My husband served in the Navy and the separations, war, injuries and just getting older, was hard but part of our lives. It's the love that lifted us up where we belong that has kept us in good stead. This beautiful song captures our relationship so well. 34 years though trials, tribulations, separations, but nothing keeps us truly apart. I love you, Jimmy. Always and Forever, your "Beautyfull" xo
What a beautiful part of your lives you shared. Thank you to your husband and his service and thank you for standing with your husband. That is so remarkable in the times of hardship. You both are amazing. Blessings 🙏💛
I used this song in the slideshow presentation for the celebration of life for my husband of 41 years. He loved this movie and the acting of Gere and Winger. I hope he is smiling up in heaven.
Cocker's raspy intonation, Warnes sweet tonality. This song should not work but it does...flawlessly. A masterful lyric, percussion and musical accompaniment. One of the best love songs ever written.
That's Wonderful My wife and I just passed 20 years of marriage and 23 years together. We don't even think about what would happen without the other! To tell you the truth as we are getting older we are scared of what will happen when the other passes!😓😥😥😥

I’m a 97 baby and still appreciate this and the entirety of the 80s for being one of the last great decades. Mastering is beautiful and performances thoughtful unlike today.
I saw this movie in 1991 when I was in high school. Then I enlisted in the army as a private. The commissioning was my favorite part of the movie. I dreamed of becoming an officer ever since a kid. In 1997, I swore to defend the Constitution as I received my Army commission. I was finally an officer and a gentleman.

