Get a base RWD 230i with a 6 speed manual, put a tune on it, upgrade the suspension, new tires/wheels, upgrade brakes, and it's probably as good as a M2, and cost alittle less assuming you do the work yourself. Of course getting something out of the factory means warranty and reliability but I guess that's what you get for saving 10k.
These BMW 2.0s are the most underrated engines on the market. The Pontiac solstice GXP had a 2.0 liter turbo that did 260hp and 260 torque - 10 years ago from GM who knew nothing about turbos. I suspect this engine is closer to 300hp/300 ftlb Also begs the question, how would the m240 do? Can't discount the role that the transmission differences play here though....
Jacob that is the rating BMW assigns for marketing purposes. BMW is notorious for under rating their engines. This car probably makes close to the 250hp at the wheels / 280-300 at the crank. Horsepower measurement is a very gray science when it comes to how manufacturers apply it. They did the same thing with the latest M3 too.... under rated it by about 50hp.
WRONG... You're just toeing the line... BMW like other manufactures in Germany (most of Europe) use DIN measuring for power. If you follow DIN measuring specs, you're going to come to about the same rating the BMW publishes. I've seen European dynos basically show the BMW factory published numbers with in a few hp +/-. What you've probably seen are dyno results from God know what dyno brand/model under whatever conditions that use some kind of formula to try and figure out the crank power while using a roller dyno... Or whp dyno results then use some crazy 15% loss from crank to wheel to try and calculate the crank hp... This ain't gonna work.. About the only thing the average dyno is good for is to test mods.. Get a baseline dyno, then dyno it again with the mod.. That's what most dynos are good for.
Cars are not only for speed,.... BMW have so beautiful and well design cars, i just love them. BUT not all of them, personally i dont like the x series, but the sport cars that bmw made, maybe are not the fastest cars in the world but definetetly are attractive, have nice sport sound, and they are fast there on way. For the video i have to say for a 2.0 l engine, bmw 2 series has done a good job i think
The track package on the XDrives suspensions isn’t any better than stock X-Drive; track package only makes a difference suspension wise on the RWD models. A rwd track package 228i rwd should be even quicker. About 300lbs lighter than a 230i xdrive and the n20 is quicker than the b48.
I have a Track package S-Line 228i, it’s quicker and it’s AWD. The 2 series are by far the best of all Beamers. Mines quicker than all the 230is and it’s still stock
The 230i is fast and also a good-handling car and who knows, maybe the 4-cylinder makes the chassis better-balanced! But again, seeing the M2 drifting and turning, I tend to say this doesn't matter! The 4-cylinder is just a compromise for someone who can't afford a 6-cylinder version (like the M2 or the M240i) or someone who can't afford the 6-cylinder engine's running costs! Doesn't sound good, it's colourless compared to the 6-cylinder models but when economics matter, it's much better! And in Europe, we are charged depending on how much CO2 a car emits! That's why the 2-Series is also offered with a 1.5 3-cylinder, a version called the 218i and placed below the 220i and 230i (with the same 2-liter 4-cylinder engine!)! At least, the handling is a big plus, even with the less powerful engines and even for someone who can't afford the 6-cylinders! Fun fact: the 3-cylinder sounds better than the 4-cylinder!
So the 230i is either a hot car or a cool car? Both of of those are good things. You either have a hot car or nice, cool car. Your 0-60 times are irrelevant to the other 49 states who are not a mile above sea level. Hope this helps.
I'm on my 3rd 230iand my lease was up and now that BMW is not producing the convirtable l decided to test drive and possibly buy the 2022 430i convirtable . Not! That car is not near the car my 2019 BMW 230i convirtable is . I decided to buy my 230i . Not sorry about that decision.
Frank White I've been fortunate enough that only the water pump and a charge pipe have failed on me in the past 30k 👍 I'm sure something else is coming soon .
Looks like the M2 is only 2 seconds faster on your dinky track. So all of that extra power and two extra cylinders goes where? Probably to the think ass air y'all test these cars in. Lol
I don't care if the *30i four pot cars are underrated. They sound gutless and dull. I once drove a 220i and man was this thing a slug. The Sound was annoying just like we hear here. The 8spd auto was terrible because it only shifts fast when in sport mode but then the engine revs stupidly high. When being in eco the car starts to fight the driver - ultimate bummer. Remain in comfort it is the least annoying but not exciting. I would rather go for the three cylinder this one has a more interesting sound is more sensible and not much slower than the 2.0.
It's funny how people always mention bmw as "junk", meanwhile BMW never makes it in the top ten of the most unreliable brand from any customers reports.
So let me get this straight... ///M-cars are all "slow"? Is that what you're saying. Even using BMW and fast in the same sentence is an oxymoron because BMW literally = "Slow". Am I understanding you right?

