A bloody superb movie. I’ve been spreading the word about this movie for years. I can almost feel the punches. Imagine being a journey man top ten fighter in those days with no plan or money to fall back on. This film was a knockout.
the ultimate irony is that the great lovable tragic clown Max Baer, who beat Carnera to become heavyweight champ, played himself in this movie as a viscous killer in the ring. he did kill a fighter, Frankie Campbell, in the ring and it haunted him the rest of his life. he sent Campbell's widow's kids to college.