Lord in Heaven; this might be the best song I’ve ever heard. I played it night and day when a wonderful man I loved and admired was dying from cancer. I cooked; I cried; I cleaned; I cried ; I did shopping; I cried; I went out; I cried; I loved; I cried; I prayed; I cried; I played it loudly; I cried. It got me through. Now my wonderful friend just died this morning and I will play this song and cry and cry until my tears dry up. Here’s to you, Martha, a beautiful soul. May you Rest In Peace. I love you now and forever. ❤💖❤️♥️💗💘💓♥️💕💖❤️💘💗♥️💕💖
Joe Cocker/ Jennifer Warnes This is a definitely a song to listen to. They both come together with this it’s really lovely to listen to after such a long time ago. Great memory jerker.
l agree with you, indeed Joe Cocker is a great and talented artist who's songs never goes out of style,he's one of my favorites artist, he's songs still and always heals the Soul, I pray God gives you lot of beautiful days🙏
This movie is about finding our way. What we want in life. I know that I found mine.. I went in Army.. I served over 26 years. I met the man... the soul who changed my life... and this movie DEFINES that. Most have NO clue...
This was such a beautiful song from one of the best movies of the 80s. This song hit number one on the US Billboard in December of 1982 and stayed there for over a month. It peaked at number 23 for 1983. The 80s was quite the decade for TV, movies, music, the 80s had it all.
Onda su u Europi svi bili ludi za Amerikom, imala je nešto,a danas i Evropa i Amerika i bivši Socijalistički Istok, nekako unakaženi, nema poleta, snage, kao umiranje
Thank you for this song ❤️ My Stepdad died when I was a teenager and this was one of his favorite songs. His name was "Scott" but we called him "Pudda" He died at 42 yrs old and I was supposed to see him 3 dys before he died but I let what shit get in the way. To this day when I hear this song I remember how much he loved us, and most of all how much he loved our "Mother". I miss him so much, and I miss the depth of "love" I saw in his " eyes" and "spirit" that he had for my "Mother" even if she couldn't. I know what "love" looks like.. That was a "MAN". Namaste mamas 💜♾️
I listened to this song every every day while a beloved friend and wonderful man was dying from cancer. It was and is my heavenly hymn. Tears flew down my face as I weeped and weeped and weeped. This rendition helped to ease the anguish with the knowledge that there is a higher dwelling place. ❤
RIP Louis Gossett Jr. (May 27, 1936 - March 29, 2024), aged 87 And RIP Joe Cocker (May 20, 1944 - December 22, 2014), aged 70 You both will be remembered as legends
Saw this when I was a kid in the 80's, I can still remember the review it had on " Film 82" and the buzz it generated . All the these years later, It is still magical.
HighSpeedNoDrag It is indeed my favotite movie of all time it kind of reminds me of my self when i served the forces in europe back 26 years ago.I dont what to get to sentimental at the end when they graduate and he's all alone looking around and theres nobody there for him my heart pounds that's what happened to me some times life can be so harsh but never give up hope awesome movie. R.I.P. Joe Cocker!!!👍
I remember the song was a hit just after I graduated from High School in 1982, and it was part of what inspired me to join the Navy. This was filmed in the general part of the state where my first duty station was, at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremerton. I've read the ending scene was filmed in the actual paper mill in Port Townsend, and when he carried her out, the actual workers there spontaneously started clapping and cheering--it wasn't in the script, and then the actors who played her friend and mother joined in. About 2 years ago my wife and I drove up and visited some of the shooting locations for a day trip. Much of it is still there, but somehow it looks a little different in the movie. But, I guess after 40 years... I just can't believe it has been this long. Where did the time go?
Heard this song a million times but I've never seen this movie. When the video first started I thought I was watching Top Gun and got very confused. I will definitely have to go back and check this flick out with my wife because she's a huge Richard Gere fan....
Just wanted to say, that this song was our theme song for our graduation from Grade 12 in my home town, a mining town in northern Manitoba, Canada, "back in the day". It is so lovely, that I cannot listen to it without getting out the box of kleenex! To me, it's about never giving up on your dreams or goals. I absolutley love Jennifer Warnes' beautiful voice coupled with Joe Cocker's more baratone singing voice, it makes such a lovely duet! No wonder we picked this song for our special occasion! I saw this movie too, above, and it was great also. Have a great rest of 2022 everyone!
I saw this movie when it first came out, I joined the navy a few months later. I was stationed on an aircraft carrier stationed out of Japan, the USS MIDWAY CV-41 , I met a girl named Karen 1/2 through my time onboard. We dated for the 30 days I was home on leave. I didn’t see her for 12 years . I found her after all those years , she was divorced and so was I. We dated for 5 years and I’m looking at her now folding clothes in the kitchen.... married 17 years now. Long story short I love this movie and this soundtrack. My you tube name says it all. It’s now 12-26-2022, we now have 4 grandkids lol. 8 week old twin girls, 18 month boy and a miracle baby girl that’s 3 1/2 now, born at 1 pound 13 ounces and kickin ass now. So blessed. Tomorrow 9/4/2023 the wife and I are going to liberty station, it’s the old naval training center/ recruit training command where it all started for me (us) it’s been close since 1997 but is now a historic public venue with ships, eateries and Naval history. I’m looking forward to it⚓️
We have a home 10 minutes from, "FIGHTERTOWN U.S.A.". When our children were babies, I used to say that the sound of those jets were their, "lullaby". I often stood on the balcony , off the master bedroom, watching the jets dance at sundown. From the moment we arrived in the U.S.A., we realised that so many, especially new recruits, missed home, fun, good food & long calls to their families. So, as a victim of P.T.S.D. myself, we opened our home to naval & marine personnel. After dinner, they could join us on the beach for volleyball, watch a movie or just lie under the trees in the garden, at peace. We lost too many of them in the desert. Our hearts were broken & having lost too any close friends at home, we knew a little of how they felt.
I just heard the news about the passing of Joe Cocker....this is the song I will always remember him by....Joe and Jennifer made a perfect duet...Rest In Peace and thanks for this lovely song Joe ~
Let's not forget "You are so beautiful to me", I know that Joe is up there where he belongs. Such a good man, I grew up listening to music like he sang.❤☮®🌈⭐✈🎶🆙🆓🆒😘
Like the film “LoveStory” it’s on my top shelf!! Beautiful and will never forget how he came into her workplace , picked her up sooo beautifully and carried her out in his arms! Gobsmacked! I love good hearted films that one never forgets because it’s so full of meaning and love! Keep ear and violent films away from me, I hate them and do nothing for me despite their producers!
Great song. Great singers. Great movie Those of us 50+ that were fortunate enough to grow up in the 80s will never forget those times It hurts to know our kids won’t ever know anything close to what we had
Fell in love with Richard Gere during this movie; what a gorgeous soundtrack. When he comes into the factory in his white dress uniform & carries her (Deborah) away was so romantic. God Bless all of our service member’s it’s a very hard life & a few hearts and some lives; sadly,,,don’t survive it.
Thank you for your service, veterans inspired by this movie, and service to our country, whose prosperity we have benefited from all our lives. Every country has its issues, but I'd rather be here than anywhere else. Go Navy!
I was an innocent kid in Saudi Arabia when I saw this movie via VHS tape. It was brought into the country by my dad's American boss. I enjoyed watching this great flick. In fact I have watched it multiple times ever since 🙂
Saw this movie at an age when we thought life would last forever..... now I’m 55, and know better... What a sweet memory though of a beautifull period in life...
This song has no limits; it flies high like our Eagle-jets soaring to the Heavens. The depth and beauty of this duet touches my soul and actually makes it hurt. It tells the truth about life and how we should choose love , show it, preach it and live by it. I grew up in Joe Cocker.❤
I remember watching this movie on a date with the only girl I truly ever fell in love with. It was a short relationship but had a lasting impact on my life. Every time I hear that song it brings me back to that wonderful moment in my life.
@@MikeSmith-cn6ubthat’s the difference between a wife and girlfriend, one always feels one has loved a girlfriend in the past more because it was temporary, it’s only a sense of nostalgia for the past and a misplaced feeling of how things could’ve turned out, had he married that girlfriend he would’ve felt about her the same way he feels about his wife and would’ve imagined a another past girlfriend as the only woman he fell in love with!
This movie came out the year I graduated from Highschool in 1982, went to see it at the movies, it was truly an instant classic. My father was a Naval Aviator who went through Pensacola preflight, he also did 3 tours in Viet Nam, flying off of the Enterprise and America. One of the leads in this movie, David Keith's father was my Grandmother's first cousin, so I really love this movie so much and it was such a great piece of artwork, with not a huge budget.

