up .. push that breakfast back by an hour or so. Later (in a month?) maybe you can go two hours. If you are like me and you at least need a coffee, then go for it. (I also eat a banana). But anything more substantial, just delay it. This of course pushes any other meal back too .. and soon enough you'll find your belly has shank (literally not being able to eat as much) and you might only be eating two meals in a day instead of three. Keep up the walking and exercise to burn extra calories. I lost 20 lbs .. I didn't even know I had to lose! .. over two years doing this .. without sacrificing any foods I enjoy, etc. Oh, and I strongly suggest eating oats and beans. Great fillers to keep hunger at bay and good for you. I always put oats (and protein powder) in my fruit smoothies. Happy trails!

    • @peteonretreat2023
      @peteonretreat2023  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Great advice. I already only eat once or twice a day. Have for most of my life. What’s funny is I have low weigh ins on the days after I eat bigger meals. I think I eat so little my body is hoarding the fat. I might experiment with that this week.

    • @OneJame
      @OneJame 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's better to fast for dinner than breakfast. Just look up videos from Thomas DeLauer, he goes over this extensively with data and studies conducted. Fasting is a powerful weight loss and longevity tool. I lost about 60lbs in 4 months by implementing fasting into my life.

    Talk about communicating with locals is it easy to communicate? Does everyone speak English? What about reading signs, menus, etc. looks like there is a lot of English in the background of your videos. What about watching TV, are there English channels? I think the language barrier is the biggest thing that intimidates me from traveling to the region.

    • @peteonretreat2023
      @peteonretreat2023  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The language barrier can be challenging but it you live in one of the bigger cities, it’s really easy. Everywhere has menus and signs in English and nearly everyone that you do business with (taxi drivers, delivery people, shop keepers, etc) knows enough English. Sometimes an order might be messed up at a restaurant, or a driver may not understand more specific requests but that’s the worst I’ve had to deal with here.

    • @peteonretreat2023
      @peteonretreat2023  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      And for tv… the Thai Netflix is great! First off, it’s cheaper. Then it has a ton of English movies and shows as well as Thai programs. Lots of English movies with Thai subs and vice versa so it’s nice for watching with your partner.

    Pete, is the new Thai tax law worrying you and your expat friends at all? Retried Working For You put out an excellent vid (This new Thai tax law .. ) about two months ago on it. Seems the Thai gov't will be taxing expats for current, future and even past years income, pensions, etc. The comments below that vid are discouraging to say the least .. many saying they will now be looking to Vietnam or the Philippines. Wondering what you're hearing. Thanks!

    • @peteonretreat2023
      @peteonretreat2023  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I’ll have to check out his video. I’m not really worried at all. If they try to tax me I’ll just move. There’s a lot of discussion but most of the advice I’ve seen from lawyers is sit and wait. Thailand would lose most of they try it with the expats (doesn’t mean they won’t). Most of the people I talk to say they’ll leave if they see anything higher than 10% and some say they’ll leave if there’s any tax.
      I see people talking a lot but it’s all rumors. I don’t have a Thai tax ID number… I can’t even file taxes here.
