    I have SI joint dysfunction causing low back pain from years of yoga. I recently did a program with a PT focusing on strengthening and stabilizing my hips. I’m noticing significant improvement in my alignment in yoga and barre classes as well as reduction in pain. I’m looking forward to further strengthening in this area when you release your exercise program focusing on this area. It’s exactly what I need now. Thanks for the clear explanation.

      @@TaroIwamoto Very good idea. And very needed videos. Everything starts from a core (sensu largo).

    • @TaroIwamoto
      @TaroIwamoto  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@pabloelsur1624 they are coming in the future. You may not agree with me, but from everything I know and have seen and experienced from many movement disciplines particularly martial arts, everything leads to hips. Hips are the Engine of our body. Core is only as good as hips can get, as I demonstrated in the video. Strong core alone cannot generate power. This applies to all functions and performance. You can throw a fast ball, strong punch/kick without powerful hips. But without strong core, you'll lose the power and cannot transfer the force the hips generate, so you'll need very strong and efficient transmission, that is Core. Hips and Core have to be trained together in functions. They have to work with each other to reduce stress to back and improve efficiency of movement.

    • @pabloelsur1624
      @pabloelsur1624 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TaroIwamoto That's why I wrote "sensu largo". Hips, abdomen, back, spine and coordination within them all. Actually I treat hips as a core's base, simply part of the core. I was sloppy in my wording, my bad.

      @TaroIwamoto  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'm doing a few videos on how to train core muscles functionally, but for now, you can use the short exercise demo used in this video (pushing your hand against the wall in sitting or standing). You can initiate the push by your foot first as you begin to push your hand into the wall, then keep your spine stable. Hold the tension for 5 - 10 seconds and pause for a few seconds, and repeat 10-15 reps. You can repeat 2-3 sets, on each side.

    What is the proper way to have the pelvis when seating, forward or backwards?.

    • @TaroIwamoto
      @TaroIwamoto  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      A better way to think about is what is a comfortable and efficient way to sit and move as ideal sitting posture and movement vary from one individual to another. That said, you can find several videos under Improve Posture Playlist. There you will find one video about improving sitting comfort, which is a bit longer video than most other ones.

    I have troubles with my SI joint. Sometimes it feels like it's sort of blocked and I get pain wrapping around my hip.
    I seem to have a "lump" at the back of my hip bone. I've been told, it's an increase of ligament to stabilise the joint, however it's pressing down on nerves and causing me more pain. That's the theory my physiotherapist has.
    I was wondering if you have some insight on how the si joint works and how I can improve my movement of bending forward or rather straightening myself afterwards.
    I hope this makes sense.

    • @TaroIwamoto
      @TaroIwamoto  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      How you initiate bending, turning, pushing, pulling, lifting all affect stability of SI joint and lumbar spine. It is very important to learn how to initiate movement from hips and stabilize the spine and SI joint during all functional movements.

    One technical mark, could you not use black shirt / hoodie in a future? It can't be seen clearly what your arms, chest are doing and how, all is a black spot and needs additional (unnecessary) attention.

    • @TaroIwamoto
      @TaroIwamoto  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the suggestion. Do you think a white/light grey shirt/hoodie would be easier to see? The ones I'm wearing are my work clothes with my website logo on them, and they are in black. I'll need to order them in another color if that'll make it easier for viewers. But, unfortunately, it'll take some time, and several videos have already been filmed in the same shirt, so you'll see me in the same black hoodie for a little while.