This is a movie I want to get on DVD. Saw it a long time ago. Love it! RIP Louis Gossett Jr., thankful for all your contributions to the entertainment industry. Fly high now.

This is the movie that I don't get sick of watching over and over. Richard Gere has always been a good actor and I like Pretty Woman too. I watched the movie over and over. I just love the guy and his acting, he's a natural!

Спасибо, очень верно сказано. Мы взрослели в 80-ые, смотрели хорошие фильмы с шикарной музыкой и замечательными актерами, без дурацких правил и ограничений...

Although I certainly did not think it at the time, one of the most exhilarating chapters of my life was the four months I spent in Navy OCS. While my experiences there were not as deep as the film OAAG portrays, there were enough parallels to cause me to adopt this song as the one that chacterizes those four months. Wow, what great memories it brings back. When I need a lift, this is one of the few songs I call on to bring it on.

Thank you for your service
thank you for your service sir 🫡!!!
This song is by Sainte Marie
It was in november
November 6th, 1982 and stayed there for three weeks. :-)
Joe Cocker was a classic.

Wow such a loving tribute to a STEPdad!
Did your mother find love again?

It 's a beautiful song from a classic 1980's film. RIP to the gravely voiced Joe Cocker.

I listened to this song every every day while a beloved friend and wonderful man was dying from cancer. It was and is my heavenly hymn. Tears flew down my face as I weeped and weeped and weeped. This rendition helped to ease the anguish with the knowledge that there is a higher dwelling place. ❤

You both will be remembered as legends
Loved the movie Officer and a gentlemen. Joe and Jennifer played a vital part in making it a success. RIP Joe.
Saw this when I was a kid in the 80's, I can still remember the review it had on " Film 82" and the buzz it generated . All the these years later, It is still magical.
That song was remarkable because it explains the ups and downs in relationships and how we should overcome it to move forward.
This brings back so many memories, my mum used to love this film, I know it so well
I've watch this movie over & over again but i never get tired of it, one of the best love stories

At least your comment is a bit more original than the tiresome who's listening in 2024?
Why are the showing clips of Top Gun 😅. This us old heads wouldn't notice! 2024
😢😂

One of the reasons I went into the Navy back in '84-'86, one of the Greatest movies from the 80's no doubt🤔!!!

I’m looking forward to it⚓️
awesome story
Those are the best stories! Many blessings to you both!
Love it!!

Every time I hear that song it brings me back to that wonderful moment in my life.

how was the date man? thinking of watching this on a date too
What is the name of this movie
@@MikeSmith-cn6ubthat’s the difference between a wife and girlfriend, one always feels one has loved a girlfriend in the past more because it was temporary, it’s only a sense of nostalgia for the past and a misplaced feeling of how things could’ve turned out, had he married that girlfriend he would’ve felt about her the same way he feels about his wife and would’ve imagined a another past girlfriend as the only woman he fell in love with!
Thank you for the beautiful music Mr. Joe Cocker, rest in peace...

Alex Adair thats great
Awesome 👍.. yes this movie killed it at the box office.
Up Where We Belong
Joe Cocker & Jennifer Warnes
Who knows what tomorrow brings
In a world, few hearts survive
All I know is the way I feel
When it's real, I keep it alive
The road is long
There are mountains in our way
But we climb a step every day
Love lift us up where we belong
Where the eagles cry, on a mountain high
Love lift us up where we belong
Far from the world below, up where the clear wind blow
Some hang on to "used to be"
Live their lives looking behind
All we have is here and now
All our life, out there to find
The road is long
There are mountains in our way
But we climb them a step every day
Love lift us up where we belong
Where the eagles cry, on a mountain high
Love lift us up where we belong
Far from the world we know, up where the clear winds blow
Time goes by
No time to cry
Life's you and I

Timeless love song. Still a good movie to watch on dvd. Damn... I still remember Beta tapes and rabbit-ears antenna. Cable boxes with a dial on front.
This makes me want to watch Top Gun again, I can see an 80s/90s movie night in my near future,
80s movie night sounds awesome!
