  • In this lesson I show you how to use a small ball to really improve the mobility of your core. As we get older its very easy to forget just how important it is to have not just a strong core but a mobile core too. As martial artists and dancers know all too well the ability to initiate movement from your centre is the foundation of all good movement.
    A baby begins to learn this from their first day.
    Important medical information which you should read before undertaking the lesson: Always consult your physician before beginning any exercise program. These lessons are not intended to diagnose any medical condition or to replace your healthcare professional. Consult with your healthcare professional to design an appropriate exercise prescription. If you experience any pain or difficulty with these exercises, stop and consult your healthcare provider. If you experience any symptoms of weakness, unsteadiness, light-headedness or dizziness, chest pain or pressure, nausea, or shortness of breath. Mild soreness after exercise may be experienced after beginning a new exercise. Contact your physician if the soreness does not improve after 2-3 days.
    The ball I am using in the video is one of a pair of orange Franklin Method balls. Erik Franklin is a brilliant movement teacher who has written a number of excellent books. You can find out more about his work at www.franklinmethod.com
    I bought a pair of these balls of Amazon for about £25 but have found out that it is cheaper to buy them in the UK from the UK branch of Sissel. Their website page is:
    www.sisseluk.com/cat/c-balanc...
    Some of my students have used the Miracle Balls of Elaine Petrone. I've used them too and they are also excellent.

    I tried this for my morning exercise. I see your movement as you do in the water. I dream of my near future my body will be more flexible. After this lesson I just looked into one but it seemed very difficult! One day! Thanks for your good lesson.

      Thank you Satsuko. My students here love working with these balls. Through their instability, the balls provide great feedback to a person.

    I feel happy, this morning I followed after you. It has been four months since I luckily met Feldenkrais movement. These four months has ben lovely time to experience movements. You yourself is translation of Moshe Feldenkrais for me. Have a good rest and a night!

    Just done this and used a RAD Centre that I had (which is larger in diameter around 140mm).
    It has made my right SI joint move I think for the first time since my disc injury.
    I went back to the previous lesson afterwards and the previously uncomfortable left SI during rolling is resolved.
    Fascinating.

      That is wonderful to hear Steve. I use the balls daily - even for just 5 minutes - as part of my own practice. I find them so useful because of the feedback they give to the user. If you listen to the feedback rather than just exercise then it opens the door to real change. Enjoy the sunshine!

      Hi Tetyana, the balls I like to use are known as Franklin Method orange balls. If you google them you can find them on Amazon. I like them very much as they are strong. They are about the size of a large orange.

    If I have sciatica symptoms in that area … would it be good for me to do it with a. Hard ball or better with soft ball ? Or jsut not to do it ?

    • @stewarthamblin
      @stewarthamblin  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Frantziska, I think it could very possibly help with sciatica. Certainly, it has helped many of my students but do go carefully and gently. The balls are known as Franklin Method orange balls. Here in the UK, you can buy them in pairs from Amazon or a company called Sissel UK. I use these balls a lot in my orange ball workshops. They are very popular. If you send me your email address via my website I can let you know when the next workshop will be (on zoom).
