    I love this film! It's a splendid watch, w/Bogart and Stanwyck being cast against type. I usually sit down to enjoy this at least once a year, and find the intrigue and suspense just as exciting as the first time I saw it many decades ago. The young actress, Ann Carter, who is smart and pretty, resembles a niece of mine; it's incredible! Overall, I really like the atmosphere this story projects, just wished it had been filmed in color. If it had been shot that way, I don't think it would have been detrimental to its screenplay. "Thank you" Noir Fan, for this bit of spotlight on an old favorite! These days, with the world the way it is, these great ol' movies keep getting better and better all the time! 🎥🎞️🎬🍿🥤😊

    I enjoyed this movie. R Taylor is better than I expected; he typically has a limited range but does go out on a limb here. I didn't know before EM stated that Taylor was such a firm believer in the film. That must have helped his performance. Usually he coasts on his good looks, like many a beautiful female, I'm afraid! This is my introduction to Audrey Totter & she is fine. Poor Audrey, Eddie describes her wardrobe as "draped her shape in a lab coat" but I'd say it's more like swaddled. Much of this movie is still relevant - mental health, unfair detention, challenges of women in high professional roles. 😼

    I saw this film at a drive-in and loved it. I'd had to take my sister along. The movie started late, and I had to leave before the end to get my sister home on time... so I could use the car again someday. I didn't see how the film ended until I was in my 30s and it was on late-night TV. I especially liked Clu Gulagher, whom I had never seen before.

    I did not like this film. The 1st person perspective felt claustrophobic and contrived, was a constant distraction and not a natural representation of what human vision perceives. Not seeing Robert Montgomery was a further detriment. The "3rd person" traditional viewpoint allows the viewer to see things better. A much better device to convey point of view is the 1st person narrative voiceover à la Joe Gillis made even better as a flashback.

      Maybe if you arbitrarily think noir or classic noir ended in 1959. I don't think that IMO Sam Fuller's Underworld USA is an excellent noir from 1961 and his Shock Corridor is a masterpiece noir and the second best American film in 1963, second only to The Birds. His excellent noir The Crimson Kimono was also in 59 but not sure if it was released before or after Odds Against Tomorrow

      @@willieluncheonette5843 but the classic noir did ended in 1959 and classic noir evolved to neo noir in the 60s through today like harper, point blank, body heat, chinatown, juice (1992), blood simple, breaking bad, king of new york with christopher walken and the long goodbye so yeah the traditional noir era ended in 1959 and that's why i said that odds against tomorrow is the final noir film for the traditional noir era cause in odds against tomorrow there are scenes that would be cut out by the hayes code and the films censors like in the bank robbery where the old man gets gunned down by the police and grabs his gun and puts it to his head which means that violence and ßūīçīdę was becoming normalized to show in film which signalfied as the end of the classic hollywood era because back then you could couldn't show because the hayes code but in 1959 was beginning to be normalized but not ready to show blood coming out of the person's body yet and also the ending of odds against tomorrow ends on a sad note not normal for a traditional noir film should but ends more like a neo noir because the traditional noir era evolved into the neo noir genre in odds against tomorrow and so the classic noir era and classic hollywood era ended in 1959 and underworld usa is the first neo noir film to start the genre so yeah..

    I just couldn't do it. I watched a half hour of it, but I just couldn't do it. Heddy Lamarr and George Macready were good, but I found John Hodiakʼs accent obnoxious and the plot very boring. Hopefully the next feature Eddie shows-Split Second (another Noir Alley premiere, if I'm not mistaken)-makes up for A Lady Without Passport. I wanted to like it, and I watched most of it, but again, it just fell flat for me on multiple levels.

      Hodiak had a conglomeration of accents when growing up, so much so that it held him up for a while till he was able to master them for showbiz. winnetoba.com/news/74/john-hodiak-hamtramck-hollywood Split Second has been on Noir Alley (Nov 5, 2017), but maybe it's new to you. It's interesting and odd .. maybe Nuclear Noir? Scripted by William Bowers, so that's always a plus.

    I found this to be a massive disappointment. A slow, dull, uninteresting melodrama. A good cast is the only thing that this movie has to recommend it. The gimmicky trick ending only underscores how empty this effort really is.

    Raymond Burr really cracks it as the obsessed, psychopathic heavy, here. He's believably revolting and yet, years later he radiated untegrity as Chief Ironside. I had mixed feelings about this film, quite gripping but Powell's character goes from brusguely efficient to devil may care and handy with his fists and then back to 'ordinary guy' mode. I also thought there were lapses of consistency in Mona's jailbird husband. For some reason he didn't give MacDonald a going over for tormenting him and after Mona told him that MacDonaldhad been making the moves on her. There were quite a few things that didn't quite lead to where you'd think they'd lead storywise.

    Since I sometimes can't watch and/or record Noir Alley, being able to see these intros and outres (thanks to you!) is a truly bodacious blessing! I learn SO much from Eddie about my favorite movie genre, noir. Please keep up the good work! 👍😎

      @@erickjrmaldonadoherrera4531 Please, no need to apologize! Fortunately it looks like I'll be getting them in the next day or two, will post a reply here when I do. And thanks for waking me up! I had no idea that TCM was regularly featuring noir outside of Noir Alley. Unbelievable! But a little web search brought up this very helpful schedule .. which I'll be checking regularly! www.filmnoirfoundation.org/news-tv.html

    Rrally enjoy these Intro/Outros! They increase my Film Noir knowledge. I don't think I can afford a TCM subscription - just checked & it would be $60-70 per month! Thru Amazon Prime or AT&T, can't remember how I go there. Deep sigh! 😞

      @NoirFan77 10 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Sorry about that. I didn't know that Amazon Prime offers TCM, in fact I have a hard time believing that, sorry. As far as AT&T, no idea. I can tell you that one route I went was signing up for YTTV which includes TCM and also offers the option to record Noir Alley for later viewing, and also gives you authorization to WatchTCM. But it's even more than $70 a month. Now I'm using Spectrum to same end, also not cheap.
