Yep...hit once. One time, in the 3rd round...against Tyson. Quite aggravating. I've been trying to do a no hit run for awhile now, on and off, for a few months. Been to Tyson quite a few times and failed. I decided to keep this run, even with the one hit, still a decent run. For some reason it cut off the end where it shows little mac and your win/loss record on the bottom, sorry about that. Well, enjoy. - เกม

Most likely because people's fingers can rest easier with the finger on the edge of the control pad during a tough battle.

james mai 90 second rule* he can only 1-hit you in the first 90 seconds on each round.
No he will only use the 1 hit the first 90 seconds of the first round then he adds other moves and OCCASIONALLY uses the 1 hit for the rest of the match
Very good. Shocked you do not know the Glass Joe trick! Don't hit him at all, at :40 he backs up, when he comes in you clobber him, like you did here, but only thing is if you haven't hit him, he will go down and NEVER get up. That and Konami code were like first "tricks" I ever knew
just so you know, it's possible to TKO tyson in the second round by purposely
leaving a sliver of white in his bar instead of knocking him out once in the first round; that way, you can give him an immediate knockout at the start of the second, and then easily proceed to knock him out two more times to achieve the TKO. this strategy might help you achieve the no hit run.
Yep I was saying the same thing after he dropped him in the first round. Thats how I would beat him. Either way he only got hit once through the whole thing. AMAZING. I still play this game every now and then. Its classic, easy to play and challenging.

Anyone ever play Punch Out... the one without Tyson? I think Nintendo came out with it after Tyson lost to Buster Douglas or sometime around then. Anyways.. Tyson was replaced with a dude named Mr Dream. So much harder to beat than Tyson. One punch you were knocked down. Wouldn't allow you to connect either. Trick was to dodge every punch for two rounds... never throwing a punch. Then it would let you to start connecting in the 3rd :)

You got hit by Tyson many times actually. Blocking a hit still = getting hit, which is why you lose health off your health meter each time.

Yeah, except, he didn't do a "one hit run", obviously. He got hit many times by Tyson, thus contradicting/negating his claim of a "one hit run". If the blocked hits did no damage, such as in arcade Punch-Out, arcade Super Punch-Out, and for most hits in SNES Super Punch-Out, then his claim might have some validity.
You missed the point of my post (which makes your low-rent attempt at irony comically ironic), i.e., the point wasn't to inform him that you lose health by blocking, it was to point out that because you lose health by blocking, those blocked hits definitely count as hits, thus he was hit more than once (something he obviously didn't know, else he wouldn't have claimed it was a "one hit run"). If you read your original post and my response, it is clear that I did not lose the point of your post. I was merely making fun of your unnecessary explanation to the poster of this video that you "lose health off your health meter each time." Now that we have that out of the way, the fact you lose health does not mean you are getting hit. You block in order to not be hit. The minor loss of health is to discourage the player from remaining in a guard the entire time and is irrelevant to the difference of being hit by a blow and blocking it. The level of thinking required to understand that is not very high, but is above the one you were operating at in your original post and your response...simple fellow.

I could only get this far with a game genie when I was a kid, otherwise this game was impossible. I think I got as far as King Hippo. He's counting this as a one hit run because Tyson only got 1 clean hit off of him. I could hear the "FUCK" coming out of his mouth when he took that hit, because that's what I'd be saying too. If you want to call someone out for something at least walk a few feet in their shoes, ie. try making the same run-through and see how far you get after a week or so. I bet it took this guy a lot of time, patience, and practice to get this far. Kudos to him definitely :)...

The cheat to beating Soda Popinski is when he stoops down for a power uppercut, press down like you're blocking. He will then freeze. Right then hit him with a body shot, which will get you a star. He will fall immediately when you get the chance to use the star on him, regardless of his energy.

I went to a technical/vocational high school waaaaay back when this first came out. The school alternated weeks- 1 week you went to regular classes, the next you'd be in shop. In electronics, the teacher we had was cool as hell-he'd let is bring in our NES's to hook up to the monochrome monitors and play after our end of week exams. I went head to head with a friend of mine in a speedrun of the game, but made a critical error against king hippo. Still, great memory!