So according to the times listed...the 230i set a faster lap time than the 340i? That's damn impressive.
Owned two M-3s loved them both.
M240i. No options, just manual and Sunset orange paint. Much better.
Yup, that's all you need.
Or 230i with $500 into it and youll get an even better track car with the same power
Thank you so much for reviewing a non Chrysler. Reviewing garbage cars nobody outside of Detroit would buy gets old after a while.
Yes I'll have one with a manual transmission please.
But one used for 23k, then it's a great car.
Letting you know I did exactly that a week ago.

Strunz0 Cars the 230 engine is like 248 hp
The 8 speed play big part of this acceleration too.

Strunz0 Cars I can tell you my car doesn't feel like it has 300 hp 😂 If it did it would be under 5 seconds 0-60

It’s 3.0
Interesting that the 230 is faster than the 340 here. It seems like it would be even faster with just RWD.
Can confirm, it’s faster than a 340i. In straightaway’s and corners. With a tune it makes m3’s sweat.
The track package on the XDrives suspensions isn’t any better than stock X-Drive; track package only makes a difference suspension wise on the RWD models.

Yep. Researching a 228i m sport now. Surprising performance
50k for the performance package???.. why not just get a M240i?
Almost as fast as the Hellcat!
I have a Track package S-Line 228i, it’s quicker and it’s AWD. The 2 series are by far the best of all Beamers. Mines quicker than all the 230is and it’s still stock
No point buying the m2 then?

Straight line yes, back roads, no.

he just complained about m2 understeer?
Where are the Audi sport sedans?
wait... a 2016 civic did it in 1:11 and the 2017 civic si did it in 1:09.... just 2 seconds faster???
2 seconds is a lot when it comes to track times
Just buy an N54 powered BMW, throw $1500 in parts and you'll be nearing 500hp .
And be prepared for it to blow up at every given mile
bimmerzonly: no warranty and less
reliability
Frank White I've been fortunate enough that only the water pump and a charge pipe have failed on me in the past 30k 👍 I'm sure something else is coming soon .
Driving experience is far more than just pure power output
Big fan of the german cars
County W nice great American rides like Ford and Chevy
Looks like the M2 is only 2 seconds faster on your dinky track. So all of that extra power and two extra cylinders goes where? Probably to the think ass air y'all test these cars in. Lol
For a daily fast driver, the 230i manual any day.
That thing looks like a shoe on wheels.
Airbender Opal look at the z3 coupe
Bme stands for break my window as in bmw drivers like to park infront of fire hydrants
unfortunately nothing can substitute an M.. wish it can.. i cant afford any M car i want also and it sucks..

Does not have M pkg. Looks like a girl's car
straight 4s sucks. i6s are great.
If you get a BMW it's because you either get a 6 inline or a v8 (turbo both ) anything else it's just buying a soulless BMW .
Rey Perez i wouldnt buy a bmw v8
Therefore im deiving my fifth i6 bmw
BMW 1600ti, 2002ti, M3 (1985-1991), 320is, 318is all nice 4 cilinders engines and magnificent cars with a lot of caracter.

H Smith Take a 2.3 Ecoboost plastic garbage. The pony.
It's funny how people always mention bmw as "junk", meanwhile BMW never makes it in the top ten of the most unreliable brand from any customers reports.
TheGbizaille and they never rate in the top ten of any race or category for fastest anything
Overpriced
German
Junk
Kristopher Klassen you are joking, right? Did you see even watch this video?
BMW is overpriced. And worst of all, BMW aren't made as great as they used to be,
false
It is about the sound...this makes none...
Lol BMW and fast in the same sentence is an oxymoron
Kristopher Klassen Well they're fast around tracks and stuff
Kristopher Klassen ... you're an idiot
jamviator oooooo good one
NS again. Oxymoron
So let me get this straight... ///M-cars are all "slow"? Is that what you're saying. Even using BMW and fast in the same sentence is an oxymoron because BMW literally = "Slow". Am I understanding you right?
